Two operating system in a computer

I have install windows vista on windows XP, now I have two operating system in a computer, that I need to know how I can get Red Windows XP from my computer I am not using it anymore and I need to free up more space in my hard drive

Hi Nawwabym,

A. XP is installed in the primary partition?

B. What is the letter of the drive of the XP partition?

C. how many partitions you have on your computer?

To find the primary partition (Boot from Vista)

1. click on start

2 type Diskmgmt.msc in the search box and press on enter.

3 disk management windows open and you will be able to see the letter of the primary partition.

Removal of the partition that contains the original operating system on a multiboot system could render your system unusable. That partition contains system files that depends on your computer to start your computer, regardless of what OS you want to use.

Please provide details to help you further.

How to install two operating systems on a single computer, xp and windows 7... ?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.
For the installation of two Windows OS (called Dual Boot), you first determine what exactly the BONES. Based on this, you can proceed to install the oldest operating system first, then installing the latest OS. Here, in your case, Windows XP first and then Windows 7.
If you change the order, the latest version of Windows will not work correctly.
In addition, you can use Virtual PC or VMware to use Windows XP in Windows 7. Windows XP Mode is another version of Microsoft which allows you to use Windows XP in Windows 7 through Virtual PC. You can download Windows XP Mode from here:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Virtual-PC/Download.aspx
To install Windows XP Mode, you must have Windows 7 Professional or higher, with hardware virtualization enabled in your PC (you should check in the BIOS of your PC). If you prefer Windows XP Mode, you don't have to install Windows XP in the above mentioned way. It installs like any other program on Windows 7.
Note that if you have Windows 7 Edition Home Premium or lower edition, you can try Windows XP using Virtual PC/VMware or dual-boot.

    Hi Bhaisona

    1. do you have a new or different XP pro drive?
    2. the new drive has a different product key for XP operating system installed on the desktop IBM?

If the disc XP Professional nine and a key of different product, then you can install the computer with the Windows Vista operating system in a dual-boot configuration.

  • Two operating systems; Windows 7 Professional with an option of Windows 10

Two operating systems;  Windows 7 Professional with an option of Windows 10.

As a Neolithic Windows, I'm comfortable with Win 7 like all my old XP applications have continued to work with Win 7.  Now I want to try to get around the current Win 10 operating system through experience to see what Win 10 offers me in every sense of the use practable. I don't want to lose the existing installation of Win7 which works well, I think to a new PC.

I need a route which can accommodate my learning needs.  I'm open to suggestions that might involve touchscreen options to win 10 OS while keeping the mouse driven navigation for Win 7 applications.  Clues on a postcard!

10 dual-boot Windows, you will need to buy retail (it's only free if you use it to replace Windows 7, not to start the long side).

So first, buy an installation Windows 10 CD/USB stick to your favorite tech store and install it as a dual-boot option.

You will find that there is no dichotomy of the 'touch' vs 'mouse' use Windows 10.  You can use the mouse as you do today in Windows 7: there is literally not a single instance of a hidden mouse-gesture-operated menu, you need to know the secret movement to activate (unlike Windows 8, Windows 10 has been designed so that a user of Windows 7 could jump in without any training).

  • How can I actually protect the operating system of my computer?

At the time when I turn on my computer there is what is supposed to be "updated" something MicroSoft.  In other words, someone just hacked into my
computer and is committed to change the operating system on my computer.  I would like to prevent this.  How then?

It is probably not a hacker but instead MS just the things you really need to update as a security update.

You can disable updates, but it will more vulnerable and lead to instability.

    FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD

Greetings to one and all and I thank very you much for your help to help me.

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1501 with Windows Vista Home Basic AMD Mobile Sempron processor. Recently, I tried to upgrade the free version of my Antivir Avira antivirus for a trial version, but during the process, I lost my internet connection. Sometimes, my network shows another "Local and Internet" and "Local" only. However, in both cases I am not able to connect to the Internet. Whenever I try to open a page in the browser, it is blank and nothing appears on the screen... I also try to reinstall the operating system, but since I can't access the Internet when I reached the point of the process called "GET IMPORTANT updates to UPDATE for the INSTALLATION" where I have to choose between two options a) go online to get the latest updates (recommended) and b) do not get the latest updates for facilities , I can only opt for the other that says that the installation may fail. Therefore, it seems that I cannot even reinstall the operating system. In addition, I often small windows to appear on my screen as "msnmsgr.exe" "skype.exe" "OSA.exe" file corrupted with such messages "the file C:\Users\ myname\AppData\Local\Temp directory is corrupted and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility ". However, the problem is I can't run the check disk, because every time I have it try I got the following message "checking file system on C, the type of files is NTFS one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You can cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue"until I read the whole message again appears" the disk check was cancelled ". I am not able to get the help and Support Windows open, but on the window I only heard the message "you have lost your connection using Windows and support". I don't know what to get my computer works well and my connection internet back. Someone here tell me step by step what to do to solve all the problems mentioned above? I am very grateful to each of you. Please, note that from my computer I have not access to Internet, so tell me any solution which will take me to use my computer to connect to the Internet. Sorry for the length of my post.

PS at the beginning of this problem I used to have errors with their code on the screen of my laptop, but unfortunately I did not take account of their > more, for to appear the problem worsens my computer was a bit slow

    SECOND POST OF THIS THREAD

First of all, thanks a lot to you all and especially to the Lorien-SpiritX and their insightful answers. As they both suggest to me I tried sfc/scannow and I received the following message on my laptop screen "start the phase of checking system scan audit 44% complete Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

I did also check CHKDSK/f/r utility Office and I received the following message "the type of the file system is NTFS cannot lock drive current CHKDSK cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts "and I answered Yes

In addition, I tried to use my CD to reinstall my operating, but if it starts well by copying files to the end of the process, when the second stage of the process "expand our files" starts, it stops at 27% and never goes further.

These are all questions, added to all that I already mentioned in my first post with the same title

This looks like failing hardware, not software. I would look at the hard drive first, and then the RAM and the motherboard.

If the computer is still under warranty, contact Dell technical support.

On tests of hardware failures often alleged swapping parts by parts checked. If you can not do the test yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop.

I have a very irritating problem on my laptop...

I installed Windows 7 Professional x 86 on my laptop and the latest Ubuntu 9.10, and the computer crashes all the time.
The original operating system was Windows Vista Home edition.
The computer is 1 and a half years and I can not beIeave that's not Win7 compatible, and it does not support the latest version of Ubuntu, so if someone has an idea what is the cause or if the configurations are needed to run it please help me.

computer crashes all the time is a rather general statement and I do not think that anyone here can say with certainty what the problem is here. Operating system installation is a complex mixture of operating system itself and many different additional drivers, tools, utilities and party applications third.

Who knows what you did, how you installed it and what was your order of facilities? So for this problem cannot wait for a simple response.

First step of course is install Win7. At this point the OS is naked and without some additional software.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    Hello

System Restore puts your computer's settings to a date earlied.

You mean that recovery of the system.

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.
