Cannot add password to 1 St gen time capsule

I have a time capsule of first generation and is gone in there to add a password WIFI arrives but no device is able to connect (imac, ipad, iPhone, etc).

If I leave the unsecured network everything works as expected. In an area rural so that can work but not optimal.

Have tried all WPA2, WEP and WPA/WPA2 and all have the same behavior.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

You also change the name of the correct wireless network?  If this isn't the case, that will really mess up things since the devices will try store parameters to connect to the same network with and without a password name.

As it is, your "remember" as network devices requiring no not a password, so that they do not connect with a password.

Probably not what you want to hear at this stage, but it's a miracle that a 1st Gen Time Capsule still works. Most don't have 18 months and very little is ever beyond 36 months.

The Capsule will fail at any time now, so if you value the data on the Time Capsule, connect a USB to the Time Capsule and copy the content on the Time Capsule above the USB disk drive as soon as possible.

  • Upgrade of the fourth Gen Time Capsule

    I have one Capsule 2 TB fourth generation model A1409) and it turned out to be very reliable.  Unfortunately, the installed HARD drive is finally running out of storage space and so I'm looking to upgrade.  I searched the web and found a lot on the Time Capsule hard drive upgrade, but the results are usually on other models and with smaller discs etc..

    If possible, I would like to install a reliable 4 TB drive in my fourth Gen T.C. to be used as a primary backup for my MacBook Pro retina and my machine to Windows 10 ASUS T300 CHI 2-in-1.

    Are 4 TB of HARD drive is compatible with the fourth Gen Time Capsule?  And someone has nested together that they can recommend please?

    I keep reading that the Hitachi drives are the best players generally ultra low failure rate, but all Hitachi drives seem to be 7200 rpm disks and I have also read that drives to 5400 RPM 'Green' are the best for the time Capsule as they run cooler and consume less energy?

    I also read that drives Apple used to use the Hitachi drives but now sometimes use Wester Digital Caviar Green, who seem to have fail decently low too, although not as good as Hitachi?

    If I install a reliable 4 TB of HARD drive, I'll be very happy.

    Thank you

    4 TB hitachi (but they belong no longer to hitachi, it is now divided between Toshiba and WD) are a green car. IE 5400 RPM.

    But the 4 TB WD Green are very good readers. These are now available in sizes up to 6 TB... Although I'd stick to 4 TB because it's as much data as you want to lose in a go. One of these drives work ok in the TC.

    Remember that all drives fail eventually. If you use the TC for something else that backups... also use a secondary backup as well.

    Also, Windows is not super great on a TC... It reads the disks in FAT32 and have 4 GB file limits. It is too slow... much more slow than buying a good NAS drive, or an external drive that can be in NTFS format.

    The drive used in the Gen4 is a WD Green. If it worked very well for now... That's already 3-4years or more, then it should be ok.

    Note the Gen4 may die suddenly... do not think that will happen if the real TC gives out.

  • Cannot move the files, photos at airport Time Capsule

    Hello

    I want to transfer files, photos of my Time Capsule but I don't see anywhere on my macbook. I think that something I messed up when I was put in place at the time of Christmas trees. I'll start from the beginning. Before I bought my time capsule I was connected to the internet through my wireless router, name: GMZ-83313. After that I bought my Time Capsule I set up and connected to the internet. Problem is that I have 2 networks who I can connect it is: GMZ - 83313 and Daniel Wi - Fi network (finally...) I have three really because I started to play with it more and I have network of Wi - Fi for the 3rd networkDaniel 5 GHz ;(

    I just want to add that yesterday I was able to transfer photos from my time capsule and it showed here where you can see GMZ-83313. Yesterday, it was Ant Time Capsule of Daniel it was working fine.

    I'm lost please help. I have attached a shot of my airport utility screen:

    Click gmz-83313 under the Shared heading in the Finder window

    A folder that represents the Time Capsule... hard drive that is named 'Data', unless you have changed the name... appears in the window on the right

    Double click on data to open the player and install it on the desktop computer

    You can drag and drop the files to the disc on the desktop icon or the open window

  • Cannot add second child to StackPane several times

    Hello

    I have a StackPane table, which is filled with two ImageViews. First ImageView is a single image, second ImageView is the same for each StackPane:
           StackPane[] cards = new StackPane[gisView.length];
            for (int i = 0; i < cards.length; i++) {
                cards[i] = new StackPane();
                System.out.println(cards.getChildren().add(gisView[i]));
    System.out.println(cards[i].getChildren().add(topCard));
    System.out.println(cards[i].isManaged());
    System.out.println(cards[i].getChildren());
    }

    The problem is, that the second ImageView - topCard, is added only to first/last StackPane even I added it to every StackPane in cards.
    - both add() methods return true, as well as isManaged() method.
    - addAll(E...) doesn't work either even it returns true too.
    - I checked the errorProperty for every Image and there's no problem with loading the images.
    - both ImageViews do get added to StackPane inside the for loop, but there's only one ImageView in StackPane outside the for loop.

    I hope it's some trivial issue that I just can't spot.

  • Cannot add my Time Capsule to Support profile

    Since my first purchase of Apple, I've updated my media profile with all my products. The only one I can't add is my Time Capsule (1st generation).

    I don't know why: when I try to add the serial number it says it's a mistake.

    I have a profile of Italian and I bought time Capsule in the United States: would that be a problem?

    Thanx.

    Because of his age, Apple officially lists the 1st Gen Time Capsule as "Obsolete".

    That's why the Time Capsule is not accepted in your profile to support... since Apple offers help at all for the 1st Gen Time Capsule... even if you are prepared to pay.

  • How to join Time Machine to back up after I change my Time Capsule password?

    I changed my Time Capsule password using Airport utility, and now my Time Machine backup on my Time Capsule. How can I change the password for the Time Capsule disk so that it can continue to back up?

    How to change the word from Time Machine

    You can also try the Capsule in the Finder for editing by selecting the data folder. He will ask the password to connect to the time Capsule.

  • Use WAN connected airport Time Capsule as a wireless access point

    I had to replace a failed 4 Gen Time Capsule. I tried to install a new Gen 5 airport TimeCapsule via WAN and set up the airport to act as a wireless access point. It is installed in an area of my house with wireless coverage. In the network of AirPort Utility Mode section, I chose "extend a wireless network. The TC is restarted, I get an error message cannot find the intended wireless network.

    What I lack?

    "Extend a wireless network" is a parameter that is only used if the time Capsule need to connect to another router from Apple with the help of a Wi-Fi connection.

    You use Ethernet to connect, you must use the parameter to "create a wireless network. Use the same wireless network name and the same password as your "primary" router

  • Full time Capsule

    TIme Capsule 2 TB is almost full and doesen't work properly.

    Is there a way to reset?

    Not sure what you mean by "reset" here.

    When the Capsule is full and cannot continue the backups, you have 3 options to base... in order of most expensive on toward the bottom.

    (1) add an another Time Capsule and start backups to go.

    (2) add a USB key to the Time Capsule, copy the backups on the Time Capsule on the USB key, then erase the time Capsule and start new backups.

    (3) clear the Time Capsule disk and start over. Of course, the disadvantage of this method is that you lose your old backups.

    Alternatively, "reset" means something else. If so, please provide details.

  • UPNP Audio and Time Capsule

    I have 4 Gen Time Capsule.

    I have an Arcam AirDAC connected via Ethernet. The AirDAC is an AirPlay / UPNP enabled digital-to-analog converter for audio processing and power of an amplifier.

    Arcam say the AirDAC can process all the files an airplay / UPNP device.

    So I enabled UPNP (Port Mapping or as Apple calls it) on the TC. What I've done.

    But the Arcam app sees nothing. He sees my iPhone music library, but it is a standard feature of iOS. But no matter what I cannot see the audio files in the section shared my TC by using the application.

    I don't know if the iPhone gets the TC files then sends them to the DAC - or if its supposed to just 'direct' the AirDAC to find and process the desired files itself on the TC.

    Basically I want to just the DAC to treat my library of files FLAC, ALAC, stored on the TC, because they are too large to store on my iPhone / MacBook.

    Any ideas?

    So I enabled UPNP (Port Mapping or as Apple calls it) on the TC. What I've done.

    Just to be clear... Apple does not support UPNP... and port mapping is not at all the same thing... When you map a port it is corrected... UPNP is an automatic system which opens the ports when necessary, but can negotiate ports that has a fixed layout design can never do.

    All of this is irrelevant... UPnP and port forwarding or mapping is entirely to do with remote access to internet files... and the plague of NAT. that is how the router connects us to the internet... It does not in a LAN where all the ports are open by default. You can remove your port cards... they are useless in this configuration.

    But no matter what I cannot see the audio files in the section shared my TC by using the application.

    There is no server media in the TC... This is nothing more than a dumb box... it stores files... all the intelligence must be managed by the software on your computer or iOS device. Or the media player... what I interpret it DAC is not the case.

    Basically I want to just the DAC to treat my library of files FLAC, ALAC, stored on the TC, because they are too large to store on my iPhone / MacBook.

    Your player is very probably a streaming device... he can't see the files. Nor can the TC broadcast their... He has no brain.

    You must connect to a computer or a more intelligent than a TC device.

    Now I don't know the product... So just a quick glance that it is said.

    In addition, you can use AirPlay with iDevices running iOS7, to send music to your stereo services such as TuneIn Radio and vTuner Internet radio, as well as streaming music services such as Spotifyand Qobuz.

    The airDAC is one of the simplest ways to enjoy your music from your device UPnP, iPhone® / iPad® or computer running iTunes® and brings quality Arcam sound to a whole new generation of music lovers.

    I think it's important that you understand... a TC is NOT a upnp device... the port mapping does not make a... and this mixup of terminology does not help.

  • Time Capsule keeps losing express Extender

    I have a 4th Gen Time Capsule and 2 2nd Gen airport expresses configured as Extender.   Both were broadcast excellent for most.  Recently I discovered that there is something dead in my childhood bedroom.   So I decided to add a 3rd express to fill the void.   The installation program connected very well, without a hitch, but after awhile, I noticed that the 3rd express was not taking all the wireless devices.   He would show as connected but no information has been giving any information on the signal as it should.   I restarted the entire network and she came back to the top but after a little while the same problem.   Thinking it's a bum on purpose, I tried to reboot once more but this time the problem moved to another express, this time the master bedroom.    I know that he did not take due to the wireless devices all devices were connecting to the Capsule itself.   However there is a blu - ray player with no wifi plugged into the express and it connected right and was streaming the movies smoothly.    I am not finding a whole lot of troubleshooting on the net for the same problem, but have seen many parameters showing expresses more connected than mine.  I tried a reboot total of each device individually to see if it would help, but she also seem well yesterday when I put initially in place. Someone at - it ideas?

    It is really difficult to diagnose.

    What I think is happening, is that the Express pass connection TB who work... connection to another express which will not work.

    Apple does not seem to consider this never happens... but he does.

    The best solution is to run ethernet and use the Express as AP instead of Repeater.

    Since the simple reason that you run repeaters is to avoid running ethernet, I assume that this is not a viable alternative... so what about EOP adapters. They do not always work, but when they can work well.

    Again, if they also fail, you can try to force the connection but you already use for many units.

    Wireless is not really suitable for Repeater configurations... When you have 3 repeaters without the ability to change the names wireless... then it becomes a mess.

    I do not recommend that you assign a different name for the two bands on the TC.

    for example, TC24ghz and TC5ghz

    Installed at least 2 express to extend the strip of 5 GHz... and other 2.4 GHz... one is the worst spot signal.

    It may not work, but by changing the names and setting the wireless, give you him some hope of a connection just for the TC and does not paginate in the nearest Express.

  • Impossible to extend the existing wi - fi with time capsule airport

    Hello

    I have one Capsule of airport TB 2 hung on an Ethernet in my study (lower level).

    I already have an existing wi - fi network to ISP modem/router to my media box provided at the top level.

    In addition, I have an Extender provided by the ISP of lower level.

    I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

    I tried several times to do so, but either it freezes up or creates its own network despite the

    mode bridge as stated in Airport utility.

    Guide gently with the method or Protocol correct to put that in place.

    Thank you

    Jay

    I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

    It sounds like you may try to extend the network of your "main" router wireless

    The time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network if your 'main' router is also an Apple AirPort base station.  Or... in other words if your 'main' router is not an Apple product, then the time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network.

    So, the first question to ask here would be... What is the number of brand and model of your router "main"?

    If you intend to leave the time Capsule connected to your main router with an Ethernet connection, the Capsule must have the maximum value of "create a wireless network.  If you use the same wireless network name and password using your 'main' router, Time Capsule will provide additional wireless coverage in the area where it is located.

  • How to free up disk space on the airport time capsule?

    I want to add a new macbook to my time capsule 2 TB airport but I get the error message "needs space". Is there a way to free up space without erasing the whole time capsule?

    Only by deleting the files in the backup itself. If you use Time Machine, then you'd that uses the Time Machine application. It would be much easier to erase the drive in the time Capsule.

  • reset question and encryption Time capsule

    I have reset my Time Capsule with a hard reset (power off and the reset button on TC).  I've reset with the same password but do not know if my TC drive is always encrypted with the same password as before the hard reset.

    I lost control of my time Capsule when I changed to "DHCP and NAT" bridge mode  My TC works in an existing network with an Ethernet connection to the modem router modem/router for the broadband (Comcast) data and a separate wireless network.  I was watching my TC and noticed a few unidentified wireless clients. Without thinking carefully, I asked myself why I was in Bridge mode and past my TC bridge DHCP/NAT form.  Oops.

    I believe me who put in a double NAT situation and I have lost visibility and control my TC - I couldn't see or effect framework with Airport utility, running on a client computer wireless.  I tried several things but finally reset the TC and the same password of TC and set mode Bridge (the default value).  The backup disks safe when I look into TimeCapsule, I still show want to ensure that they have the same password as before I have not reset or tenant an encryption password.

    Reset a Time Capsule will not change the format of the disc. This requires the use of disk utility with the time Capsule disk tab Airport utility. The drive isn't yet sure unless you also reformatted it. It does not read like you did.

    If the Capsule worked properly in bridge mode, then be sure to return to this mode if you connect to another, not Apple, router or modem/router. If the Capsule is your only connection to a cable or DSL modem device, you can use normal DHCP.

  • My verse ATT modem (non apple devices to use this modem} is connected to the ATT line, Time Capsule (iPhones, Macs Time Capsule use) via ethernet Uverse.) Non apple devices can collect data from iPhones or Mac using the time Capsule?

    My verse ATT modem ({use of devices not apple wifi of this modem} is connected to the ATT line, Time Capsule (iPhones, Macs use the wifi of the time Capsule) and connect to the Uverse modem via ethernet.)

    Both devices are set to the highest security and each uses separate passwords.

    Non apple devices can collect data from iPhones or Mac using the time Capsule?

    With a bit of work by someone who knows how to do such things, not Apple computers could read some files on the Mac if file sharing is configured on the network... devices non-Apple and... He knew the device passwords or administrator for Macs.

    Mac could also play the files on other Macs if file sharing has been implemented and the device password or admin was known.

    If you ask if a PC can read the files on the Time Capsule, the answer is Yes, without doubt, assuming that the PC knew the password of device for the time Capsule.

  • Time Capsule drops connection

    I have a 3-4 years old Time Capsule (Gen 3 I think) and it suddenly started to abandon the wifi connection.  A reboot on the TC better - but I've seen a lot of posts about what is a problem.

    Is there anyway to diagnose the problem?

    On average, the useful lifetime of a time Capsule is about 3 years.  After that, the food begins descent position, which can cause a very brief momentary power loss, resulting in an interruption of the connection at any time.

    That the slides of supply of power more downhill, lost connections will increase more and more often.

    In short, this is the problem.  Unfortunately, I don't have a solution that you want to hear.

    Apple not offer repairs or spare parts for the time Capsule, and even if you can find a repair shop to work on the Time Capsule, they will have to try to find parts... which can be a challenge. Another fact to consider is that repairs... If they are possible... will likely cost more that the cost of a new Capsule of time... and you'll still have an old hard drive installed inside the time Capsule.

    If you do not have a 3rd Gen Time Capsule... it is at least 4 years and older and in function when it bought 6 +.  You have very, very well done.
