Time Capsule as a router of community

Is it possible to allow the community of origin (PC & Apple) access to my router from terrabyte TC 3 yet firmly restrict access to my backup information? How? As a work around to buy a (PC & Apple friendly) lynksis router before turning off my router from TC to be used strictly as a terrabyte 3 back up.

Is it possible to allow the community of origin (PC & Apple) access to my router from terrabyte TC 3 yet firmly restrict access to my backup information?

Yes

How?

Set up a separate password for the network (password wireless) wireless device (Base Station password) settings and the password for the drive Time Capsule (the disk password)

Then, other users will be able to use the wireless network, but they will not have access to one of the parameters of the network on the Time Capsule or any of the data on the hard drive... unless you provide the password that their.

  • The Time Capsule and Comcast router compatibility

I plan on buying Time Capsule.

My ISP is Comcast and borrow the gateway (modem and router together)

Comcast has not recommended the use of Time Capsule as wifi router

I would like to know if there are problems (slow wifi, etc.) using Time Capsule with Comcast.

It is very well - at least, it will work without problems.

You will probably find yourself with two wireless networks - the Comcast box and time Capsule (from memory, you can not deactivate their wireless gateway), but since you get to choose which network to join you shouldn't have a problem.

  • Time Capsule as a router

Instead of the cable company router, can I use my time capsule to be a router?

The time Capsule can function as a router, but not a modem. If what you provided your cable provider is a simple modem, then the time Capsule will work. However, if they actually you provided a combination modem and the router, also known as a gateway device, then it wouldn t.

  • Time capsule with modem/router

I just got the phone with Apple support and they told me that time capsule will not work itself but he need a modem/router REQUIRED to work all time capsule. Is this true? Time Capsule is a modem/router. Why on earth someone would buy something for $ 600, which is not even replace the old modem router? I spend $ 200 on a 3 TB hard drive and do the same work. Please answer.

    Time Capsule is a modem/router.

    No, this is not correct.

The Capsule is a router only. It doesn't have a modem on board. If you have a Time Capsule and you want to be able to access the Internet, you will need a modem to connect to the time Capsule.

More providers of Internet services (ISP) provide modems/routers and modems to their customers to connect to their service. Please contact your ISP and ask them what they recommend.

  • Unable to connect to the internet via the Time Capsule 2 TB router

    Hello

I can't connect wireless to the internet using my Time Capsule (see 7.7.3 running).

I mainly use a macbook air (so no ethernet jack) running El Capitan 10.12.2 but the problem also occurs with our iPad and iPhone.

The system has worked for a few hours after the initial Setup, but our ISP crashed and I was not able to make it work since their entry online. I've used a Linksys router.

ISP is done via a wireless connection. The provider can see my antenna and an Apple device connected to it. I have a static IP address with DNS assigned.

My airport utility shows green for the network connection and the internet but no Web page will open.

I did reset hard and reconfigurations a few times which one where I left the modem to the router cable disconnected until I got the full configuration.

The wireless network is using DHCP with DNS assigned to a beach.

Router mode is DHCP and NAT.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

There are a number of situations where the TC will simply not work.

I have a static IP address with DNS assigned.

If you have configured the Internet of TC tab with static IP address?

Would it not be possible to get the address IP via dhcp... have you tried?

Wireless modem is connected by ethernet to your TC? Also, the modem is a router that is bridged?

I really need to see the numbers... but it's not good to put the public IP address here... xxx on the first two bytes and just give me the rest... as long as the IP and gateway are the same.

Or send it to my email address. (see my profile).

Your linksys might work, but the CT will not... This happens because Apple does not provide sufficient flexibility to allow the wireless Internet service provider. (Or Satellite or fiber or some ADSL).

But it can also be a problem with the network... we have problems with the WAN port with some modems.

Does the ethernet connectivity light come on, when you connect the modem to the WAN port on the TC?

  • Can I use Time Capsule as a router to connect wirelessly with a pc

I can all my products easily connect to the internet using Airport Time Capsule? I know I can save wireless my Apple products, but can I also backup my computers portable windows on the Time Capsule via a cable?

Yes, but windows esp... 10 windows can be uncooperative.

Also I do not know at all the recovery will be easy depending on what backup software you plan on using.

Don't forget the world of Windows that the TC still looks like NT Server with FAT32 drives and all the inherent problem that there are.

  • Time capsule is not found

I try to use my time capsule as a router for Internet. I connected my cable modem to time with Ethernet cord yellow capsule. When I go to AirPort Utility it says "no configured airport base stations have been found." AirPort utility will continue the search. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Any time that you change your network hardware, you must perform a complete recycling of power of this hardware. Check out the following Tip of an airport users for more details. Please post back your results.

  • time capsule airport lose wifi range

I've been using airport time capsule as a router and machine time about 1.5 years and suddenly the WIFI range

come fall, I use the modem cable HI Speed with 10 loading MB and 150 MB down when suddenly the speed dropped I still get 10 but only about 92 or less down, unless I use an ethernet cable that brings speed to 150 are lowest, (PS), I ran the on time capsule ethernet cable to my Mac mini so it becomes what should be diffuse but do not do a very good job more.

question is there something that can be done to solve this problem everyone knows this problem, thanks for any help that can be provided.

What exact model of the Time Capsule (TC) do you have? Given that the question appears with the wireless, you live in an area with a high concentration of other networks Wi - Fi? An apartment complex or a dorm maybe?

  • Need help to set up Time Capsule with surfboard SBG6580... wifi or extender?

I just got my Time Capsule and trying to figure out if I should use as my wifi router, or keep my SBG6580 active and e TC allows to extend my warranty.

    Any recommendations?

In addition, how? Online instructions do not seem to be very clear.

    Thank you!

I will always recommend to use your Time Capsule as a router, it will be much easier to access and manipulate, unless really, you need to report more coverage.

  • need help to set up time capsule as a backup only

I used Time Capsule as a router wifi and backup for several years.  The wifi didn't give me the whole House coverage so I bought the mesh network eero newly released product. I still want to use my Time Capsule for backup and, as he already has about two years of backup on this subject, I don't want to lose these backups. I created a new network for eero routers but gave the network of the same name and password as the old TC network so that all my devices would automatically connect to the new network.  That has worked well.  Is it possible to connect the time Capsule to the my wireless network so that my MacBook and MBP my wife will continue to save on the network they were?  The eero router has two Ethernet ports on the back and the two are to be used (one for the modem, the other for Sonos) so I do not have an available port to use.  Can I buy a switch if I have to, but if there is a wireless solution I would rather.

I also have a desktop Mac that has saved on the TC and it's my main computer.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Is it possible to connect the time Capsule to the my wireless network so that my MacBook and MBP my wife will continue to save on the network they were?

No, you cannot join the TC now network a wireless router not apple. Apple has removed this feature because he was too... too slow, unreliable and missing too many apples.

The eero router has two Ethernet ports on the back and the two are to be used (one for the modem, the other for Sonos) so I do not have an available port to use.  Can I buy a switch if I have to, but if there is a wireless solution I would rather.

You can run the TC between eero router and the sonos.

Connect the wan port on TC eero and Sonos to the TC lan port. Configure the TC in Bridge mode. Disable the wireless sound. (Or you can leave the wireless on but use a different name for your eero wireless now).

The TC will work like a switch... this side of it will work fine.

How well the works of TC depends on the OS everything works... You can find it is actually necessary to paginate on the TC to make backups of the laptops wireless. Apple has made changes to the DNS system that broke network so that it can be impossible for computers discover the TC after a few hours after a reboot.

Give it a try... If this does not work then you need to be more creative.

The TC can connect through ethernet in the desktop computer. But for this, it must be configured with a different range of IP addresses for the rest of the network. Again, you can use wireless on... but the laptop will have to make backups by a different method. It gets complicated very quickly.

Tell me what IP range using the eero router?

I can make a few suggestions more as soon as we clear.

  • Time Capsule wireless bridge

After great to work for a year, I had problems recently with Time Capsule using our router, abandonment, etc... As did others on this forum, we had mult calls to ISP about the quality of the line. They said that we were crashing our data upstream limit, which blew our connection. Looks like iCloud with services of Photo services were the problem. We have Mac running 10.9.5 but daughter improved to Capitan and using the services of the most recent and cloud. Without the ability to limit the range of QOS, I had to get a new Nighthawk so I could limit QOS upstream to 80% of the capacity which has not dropouts. Now it serves as main router. I wired TC as an expensive network switch and for Time Machine backup hard drive. Has any found a way to connect the TC wireless? (I want to go the new router to more central location and keep TC where it is on the lower level) This threshold door Base Station to its former network password and have / send mode wireless network and network/router - Off Mode (Bridge). I am currently letting Netgear assign the full range of DHCP, but ready to try a limited on the main router range and let the TC have then end of range ( LaPastenaguesolution). But the problem seems to be that the TC will only see signals from other devices of Apple wireless? If so, then no devices Apple more for me.

    6.3.2 (632,3), TC 7.7.3, OSX 10.9.5 Airport utility

Has any found a way to connect the TC wireless?

Not much of interest to spend time on it to try to find a solution... when the firmware for the TC will not allow this.

An older version of 'flat or square' TC working in tandem with an older version 5.x of AirPort utility would allow a manual workaround solution, but no luck with the latest TCs and 6.x newer versions of AirPort Utility... or the most recent TC and the older utility.

Looks like no Apple devices more for you, unless you want to consider a wireless Ethernet bridge to feed the TC signal he wants.

  • Suddenly, my iMac (27-inch mid 2011) works with my time capsule.

It shows that it is connected to the time capsule, but when I go on the internet, the screen says that I'm not online. However, my iPhone works very well using my time capsule as the router.  My iMac has worked last night. I put to sleep and when I woke up, it does not go online.  I tried unplugging everything. I also tried to remove my time capsule of the recognized networks and then connection. Still does not work. Any thoughts?

  • Can I use the Time Capsule wireless for multiple computers without using it as a router?

I am looking for an external backup for 2 computers drive.  I have a desktop iMac and MacBook Air.  I like the idea of being able to back up my MacBook Air wireless, but I need to make sure that it will work the way I need to.

I already have a wireless router that works well for me, I don't need the time Capsule to act as a router. I'm just needing a wireless backup drive.  So, the question is, can I use the only time Capsule as a storage device for backup of wifi or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?  My fear is that the router service is not as good as the router, I currently have.  I live in a big House of 2 floors, making it very difficult to receive a strong signal throughout the House.

can I use time Capsule only as a backup wireless storage device or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?

Time Capsule need to connect to your router/modem existing using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

If you plan to use the time Capsule to back up your Mac with the help of the application Time Machine on every Mac, the Mac will have to save on the wireless signal Time Capsule for the process to be officially supported by Apple.

While it is possible to turn off wireless on the Time Capsule and try to save it to your existing wireless network... and it pourrait work... but there will be no Apple support backup problems... so it would be a good idea to plan to use Time Capsule wireless backup purposes.

  • Use the second router to extend the network to Time Capsule

I have a v7.6.7 running Time Capsule 1 TB and older airport. I'm hoping to add a second router in a new location, and I use an ethernet cable from the TC at the new router (TP Link Archer C5), updated to the latest version of the firmware. The IP address of the TC is 192.168.1.1.

I have set up my router C5 as follows: allocation of IP 192.168.1.199, value DHCP = off, and I connect a cable between the TC ports and port WAN (not Internet) available on the C5. In the C5 wireless settings, I tried both using the TC SSID and pw and creating a new SSID and pw. In both cases, the network will work for a short time, but eventually the entire network, including the TC, stops working. I made no changes to the parameters of the TC on any trial.

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router? If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router?

Yes. That would be the basis of a network of mobile type.

The key for a roaming network parameters are:

    • The 'primary' router must be configured as a router. In other words, it must have active NAT and DHCP services.
    • All other routers used in a network of roaming must be reconfigured as a bridge.
    • All routers must broadcast a Wi - Fi network that uses the same network (SSID, aka) name, and the type of wireless security, and the password.
    • All routers must be interconnected by Ethernet. To provide Powerline adapters using an Ethernet connectivity should also work.

If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Should not really which is the main in the roaming network.

I think at this point, your current circuit line. To check that, I would suggest that you consider to bring back the router C5 in the same room as you have the TC. Then connect it directly to one of the LAN of the TC ports. Complete the entire upward to a mobile network and test it. If everything works, bring back the C5 in the desired location, and then try again.

If it fails, then the circuit line will be tested to check that it provides a solid 'Ethernet' connection between the adapters.
