To access system information

I am trying to connect to a wireless router in my office for use with my gaming console.  During the installation process I am asked to provide the following documents: IP; Subnet mask; Default gateway; Preferred DNS server; and auxiliary DNS server.  Try as I might I can find no way to verify this information in my VISTA software.  Can someone explain how this is done.  Thanks in advance.

While the previous post explained how to obtain this information for this computer, the IP address of your computer is not going to be the same as the iP address of the router - you need the static address of the router.  The other information will probably be the same.  Chances are good that the IP address of the router is identical to the default gateway address - so I would use rather than what happens on the computer IP address (which if assigned by DHCP can change of logon to logon and the desired connection is with the router and not the computer).  On the other hand, it may also request an IP address for the game console (and not that of the computer or router).  Assuming there not the possibility to obtain one automatically from DHCP, you need to maybe set up a static IP address for the console which is not inconsistent with any other person being assigned by DHCP - and to do that you must go to DHCP and set up there - or ensure that it is not assigned to another thing (because does not exist until you created it).  Here is an article that can help with static iP addresses:http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/qt/staticipaddress.htm.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Cannot access my information system

    Hello.

I have a laptop Acer Aspire which worked OK until a month ago.
Started with each time that I turned to my computer that has started making the automatic updates that took about 30 minutes. And then when I turn back on it tells me that the updates were not properly installed.
SO I tried to access Windows Update to check and then realized that it does not open. I click on the symbol for windows update and a window appears and closes before you click on anything.
Same thing happens when I try to access my Information System, click on the symbol and a window appears and closes.
    What can I do? !!

    Hello AntoniaC,

Try to start your system in safe mode:

    1. Restart your computer if it is running.
    2. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on.
    3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or beep) you can stop.
    4. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
    5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.
    6. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments.
    7. You should then be at the Welcome screen.
    8. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! Once the scan done remove anything it finds. Simply restart your PC to see if your problem has been resolved!

If your system is clean, then run this analysis of Auditor system in SafeMode below files:

    1. click on Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click on command promptand select run as administrator.

    2. click on continue or provide credentials admin if prompted.

    3. in the command prompt window type the following, sfc/scannow (yes he's a space after sfc), and then press ENTER. This analysis may take some time to complete. This will replace missing/corrupted system with the right files from Microsoft files.

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

  • I installed 4 GB of RAM in my computer Windows XP which has detected correctly 4096 MB, but the system information that 2 GB of Ram available.

I recently installed a maximum of 4 GB of RAM for my Win XP Home computer: four tips of 1024Mo in 4 available memory locations. Story: It came with 512 MB of RAM (256 MB two cards to 2 of the 4 slots). I sometimes treat files large image or video in a few applications, and if I do too much without saving the files, I get something like "...". not enough memory to complete... "and can not save either and lose an hour or two of work, all frozen, treatment and once had to turn off the computer by pulling the power plug (nothing else worked). Later, I added two boards of 1024 MB and moved the two 256 MB for the other two locations. The computer has detected correctly the RAM and showed 2,560.00 of available physical memory total MB of RAM in system information and available physical memory 2.00 GB (currently about 550 MB, current process). I put 4 GB page file. That helped a lot with the processing of these applications, but if do not attention, the same "...". not enough memory... "thing and I lost the job. So I added another 2 identical cards of 1 GB replacing the two planks of 256 MB. The 4 GB of RAM, I've added exact IS correct type for my computer. Set the pagefile to 1.5 times RAM available, etc, so that's it of OK. NOW THE PROBLEM, if it'S a PROBLEM: in the information system RAM is detected OK, showing 4,096.00 MB total physical memory, BUT not much more available memory: 2.16 GB available physical memory! Total virtual memory 2.00 GB remains the same in both cases, even if I put the pagefile of 12 GB. Page file space shows what I put in more added about 2 GB.
SO THE QUESTION: Is all the 4 GB of RAM (essentially) available for use with my operations high megabytes to image and video processing applications?  Or is Win XP steal my RAM and makes the page file? What happens here? You wish to know if I've lost $120,00 on two more strips of 1 GB of memory. Thanks loads, if someone can tell me.
Did not have a pretty good test in image/video applications to find out if I won anything yet. Always the same 550MO ongoing process. And Yes, I spent hours on the things in forums of online learning on the page file and RAM, most of which I knew already, but there is no explanation on the information system does not more than 2 GB of RAM available.
Thanks loads, if someone can tell me.

"My OS is Windows XP family 32-bit." End of the story for the possibility to use up to 4 GB of RAM. No, there is no way to magic, you can force a Windows 32-bit operating system to use all 4 GB of RAM. There is a difference between the question of whether a motherboard will support a certain amount of memory and an operating system be able to access memory. Sorry, you missed this fact in your research. Oh, and if you want to try one of the many Linux distros do not forget to use a 64-bit - after checking your processor is 64-bit also. That yours is not.

  • Sony Vaio suddenly do not recognize the operating system information (sometimes ask my computer to claim it is not authentic) after owning nearly 2 years

I have had my Sony Vaio from January 2011 and I bought from Best Buy with Windows 7 pre-installed. I had no problems with the operating system being true til this summer when my computer wrong not dated and crashed my anti-virus software (screen was blue and the system had a difficult time in commissioning. After much patience and research, I fixed my computer and removed the faulty software. However, sometimes my computer does not recognize my product ID of Windows 7. When I start first my computer, the information is not available and that my computer updates, it will not update as it does not find the correct information. With this, my computer started to warn my that I am victim of counterfeit software. I have no idea where all this comes from and why is - it now say my software may be counterfeit? In the last year and a half, I never had this problem. Also, after a few minutes, my computer cannot find the operating system information and says that it is authentic; which leaves me more confused than ever. Gah. What is happening and what I can do to fix this? (I own the software disc, I got when I bought the computer, but I do not currently have access to it).

I suggest you backup and do a reinstall.

You should consult the documentation supplied with your Sony's Vaio computer on how to reinstall Windows 7. Usually this requires that you start in a recovery environment.

  • Pavilion g4: startup stops at UEFI "System information" screen

I'm working on Pavilion laptop g4 a friend for which he asked me to do a fresh install of Win7 Home Premium.

This is my first experience with the new EFI "bios" and it turns quite a steep learning curve!

I am at a loss to understand why every attempt to restart stops on the "system information" screen (rather than new startup in Windows):

I was able to successfully install Windows, but each causes to restart the sequence to stop at this same screen which makes it useless (for example) to perform a session support with a boot like TeamViewer tool that requires the computer to boot into Windows without supervision.

I spent more than a week of research on this issue and have not found someone with a similar experience. Therefore, I hope that someone here can help provide the solution.

If several sreen hats are needed, feel free to ask.

    Thanks in advance!

It's unfortunate... I expected that someone would have solid information to provide that at least I pointed in a direction that I could continue my investigation.

I don't care... I come back my friend g4 Pavilion this weekend since I was hanging on it hoping that I would be able to resolve the startup problem before doing so.

    So I'm marking THIS "resolved."

  • How can I change the system information

I inherited a computer for my daughter in law with XP Home OS on it. Can I change the operating system information easily?

If you mean 'Owner' and this information, Yes

However, what you need to do as far as the account (username) is conerned, it is create a new account in any name you want, and then delete the old - go to control panel, user accounts.

This avoids difficulties alter on if you siply change the username in use.

  • Cannot run 'system information '.

For some time now, I used "System information" to view the details of my office (ongoing running XP Pro SP #3 and all updates).  For more convenience, I placed a shortcut on my desktop.  Recently it has stopped working and I get a message: "Windows cannot open help and Support because a system service is not ongoing.  «To resolve this problem, start the service named «help and Support»»

When I click Start and then click Help and Support, I get an error message: "windows cannot find helpctr.exe.

    What I'm missing here?

Do you mean you see a message like this:

Windows cannot open "helpctr.exe".  Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.

    Or something like this:

Windows cannot open help and Support because a system service is not ongoing enforcement.
To resolve this problem, start the service named 'help and Support '.

Help and Support sometimes gets broken up with overzealous cleaning and there are a lot of things to 'try' who sometimes work and sometimes they are not. Sometimes people drop everything simply and never reuse Help and Support Center, but it can still be repaired.

Before making any changes to your registry (although I hope that this update), manually create a Restore Point, and then make a copy of your registry with this free and popular tool:

Then go to this page WWW of Riou (thanks, Ramesh).

    http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/startmenuhelp.htm

When you click the file startmenuhelp.reg on this page with your browser, you will see a bunch of text which is information of record that you want to apply to your system.  It seems daunting, but it's not so bad.

Press Ctrl + A to select all the text, then press Ctrl-C to copy the text to the Windows Clipboard.

Click Start, run, and then in the box, type:

    notebook

Click OK to open a new Notepad file.

Press Ctrl + V to paste the information that you copied into the Windows Clipboard in the Notepad file.  Save the new file in Notepad on your desktop and name the new file something he can hold, as:

    startmenuhelp.reg

Quit Notepad and double click the file startmenuhelp.reg on your desktop and respond in the affirmative to the question about adding information to your registry.

Test your help and your support now, then restart and test again to make sure that the changes 'stick' with a reboot.

You can delete the file startmenuhelp.reg to your desktop.

If that does not do it, we just reinstalled the whole shebang (just the help) and Support.

  • DIMM ERR appears in the system BIOS System Information

I have a new FM066UT #ABA z400.  I received the additional memory from Crucial.  When I installed the DIMM in slot 2 was defective.   I went there with slot 4 and it was also defective in this market niche.  They replaced and I installed today.  Now when I look at the system information in the splash screen, it shows a yellow ERR on DIMM2.  I moved 2-6 module and system information always displays the ERR and when I go in windows it says I have 16 GB of memory, but only 12 can be used.  What is the problem with slot 2?  A way to fix it?

Everything is now resolved.  I reinstalled the DIMMs and now everything is fine.

    Hello

I seem to be having problems when you try to install a program on my Windows 7 that allows to launch on my Windows XP and Windows Vista. I used the tool to solve compatibility problems and selected these settings in the CONFIGURATION file, but nothing seems to work the error message I get is as follows:

"This version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using. Check your computer's system information to see if you need a x 86 (32 bit) or x 64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. »

Is it possible to set my computer to allow this program to run successfully? Any solution would be greatly useful.

    Hello Rdforbe,

The problem is a software that was created for Windows 95, 98, and Windows XP has no way to work correctly with an operating system that didn't even exist when the software was written. However, the error message you get normally means that you have a 32-bit software that you are trying to install on a 64-bit system.

To find out if your computer is running 32-bit Windows or 64-bit, follow these steps:
System opened by clicking on the button start , by clicking on the Control Panel, click System.
Under system, you can view the system type. This will describe if you have 32-bit or 64-bit.

You can also try compatibility mode.

If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.

    Use the following steps:

    (1) right click on the program

    2) click Properties

    3) click on the Compatibility tab

    (4) select run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows Vista or other operating system, the program has been run successfully.

Check out the link here: make sure to run older programs in this version of Windows

If you are running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate version, install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and run your software in Windows XP.

If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player (www.vmware.com), or any other software virtualization part 3rd and install a separate copy of Windows XP (family or professional edition) for this purpose. You can find the virtualization software free that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.

    I hope this helps.
