Try to restore the files after replaced HD, 'backup location is not available' despite having backup full

New HD installed and have all my backup files. When I use files restore - advanced restore - they are on an external hard drive, it is said first that the backup file is not available, although I can see all the files on the hard drive. Then asks me to create an account with the same name that my old account, she wants one with a / symbol in there, but said then I can't use symbols. The only way I can get the files to cross is to choose a different location to save in but then of course they are not anyone is easy to use... I would like that all of the images in the photo file, all the music in the music file, etc..  Also as I have many back ups I don't know which of the back ups to install - latest seems to have only the files that have changed since the last backup... what I need to install the oldest and the newest? or all of them? and I'm supposed to now spend hours finding all files and moving them to the right places? Guess that's what an automatic backup system was supposed to avoid...

You use the option "files from a backup made on a different computer? Although it is the same computer, the fact that Vista has been reinstalled means that it may seem as if it isn't.

The DELL PC anne/anne account that is specified is actually the name of the computer before the slash, is anne DELL PC and the user name after, Anne. The computer name was changed when has been reinstalled Vista?

  • How to restore the bookmarks after an emergency backup who left only the bare remnants files of Mozilla?

Stats: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit operating system. Currently using Firefox 22.0.

Details: Before that, I had an outdated version of Firefox are installed which I do not know which one it was. It may be 2-3 versions before version 22.0. I had a few hundred Favorites on Firefox when my computer became suddenly blue screen and I quickly restored it using emergency backup software that is built with the computer. It basically restored the computer while safeguarding * MOST * files from the previous installation.

Fast forward, I went to see if I could pick my favorites, but only left value files were in the APPDATA roaming and APPDATA local files. This is the profile folders, but there is virtually nothing in it that can be opened or used. As records skeletons without meat. There are thumbnails of Web sites previous that I visited on the last installation, and that has been about it.

I tried to see if I could copy the old empty profiles folder in an attempt to use the Profile Manager and paste it into the new installation of Firefox, but I couldn't open the Profile Manager.

I read the articles that have been recommended by the website so feel free to submit your questions and assistance. Anything help! I have re-learned a useful lesson, always save your bookmarks!

How can I return my favorites?

Oh not at all, it's my fault for not not being prepared. It's a good lesson to learn to always save files especially with huge storage of our days. Back in the old days, they would use the floppy drives that were considered the height of storage technology!

No, I have never had an account to sync with Firefox but will have to keep in mind for future cases of lost bookmarks. However, what was lost is found again! One way or another!

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Hello

My husband has recently "outsourced" taking with him to our office and all software, disks, etc. I'm afraid of an accident as my pda (treo 650) backup on this computer, which has not been available to me at least. I was able to copy the entire folder "palmOne" off the C drive on a laptop HD (had this idea on another post). Which is pretty good, or I buy the software?

Now, I have transferred this record "palmOne" in its entirety on my computer; He tries to guide me through a set - up. I am marked he would see it as 'new' and in fact replace/remove the information on my phone/pda I've tried so hard to protect. Any advice? Thank you much in advance.

You must install Palm Desktop. Download 4.1.4 from the download page of Palm or Treo 650 support page and follow the installation instructions.

If your data are underway on the Treo, it will transfer to the desktop on the first synchronization.

I backed up my system on an external hard drive to reinstall windows vista home. I was told that vista home edition is unable to restore files, then why allow them to be saved as. I really need to restore my files back. Please help me...

I have a Windows VIsta operating system that crashed this past year.  But just before losing, I used the center of restoration with the Windows backup utility to back up our files.  I supported it up to an external hard drive, Toshiba (E :).   I see the backup of my files on the external hard drive E: but when I go back to Windown backup and Restore Center to restore the files (even with the attached external hard drive) the restore program is not recognizing backup. I am trying to extract the files to my new hard drive.  Pls note that I didn't simply copied and past.  All files are compressed in a Formate of backup on the external drive.  Any suggestions?

    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer

    Hi Chris.Plucker,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum

I would like to ask you a few questions to better understand:

    (a) you try to open the file from Internet Explorer?

    (b) if so, have you tried with other browsers?

    (c) from which site did you download Windows 7?

    (d) what is the name of the file you want to download?

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the function returns. However, you may receive the error message, or you can experience the original behavior.

Follow the steps below to put your computer in a clean boot state:

Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    1. sign the computer by using an account with administrator rights.

    2. click on the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    3. on the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the Startup items load check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)

    4. on the Services tab, click to select the hide all Microsoft services check box, and then all disable.

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    5. click on OK, then restarting.

Check the link to learn more about the clean boot below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. click the Start button, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

2 in the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click on OK.

    3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

    Waiting to hear from you

    Thanks and greetings

Well data files/user of vista should work. Yes a NTFS format is good, go to run, or cmd, type:

diskmgmt.msc in msc, R.click on the material, delete the partition, create one, format. Use the default settings,

Once thru, L.click the disk, go to actions, all, select 'enable '.

The recovery partition is set by default to have very little free space_and has no negative effect on it or system. However, if you use it to back up files, it could fill to capacity. Do not use for backup. You can also check to see if the System Restore monitors the partition, if so, turn it off. Whatever you do, do not compress the partition. Doing so will serve as recovery to stop working.
