UEFI - what is it?

I was making my computer up to date through the HP support page. They listed 3 updates for my computer to the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics module all referring to the object above. I have a Pavilion HP500-a60 with 8 64-bit Windows computer. Anyone know if this is a required update? Help, please. Thank you very much.

Norman

The UEFI Diagnostics update to the latest version is a good plan. The latest version is much more diagnostics component than the original versions.

Diagnostics of material UEFI version 5.3.4.0 is the only only you need to update to

  • What the hell is an environment to help HP UEFi

OK, HP support assistant told me that a new important upgrade was available for my laptop, UEFI support environment 4.2.5.0Ap1.  So maybe as a sheep I downloaded.  It creates a new partition on my hard drive (TOOLS HP) and installed.  Nothing serious took place, but what the hell did I download?  I have, of course, wrongly, that it was an update of an existing product.

Because now I'm assuming that is I don't know what it is that I should not play with it.

    Thank you.

    Hello

What this gives you is a user-friendly user interface more executing diagnostcs.  If you type following the esc key you start Notepad, you will be able to select this diagnostic menu (f2 key).

For example, if you want to run a test on the drive hard or memory, this use is in the meu to bios (f10) where you browse and run the tests using the arrow keys and touch.  Menu diagnosis uefi will allow you to choose a variety of tests using the Mouse/touchpad in the same way that you access Windows.

The new partition (HP_TOOLS) contains the files needed to support this interface.

Another point to note is that this provides also a safer way to update the bios if you need to-instead of the bios flash running in Windows, in the environment of uefi, the flash occurs after the machine is restarted - that is to say before Windows loads.  It is usually safer that software which may interfere with a flash of the bios (software security etc.) is not running.

Personally, I would only update the bios if it solves a problem you have or adds features that you need.

    Kind regards

  • EFI and UEFI

Apple uses EFI and UEFI it days and how to find the version?

    Hey there Mark,.

Looks like you want to know how to check your EFI version, and Yes our computers that use EFI pursuant to this section:

On the updates of the EFI and SMC firmware for Mac computers with Intel processor

You should be able to check this version number using the information system:

How to check your firmware version

Follow these steps to check the ROM to boot your Mac EFI and SMC firmware versions.

    1. Open Information System.
    2. Select the hardware section to display the model identifier, version of boot ROM and s-m-c version numbers.

If the firmware version that see you in system information is newer than what is indicated for your Mac, you do not need to apply updates listed for this model. If you try to use a manual update that is not designed for your Mac, or is not necessary, Setup alerts you and the software is not installed.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support, all the best!

  • How to use the utility to update (uefi) BIOS HP

    Notebook: G62 a10em

    I downloaded the BIOS update tool from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063 & lc = on & cc = us & dlc = in & sw_lang = & product = 4226...

and it is installed on my USB key.

Now, how can I update my bios?

    The USB key contains now:

    BIOS

    | - Current (empty folder)

    | - New (empty folder)

    | - Previous (empty folder)

    BIOSUpdate

    -CryptRSA.efi

    -CryptRSA32.efi

    -HpBiosUpdate.efi

    -HpBiosUpdate.s09

    -HpBiosUpdate.sig

    -HpBiosUpdate32.efi

    -HpBiosUpdate32.s09

    -HpBiosUpdate32.sig

my current version of bios is f. 08

    I did a cut above.

After looking at the appropriate file you downloaded, it says this:

    "Prerequisites .
-Microsoft .NET 2.0 is required. UEFI and Custom Imaging - the HP BIOS update must be run from a FAT or FAT32, partition with a volume of the "HP_TOOLS" name This Installer gives you the option to install on the hard disk (HDD) or USB. If you install on the HARD disk and the HP_TOOLS partition is not present, Setup prompts to create the HP_TOOLS partition. If you install on a USB key, Setup renames the partition on the USB in HP_TOOLS. If you use a custom image, you can create the HP_TOOLS partition manually with the type FAT32 and that the volume HP_TOOLS name. ATTENTION:-the UEFI system partition is not protected and can be removed. -Backup of the computer by using the complete PC Backup feature of Microsoft Windows Vista does not save the UEFI system partition. For these reasons, HP recommends that you place no additional data on the UEFI system partition. Because the partition is not backed up, corruption or failure of the partition will result in the loss of all data on the partition, as well as the loss of UEFI functionality. "For more information, visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"

There is little documentation on how to use it, but a Member here figured it out.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/operating-systems-and-software/envy-14-system-recovery-doesn-t-work-with-latest-BIOS/m-p/328684/highlight/false#M45165

    using Windows 7:
Just plug in the USB key and then run the SPnnnnn.exe BIOS file downloaded from the Web site drivers HP.
Assuming that the USB is configured correctly (see below), Setup the BIOS sees the HP_TOOLS partition on the USB, copy of the BIOS and its file signature on the USB key, then run Setup winflash. The system BIOS detects the USB and the partition HP_TOOLS and the BIOS is magically updated.
I put in place a new USB key as follows:
1 rename the partition HP_TOOLS from the hard drive to something different like HP_TOOLSbak
    2. Plug the USB
    3. Download and run the utility to update the BIOS (not the BIOS, still) drivers HP support page.
    4. Select the option to install to a USB
    5. Select the option to create the partition HP_TOOLS
    6. The reader should now be formatted as HP_TOOLS with a record of Hewlett-Packard containing BIOS and BIOSUpdate records. The BIOS folder contains empty current, news and previous records.
7 download and run the HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) MS drivers HP support page
    8. Select the option to install on a USB key. This will create a SystemDiags folder under the Hewlett-Packard folder
    9. Download and run the HP Notebook System BIOS update for the HP support page drivers, given that the USB is correctly tagged it will install the update of the bios on the USB drive
10, we have to end up with a HP_TOOLS partition on the USB drive identical to the one that you removed from the hard drive.
Once you have configured the USB drive, you can upgrade to other versions of BIOS (most recent or oldest) using this drive, as I mentioned above: just plug in the USB and then download and run the BIOS Setup program.

Having said that I'm not sure of what you do, once you boot the USB drive.

  • Satellite NB10T: Want to install Win 7 but cannot change the UEFI in MSC mode

    Hello

I know that it isn't the best article at the post office, but there is no instance void for my computer (Satellite NB10T) series and this problem is bound to win 8
I'm stuck at the moment: I disentailed 8 victory because I want to go back to 7

    I am aware of
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm
The problem is that I did not mode Boot under advanced system configuration option; the only thing I can do is enable or disable secure under the Security tab, startup mode which isn't enough

I also added a supervisor password. It adds a clear keys for secure boot option, but still nothing on the Advanced tab to move to the Csm.
Clearing keys does not work too.

I tried to boot multiple linux distro and win7 on usb bootable (theses work on other computers), but no luck. Boot order usb first value of course).
    What can I do?

Edit: will put some pictures of the uefi

You posted the screenshots of the configuration of Toshiba utility.
The boot mode must be changed in the BIOS settings.

To access the BIOS of the laptop must be turned off.
Then put the unit BUTTON and press F2 to enter the BIOS.

In the BIOS, you will find the necessary options: secure boot must be disabled and the UEFI mode must be changed to MSC mode

    Thank you all

    Hello
Can you tell us what your problem is? I have seen a lot of technical stuff, but do not clearly understand your problem.
If you are having problems to start Ubuntu in an Efi / UEFI environment I suggest you try copying the file to start the live-media / installation in your startup folder media.
Please note that the suggestion is not detailed must apply little reason.

  • Satellite A500 boot UEFI/legacy option - request for update of the BIOS-

    I am the proud owner of a Satellite A500 PSAR9A - 02S 001
I was very happy with it over the years.

However, when you try to dual boot, I use in all sorts of problems.

I really need uefi/legacy startup options to be unlocked in the bios menu
I think that this feature is present
However there is no options to configure in bios, please release an update for this.

    Please, I beg you.

It would help me a lot.
Not too much talk of what all the other hidden settings in the bios u could also unlock.
I'd appreciate any help in this

As far as I know, Toshiba offers a few changes of BIOS options and is not also a part of the BIOS updates.

What kind of problems you have with dual boot?
What is preinstalled on your computer? Post please some info on exact OS install.

  • Re: Satellite C850 and UEFI BIOS settings

    I have laptop Satellite C850 - 1 2 with Windows 8.1

When I boot, it shows a toshiba logo, not the original flag 8 Windows. It is not so much a problem, but I can't change because the parameter is blocked within the parameters of the UEFI. How can I change this?

I already tried to change through the windows in different ways, but each time it will change the UEFI!

    Help?

To be honest I don't know what to do, you mean with blocked settings, but it can be changed in the BIOS settings.
What you need is to make complete OS stop http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm and after having done that, you can restart the laptop and enter the BIOS (try F12) settings and then you can change all the settings of the BIOS.

  • model of my laptop and HP Bios Update UEFI

    Hello, I have two questions

    (1) I can't find what model number, my laptop is so I can understand that downloads to download off the hp drivers and software update and I tried this auto finder without any results. It is a Pavilion dv6, I was sure the model number was dv6 - 3143sa, but when I look for what happens with 3 other option dv6 - 3143ca, dv6-3143 cl - and dv6 - 3143us. which of them should I use?

Also, I noticed there was an update of Bios HP system UEFI, some body can tell me if this will allow my laptop to initialize in 5/10 seconds? I read some stuff on the bios of the summer replaced with new UEFI which allow the faster start-up times and I was wondering if it is the same no? If not someone can tell me what makes this update for my bios and it is better to install?

You are looking to play Elite space sim and need to know what graphics card is compatible and works well.

    I am naïve.

You must use a PCIe x 16 graphics card. If you want one with all power, you also have to replace the power supply with a 400 Watt unit that has power connectors POCIe-6 and 8 pins.

Your desktop PC is fairly new OSB which will alow you to use modern video cards that support UEFI BIOS.

  • Clean install Windows 7 with UEFI in dv6-7215nr

Hi, I would like to do a clean install of my HP dv6-7215nr Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x 64 envy laptop.

To this end, I have 3 questions to solve some installation issues.

    1. What are the steps to clean install Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise intact in UEFI mode?

I tried to install Win 7 after the pre-requisites following:

    (a) not partitioned 200 GB free space on the disk (only 1 physical disk)

    (b) already installed Windows 8 files with UEFI

    (c) UEFI enabled

    (d) heritage disabled startup

    (e) secure boot disabled

When I Boot in UEFI of CD/DVD, I can't switch to the Windows startup screen, it just hangs. What I am doing wrong? Is there any other prerequisites that I don't know?

I tried to install UEFI with Legacy enabled Boot, and I installed win7 but I can't disable Legacy new Boot because Win7 boot and I want only the UEFI Boot and need for inheritance disabled.

    2. where can I download drivers for Windows 7 for my laptop?

    I found this topic:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-systems-and-software/HP-envy-DV6-7210ei-downgrade-fr...

    They point to these drivers

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us & dlc = in & lc = in & product = 5273735 & task = &

I think I could use these drivers, but I need just in case where. I guess they should work as the product names are roughly similar (with mine).

    3. is it possible to Secure Boot with Windows 7 SP1?

I have no research on this so far.

Thanks for the help that someone in the community can give to me, it is not important all the problems that I have set in I can still do research on questions 2 and 3 and help others with my research if I can do it before a response. Any info you can give me will be too great.

    Carlos

    (1) ' secure Boot' must be DISABLED and 'Legacy Support' must be ENABLED to install Windows 7 and many other older operating systems. The bootable media must support UEFI boot to install on a GPT-partitioned drive.

You let people with DISABILITIES 'Secure Boot' (and 'Legacy Support' ENABLED) once you have installed Windows 7. Changing these options causes Windows 7 to start is no longer.

    (2) the Windows 7 drivers on the CTO Entertainment Notebook PC drivers HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 page you referenced, will work on your computer.

    (3) it is not possible to install or use Windows 7 with "Secure Boot" ACTIVE.

    WARNING *.

HP does not recommend installing Windows 7 on a consumer computer comes with Windows 8, and it will support the installation of Windows 7. HP cannot provide the drivers for Windows 7 and the appropriate drivers are not available for the hardware in the computer. In addition, Windows 7 can not take in charge some of the hardware or software designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

You will need to DISABLE 'Secure Boot' and ENABLE 'Legacy Support' in the 'Configuration of the BIOS start-up secured' on the page parameters below, until you try to install Windows 7.

In addition, as the hard drive is probably partitioned as TPG, you must start the computer by using the "UEFI - CD/DVD drive" or "UEFI - USB Flash drive" options in the boot menu "F9". If "UEFI - CD/DVD drive", "UEFI - USB Flash drive" or something to that effect does not exist in the start menu, please post a screenshot and/or make startup listed options.

I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best installation experience. If you need Windows SP1, see 'How to install Windows 7 without the disc' to download and create your own disc of Windows 7 SP1. If the DVD does not start as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (can ask "Quick start" DISABLING in BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid active UEFI USB Flash drive if it is formatted in NTFS and may require only a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installeror WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, because it contains options for 'Plan of GPT partition for UEFI computer' and 'FAT32'.

If you have missing or unknown devices after installing the drivers, please post to the "Hardware ID" Device Manager (just the text string will do) to these devices as shown in the example below.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Please click the 'Thumbs Up' white LAURELS to show your appreciation

I want to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on Sat Pro C50 (downgrade if you like - comes with 8 win), but I want UEFI boot, with GPT partitioning.
I'm happy wipe existing partitions if that solved the problem.

I have disabled _have_ Secure Boot.
    Win 8 install DVD boot works;
CSM boot and boot from Win 7 DVD works - but this is not what I want.
Definition of return to the UEFI boot and install Win7 boot media - hangs on "Starting Windows" screen
Media _is_ good, works well on the PC manufacturers.

I'm not convinced that it is a problem of Microsoft.

    Hello

On Toshiba laptops, where the UEFI BIOS is available, it of necessary to disable secure boot and change the boot to the CSM mode in order to boot from external sources and install systems other than Win 8 or 8.1 Win

Of the workarounds in the internet described the installation of Windows 7 in UEFI mode but I doubt that this will be possible on Toshiba laptops because the BIOS is different and modified for each series of laptop.

  • Tecra R940 - 1 hr: what happens to work out of the box with Linux?

    I'm considering buying a laptop Tecra R940 - 1 hr.
I'm going to use it with linux (ubuntu) system.

What happens to work out of the box?
Should I expect any problems with the display/network/wifi/sound?
What about camera, usb 3.0 and bt?

What is possible to work? Suspend? Function keys? Fingerprint reader? SD reader?

    What's not to work?

I run Ubuntu Studio (12.04) on a Tecra A11-ST3504, and everything works perfectly.

However, your computer probably has the latest UEFI instead of the BIOS, and this causes problems for some with start-up and installation.

If the live system starts and runs, I'd go for it.

I'll put the admins the trouble to make their usual warning: "of course, Linux is not supported by Toshiba."

    Enjoy!

DV6 - 7247cl just bought 1 week ago, I bought windows 8 pro upgrade pack and backed up my windows 8 base images.  When to perform in-place upgrade today ' today-all seemed well until it has restarted and came to a start with three boxes menu: Windows 8 on volume 4

    Windows 8 on volume 4

    Installation of Windows

I tried all 3 and each of them became all black and then blue screen, your computer has encountered a problem....

I went into recovery options and each tried and nothing worked.  The last option that I came was to make Factory Image Recovery, I need Windows 8 Pro because I join domain and use Bitlocker and start with the virtual hard drive.  Why it failed, would it secure boot or UEFI.  Please tell me what I can do to get this update to work.  The upgrade looked like it was working but then wouldn't boot into Windows more after the reboot.

Sorry for the experience with the support of Microsoft. I wasn't expecting that. Let us try the old process to restore the system to the factory settings, uninstalling unwanted applications and then create an inplace upgrade to Windows 8 Pro. Let's see what happens this time.
