• UCS B200 M3 memory speed

  We have recently installed a few new servers M3 B200, completely filled with DIMMS of 24 x 16 GB (1866 mhz), 2 x E5-2697 v2 processors.

  If you use 3dpc you'd be stuck at 1333, even if you are att 1866 DIMMS and CPU.

  Don't put the vCenter on one chassis 5108 blades and can control the ESXi hosts on the other blades? If this is the case, on the design, it's possible? Install the vCenter on a single blade with ESXi or ESXi?

  as mentioned above, it is possible

  also the best design of practice in a certain measure, it is preferable to have VCenter in a virtual machine to take the advantage of using Vmotion HA for example features to reduce the risk of losing your vCenter because of HW faular for example

  You may have a blade for VCenter use in hunting and other blad for Vcenter backup for example hunting another!

• UCS B200 M3 - reconfiguration of RAID

  Hello guys! How everyone else is doing?

  I have this ongoing project. We currently have 29 B200M3 blades, all running ESX. The RAID configuration on service profiles are defined on the raid1 with two disks.

  Our client wants to break this raid1 for that ESX is installed on disk 1 and the second disc delivered to ScaleIO (which will run also on all 29 blades). This seems to me a re - install all ESXs on all uses of blades. But I was wondering. If I could break the raid1 but installing ESX have preserved my work would be much simpler.

  Is it possible to do this?

  Unfortunately, this is not possible. No matter what raid/disc related operations require reinstallation of the operating system.

  We have 3 virtual machines from one physical server to Dell, we want to migrate those virtual machines from a server of the UCS.

  I was wondering if just copy all the files of the virtual machine to another server or there is another procedure to do this... and also we need new licenses of vmware?

  ESXi licenses is up to you, you might have bought it so that the UCS, or buy directly from VMWare, but you need to license.

  As for traffic, if you have vCenter, you can move the virtual machines using it (vMotion and/or Storage vMotion), or if not, you can perform a cold migration.

• How to add a VLAN to a B200 M3

  I have a M3 of UCS B200, which is a Proxy of veeam backup server and I need to give it access to an additional VIRTUAL local network.

  There are several other blades with access to the VLAN and I can see it.

  Glen,

  You will need to add the VLAN for the vNIC on the profile of the blade in question service.

  If the vNIC is created from a template update, you need to add the VLAN model vNIC updated OR untie the vNIC to the model and make the necessary changes.

  Servers tab > Service profile > vNIC

  LAN tab > policies > model vNIC

• Keyboard cannot work after launch KVM in UCS

  I am facing a strange problem to install ESXi to a UCS B200 M2 blade, after replacing the two hard drives, I try to install ESXi on this blade again, but after the launch, the KVM, seems my keyboard cannot communicate with KVM, means I will not push "enter" to start the installation. All the key stop working, even use "macros".  This problem is only happening on a blade, no problem to use KVM for communication with the blades of rest. Already tried:

  a. retrieve this blade.

  b. re associate this blade with the service profile

  c. re install java on my laptop.

  d. try on a different workstation

  But still does not work. all the blades with the same profile adjustment services actaully.

  Can you make sure that the MMIC is running the same version as the UCSM and check the results.

  Also, you can try a MMIC and a CMOS reset to see if that makes a difference.

• How many vNIC on B200 M3 with VIC 1240 + extender?

  Asking to confirm my resoning/interpretation of B200 M3 with VIC 1240 + extensible architecture.

  I'll apply vSphere 5.1 works UCS B200 M3 equipped with blades with VIC 1240 + expanders mezzanine.

  If I understand the documentation, all the physical links through the fabric between the host and the IOM are automatically approved by UCS, so if I don't create only one UCS vNIC by fabric, ESXi must 'see' vmnic with 40 Gbps capacity (with limitation of 10 Gbps for the single 'flow').

  Say this another way - there is no need to create 8 vNIC to use all 8 physical links?

  With the VIC 1240 and Extender port and 2208 hypervisor ESX will be able to see an aggregation of links total of 40G network card.

  I have a Cisco UCS blade chassis system that we just finished setting in in the last few weeks. It is planned to organize OpenStack, and if we try to install a variant of Ubuntu on this subject. Except that when the boot blades, they seem to have a pretty big bug that hits right after as the network starts. I have 4 blades UCS B200 M3 with 196 GB of RAM and 2620-E5-XEON Processors with VIC 1240 MLOM - 40G - 01 on each blade. They connect to UCS 6120XP FI switches. The material is "usable" status and restart does not seem to make a difference.

  I can complete an installation of Ubuntu (12,04 LTS and tested 13.10, two 64-bit server installations) very well, but at startup (startup about 5/7 ups) she get the following:

  

  It has 4 vNIC to network interfaces, set up on each blade through a Council of network VIC1240 on the blade.

  It works very well with CentOS 6.5 x 64 Windows 2008R2 and 2012 server installs Ubuntu hangs here, gets a possible delay of DHCP on occasion (because not all 4 for NICs are on network VLAN with DHCP running) and but it's there. I can hit enter and it falls to the bottom of line, ctrl-C and it prints the ^ c but nothing else. ALT - F2 or ctrl-alt-F2, what to try to lay a new shell does nothing. And I let it sit for about 6 hours without change.

  On rare occasions, I've seen it finish booting, but it does not receive this error of aepi on these occasions and seems to work correctly. I was able to do an apt - get update/upgrade to level and finished without any problem. The network seemed but to restart, he returned to the same problem.

  I tried Ubuntu on 3 of the 4 blades I have available and have the same problem on all of them.

  This problem prevents my servers to boot successfully about 75% of the time.

  Don't know the solution, but

  (1) that very little time, Cisco officially support Ubuntu, so you can open a TAC case

  (2) I have a client who successfully (after some trouble), Ubuntu installed on the C-series servers

• UCS Auto-deploiement of the configuration using PXE and double vNIC

  We are trying to set up Auto deploy blades UCS B200 M3.  Our facility has the chassis connected to double 6248 fabric interconnects.  We managed to get this to work when the blades have been identified by the MAC configured on the DHCP (Infoblox) server address.  However, in trying to solve the scenario of the tempting PXE server start using either NIC, thus having two MAC addresses, this scenario could not be supported on the DHCP server (mapping two MAC addresses to a single IP address).  Then we had the idea of using the GUID/UUID of the blade as a unique identifier, as it is the same regardless of the NETWORK card is used.

  We tried to put in place, but were unsuccessful.  Blade sends its ' GUID by using the option DHCP 97, but the DHCP server is only looking for the customer ID via DHCP Option 61.  We have not been able to determine how, otherwise, the blade server can send its ' GUID via DHCP Option 61 and Infoblox tells us that their server may not be configured to accept the Option DHCP 97 as a customer identifier.

  Someone has encountered this situation and it is resolved?  It is certainly not a unique situation, having a server blade with two network adapters.

  That's why you need to select the 'hardware failover flag' in the definition of a vnic. If your vnic is attached to A fabric and a fails, you will automatically turn on to the B-fabric.

  I was looking for a recommendation which switch parts I should look to buy a system UCS to run several virtual machines and a catalyst that has the WLC ability. This is a test environment play with ISE and first for additional machines could also added to it.

  However, I'll have to keep a relatively low cost for the business expense.

  The things I need are:

  UCS blade - no idea which one to look at, but the machines that I need on this subject at least are ISE, premium and a windows AD with a CA server infrastructure.

  3650 catalyst to test the functionality of ISE with features wireless integrated switch.
