Time Capsule password

I want to recover my files from a Time Machine on a Time Capsule backup. My Mac not connect to the Time Capsule said as he tells me that I entered an incorrect password. I've never had a Time Capsule password and it has never changed, nor no one else knows. Whenever I have try and enter my password, it tells me that it is bad when I know that it is not. The files are saved are extremely important and I can not afford these files to be lost.

How can I solve this problem?

Sorry, I'm not not clear about the question to know if you say that you used Time Machine on your Mac to back up your files on the time Capsule at the long... or, if you have a new Mac and try to access the files on the Time Capsule.

In both cases, you "see" the time Capsule if you open AirPort Utility?

We ask, is that you probably don't remember two passwords different on the Time Capsule originally implemented. One of them was a Base Station, or a password of the device... and the other was a wireless network password.

Chances are, you know your password wireless, but here you are prompted for the password of the basic Station or "peripheral" to the time Capsule.

  • Change of name affects NetBios of Mac Time Capsule?

    Hi all

I noticed that my netbios name is the one I always used with '-2' after him, I don't know why and can't remember if I chose that, but I basically changed it back to what it was without the extra part. However I've done backups to my Apple Time Capsule with the "nom_netbios-2". Now that I've renamed "nom_netbios", is that going to affect my Time Capsule? Sorry for the question but I'm quite new with Time Capsule. Thank you!

Check if you have backups for two Macs with similar names, rather than backups for a Mac as follows:

Open any window in the Finder on your Mac

Look for Time Capsule icon under the title shared on the left side of the window

Click the Time Capsule and a folder called 'Data' (unless you have changed the name of the Time Capsule disk) appears in the box on the right

Double click on data to open the player. You may be asked the peripheral or the administrator Time Capsule password if you have not done this before

Now look to see if there is a file "sparsebundle" for your Mac, or there are two

Ideally, you do not want to only see one file with the normal name of your Mac

  • How to see files saved on my Time Capsule airport? All I see is the name of my hardrive.

I have recently started using Apple's Time Capsule airport and use it for my Time Machine backups. When I used Time machine in the post with an external hard drive, I can go and see all the backups and individual files, if I needed to. Reset the TC factory and redo the installation.

No files are lost on the drive hard when you do this.

Here is my recommendation for installation in later operating system.

Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the drive hard in doing so.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    The installer the TC.

And then redo the configuration of the computer with the Mavericks - Yosemite - ElCapo. (MYELCAP)

    1. the use of very short names... NO APPLE RECOMMENDED names. Without the space and pure alphanumeric characters.

for example TCgen5 for the base station and the name of the TCwifi wireless.

If the problem is using wireless TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as it also seems to help stop the nonsense. But it can be tried in the second round. IE, plan on a first and second series of changes to fix this... If all goes well... I note other steps can you tour2.

    2. use all passwords also consistent with 1. but maybe a little longer. IE 8 and 20 characters of mixed cases and numbers... no alphanumeric non-caracteres.

    3. If the TC is router, you can ignore this point. It is only a problem when the TC is bridged.

If ensure that the TC is always the same IP address... you will need to do this on the main router using a dhcp reservation... or a bit more complex setup by using the static IP address in the TC. But it's important for deriving from intellectual property in all directions when MYELCAP do not remember his name for 5 min after a reboot done for poor network management.

    4. check that your share on the computer name does not change... Make sure that it is also in line with the above... short without space and pure alphanumeric... but this change will mess up your TM backup... so be prepared to make a new, full backup. Sorry... keep this one for the second round, if you want to avoid a new backup.

5 attach the TC disc into the computer manually.

In Finder, go, connect to the server in the main menu,

Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever ip of TC is that you made static. It's a default router 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with it unless you know what you're doing).

You can use the name... SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your name of TC... local is the default domain of the TC and does not change.

However the names are not so easy as... the IP address nor reliable. They are not at least not in Yosemite. The field can also be a problem if you are not clogged or wireless directly to the Treasury Board.

    6. ensure that IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open network, wireless and Advanced preferences / TCP/IP... and the difficulty of IPv6. link-local only. Do the same for the ethernet if you use it.

It is a lot more jiggery pokery, you can try, but the above is a good start... If you still find not reliable... don't be surprised.

You may need to do more work on the computer itself. for example, to reset the NVRAM/PRAM/SMC... helped some people. A clean installation of the operating system is also useful if you update installed.

    (1) try to reset the password for the utility disk AirPort

    (2) open TextEdit on the Mac and type the password in plain text in an editor window.  This will allow you to ensure that all the keys on the keyboard are recognized.  I've seen cases where passwords fail again and again because of a problem with a wrong key on the keyboard or a habit of typing that makes you believe that you enter the password one way, but the result is something else.  Be able to actually see that typed password allows to check that.

  • How to reset the password for the system administrator for Time Capsule?

I need to do a system restore to 2008 MacBook my wife of my 2014 Time Capsule, and I'm stuck at the system administrator password prompt. It does not accept the password to base such as revealed by the Airport utility station > base station > show passwords on my MBP, which is able to save and enter Time Machine, even if the TC is configured to use individual accounts rather than a single disk password. I'm nervous about any base station reset option in case I spoil my backup. How can I me?

Although TC is configured to use individual accounts rather than a single disk password

You must use the right of the user and the password in this case. NOT the password from the drive.

I'm nervous about any base station reset option in case I spoil my backup. How can I me?

Reset complete... It will not damage the backups somehow... It simply returns to the default values.

Let me recommend to you if you want to continue using the TC in this way... (useless IMHO). Please do an export of the configuration before factory reset you.

With the help of user and passwords in the TC is near useless. It only affects the side of the router...

If you need more security using encrypted backups... but the reality is... the security more you add less useful the backup is likely to be. As you have now discovered... When you need it... you need as clear and clear as possible.

  • Password protect an external hard drive connected to Time Capsule

I have a WD passport external hard drive connected to my time capsule, so my wife and I can easily share files. I have the external hard drive connected through the locked time capsules WiFi network so someone in the House can not access however if they walked the time capsule and not plugged in the external hard drive they could walk away with it. When I try to password protect external hard drive then time capsule may not recognise, and so I can't use it as an external hard drive that is shared. No one knows how, to password protect the external hard drive connected to the time capsule as if someone physically stole the external hard drive it would be locked, but have yet still recognizable by Time Capsule when I plugged?

    Hope that makes sense.

The only way to do is to encrypt the files on the computer.

And you both use the same password. Unfortunately, this probably means that you can not share files directly... The TC is not a SIN... never, it was designed for this purpose so there no controls to help admin file sharing.

If you create a DMG file on WD drive that encrypt you and you can copy files to and from... but only one at a time.

Another method would be to use a specific software... Watch chronosync.

    http://www.econtechnologies.com/Chronosync/guide-sync-with-disk-image.html

I don't him have not run in this configuration... so, you have to experiment if it manages what you want.

I think that there will always be limitations on concurrent access from multiple computers.

Are you still using OS X (10.4.10) on your Mac that you put in your profile?  This operating system is about 10 years, and it is hard to remember that far back.

If you have updated the operating system on your Mac, what system it runs right now?

  • Problems when you give Time Capsule, a soft reboot (to make a new password)

I'm giving my Time Capsule a new password because I forgot the old one. I tried to give it a soft reboot, then go to AirPort Utility and change the password. The problem is that when I reboot, my Time Capsule disappears from the AirPort Utility. Am I something wrong with it restarts? What can I do?

I got El Capitan and the new version of AirPort Utility.

Remove the TC of the network and plug in ethernet on the computer...

Do a complete factory reset and reconfigure the TC... no files are lost to do.

You may need to Exchange Airport utility over ethernet... Click on the

Other Wi - Fi devices in the upper left corner of the screen... When you connect through ethernet, you will see that it is now possible to switch to ethernet... It's 1000% more reliable than using wireless. The TC after a reset will appear here (1) that will allow you to start the installation program. I think you are missing at this stage.

  • Cannot add password to 1 St gen time capsule

I have a time capsule of first generation and is gone in there to add a password WIFI arrives but no device is able to connect (imac, ipad, iPhone, etc).

If I leave the unsecured network everything works as expected. In an area rural so that can work but not optimal.

Have tried all WPA2, WEP and WPA/WPA2 and all have the same behavior.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

You also change the name of the correct wireless network?  If this isn't the case, that will really mess up things since the devices will try store parameters to connect to the same network with and without a password name.

As it is, your "remember" as network devices requiring no not a password, so that they do not connect with a password.

Probably not what you want to hear at this stage, but it's a miracle that a 1st Gen Time Capsule still works. Most don't have 18 months and very little is ever beyond 36 months.

The Capsule will fail at any time now, so if you value the data on the Time Capsule, connect a USB to the Time Capsule and copy the content on the Time Capsule above the USB disk drive as soon as possible.
