Transfer of Vms between ESXI

Boa noite colegas,

Tendo 2 com ESXI hosts.

Qual seria a best practice by transfer of Vms between estes hosts com ESXI?

Desde ja Agradea§o a bonitos,.

    3. Is it possible to check if there is data loss or corruption?

Creation and verification of a checksum is a file operation.  It doesn't matter where the files are stored.

It doesn't matter if the source is a CD, a USB flash drive or a hard drive.  As much as the destination is concerned, if you write a large file on a CD, the possibility of error is greater if copy to a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.  Which is why you often see tips to burn at the slowest speed available when writing large critical files as an ISO installation file.

The only difference between 'copy' and 'move' is this movement copies the file and automatically deletes the original.

You want to make sure that the file copied correctly before the original has disappeared.  The way to ensure that is to perform a copy operation, check the integrity of the copied file and delete the original.

  • As part of the SAR cert is to have a NW separated between ESXi host required for VMotion or is it OK to use IP for VMotion management, in the execution of Certification tests.

As part of the SAR cert is "have a NW/dedicated separate between hosts ESXi (on which we GOS) mandatory for VMotion or is - OK to use IP for VMotion management in the execution of Certification tests.»

Note that the verification passed Test when you use management IP for Vmotion and without a dedicated connection to NW between ESXi hosts.

Separate dedicated network interface cards preferred. No problem with the test after this change case.

    Thank you very much

a 1 MB/s transfer rate is normal? you know a way to improve the performance of the network?

    Hello

This work is a line perhaps? If you use VMFS as target, you must double check the block size, if it is the default 1 MB, the maximum size of a vmdk disk is 256 GB.

The value you got 274878668800 bytes, divided three times by 1024, gives you exactly 256.0007095336914 GB. This is probably the problem.

PS: I saw your error screencap you come to Italy, visit us on the pages of Italian user :-) group

  • How to connect two ESXi hosts with a connection to 1Gbps via ADJUSTABLE and the transfer of files between them?

    Dear community,

Like many of you, I am facing the problem of executing an effective backup of VMs. unfortunately I can't use standard methods: my servers are rented from the root servers and therefore haver some limits. Their main NIC is connected to the Internet on the speed of 100 MB. It's very slow, if I try to VM backup via this connection images. In addition, backup sessions running through the shared management interface are affecting the production of virtual machine performance.

To resolve this problem, I ordered an additional network card to each server and asked the data center to connect my themwith a physical link (crossover cable). OK, between my servers 1Gbit link is established, but how do you use now?

-I can not move the management interface of these cards, because they have no connection to the internet.

-I can't use among the guest computers because the guest computer is unable to access the files on disk on the host computer.

So, I've exhausted all my ideas. Maybe someone knows the trick that will let me use 1 GB link between two machines of ESXi to mutually backup disks of virtual machines from one host to another.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Create a vSwitch on each host and set the NETWORK adapter that you will use with the x-over cable.

Create a portgroup Console of service on each vSwitch and assign it an IP address on the same subnet for each server (router/gateway address does not necessary) for example 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 on each host.

Connect the cables between the server network cards.

You should have a link between two service consoles. I now download and deploy the device of the vMA, on the two hosts for the fault tolerance. Write a script on the VMAs on each host to a-i vmkfstools from one host to another and vice versa.

If you have virtual machines registered pointing these VMDK on both hosts, then have your scripts remove the VMDK and re - the clone using vmfkstools whenever you back up, you should have a backup solution of rudimentary virtual machine (full copy) in place.

Now you do not miss the service console?

    Good luck

  • Transfer of VMS to ESX ESXi's network

We have a cluster with two nodes 3.5 update 4 where we have a production VMs.

Developers have installed ESXi on a stand-alone machine that does not have access to a shared storage used by the cluster, so I have to find a way to move virtual machines from the ESXi host to the cluster on the network; It is okay to turn off the virtual machines while moving them.

I was thinking about ssh (ftp or any other means, but using ESXi with no service console I don't know what the best thing to do, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a way to do this, considering also that I've never used ssh to move the file so I need guidance here as well.)

    Thank you in advance.

AFAIK, you can connect to ESXi and ESX and do directly. I use it to copy directly between the ESX servers. I have no ESXi, but that shouldn't make a difference.

The tool uses SSH as a control channel, but the data is copied using FTP directly between hosts.

  • Move VMS between server ESXi and vSphere ESX server

    Dear all,

I want to move some a vSphere ESX server virtual machines to ESXi server.

I understand that some users will use CPS to move between the ESX servers, but apparently not for moving between different products.

I'm just using a slow and prone to error method:

The files of the virtual machine to my deskop PC of vSphere ESX server and then upload to the ESXi server.

I would advise you to please all of the methods that is better than this one?

    Help, please.

    Kind regards

    Tommy

If you got a central storage you can move virtual machines between the two products with vMotion. Since you don't seem to have available vMotion, you pouvez use scp. SCP has nothing to do with ESX/ESXi products. It is a Linux/Unix program which is available in both servers.

So with the CPS, you need a little less.

    The syntax is like:

    SCP - r/path/to/vm/directory user@esxi:/path/to/new/location

  • Need help migrating desktop VMs to ESXi 5

Recently, I have set up my ESXi server but am having a hard time, all my images (VMware Fusion) Office move to my new server.

I tried two approaches: VMware Converter and OVF models with success mixed in both.

For VMWare Converter, almost half of the virtual machines I try to convert gives me this error when I select the source image and click Next: "unable to get material for the selected machine information.

I was not able to find a common point between those who work and those who are not. Some are Linux, some are Windows 7, Server 2008, etc.

For those who does not work with converter I tried to convert to the FVO, however, I see mixed results there too. Some work, but others when I click on deploy OVF in VSphere process completes very quickly and I noticed that the vmdk is created in my data store but 0 bytes. So, when I try to start the virtual computer fails because it cannot find an operating system.

Someone has a better approach or may help to explain why I see this issue? VMWare Converter seems to be the way to go, I can't go beyond this error on some of my machines!

To run the VMs Fusion in ESXi, you don't have a converter, and you don't need FVO-export.

The vmx file is already compatible ESXi.
The vmdk can be made compatible with ESXi
-vmware-vdiskmanager (if you do it on the merger)
-vmkfstools (if you do on ESXi)

So, basically, you just download vmx and vmdk with SCP, Datastorebrowser, or whatever you prefer.

  • Migration of VMs between Clusters

I'm building a new cluster (esxi 4.1) and want to redesign my network configuration. Current cluster has 1 dvSwitch with 4 natachasery on each host. All the ports are on this 1 dvSwitch. My new cluster has 10 natachasery and I wanted to install 1 - dvS with 2 natachasery for management/vmotion; 1 - dvS with 4 natachasery for VM VLAN; 1 - dvS with 2 natachasery for the feet and the last 2 natachasery for future use.

My problem is that if I set up my network the way I want on the new cluster how can I go on VMs migration to him without a break in service? Cannot vmotion between dvSwitches.

You may only create an ESXi host for the purpose of migration. Add the new host at the same time the existing vDS and the new vDS.

Migrate virtual machines on the host of the migration and then reallocate the VM Networking NIC for the new vDS. Then migrate comments to the new cluster host configured with your end-state configuration. You will have a very short disconnection time when you change the port used by the virtual machine, but as long as it is on the same subnet, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Hello

  • Migration of VMs between data warehouses

I added a new data store to a vSphere 5.5 infrastructure and created a few scheduled tasks to migrate under tension on the virtual machines between data warehouses.

The migration is successful, but on the source data store, I still see a lot of files for some migrated VMs, including the .vswp and vmware files - xx.log.

This means that the scheduled task has failed?

What have I to do to completely move virtual machines?

Should I turn off and turn on the virtual machine?

    Concerning

    Marius

Maybe this file are simply zombie files, generated cause an improper shutdown of the VM (take a look at the date of creation/modification of files). You can try to rename these files, if you are able to do so, these files aren't really in use. After you rename and make sure that the virtual machine works as expected, you can manually delete the files.

    Hi PhilippD!

It seems that you have reached a vice that crept into the manipulation of workstation s 9.0.2' of remote USB devices.  We have fixed the problem in our internal versions of workstation, but until an updated version is made public, it seems that you need to roll back to the workstation 9.0.1 if you need to work around the problem.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!
