How to share a folder of Win 7 with a XP user

I'm trying to share a folder of Windows 7 on my network group to a Win XP computer user.  In Win 7, I chose a homegroup of the 'work' with the same network as the computer Win XP name.  I would like to only a specific XP user in order to access a password protected sharing folders Win 7.  When I right click on the folder, click on 'Sharing' and click 'Advanced sharing,' and click 'Share this folder' and click on 'Permissions' and click on 'Add', and I try to enter the user name XP networking "Enter the names of the objects to select", he always says that the object 'name is not found."  When I ping the XP network computer, he says.  How can I share files safely on a semi unreliable network to a XP computer?

Thanks for your help.  You reminded me about an option for XP that I didn't need to use some time.  I finally understood how network with Win 7 there is only an hour!  I was able to add a user to the permissions area by adding an account to my Windows 7 computer and then use it to log into the network folder in XP.  For files requiring an admin, I had to add the user account created to have rights to the folder.  Windows 7 dialog boxes and the features are slightly more complicated than XP.

Thank you once again, this case is closed for the moment.

Thank you

Erik

Like Steve, I use the second copy. I also use SyncToy or Rich Copy depending on the situation. You can also check the Win 7 Sync Center facilities. All of these solutions offer simple point and click ease you want, but are worth a glance, I think.

  • How to share a folder in a working group for some PC

    Hello
I have a working group with the name of workgroup1.
There are about 10 PCs in this working group with the names of PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4...
I have a folder in PC1 with folder1 name and I want to share it in the Working Group
I want that only users of PC2 and PC3 to see this folder
    Please me tips

For starters, Windows file sharing does not care and cannot distinguish any particular computer access.  Windows protects access to files by user name and password.  Therefore, on PC1, you must create a username and password for everyone you want to access the files on this computer.  Then, they authenticate from any computer with this user name and password.

Secondly: For Windows to distinguish a user to another user, "Simple file sharing" must be disabled.  Active Simple file sharing, all users that connect to the service computer will always authenticate as user 'Guest' and, therefore, you can control access to any file or folder it by individuals.  Simple file sharing cannot be disabled on XP Home, to support this feature, your PC1 must be XP Pro edition.

Assuming that you did this now, everything you need to know to disable Simple file sharing and establishing user access to files is in this article:

  • How to share a folder, but not its subfolder

    Hello
    I'm using xp pro sp3.
I have a network with computers-all 3 have the same workgroup name and no password setting (everything works fine).
Now my question is - how do I turn off sharing for a spesific subfolder (not all subfolders) to a user only?
    Thank you

Simple logic says that in order to prevent a user from a folder, the computer should recognize somehow than the user to other users.

According to my logic, this action does not take place on the folder shared/subfolder/all file level only, according to the name of the other computer on the network that share the same working group.

Some sort, I solved my problem by adding another program: VNC

You can do this with desktop computers, but you can do with libraries.  The document library, if you develop open, it has a folder 'Public '.  What you put there - even other files - will be shared between all users.

  • How to share a printer Canon MP 970 with a WinXP Dell laptop and a Dell of Win7 desk top?

I recently implemented a Dell PC in Win7 professional desk top which is ethernet connected to Verizon FIOS router home. This configuration has replaced a desktop Dell 7 years under Win XP computer. In an adjacent room, I have a Canon MP970 USB printer connected to an old Dell Laptop for six years under Win XP and connected wireless to the router home. I was unable to configure the latest desktop computer Win7 to share Canon printer. Older Dell/WinXP (replaced) desktop has been configured to share the printer Canon with Dell laptop, WinXP and did successfully...

In the laptop, I selected control panel > printers and faxes > sharing > drivers additional > environment, but can find no list for Win7. My thought is that the laptop must have the appropriate driver that allows it to recognize the request of Win7 Office to share the Canon MP970 printer. GrampyH

    Hi GrampyH,

If you have a printer connected to your computer, you can share it with anyone on the same network. No matter what type of printer you have, as it is installed on your computer and is directly connected with a USB cable or other type of printer cable. The people from that your choice to share the printer will be able to use it to print, as long as they first locate your computer on the network.

Printers that are directly connected to a network and not connected to a computer are available to anyone on the same network. These printers must have a network port or wireless connection that allows them to connect directly to the network.

You can read these articles and check if that helps.

    Hello Ashan,

    Thanks for the reply.

You can try to follow the following suggestions to solve the problem.

First, try to reset Internet Explorer and see if that helps.

    Reset Internet Explorer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings. Reset Internet Explorer is not reversible, and all the previous settings are lost after reset.

    Additional information:

We can also refer to the computer or the device manufacturer's Web site and try to update the latest version of the network adapter drivers.

    (Also works for Windows 8)

Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly

    To connect to the Internet

I hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us again and we will be happy to help you.

    Thank you

  • How to share data in the tables ' User_ * ' with another schema

I want to share the data in the table WHERE USER_SEGMENTS with another schema. If I create a view and grant select on the view, when the other schema queries the view data are identical to themselves querying the SYS.user_segments table directly.
    create view sys_user_segments as select * from sys.user_segments;
    grant select on sys_user_segments to A;
My guess is that the SYS.user_segments table is a view based on the current user.

Is there a way to share such data without creating a copy of the table?

    Oracle: 10g

    Thank you

If the ADMINISTRATOR is concerned about B access to DBA_SEGMENTS (or by creating DBA_SEGMENTS views that belongs to a user who has access on top and then grant access to this view of B), it seems pretty crazy allow that kind of database connection.

If you create a database link belonged to B that connects to A, B is, in substance, given any privilege that has exercises. But it is done in a very, very dark which will no doubt be neglected in the future when someone gets a check. He'll be sitting here to wait that someone (accidentally or intentionally) Decides to exploit the security hole and do something that is causing a problem (by removing all data from a table, grabbing all the sensitive data in a table, etc.). Risks of this almost certainly far, far* far * outweigh the risks of even leaving B to obtain direct access to DBA_SEGMENTS.
