  • black clock and found Web site, waiting for response

I am a tech support consultant, have more than 30 years in the it industry and this is the first problem, I was not able to solve, eventually. I have a sound system, I'm sure that it is clean but still encounter a problem that is often discussed on the net but never resolved tne.

Version of Vista-home.  If I'm connected wireless or wired, browsers stop working.  It works sometimes for hours before failure and other times, as soon as I switch on / log.  Internet connection information indicates everything is OK, but the little black clock on the status bar of the IE browser appear with the text "site found, waiting for response.  The only solution is to reboot - and you never know how long that will last either.

One thing I've discovered recently: I started using FireFox... and it crashes saying simply 'arrested' on the status bar.  I can close Firefox, switch to IE and continue browsing for awhile until he gets the black clock and the site found, waiting for response.

I have NO IDEA what section to post this in... the only thing I have not tweaked in my Vista system is the "running, stopped or other Services.

Dell XPS m1330 is based on what I saw in other forums, that has nothing to do with it.  Help, please!

  • Portege R400: Very slow Performance with Vista Ultimate

    Hi all

Portege R400 is delivered with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition and Vista is really - honestly - incredibly slow! (especially with R400, due to the configuration of the laptop)
So I decided to install Windows XP Tablet PC... But I discovered that there is no driver available for R400 XP.

I'm not directly complaining on the Portege models/series...
It's a great design and I bought it, knowing the configuration. But I didn't know how Vista was eager for system resources...

I complain on Toshiba policy or what-so-ever ONLY to the Vista and not XP drivers.
Microsoft is desperately trying to sell Vista because they know, they really don't have this time and I heard stories about how they block their own market XP.

.. .and I think that Microsoft and Toshiba can have an agreement on "selling only computers laptop Vista..." (just a guess but it seems so... correct me if I'm wrong)

It is a torture to use Vista on Portege R400 and other equivalent configurations. (even when all the Visual effects system, disabled etc.)
On the other hand, I can't use my XP on R400 tablet... so...

So, trust me when I say I'm going to throw it away!
But before doing this, if anyone of you knows a solution to my problem. Please let me know,
because I paid a lot of money for this turtle.

    concerning

PS: I hope that this is a democratic platform and my post not be erased or changed.

    Hello

First of all, you don't have to suspect Microsoft or Toshiba has an agreement with Vista. Toshiba isn't the only primary selling units with just a VIsta operating system, almost every laptop to the manufacturer it.
And you're right, Vista is a slow operating system, because it has a new UI with lots of graphic effects here and there and many features like the sidebar, you have really not at all.

Since I bought my first one Vista laptop at the beginning of the year, I thought, as I don't want to not be installed and want my XP back and so on and there was no available to manufacturers of XP drivers download page either. I have a Toshiba laptop no and had the same frustration as you.

Now, I had two options, check every important feature on my own via google or using tools such as engineering pilot or pimp my Vista driver installation.
Firstly I did an installation of XP, all drivers to research, I need, who did not take my as much as I thought it would be. But after a while, I wanted to give the new Microsoft OS a chance.

Used disk recovery and first wiped all the software I didn't need, so goodbye almost every tool installed on my machine, which was not unique to microsoft.
Disabled many features, that I didn't want and I can say, speed increased a lot! This brought my buy an original version of Vista, made a new installation, installed all the drivers necessary, and hey, I'm happy with it.

Thus, ended with my story, you have two options now. Search XP drivers on your own, using the tools and google or tweak your Vista. There are many guides on the internet that can help you.

And do not be angry with Toshiba, as it's the same problem with other manufacturers too, as you can see in my case.

  • Strange sign in records of Vista SP1

    Dear friends

I use Vista + SP1 and so far, everything seems to be ok, but I noticed something strange when I open windows Explorer

In some cases, not in all, like
I get error >, as should be blocked for some reason, in the only case not from the start.

I mean when I installed Vista, but after a while of use.
I susspect that needs some tweaking somewhere, but I don't know where. If anyone can help.

    Thanks in advance

No, it's just a behavior normal Vista due to its new system of files of semi or better how it handles some folders and files.

Title information for you, this file carries the symbol of shortcut to this topic, I think you meant this?
And it's because of Vista file and folder linking or what should I call it now.

So, relax, everything is good with the world ;)

  • Vista: Cannot take more. Satellite A105

A year ago, I had an A105 with Vista Home. I put 2 GB of memory on it (it's 1.66 MHZ). I just got SP1 on it. So I gave it a fair chance, but just no longer tolerate Vista. It is slow, slow and really unpleasant to use. I've tweaked quite strongly, but I can't use it effectively for almost 5 minutes after turning the power on. In addition, there are constant hard disk activity, even though I disabled indexing and other stuff. I guess I could keep looking for the magic tweak, but I'm just thinking this time using "downgrade" to xp pro. I have a CD to install XP Pro extra under license.

So the question is, how much a bungathon it would be? I've read several discussions elsewhere on how to do it. Above all, it boils down to find the correct drivers. Everyone of here and have advice or a link to all the drivers for that computer in the configuration of xp? Useful tips, especially after installing XP - it's adding drivers part I'm worried? Installation of XP would have most of the drivers anyway?

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thank you very much!

    George

    Hello

Downgrade to XP is always an option for the customer and toshiba taken in charge by the drivers for devices. But sometimes, as these computers are designed to run under windows vista it's sometimes to go the hardware manufacturer and download the driver directly. Please let me know the exact model of your laptop so that I can check if all the drivers are available...

    See you soon!

  • Improve the performance of the Satellite L300 graphics software and games-Vista

After the first post on how I was disappointed with Toshiba L300, I found a solution for his performance on the use of software such as Photoshop, Corel and games like Warcraft III, NFS Pro Street, Titan Quest, Devil May Cry and so on. This tweak was found on another forum and was modded with the new driver of Intel and Toshiba L300.

I would like to share with you all so that you can be happier with your product. This can be applied to other * X 3100 * computers:

    * Steps: *.

    1. download the latest driver from Intel (at the moment it is 15, 9 - 7.14.10.1472 at the link: [http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2800&OS FullName = Windows Vista + * + 32 & lang = eng & strOSs = 164 & sub mit = GB 21%])

2 extract the file somewhere on your hard drive.

3 install the driver manually from the Device Manager (we can not update automatically as there are problems between the pilot back to Toshiba and this)

4 Download this registry key to link: [http://www.mediafire.com/?4cejjqbmlm5] on your hard drive

    5. open this file with * Notepad *.

    6. research * game1.exe*

    7. you will see 4 lines, that I created. Replace the two * game1.exe* by the name of the Executive program, you want to give
-For example: I want to improve performance for WarcraftIII, replace * game1.exe* by * warcraftIII.exe*

    8. add more software that require high graphics performance by adding a line more with * "_software.exe" = dword:00000001 * and * "~software.exe"=dword:00000001*

    9. save the file and apply the registry key by double-clicking on it. (Right of the administrator is required)

9 turn on the software, and you will see that it will work better than before.

I na? don't know if this has been posted here or not but hope that it is useful for the x 3100 and Vista users

I'm happy to answer any questions. If you find the best methods, please share.

    Best wishes.

  • Cannot install Vista SP2; 'upgrade' disabled when I try and re - install by KB958044

    Hello

After three days of struggle with trying to get Vista Ultimate (purhcased at the United States) SP2 update, and several failures of various updates automatically downloaded from Windows Update: I finally found and read

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/VistaInstall/thread/09c291bf-3868-4DFA-8004-139ec8018aa1

MS response has been a link to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044

But when I try to follow the instructions in KB958044: 'upgrade' is disabled.

I don't really wish to throw three days work of re - install my programs, tweak the settings, etc.

Thank you, Bill Woodruff Bill Woodruff

    Hi Bill Woodruff.

Because the standalone SP2 package failed with the error: '0 x 80070490', you can try to run Checksur (KB947821) to address corruption in the manifest of component maintenance (EC) and try to install SP2 Standalone Package.

To run Checksur (KB947821) follow the mentioned below as follows:

    (1) download and run the system update by the following article preparation tool: KB947821. Description of the system update tool for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

    (2) put the computer in Cleanboot before installing the stand-alone Package of SP2:

To perform the cleanboot, refer to:

Click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue. On the general tab, click Selective startup, Selective Startup.Under, clear the check box load startup items. Click the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all. Click OK.

How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine if background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939671

    (3) try to install the stand-alone Package for Windows Vista SP2.

    (4) after Installation of SP2, put the computer in Normal mode:

Click Start and type msconfig in the box start the search. On the general tab, select "NORMAL STARTUP". Click on apply, then OK. When you are prompted, click on restart.

However if SP2 fails to install again, then you can have make a repair or Installation upgrade Inplace of Vista to install SP2 as mentioned in article KB958044 after uninstalling SP1.

During the Upgrade Installation process, you will get the options go online to get the latest updates for installation and do not receive updates for installation. If you choose the option to go online to get updates, then it tries to download updates for the installation process, the windows updates required for Installation, including driver updates and it won't include all the latest Service Packs for Windows Vista.

If you get an error "upgrade is disabled" when you try the Inplace upgrade, it may be due to a version of Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 installed, you can not upgrade by using media that does not Service Pack 1. If you have a drive without SP1 and SP1 is installed on the computer as an update, you need to maybe uninstall SP1 first and then start the Installation of upgrade or you can arrange a full disc with SP1 to make Installation of upgrade by using the product key came with your upgrade disc.

For more information, please visit the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951247

If you try to uninstall SP1 to upgrade Installation, you can follow the mentioned below as follows:

    1) click Start, type Appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then click Appwiz.cpl in the list programs.
    (2) If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    3) click View installed updates. Click service (KB936330) package you want to uninstall, and then click on uninstall.

For more information, please visit the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537

    Hope this information is useful.

Let me know if it worked.

  • Windows Vista Sidebar for XP

Microsoft, as I know, Sidebar available on codename Windows 6.0 or higher, but why is Vista Sidebar available, not only for Windows 6.0 code name, but for XP? Thank U!

    Hello

Microsoft provides the functionality of the Windows Sidebar in Windows Vista, this feature is not included in Windows XP.

However, you can download tweaks of third party or programs that enable Windows Sidebar, which resembles the Windows Vista Sidebar in Windows XP.

    Note:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • 2903 B Adaptec driver for Vista 64 bit

My scanner Epson Perfecton 1200 s uses an Adaptec 2903 B card, Vista could not load a driver automatically.

Epson says contact Adaptec, and Adaptec says that since it is an OEM card produced for Epson, they provide no support.

They said that the driver for other maps of the 290 x series that use the same chipset 'may' works, but they are only for 32-bit systems.   But they also say that the XP dirvers "can" work.

Unfortunately, mine is Vista 64 bit.

I hate you lose a very good scanner just because I had to upgrade to Vista.  It manages scanning upward

In fact, Gloria, I found a way to support Windows 7.

Someone posted a fix for the same problem under Vista.  Vista has a device (DJSVS) driver that can be changed by adding a line with the hardware for this card ID and it then works fine.

Although DJSVS is not included in Windows 7, a copy of it works fine here too.

A similar tweak was what was needed to get scanner driver works as well.

Certainly NOT for the faint of heart, though.

Do you know of any equivalent to DJSVS in Windows 7, which would allow users with no access to Vista do the same?

    Thank you

  • Start and stop problems under Vista

My PC has started taking much time to stop and start.  I didn't install something again and stopped all my programs auto starting but always start and stop takes forever. Can help in any...

    Hello

Make sure you have the services Superfetch and ReadyBoost are running and then try to speed up the boot with the help of my guide [1]. This causes the prefetcher in Windows Vista. This increase startup performance a lot. All other tweaking tools are useless. Use this method only with the Microsoft Toolkit.

If it is not to speed up the startup process, follow my guide [2] to start track and to compress theboot_BASE + CSWITCH + DRIVERS + POWER_1.etl as RAR or 7z, also make a trace of the judgment and compress theshutdown_BASE + CSWITCH + DRIVERS + POWER_1.etl too and download the 2 files zip on your Skydrive [3] and post the link here.

I take a look at the trace, maybe I see what's wrong with your Windows.

  • Wireless network local issue on Vista

I know that this has been done to death in all directions, but I can't come up with a solution, then...

I read dozens of messages and "fixed" the problem 'Unidentified network' and 'Access Local' on Vista, but have yet to solve.  Surely, there must be a definitive solution for this.  My situation is: laptop Toshiba L300 under Vista Home Premium SP1, working happily with our wireless ADSL router.  This laptop has an Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter.

For various reasons, we have upgraded to a new router and the Toshiba only will not connect wireless to it for full internet access - it shows the status of formidable 'access. ' Local only  The new router is a Linksys X 3000, which supports wireless/n, but it is configured for mixed mode.  Security is WPA2-Personal with AES encryption.

I tried this after reading the various "solutions":
    Upgrade Vista to SP2
Upgrade the Atheros wireless network card drivers to version 7.6.0.126, dated 19/05/2008
    Do a clean boot
Temporarily disable the security on the router
The use of TKIP instead of AES encryption
Tweaking the registry keys for the DHCP broadcast flag
Disable DHCP and affecting a fixed IP on the laptop
    Use the netsh commands
Configuration of the router wireless b/g only
Nothing changes the situation.  The laptop gets a valid IP address from the router via DHCP, so that becomes much less.  It will connect to 100% fine if I plug it into the router with a cable, so the problem is with the side of things wireless.  The router has no MAC address filtering active.

Surely, surely, there must be a definitive solution for this now - it has been around for years.  I can't believe it's so hard to identify what the problem actually is. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I solved this problem.  I've disabled the built-in Atheros wireless network card and acquired a USB one, and all this burst into life.  If it looks like the Atheros card and/or driver is the problem. Boring, I don't have day the Atheros driver for what I thought was the most recent version.

Anyway, as well as actually at work, the new USB adapter supports wireless/n, who can run faster, so it's all good.
  • Lack of drive DVD Vista - Oh, no it's not!

I failed to find a similar question already answered that fits my particular set of circumstances.

I just lost my CD/DVD on my Sony Vaio laptop equipped player of Vista 32 bit SP2.

It does not appear in Windows Explorer, but it appears in the device as Manager works correctly.  He also appears in the management of the computer as drive G, which is what it was before, and even the name of the volume of the CD that is loaded is displayed correctly.

It plays BluRay and movies on standard DVD and music CD discs in Media Player.  However, it does not seem to read data disks, (although the volume name is indicated in CM as I said) and is not available in Explorer.

I removed upper and lower filters in the registry, removed the drive and cleaned the contacts and uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers.

I have a feeling that if it were possible to establish why its drive letter does not appear in the Solution Explorer, then all problems would be solved.

    Any ideas please?

PS. I also realized that my two disks of built-in removable storage, E and F are missing in Explorer Windows even if they are reported as working properly in Device Manager and have their correct drive letters in computer management.  When I insert a memory card in one of them, the management of the computer recognizes his presence.  My readers HD (C and D) work fine in Explorer.  Oh, and autoplay (or autorun) no longer works when I insert a CD or a memory card.

(When I talk about the drive letter, I mean that the disk is missing, not only the letter).

I HAVE IT SOLVED!  (And it was simple - it's not always the way?)

I have Tweak VI installed, and for some reason any he had deselected the three discs that I had lost.  I don't know how it happened but when I ran earlier, I found that in the utility 'Hide the Explorer disk drives', only hard drives have been checked and all other checkboxes disc were empty.  I checked those I've been away, restarted the computer and they were there.  Same AutoPlay works fine now.

I hope it's useful to someone else with the same problem.

  • Problem re-installing VISTA after the removal of Windows 8 Preview Release, all I get is a black screen with a message "Not found operating system"

I recently tried Win 8 on my VAIO laptop spare parts on which I ran Vista, after having previously deleted all the files and documents (I don't use often the laptop). Having concluded that Win8 will really work correctly with a touch screen (and the display size was bad as well), I uninstalled WIN 8, understand that I have to re - install Vista from my rescue disks. This I tried successfully a few months previously to make a clean reinstall. However, after removing 8 WIN via the Control Panel, I can't re - install Vista now. All I get is a black screen with a message "The operating system not found" and the rescue disks do not register. What can I do? I like Vista (although I now run Win 7 on my PC) and really want to put it back. Grateful for the advice.

Well I finally fixed it by tweaking the BOOT BIOS settings and find something along the lines of VAIO Setup. I'm afraid, I just don't remember exactly what I did, but suddenly I found and ran 'VAIO Hardware Diagnostics' gave me a heart when it announced "no error was detected on the Vaio. Then I saw there was an entry for 'VAIO Recovery Utility - Recovery Wizard' and everything started to load. Since the 2 recovery discs I had. Finally, I ran MS Office and Small Business CD-ROM and now everything is back the way that it used to be. Here I had taken more note of how I got to the well Recovery Wizard. I hope that I never have to do it again!
