transfer of files to secondary drive

How can I move my user files (music, games, office documents, etc.) to a secondary internal IDE drive?

Copy/paste or drag/drop?

Scheduled task?

Or do you mean that you want to redirect your ' my documents '?

If this is the case, can I transfer the files to a HP Pavilion Slimline, System nr. AW014AV #ABA, MXV95302WQ series or drive hard portable 500 GB?

    Hello

It does not start up, which means you must use different way to recover (cannot transfer because the machine is dead) files. First of all you must check the machine, why it does not start? Any error? If the associated HARD disk problem you can test the HDD using HDD self-test. HARD drive may be allowed or may be dead.

    (a) if ok and cannot fix the machine: you can pull, put it in an enclosure and it becomes an external HARD drive.

    (b) if nok: you may need a professional service to retrieve files for you.

    Kind regards.

I took chase him and attempted to transfer the files to another drive, and authorities wouldn't allow it. Need either re authenticate the reader to allow access, or find a way to UN-encrypt files and transfer them.

  • Data transfer between 8300XP and 8.1 of Windows using an external drive of 1TD will be my transfer of files to the new system?

I have an old Dell 8300 XP for 12 years and just got a HP Pavilion 23. Bought a WD 1TD disk transfer the data from my old computer to my new computer? Also, my old computer has some type of pass protection, when entering data on a disk or diskette that appears to be empty on any other computer. Do I have to remove the password protection before I transfer my data to the external hard drive?

If your files are encrypted - you have Windows XP Professional, use the EFS file system and the files appear in the Green type when you look in Windows Explorer - then Yes, you have to decrypt (remove them the password) before you transfer the files.

If you mean that you must enter a password to connect to your XP computer but otherwise have no password protected individual files, so No, mustn't do something for files before transferring them.

Perhaps you could clarify what you mean by "when entering the data on a drive or a floppy drive he seemed to empty on any other computer."

If you are unsure if you have XP Pro, made a click right desktop and select "Properties".

How can I transfer video files to the library in windows media player for an external hard drive. My os is Windows XP Home Edition and I use wmp 11.

  • Windows XP - a problem to transfer big file from laptop on an external hard drive

I have a problem to transfer large files (mail.pst - zipped file - 5Gbyte) of the laptop (Dell Latitude D630) on an external hard drive (WD 320 G - FAT 32) where each time, I got the message "there is not enough free space on the disk" although I did successfully drive clean on both sides and there is enough space on both sides (not less than 25 GB).

Also, I did a checkdisk command and he succeeded, and I use Windows XP

I did several tests to resolve and in the end, I found that I convert the format of external hard drive FAT 32 to NTFS, and then I could successfully transfer the file.

    I used the following commands:

    (1) command line then chkdsk to repair bad sectors

    (2) convert the command line to change the format to FAt 32 to NTFS

Note: For Windows xp, "convert" command will not delete the files from the hard drive

  • Transfer of files between drives: data loss or corruption?

    1. Is there data loss or corruption during the transfer of files between disks in Windows 7?
    2. What about very large files, gigabytes in size?
    3. Is it possible to check if there is data loss or corruption?

Creation and verification of a checksum is a file operation.  It doesn't matter where the files are stored.

It doesn't matter if the source is a CD, a USB flash drive or a hard drive.  As much as the destination is concerned, if you write a large file on a CD, the possibility of error is greater if copy to a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.  Which is why you often see tips to burn at the slowest speed available when writing large critical files as an ISO installation file.

The only difference between 'copy' and 'move' is this movement copies the file and automatically deletes the original.

You want to make sure that the file copied correctly before the original has disappeared.  The way to ensure that is to perform a copy operation, check the integrity of the copied file and delete the original.

  • Easy Transfer Wizard error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings. The download file size is 40 GB and I have a C: drive that says he has 280 GB free and a D: drive has 298 GB free.

I made a successful backup of the Easy Transfer of files on an external hard drive.  Previously, this computer was in Vista for more than 1 year without any problem.

After you perform a custom installation (I wanted to start with a clean install) of Win7, everything works.  I installed the Windows/Office updates and all my other program files.  When I run the transfer Assistant, it locates the 'old computer' transfer file and reads OK, showing users and the size of the 40.1 GB file transfer.  When I click the button forward, I get error: there is not enough available disk space to transfer your files and settings.  However, I have more than 280 GB free on my C: drive.

This disc is watching him and what should I do to work around this problem.  If I can't get my files/settings back, I'll be VERY unhappy customer.

I've just passed through even - WET previous Dell PC running Windows 7 Ultimate to HP with Windows 7 Home Premium. The Belkin Easy Transfer cable help.
WET said not enough space even if the hard drive is twice the size.
I clicked on "Advanced" and noticed that WET strives also transfer Dell factory image from the recovery partition and the HP recovery partition was smaller.
I unticked (unchecked) files recovery partitio on old computer and everything is going very well from hand to hand.

  • Failed to create the paging to a secondary drive file

I recently installed a secondary hard drive in my laptop, and I'm trying to move the swap file to this drive to increase performance. However, for some reason, the system is unable to create a swap file on the secondary drive (d). To be precise, this is what happens:

    1. I go to system properties > advanced > settings > advanced > change and together an exchange of files on drive d (I tried to do "managed system" or setting a specific size, but that makes no difference). For now, I keep the pagefile on the C: drive as well.
    2. I click on save and see 'total size pagefile for all readers' increased appropriately.
    3. I navigate to D:\ and see that pagefile.sys has been created successfully.
    4. I restart my computer.
    5. D:\pagefile.sys has disappeared; "all readers of the total paging file size" shows the old value (i.e. not counting the pagefile on D :).)
I did some research and have already tried the following:
    1. Running 'sc config afs start = disabled' - there is no such service on my computer
    2. Setting the size of page on D: "management system" file - it is always not get created
    3. Check the permissions on the d: - both COMPNAME\system and COMPNAME\Administrators have full control access. drive is owned by system
    4. Also tried disabling the pagefile on the c: completely - what makes Windows generates an error message "Windows created a temporary swap file on your computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer". The system creates a temporary pagefile on C:, but none on D:.
    5. Finally, I ran sfc/scannow, and he finds no errors.
What Miss me? What is the problem with my D: drive? It is formatted in NTFS and has 30 GB of free space.
Tips, links, wild guesses is very much appreciated.
P.S. The system chart: HP 6930p (Core 2 Duo 9400), 3 GB RAM, Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit.

    1. it is not dedicated in the pagefile, but as much as I know this isn't a requirement, right?

    2. I expected to be able to create a pagination on the D: drive, even if it has other files.

    3. I tried it both ways - with a nominal pagefile on C: (different sizes) and without it. In all cases the paging on D: file not be enabled.

    1. a dedicated partition is preferable. Swap files mixed with other files, unless the minimum fixed = maximum, increase in the rate of fragmentation of other files and free disk space.

    2. what pagefile parameter you try to apply?

    3. advice on swap files made with Windows XP in mind. Increase in RAM memory and the pagefile is used may have changed. Of course, there are different views on the defragmentation from Microsoft programmers today. Personally as a user I have reservations about evolution.

    Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

  • Transfer of files from the old HARD DRIVE to new computer without an old computer. (He's dead - can not use) I have the hard drive, but need help to transfer my old files and settings.

    ·        My old Win XP computer died - it is completely unusable. I bought a new PC with Win 7 Pro and 1 TB. I still have the old HARD DRIVE (250 GB) which I have attached on the new computer using an external enclosure supports SATA drives. The external hard drive is connected to the computer in USB 3.0. I checked that the new computer can see the external hard drive. (I also used for backups by changing the hard drive with a 2 TB drive 'mass storage' - that works.)

I searched the internet for possible solutions and found no help. If the transfer of files from Microsoft would change the disc to analyze, it would be simple. But if I select the OLD computer it scans the disk I'm on (new) - automatically.

Is there anyone who has had the same problem? He must be because computers die all the time and people buy new computers - who then, somehow, they get the former transferred files. I could do it manually, but that wouldn't change the settings. Last resort would be to buy an old computer XP (SATA), replace the drive. Transfer the files, and then sell this computer.

You may be able to recover your data files, but I hope that you will set up your new system to automatically backup a second internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive.

This suggestion may not work, but it's worth a try. Buy an external USB drive enclosure. They come in two sizes 2.5 "for the portable computer drives and 3.5" for desktop disks. You can purchase adapters for 3.5 "envelopes so that they can also be used with a portable player. Place the hard drive in the enclosure and connect to a USB port of another computer. Several hard disks are more able to start, but the contents of the disc can still be accessed, read and copied from the disk because you do not use the operating system on a failed disk.

Here is an example of the type of device, I suggest:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=external+hardrive+enclosure&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=14388537836&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=556960941559985931&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_32uorbwbuk_b

You need only to the speaker, that you see are not necessarily more expensive. Thereafter, you can put an old hard drive usable, an abandoned because you need a larger drive internal, in the enclosure and use it as additional external storage.
