Two files of programs after Vista update...

Hello.
I received the gradual upgrade of toshiba + Vista DVD today and everything was how it is described. As it is written in the guide, all the previous xp programms etc some time deleted. I like this because I want to tpo have a clean install. So I was update BIOS and then from the Vista installation. Then there comes a screen if I want you 'Upgrade of XP' or 'do a new installation. " I can't choose 'Upgrade', just the 'new installation' (so far there has no problem! I want to have a fresh install of Vista and then install my programms etc I used XP)

Then the installation has been completed and everything was fine, then by installing the drivers etc from the Toshiba DVD. Also no problem.

But when I looked in the under "C:" Solution Explorer I found 2 "program"-folder, one was the new Vista program folder, the other was a relic of XP. "." Even with these other issues, I had XP: for example "I386" etc etc.

I thought that this drive is formatted then Vista is installed and just tthat 'Windows.old' is left XP-time...

I was looking in the registry, but there is no program that I had installed on XP, so I think that this files are just here like this with any sense.

So can I remove the old stuff? And why is it said in the guide that I'll lose all the programms etc when I do the Vista upgrade? Or maybe the goal is like that I can't USE these programs in XP, even if the programm-files
There are.

I think the best is to windows.old and double program-folder in the trash?

Thank you, goodbye, Kai

Hello

Remove the I386 folder and enjoy your life. ! :)

  • Satellite P200 PSPB6: Collapsed control buttons working after Vista update

    I have the Satellite P-200 model PSPB6 with Vista Home Premium for more than 1 year.
    So far, there is no problem of material with him.

    Although there are software problems, the most important of which is that the laptop sometimes fails to wake from Hibernate mode and the continuation of this failure. I need to reinstall the driver LAN at any time.

    But a few days ago after a massive Vista (approximately 40 patches at the same time) update all the hardware buttons (for internet, Media Player, etc.) suddenly stopped working.
    In fact, the only button I used actively was button, launch Internet Explorer, whereas, instead of opening the media player and by launching a media file in the menu much more ergonomic correspondent is just double click on the name of the file in a like Total Commander file manager.

    Well, my first thought was that the drivers for these buttons have been destroyed following this update messy (I managed to install all updates,
    except for Office 2003, after 5 attempts only partially successful, in the 6th!).
    There is no sign of incorrect or missing drivers in Device Manager.

    I've located the corresponding devices in the Device Manager under system devices---> button to launch the direct Application.
    There are 3 devices with that name in Device Manager (although my laptop has 6 buttons). All of them are declared as "working properly", although none of the 6 buttons actually work.

    The second idea was to use the tools of Toshiba. I found that there is a "Toshiba button Support" field in Toshiba Assist--> optimization, which opens a window
    which I guessed (there is no description of the functions of this window or even simple mentioning of it in the user's guide) is used to reassign functions of the any of the buttons to launch applications defined by the user instead of browser by default, Media Player, etc..
    But the strange thing is that there are only 2 fields instead of 6 in the drop-down list of the button names: 'Internet' and ' CD/DVD.

    Well, I wrote 'C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe' as the target path for the 'Internet' button and saved the button.
    The button did not work so far :(

    The third thing I did: I reinstalled the package with added value for the model 6 buttons. Without success :(((

    If anyone knows how we can restore the function of the buttons - please help me.

    And if someone can explain why the app for the model 6 button ignores these buttons 4
    (and why the devices for 3 buttons appear in the Device Manager)-
    This information would be useful as well.

    Sorry! (P. 4-14 of the operating manual), I found the info on how to change the functions of the top 2 buttons - and it seems that the functions of
    Only these 2 buttons are configurable, 4 others are fixed. And these fixed buttons actually work if Windows media player is launched.
    So my question boils down to this: How can restore the function of the first two buttons (definable by the user)?

    Hi, I read your post because I have the sam problem.
    I have a new P300d - good machine - showing a lot of problems, although
    So I installed vista business in v2.1 bios and the buttons works great.
    After the updates, then the functions keys were different, so I downloaded and installed the package of value added. The only difference was that collapsed buttons not all working.
    So I uninstalled the VAP and they worked as at the start.
    Something else - find the ButtonSetting.ini file and try to change the functions of the keys here.
    So I hope that it can give you another idea and help you in any way.

    What browser do you use?

    If you use internet explore then try optimizing and check for the issue.
    Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936213
    Usually we recommend that you use the latest version because it would include all later versions and patches for it. Uninstall the old version would not cause any problem.

  • Loop of startup repair after vista update on 15-04-09

    .post a {text-decoration: underline ;}}

    Hello

    I hope someone here can help me.  I tried Googling for solutions, but after having tried everything without success, I'm bringing my problem here.

    I had gone through the internet when the program to close unexpectedly.   After trying to restart my laptop Dell 1720 (Windows Vista Home Premium), I went to bed after seeing the stage 2/3 update on the screen. It shows, in the morning, he can not start and gives me the ability to startup repair. After that, it is said that it cannot repair this computer automatically. Details of the problem are the following:
    Startup Repair V2
    AutoFailover
    6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6001.18000
    Bad driver
    WrpRepair

    I tried to restore to previous restore points (all tell me there's a missing file, error code 0 x 80070002), safe mode, last known good configuration and I end up in the same loop of startup repair. I have not installed recent programs, drivers and devices.  I am depressed and want to avoid going back to a factory installation since I've had this laptop for a year and have a ton of files and programs.  Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    ETA: I also run chkdsk (no errors found) and sfc/scannow (Windows Resource Protection cannot run task or something like that).

    In fact, my problem has been able to start Windows Vista after the last update (14/04/09) install.  The error code came when I tried to restore my system to my restore points.  Finally I ended up taking my hd to access my data.  Then I tried to reinstall Vista from Dell provided and had problems reinstall drive to do so (hung up END INSTALLATION).  A call to Dell support had me change some of my BIOS settings and finally managed to get Vista installed.  Now, I'm in the painful process of restoring all my programs and personal data.  This time, I created a partition for the operating system and a separate for all my photos, music, etc. so I don't have this problem of losing all my data the next time the fact once again Vista (and it will be!  I already lived 2 BSOD since reinstalling 2 days ago!)  So, there was no solution to my original post.  Good luck to everyone else who has the same problem with the Vista updates.

  • Help! Impossible to open or run almost all programs after Windows Update KB976002 'Browser Chooser' was automatically installed.

    I had, very unwisely, allowed the Windows updates should be installed automatically.  An update installed itself on 15 March 2010, KB976002 who is called the browser selector.  This canoe be uninstalled and reading other forums, I understand it could be something that was forced into the EU.  His goal is probably to allow users of two or more internet browsers to choose how they hire, but since it installed itself that I could not open or run most of the other programs including MS Office, Skype, iTunes, while others can be opened only if chosen to be administrator.  If I could, I would like to uninstall this update.  Similar defects there?  Any help please?

    Remove the Vista updates; two ways to do this:

    1. a System Restore to before the updates:

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > System Restore > restore time/choose your own date > next

    If you use Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

    If it is impossible to enter the Normal Mode, do a Safe Mode system restore:

    Press F8 at the startup/power and the list of startup options, use THE ARROW key to select Safe mode > and then press ENTER.

    System restore steps according to the info above.

    Also:

    2. click on start > right click on computer > properties > Windows updates down the lower left corner > updates installed in the lower left corner in the next window

    > then click the one that you don't want > uninstall will appear at the top > uninstall it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, on the page where you clicked "Installed updates", click on change settings at the top left corner it
    > Change update settings in the next page of AutoUpdate to "check for updates but let me choose etc" > OK ".
    When you take a look at pending updates, you can either download/install them one at the time, namely the update causing you problems.
    > or if you do not need an individual > right-click on > UAC prompt > hide it
    Hello
    Here's something that I put in place when the posters have problems with Windows updates.
    They must be both to find the problem, we tried.
    But it takes a material one, graphics, etc. to limit.
    You do not have to install an update problem will continue to cause problems for you.
    Is there a way to get around that.
    Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.
    You should only get the latest drivers for them to real hardware manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor those have the most recent drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd party hardware Manufactuer to provide.
    But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.
    You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:
    'Remove an update'
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/remove-an-update
    When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again
    "How to hide or show an update of Windows Vista"
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/72491-Windows-Update.html
    Here's how to chanage update settings, if you think it is necessary to:
    "Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/Windows-Vista-updates-and-extras/
    Or the other of these two update settings will give you the chance to see what you want to install through Windows updates;
    Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.
    Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.
    But remember you normally only have problems with hardware 3rd party drivers. Other updates are to improve the Performance and security of your system
    See you soon.
  • Why Firefox tells me "another program is using the file" 1 hour after the update of Firefox, when I click on the desktop icon?
    It happened when I tried to update c. 16 to 17 as well. I had go it and download v. 18 and he told me that she had and he asked me to restart Firefox. I clicked on the "Restart Firefox" button. He closed Firefox 17. I waited an hour and no Firefox had begun. I clicked on the icon on my desktop for Firefox, and I got a window with "another program is using the file.
    The last time that happened, I had to uninstall v. 16, use Opera 12.12 to download version 17 and then installed, to have to set my preferences just a little and then I could start v. 17.
    Why update your program allows me to update, instead of downloading a new program?
    I'm on Windows XP SP3 and a very fast motherboard.
    Finally, I decided to check if my AVG antivirus or IOBit Malware Fighter software is interfering and I disabled them temporarily. I restarted and then turned off these programs and then opens Firefox. It was as usual, 17.0.1 version not updated. I went to help, on Firefox, click Find updates. Downloading updates, invited to restart Firefox, and after closing Firefox, I got the window that says that he was installing the updates, for the first time for an attempt to update to version 17 or 18. He installed the updates and restarted in fact without any problems.
    I was about to turn off all of my Add-ons for the next test. I never had to disable my AVG or IOBit before and they are the latest versions, too. AVG is the same version that allowed the update to v. 16 before. If something is different both Firefox 17 and 18, that it will not allow updates with AVG in force (or possibly IOBit Malware Fighter).
  • Cannot open/save to files and programs after installing Windows updates
    original title: Windows Update - major problems
    My daughter has an HP laptop.  She has downloaded the Windows updates and now she can't open most of its programs.  Those that it can open, will not work correctly.  Some won't let him save, some will leave him no open files she saved in them.  If she tries to delete any program in the Control Panel, add and remove, she receives a message that there is a mistake and that the program has already been deleted. (Even the programs that it can open, but do nothing). Some of its programs to tell him that she is missing a .dll file.  If she found on the Internet and she sees something she wants to save, she used to be able to right click and save, now it does not get the dialog box when it right click.  She uses Firefox not Internet Explorer.  When she downloaded updates, the resarted the computer as usual, but when he arrived at stage 3 of 3 it locked to 0% (with NO hard disk activity) and would not go further.  She let it harden for more than half an hour and finally pressed the power button to force it to turn it off.  When she turned her back on updates have continued as usual.  Is there a undate for the Wacom which was attached to the computer at a time. Everything worked fine before she comes to install the updates.
    Hello Mel_F,
    Thanks for your post.  Initially, we will execute the file system checker.  If that does not solve the problem, the next is to perform a Startup Repair.  Please let us know the results of these utilities so that we can help you get this resolved.
