Transfer of VMS to ESX ESXi's network

We have a cluster with two nodes 3.5 update 4 where we have a production VMs.

Developers have installed ESXi on a stand-alone machine that does not have access to a shared storage used by the cluster, so I have to find a way to move virtual machines from the ESXi host to the cluster on the network; It is okay to turn off the virtual machines while moving them.

I was thinking about ssh (ftp or any other means, but using ESXi with no service console I don't know what the best thing to do, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a way to do this, considering also that I've never used ssh to move the file so I need guidance here as well.)

Thank you in advance.

AFAIK, you can connect to ESXi and ESX and do directly. I use it to copy directly between the ESX servers. I have no ESXi, but that shouldn't make a difference.

The tool uses SSH as a control channel, but the data is copied using FTP directly between hosts.

    Hello

as this comment by DOC from VMWare, in the 'internal' invited you will just be able to run 32-bit clients, never a 64 bit one.

  • Move VMS between server ESXi and vSphere ESX server

    Dear all,

I want to move some a vSphere ESX server virtual machines to ESXi server.

I understand that some users will use CPS to move between the ESX servers, but apparently not for moving between different products.

I'm just using a slow and prone to error method:

The files of the virtual machine to my deskop PC of vSphere ESX server and then upload to the ESXi server.

I would advise you to please all of the methods that is better than this one?

    Help, please.

    Kind regards

    Tommy

If you got a central storage you can move virtual machines between the two products with vMotion. Since you don't seem to have available vMotion, you pouvez use scp. SCP has nothing to do with ESX/ESXi products. It is a Linux/Unix program which is available in both servers.

So with the CPS, you need a little less.

    The syntax is like:

    SCP - r/path/to/vm/directory user@esxi:/path/to/new/location

    Hi all

I have a doubt about the configuration of ESX/ESXi in congiunction with ucs years n1k.

If I use the channel (mac-pinning based due to material ucs) on n1k and I have only two NIC (M71KR) card can I properly configure FT/HA or DRS.

having a port-channel vmware is informed of nic ha? I may have some redundant warning as a note to management interface or stuff like that?

    any idea of?

    TNX

    Dan

    Dan,

We work with the DRS, FT and HA. You will be able to configure a Port-Channel with MAC-pinning and always use DRS, the FT and HA feature.

To create the channel port, you must add the two network interface cards to the DVS in a perspective of VMware is aware that you have redundancy NIC.

2 hay alguna mid-week/requerimiento para o ESX ESXi a cluster mismo dentro solo use?

So, no any problema esta totally soportado hat.

2 hay alguna mid-week/requerimiento para o ESX ESXi a cluster mismo dentro solo use?

If the transport are Quebec City el siempre tenga el mismo cluster build in los ESX.

También lo important are todas los ESX vean las premium redes y same data warehouses.

Also important that if tenes a cluster esx mixtos, al menos tengas homogeneas con las vmware tools intaladas in las vms.

    Saludos y buen Año!

  • Broadcom 57711 + ESX/ESXi 4.1 + Jumbo frames

Having a few problems getting Broadcom 57711 NIC working on ESX/ESXi 4.1 with MTU 9000.

ESX/ESXi 4.0 U2 I have no problems to do and work MTU 9000 and I can push our strong enough EQL PS6010 SAN get 550 000 kbit/s with e/s meter runs inside 4 x VM.

I read the documentation and found that an MTU of 1500 is supported only for the NIC in ESX/ESXi 4.1 57711. It has somethig to do with the fact that these cards have hardware iSCSI unloading, there is additional iSCSI adapters that appear under the storage adapters heading 4.1 hosts.

I everything configured properly with 1:1 binding maps iSCSI network to ports VMK iSCSI with an MTU of 1500. When configured, this is the max that I can get out the SAN is 280 000 kbit/s. If I try the same process using the virtual machine a MTU of 9000 / host appears to stop responding.

While I understand that it is a limitation of 1500 when using iSCSI NIC hardware I am unable to get the iSCSI Software to work with a MTU of 9000 on ESX/ESXi 4.1. If I try the software iSCSI using a MTU of 9000 of the VM / host appears to stop responding.

Is also a limitation, or am I missing something.

Is there anyone else out there has the same problems as me?

  • Best way to go to ESX ESXi

I installed ESX 4 Trail on a host with the intentions to throw some virtual machines on it for testing only.   Of

course always go as non-scheduled plans for the finished VMS used long term testing.  The trial of

ESX expires soon, so I start looking into my options for this configuration.

We have a different configuration of ESX 3.5 with 3 guests and an iSCSI SAN shared storage environment.   We do not have

have an immediate plan to upgrade this 4.0 but will appear in the next quarter or two, I hope.

My question is what would be the best plan to move that 3 VMs on I have currently on the ESX 4 4i ESX host in the interim until I have install

    4 on the production environment.

I tried to use the VM converter for V7 V4 to hardware to run on ESX 3.5 hosts, but it caused a lot of disk

questions for windows that I have been unable to correct.

My understanding is that installation on ESX ESXi will wipe away all my outgoing partitions that will be deleted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are two options, depending on your environment.

What you basically have to do is to restore backup (with a few options) virtual machines.

1.) If you have enough space on your iSCSI storage space, move the virtual machine to your storage space. Install ESXi and attach it to the iSCSI storage.

    (2) in the case of a server and you have a little empty bays for HARD drives, add a new example RAID1 group, make primary to boot from, the ESXi installation and joining the existing data store "old."

3.) temporarily add an another HARD drive, copy of the VM on the HARD drive using the data store Navigator. Install ESXi and copy the virtual machine on the new data store.

4.) backup and restore the virtual computer.

  • Conversion of 4i VMs on ESX 3.5 ESX

We are preparing to install ESXi on a new Dell R710 server. We have 3 guests ESX 3.5 running in production. I am trying to decide whether to install ESXi 3.5 or ESXi 4. We want virtual machines that are running on the ESXi box to migrate ESX 3.5 cluster if necessary. I looked the Converter release notes and sees no ESXi as a platform to source converter supported. He said vSphere 4, but I wasn't as sayint that esxi 4 has been supported.

So... If we want configuration VMs on our ESXi host and migrate running on ESX 3.5, should we simply install ESXi 3.5 or can converter downgrade our VMS in ESXi 4 ESX 3.5.

Let me know what your experiences have shown you.

    Thanks, Aubrey

So... If we want configuration VMs on our ESXi host and migrate running on ESX 3.5, should we simply install ESXi 3.5 or can converter downgrade our VMS in ESXi 4 ESX 3.5.

ESXi is a supported source and destination for VMware Converter.  When we support "ESX" This includes ESXi and "ESX Classic" people have come to know.

In regards to moving between versions... If you use vCenter 4.0 to manage these hosts, you can migrate them using the context Menu option "migrate."

The only restriction is to ensure that all virtual machines are built to specifications ESX 3.5.  i.e. vHardware 4 and no. thin disks.

  • Change the path information for ESX ESXi hosts to access

Hello all! I hope you guys can help me.

I have about 47 hosts that I need to change it Round Robin storage path information. If I make the change in vCenter and restart the host it again changing fixed. So, I thought that I should change it to the level of the host through esxicli.

I have about twice as many LUNS of the Hitachi SAN. I'd like to see if it is possible to make the change in all areas, in some way, or I need to make the change by host? Also, is there anything that I need to change sides San so that it works or not.

I saw this VMware KB: modification of path information for ESX/ESXi hosts to access and assume that it is the best plan? But did not know of all put into custody, if necessary, that everyone ran to when doing this?

You will need to make the change by the host and the KB you'll find is the right method.
