Turn down HDs in Raid LSI PowerEdge

As a server, I got a Power Edge 840 with a Raid at LSI SAS controller on a SAS backplane with 3 Seagate Cheetah 15K.5. There are debian running on a Raid 5.  The HDs spin down and even with megacli, I could not convince them to do so. The server of the idling consumes 110W@1,6ghz, which is high. Any ideas?

Hello Stefan,

The controllers LSI with the PE840-supported were the SAS 5iR and PERC 5 / i. None of these spin down supported, which was not available until the H700/H800 in 2009. If you have a different controller LSI (not necessarily one a Dell brand) let me know what model and I might be able to help the conclusion of the procedure documentation to set up a physical drive individual spin-down.

    Hello

Have you noticed this disconnection using the laptop battery power or also during its connected to the power adapter mode?

In case this happens only in battery power mode, it would be possible as the system powers OFF the WLan to save power.
In this case, I recommend two verification options:

    1) go to Device Manager-> card WLan-> properties-> tab power management
Check here if the option to shut down unit is not checked.

    (2) Variant 2 should be checked in the Windows power management. Here, you can set the WLan card option to the performance.

By the way: according to the specifications of the laptop the laptop is equipped with Intel card Wireless - N 7260 WLan that supports the 802.11 b/g/n standard.

Here is a page of the driver Intel where you can download the latest driver Intel Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    [Drivers Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 | https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+ Networking & ProductLine = Intel % C2% AE + Wi - Fi + products & ProductProduct = Intel % C2% AE + double + band + Wireless - N + 7260 & ProdId = 3716 W & LineId = 1784 & FamilyId = 1783]

  • Display brightness turned down to Tecra 8100

    Hello:

I bought a Toshiba Tecra 8100 used - after two months without problem the monitor suddenly turned down the
brightness - in the beginning the turn-down was little, now, it's quite often.

I tried already several things: first of all I thought it was because of the battery... but after the purchase of a new problem was still there. Sometimes after freezing
several times by closing or simply by pressing the gel
button, it works very well. So far, I can't find a source of
the problem (also changed the parameters of power... is not serious)... so I'm completely at the end of my nerves - in addition to this small, but very serious problem, I'm still very pleased with this end computer.

Hoping to find help in the forum.

    Best regards, Bjoern

I too am in the same situation, but I just wanted to clarify the problem. The machine starts very well, but sometimes the backlight fails completely. It's pretty sporadic, although invariably reboot fixes the problem (temporarily). Is it a software or a hardware problem?

    Thank you, David

  • UCS C22 M3 software RAID LSI problem with hard drive

    Hello

I post here because I searched many hours for a stupid problem.

I have a Cisco UCS C22 M3 with soft RAID LSI MagicRAID.
I have two hard disk of 1 TB.
I create a RAID array with the type 1 (mirror).

When I run the installation of VMware ESXi 5.1 U1 I see the RAID array, but the two discs.
I think that it is a driver problem.
So, I install special with an iso VMware in the VMware Web site for Cisco server.
I have test with ESXi 5.0 and 5.1, and 5.1 U1 but it's the same problem.

I try to remove the RAID array and to install esx on disc one monkey. Installation works well, but in the boot menu, I can't boot from a hard disk. I don't know why I search with UEFI and she is disabled.

I test with windows 2012, and 2008R2 to check if its working but in install I don't see also hard drive or the RAID array.
I go to Cisco and download the driver of the 2G for VMware Linux and Windows.
I try inserting the driver in windows install, but does not.
I think that the driver for a hardware RAID card and software.

I have try to disable the LSI RAID in the advanced bios "SouthBridge". After I disabled I don't know how I can do to start on the hard drive.
When I go to the start menu (F6) I see absolutely nothing in drive.

I test this on two Cisco server.

I can't know what I can do now. I take a working installation tomorrow and nothing.

I join you a photo of the boot sequence LSI.

    Thank you very much.

    Stephane,

For what I understand, you use the RAID controller integrated, therefore, these drivers will not work you:

    -LSI 92xx

    -LSI 106xE

    -LSI 2008 M

    -INS 3081E-R

    -LSI8708EM2

    -LSI 9201< all="" of="" the="" above="" are="" not="" the="" controller="" you="">

    -CISO 1225 x< this="" is="" for="" the="" vic="">

    -CISCO P81E< this="" is="" for="" the="" 1st="" generation="" of="" vic="" cards,="" so="" definitely="" not="" a="" raid="">

Pilots are organized into top level by operating system folders, and each folder of OS has a structured series hierarchically who become more specific subfolders so that you can find the exact drivers you need. When you navigate to a folder containing the drivers, it will contain also one or several README files that explains what are these drivers in particular.

Here is an example of the structure of folder for Windows:

Windows    ChipSet       vendor          blade-model-number             OS-version-number                All                ia64                Lang (contains language subfolders)                Vista                x64

    You need to look for: /< OS > / storage/Intel/C600 /.< if="" you="" are ="" doing="" the="" installation="" of="" the="" os="" through="" the="" kvm,="" you="" first="" need="" to="" un-mount="" the="" os="" .iso="" image="" to="" mount="" the="" drivers,="" once="" the="" drivers="" are="" done,="" un-mount="" the="" drivers="" and="" mount="" again="" the="" os="" .iso="">

If it does not, you better open a TAC case that will allow us to put in place an additional troubleshooting Webex meeting.

  • Model of card mother T7500 and configuration of the controller RAID LSI 1068e

Hi, I just bought a T7500 workstation I would get around mid-December. Because of current prices for HARD drive storage, I decided to go with the 500 GB basic disk up to HEALING of Thailand. Thus, I am limited to basic integrated RAID controller. Because I am not familiar with the RAID configuration, etc. I wanted to read more before I dive in. The starting point would definitely find what was right for the Precision T7500 motherboard. Surprise! I can't find information anywhere. Even Dell people (3 different sales and support representatives) have not managed to tell me it's the Intel 5520 chipset (it looks that they believe that it is the motherboard model...). Well, I'm stuck. I would appreciate if someone could provide me with the model of motherboard and Special Edition, all information on the capabilities of the controller integrated RAID (LSI 1068e) would help me determine what drives should I plan to buy. In addition, one thing that is not clear to me what I inferred from the configuration on the website Wizard is the issue around disks > 2 TB. Of after I read it, I was not able to determine whether the problem was related to the simple readers > 2 TB or if it was related to the management of a storage space > 2 TB (which could be composed of several readers less than 2 TB). What I have in mind (remember that I do not have the machine right now) is to 4 X 1 TB drives in a RAID 0 + 1 (which I'm not sure that the integrated controller supports) configuration that will result in the storage of 2 GB mirrored. The operating system is Win 7 64 bit. Thanks in advance for any info that will help me to prepare my setup (buy hard drives, if I can find cheap ones) and find information on the configuration of the RAID. MrBricole

I'm sure the T7500 uses an Intel Server Board (since this chipset is located on the Intel site under its motherboards, Dell is essentially correct, even if they didn't know why), but it doesn't matter in the context of your question, because the '' integrated '' RAID controller is not actually on the Board.  It's a card (called "integrated" only because it has a slot on this machine).  Because the functionality of the RAID controller is not on the Board of Directors, Board info will not help you.  Everything you need to know about your Council and the entire system, you can get the T7500 manual.  SAS 6/iR (LSI 1068e) RAID controller information can be found here:

NOTE from the ADMIN: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell >

The SAS 6/iR will not support more than 2 TB of drives, or it will support more than 2 TB of virtual disks.

It will also only supports RAID 0 OR RAID 1 OR both, but not together (not levels no RAID nested as RAID 10 or 0 + 1).

So with four 1 TB drives, you can easily do two RAID 1 (called integrated mirror in the controller BIOS CTRL-C)... or you can do two 2-drive RAID 0 (Stripe called integrated in the controller BIOS CTRL-C)... or you can run mode non-RAID, with four individual discs in the operating system.  With this controller, those are your only options with four 1 TB drives.

If you want / need more features RAID (nested RAID, 2 TB of the VFD above, on board levels, cache, etc.), you must upgrade to the PERC 6 / i.

Do not buy office records class... Make sure you get enterprise-class drives.  If you decide at some point to go with PERC, not only enterprise class disks will be fundamentally necessary, but certified records would be strongly recommended for stability and performance.

  • raid LSI 2308 controller question

    Hi experts

Someone with experience with the raid LSI 2308 controller? When I look at my card storage in ESX5.5.2 I see. But when I look through cli it says no map found:

I need to load the firmware first to make it work? Like this guy mentioned here? http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2014/04/08/updating-LSI-firmware-ESXi-commandline/

I had three SSD that is not at all recognized by ESX and I'm trying to see if the LSI is perhaps what is needed to make it work.

    Thank you

  • Change a failing drive - RAID Dell Poweredge H310 - RAID 1

    Hi guys,.

Thank you for everything that support you in these forums. I'm new here.

We have a Dell PowerEdge T320 server on my new place of work. It is Dell Poweredge H310 RAID controller on it. It is configured in RAID-1, with 2 discs.

Now my question is: in the event that one of the drives breaks down:

1 - I should insert the new drive into the slot where the failed disk has been inserted, or in the following location?

2 - will be the new drive automatically "copied" with the healthy disk data or it will need some work?

I read the manual and chapter 'Replacement year Online physical disk', says the following, but I don't know the answer to these questions:

    1. in the management of virtual disks window, select Virtual Disk # and press the arrow key down until the physical disks is highlighted.

    2. press arrow right key to expand the list of physical disks that are members of the virtual disk.

    3. press the down arrow and select the desired physical disk that you want to replace. Press to view the list of operations permitted on the disc.

    4. Select Replace and then start.

    5. tap on the down arrow to select a replacement disk and then press the SPACEBAR to select the disk.

    6. click OK to start the replacement.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Kind regards.

    Videoclocknet,

You must remove the failed disk and replace it with another similar drive on the same niche. When you choose the following location, be sure to follow the steps in the virtual disk management screen (VD) as you have indicated.

The failed drive will be replaced and the replacement drive will be one on the following location. Either way is perfectly fine. You can then monitor status of the VD and the reconstruction process using OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA).

2 disks configured in RAID 1 act as a reflection of the other. Failure of 1 drive ensures that the same data are available on the other. When you replace the failed disk, the rebuilding process begins, and the same data gets automatically copied.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • 850 - 009na M1Z34EA #ABU: CPU fan for the 850-009na feel like Phoenix does not turn down after the power - on self test unless the BIOS is entered

    Hello

I have posted responses to other posts on this topic, but thought I'd start a new thread to gather my conclusions. I'm sorry for a trial

This PC is virtually brand new (only a few weeks now) and otherwise perform exceptionally.

Basically, if the machine is disconnected from the power grid (i.e. the power is off at the plug or the power cord removed), when the machine is supplied then the CPU fan turns over 2000 rpm and stays there. All the other PC that I do this too, but the fan will slow down after turning upward. I know that this is done as part of the POST to check that the fan is running.

If I go into any installation of seed, start-up or BIOS for example (i.e. by pressing ESC or F10 etc.), the fan will slow down immediately up to 700 rpm. It will stay like that until the next time the machine is started against the cold. If I shut down the PC - watch or stop - but do not cut the power supply, then the next time the machine is started, the fan is still about 700 rpm. It is not to turn up to 2 k + RPM when lit.

As soon as I unplug, then the next time the PC boots, it will turn to the top and I have to repeat steps - off, boot, enter the BIOS, exit and continue. It is something to do with the cold start.

Note that I don't have to do anything in the start menu - I for example go to the BIOS settings, exit without saving the changes, and the fan will still slow. It's going in the boot sector that slows down the fan.

When the PC started out-of-the-box, I opted for the upgrade to Windows 10 during installation. I have read in various places that people had experienced after the upgrade, so I reset the machine to factory settings (Win 8.1) and have not upgraded, but the problem persisted. However convinces me that Windows 10 has been removed completely, as when I went to restore the backup image (i.e. dating back to what I had before the factory reset) there are references to 10 Windows (for example, it says 'Continue to Windows 10' as well as various food options). I do not understand UEFI so I don't know if that was involved.

I tried to change the power plan options "Processor power management-> cooling system strategy" on the liabilities side, but no joy there.

I think that the fan and sensors work, based on the findings below. These readings of temp and fan are taken from AIDA64

After starting cold (current was cut, without entering the BIOS), machine runs dry without load

Exactly the same thing--starting in cold, but go in the BIOS, do nothing and continue. Once again, no load

This is after power off and resarting, but to let the PC network

After the above, I used Prime95 to put the CPU support (use of 95-100%), and after an hour, the readings are:

Note that even so, the fan was not particularly strong, but it's at 2222 rpm as in the first reading.

If I play at 4K (the whole point of the PC ) the CPU so far got very warm, the GPU is but his fan turns up as planned.

In conclusion, it seems that the POST has a problem because it does not slow down the fan after the test.

I can live with let the machine always plugged into the sector (for example, most of the time) and I guess that's what most people do, but I would like to know what the problem is (for example if it's really something 10 Windows, or a bug in the BIOS/UEFI)

    Thank you very much!

    John

Explain you a lot of people who maybe have returned their system immediately because of this? Others might judge normal sound. Not irritable average is not coming here to complain. Others might judge her so little. They simply don't like. You will never convince me that is not a BIOS problem. As the problem resolves itself when you enter manually each time. It can be reproduced every time.

  • RAID on PowerEdge T410, restarting

When I performed a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 on our PowerEdge T410, with two 1 TB drives attached as players 0 and 1 on the PERC controller, I didn't know that I needed to configure a RAID volume on the controller on the front side, before loading the operating system.  So I need to start over.  Not much, except that, since we do not have a tape drive, it was a chore to backup all data before the first installation files.  Question: Before the installation of a second, what if I were to add a third hard drive (I have a 250 GB), assign the drive letter 'F', create an NTFS partition and copy all my files of data on it? Then, on the second go-around, I configure the PERC and put up my desired RAID 1 array using the two 1 TB drives. Of course, the discs will be completely erased.  Subsequently, once finished the installation of the OS, the OS will recognize my third hard drive (250 GB), such that I can simply copy the files from it on my mirror RAID?

The answer is 'yes '. The long answer includes things like "make sure that you do not select the wrong drive to install to ' and ' after having installed and copied the data above and remove the 'extra' / 'standalone' disc, Windows peut not boot, so you will need to do a startup repair.
