Two databases on a single server - CPU allocation

Is there a way of CPU resources between two databases in the same way that the resource groups can allocate resources within each database? Let's say split 60-40 between databases cpu?

The answer is no. I think, it seems that you encounter a performance problem, and you try to solve it using process priorities. Am I wrong? Or I'm going to upgrade my crystal ball?

If you were never able to do such thing, the first thing that comes to mind,... what you define as "the database" here, you do not have something you can touch and say "it's the database", the concept of database is a logical, not a physical concept, it is composed of memory, processes and files , and the main activity has to do with e/s where most of the time the problem of startup performance. even if you were able to abstract the logical concept of the DB in a single physical component, allocating CPU him would not be enough to solve performance problems.

I strongly suggest to detail why you want to do this assignment and then we can discuss alternatives from there on.

  • Two-way replication in two databases in a single server

    I have two instances of installation OGG, one for each database. Let's say that they are respectively OGG1 and OGG2 for DB1 and DB2. Ogg1 has two extracts and OGG2 has 1 replicat for replication of the first. It works well independently.  OGG2 has two excerpts and OGG1 1 replicat for replication of the second, which is for the direction of backword. It also works well independently. As I got to know previously, this is how I do two-way replication, by running these two processes together. I did it.

    But when I did, it gives me the desired result. What currently happening given cannot be changed in one of the databases. When the data changes, it shows the change. but when committed, itself data is modified in its original values. What's the harm? Two processes works well independently.

    ORASCN Hi Vicky, you were the subject of this question with me. It's good if you can have a look.

    Yes, that was the problem. I added "TranLogOptions ExcludeUser ogguser" the main excerpt from two replications. ogguser is my user goldengate.

    Extract einta1q

    SETENV (ORACLE_SID = "dd")

    UserIdAlias ogg_user

    TranlogOptions IntegratedParams (max_sga_size 256)

    TranLogOptions ExcludeUser ogguser

    Exttrail ./dirdat/ip

    LOGALLSUPCOLS

    UPDATERECORDFORMAT COMPACT

    Table SC2.*;

    Now looping does not occur. Replication is as expected. Thank you.

  • Install Oracle GoldenGate Linux to synchronize two schemas from database on a single server

    Hi all

    I have to synchronize two schemas from database (Oracle 12 c) in a single host RedHat Linux to demonstrate and understand the use of OGG V12.1.2.1.0. I try to do. But it's complicated and confused me because I am new to Oracle and Linux. I followed this tutorial ( install Oracle GoldenGate for Oracle 12.1.2 on CentOS/6.x to 6.x/RHEL Linux 6.x EL ). But it is difficult to understand how I can match with two diagrams of database on a single server.

    And I found this tutorial (Oracle GoldenGate on Linux: two-way replication of Oracle 11 GR 2 to Oracle 11 g 2). He said: "" If you have that one host, it may be useful to change the /etc/hosts file to create aliases forhost01.example.com and host02.example.com.". What it really means?

    The other seems to be useful. But it's totally different from 1. Is that this will help my job since I use 12 c Oracle Server?

    Can I get some tips to continue my task?

    Here's another tutorial - http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/goldengate/12c/OGG12c_Integrated_Replicat/index.html

    It has everything set up on a single Linux host.

  • How to connect two databases to a single listener

    Hello

    How to connect two databases to a listener.is it is possible or not

    Hello

    Yes, you can record a single listener to respond to several databases. There are several ways to do it and the best way that I would suggest for you is the use of "Network Setup Wizard" or "netca", which is a graphical interface that allows you to meet your requirement. Otherwise, you can hardcode in your listener.ora file located in the 'ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora '.

    Example is as follows

    Listener.ora

    SCREW =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = lab01) (PORT = 1521))
    )
    )

    SID_LIST_VIS =
    (SID_LIST =
    -1 database configuration
    *(SID_DESC =*)
    * (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1)*
    * (SID_NAME = DB1) *.
    *)*
    -Database Setup 2
    *(SID_DESC =*)
    * (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1)*
    * (SID_NAME = DB2). *
    *)*
    )

    Then restart your listener.

    the default behavior for OEM is that it supports a single database for each host
    If you need to support multiple DBs, use Grid Control.

  • How performance measurement/reference of a new database on the new server?

    Hello

    I have two servers oracle with following (same) details:

    5.8 64-bit RHEL

    Oracle 10 g 2-10.2.0.5.8

    ASM 10 gr 2-10.2.0.5.8

    Server A: 32 GB of RAM, 8 processors @ 3 .00GHz

    Server b: 128 GB RAM, vCPUs 16 cores

    A server (physical server) already has a database of A. ServerB (VMware - Yes, my client moves all Oracle on VMware servers for some reason any) is a new installation and the new database B with exact same init params as A databas. I expdp data from database A and impdp in database B.

    According to the material, the material is better than the old server B. I made a very simple test to check if the new DB performs better than the one on the physical server. Here are the results:

    I ran a simple query to create a new table. The original table (say, table_a) contains 1.7 million lines and the size is 2.2 GB.

    create table test1

    as

    s elect * from table_a;

    It took 3:28mins on database B, it took 1:55mins only on A database. So, it seems that the new database B scene poor (apparently). Then I looked at the plan of the explain command (don't know if it means a lot, because it s a very simple query) and here's these two databases:

    A (physical server databases

    Plan
    SELECT STATEMENT ALL_ROWS
    Cost: 14 052 bytes: 2,161,302,003 cardinality: 16,250,391
    1 FULL TABLE ACCESS TABLE table_a
    Cost: 14 052 bytes: 2,161,302,003 cardinality: 16,250,391

    Database B (virtual server)

    Plan
    SELECT STATEMENT ALL_ROWS
    Cost: 59 844 bytes: 2,161,302,003 cardinality: 16,250,391
    1 FULL TABLE ACCESS TABLE table_a

    Cost: 59 844 bytes: 2,161,302,003 cardinality: 16,250,391

    Issues related to the:

    1. Why is the cost different? Should I "calculate statistics" on the B (virtual server) database?

    2. how to pursue the investigation and discover the reason for the difference in time?

    3. what other test can I run to make sure that I have the right database Setup?

    Don't know if it of just enough info - if not, please let me know what else I need to provide.

    The team I perform hands on this server refuses to accept it by saying that it is slower than the existing one.

    Please advise!

    Best regards

    Looks like you'd get only a few percentages of increase in performance by increasing the pga, while the downturn is probably elsewhere.  Follow Nikolay, Ed and John suggestions.  STATSPACK or AWR can also give clues to e/s, although it would be a mistake to expect them to reflect the performance of the production - but they might highlight if you have problems logwriter or something.    Don't know if I even have to mention My ISP4400: numbers of ORION

  • Recommendation req - how two database with the same name can exist on a single server

    Description of the problem: I have a database named 'aaa' (9i db) in production and we need a copy of it to create 'aaa' in the same server with the same name, but an 11g database.

    9i 'aaa' is an exixting database in an AIX 5.3 Server.
    You will need to create a copy of this database 11 g named 'aaa' on the same server. I use the utility exp and imp db, but not sure how far it is recommended to have the same db names in a single server. Not sure about listener etc. problems.

    Any suggestions on this would be appreciated!

    Create this database for a specific application, test and cut classes to prod.

    The goal is admirable.
    The proposed plan makes me shudder.
    V11.2 must be installed on system new/other, IMO; to reduce the risk of wrong operation on the basis of incorrect data.

    When you use the dbca command, it creates a new database. So is it possible to have multiple databases at the same time running on the same server?

    I tried this option where I had created 2 databases A and B both running.

    He kept to launch ' ORA-12520: TNS:listener could not find a Manager is available for the type of requested server "intermittently. I have not found any useful document to solve this because of which I ended up recreate all objects in database B to the database A. Data Base A therefore has its own schemas and schemas from database B.

    Below are examples of files tnsnames.ora and listener.ora, sqlnet.ora trying this option:

    sample tnsnames.ora file.

    A =.

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = abc.com) (PORT = 1521))

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = A)

    )

    )

    B =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = abc.com) (PORT = 1521))

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = B)

    )

    )

    Listener.ora, example:

    LISTENER =

    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = abc.com) (PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = CIP)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))

    )

    )

    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = C:\OracleDatabase

    SQL Net.ora:

    NAMES. DIRECTORY_PATH = (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)

    ADR_BASE = C:\OracleDatabase

    Lsnrctl status showed services for each database.

    All the world is facing this problem? Can we have multiple databases on a server with a listener running on the same computer? So my Tnsnames.ora file would have 2 strings of connections and file listener with an entry of the listener.

    Can you please share your tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files?

    Also, how to create a single database with multiple instances on the same server? Please tell me about the document that contains an example of this.

    Yes, you can have several databases (running different ORACLE_SIDs) the ORACLE_HOME even on a single server.

    I suspect that the ORA-12520 error was the result of certain constraints of resources (cpu, memory or i/o) resulting in the inability to create a new database session.

    There are a lot of settings Oracle automatically design based on the number of CPUs.
    In my case, this number is too high.

    For example, normally db_cache_size = 4 MB * cpu, in this case the result is 1 G of db_cache_size.

    The plan is to create several databases on this car, so the question is:

    Is there a way to design or to tell oracle a different number of cpu?
    and in general...
    You have some tips on how it is possible to configure a machine so powerful that runs a large number of instances?

    Thanks in advance

    Published by: Spugna on May 7, 2012 03:01

    Hi Spugna,

    Of course, as long as you use Oracle 11 g you can use Instance Caging to limit each database, the CPU usage. Although it is no longer applicable to the single server database or a CCR node I see no reason why not to use with RAC. Look here for more information:
    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E14072_01/server.112/e10595/dbrm007.htm

    You could also consider the consolidation of these different in a large database of databases if it is possible and there is no dependence application?

    Should I two portal on each server, or a Portal Server who sit together with a probe?

    If you need a Portal Server, should I two database or a database to store parameters of monitor?

    In a situation where you have more than one collector/probe, it is advisable to have a portal that consolidated reports for Foglight.  The portal also provides a single interface for configuration.  This is particularly important if you have the same application or a site monitored by the collector/probes.

  • ESXi 5.1 - Exchange 2007 - file Page memory and CPU allocation

    I'm currently migrating a class Cluster CSC Exchange 2007 running on vmware on windows 2008, 2003.  It is also a SCC Cluster.  I followed all of the vmware and MS best practices, but not sure of one thing IM is the size of memory and CPU allocation page/swap file.  I have 5 Esxi hosts and each is running only Exchange 2007 comments according to vmware and MS recommendations when you use the Clustering of CSC.

    Each host has 2 CPUs to 6 cores per processor and 48 gb of Ram and that each host will have only a guest, would like to send it to the guest.  I read somewhere that it is recommended this page exchange 2007 memory size + 10 mb file.  Do I really need to get the page to the size of the file?  250 GB of disk space is a lot for swap files! IM also not sure what to set the allocation processor too.  If someone can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

    Thank you

    Dave

    Hi dlargeit,

    First of all, off - welcome to the VMTN forums!

    I'm with Josh26 I've ever seen any recommendations indicating that when a CCS cluster virtualization virtual machine by host is taken in charge. It is recommended to keep only a single node SCC by host (which is true for all virtual clusters or technologies like Exchange CSC/CCR/DAG), but there is nothing specific regarding the keep only a single virtual machine by host.

    On the file page, you are actually right on that.  For Exchange 2007, the paging file must be on the amount of memory configured as well as 10 MB to account for overhead costs of the kernel.  It is recommended by Microsoft and it is planned to provide enough space page Exchange should exchange more provide the necessary overhead if meet you a server failure and need to create a complete memory dump.

    You can find this recommendation here: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/aa996719 (EXCHG.80) .aspx

    In terms of CPU allocation, which should really be made according to your individual needs rather than just give all the resources the VM on the ESXi host.  Microsoft lists the maximum recommended for processor resources (Planning Processor Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) and it says that 12 hearts is the maximum for mailbox or Hub Transport box.  Is your really big enough environment need a lot of CPU resources?  Why not start small and increase it if necessary?

    You are in control of your own destiny in some of these configurations.  If you know the recommended page file size is 10 MB of RAM +, do not give the server more RAM is really needed, or you will have to pay for it in the consumed disk space to host the pagefile.  See the guide to memory resources (Planning Memory Configurations: Exchange 2007 help) to understand the maximum rates of memory for Exchange.  You will see that the maximum memory is 32GB, so there are very few reasons to assign all 48GB of RAM on your server, if it can even use.

    In short, the size of the server based on the real needs and I am confident, that you will have a virtualized Exchange system that performs as well as physical.

    If you want to keep things separate, there is no problem having a total of four distinct GoldenGate facilities, each with its own process manager. (this is the direction I would take)

    The footprint of the installation is not that big, more:

    s ' there is a problem between 1 and 3, 2 and 4 will not suffer (and vice versa)
    -If you need to upgrade a pair of databases, the other two will not be affected
    -You can have different political purge between 1/2 and 3/4
