    Hello
    1. are you able to install other programs?

This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
    1. the Windows Installer files that are on your drive hard are missing or are damaged.
    2. you install or remove a program that uses the package file to install software for the Microsoft install (MSI) Windows (.msi).

To resolve this problem, use the following methods.
    Method 1: Reregister Windows install.
    1. Click Start, type cmd, right-click on cmd, and then click Run as administrator.
    2. at the command prompt type msiexec /unreg and then press ENTER.
    3. at the prompt, type msiexec/regserver, and then press ENTER.

Method 2: Disable the .NET Framework 3.0 before installing .NET Framework 2.0
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 is the default version built into Windows Vista. We recommend that you first cross check if it is enabled in the Windows features turn on or off. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. click on start, type optionalfeatures and press to enter.

  • DEP closing Windows Installer

    Hello

I recently had a problem where whenever something is installed by using Windows Installer. DEP forcefully leaves the program and stop the service. It keeps me to install anything from Windows Update. I've had this problem for a few days now. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and my version of Windows Installer is 4.5. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

    Kevin

    Dragon fur,

I decided to take the safe route and uninstall and reinstall the .NET framework. After that, so any updates installed, and it does not seem that I receive the error to Windows Installer more. I will give you and erico congratulations for taking the time to help me. I'll also post what steps I took to fix the error for those who may run into the same problem as mine.

I started getting an error indicating that Windows Installer has stopped working whenever I tried to update via Windows Update. After a few days trying SFC analyses and checks of the drive with no results, I decided to look in when this error first started happening. I checked the event viewer to search for the start date, which ends up being around 12/12/2011.

I came across an error report that says the following:

Windows cannot access the file C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\clr.dll to one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the file is stored on the disc or the storage drivers installed on this computer. or the drive is missing. Windows has closed the installer program for Windows® because of this error.

    : Program Windows® installation
    File: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\clr.dll

The error value is listed in the additional data section.
    User action
    1. open the file again. This could be a temporary problem that can be corrected when the program runs again.
    2. If the file is still not accessible and
-C' is on the network, your network administrator must verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
-C' is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or a CD-ROM, check that the disc is inserted into the computer.
    3. check and repair file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, run, type CMD and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F and then press ENTER.
    4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
5 determine whether other files on the same drive can be opened. If this is not the case, the disc could be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for assistance.

    Additional data
    Error value: C0000185

After trying the first 3 steps and it does not work. I decided to do a new install of the .NET Framework. This allowed me to start updating again and go through all the previous failed updates without the error still to come.

Thanks again to Dragon-fur and erico for your help
