  I guess the real problem here is the drive working, not RAM. They both found messages 'insufficient memory '.

  Historically, Photoshop has always been remarkably well with large files and little RAM. Excess data which cannot be held in RAM are written to the drive to work, and even if it slows down things considerably, it really requires a lot to run Photoshop to a complete stop.

  Of course, you must move to a 64-bit version of Windows. As it is, Photoshop can use less than 2 of your installed 8 GB of RAM. It's not much, but do not attempt to allocate more than 70% in the PS preferences. Process of the operating system and other applications need RAM too. Allowance too will choke the rest of your system and send it to pimples without end-of-file exchange.

  I have a Dell Inspiron 530 of 2007 which came with Vista and has been updated 2 years later at 7 w. I had to reinstall 7 W... 3 or 4 times since 2010. I guess that my machine can't handle W7 very well.
   
  My current problem started with a BSOD problem. After trying some suggestions Internet on how to solve this BSOD problem that did not work, including repair of Windows, I did a data back up mode without failure and then decide to reinstall Windows 7 from the MS CD. My level of understanding is limited, but as noted, I've done this before with success. What I didn't understand is there seems to be another unsolved problem which does not allow the complete reinstallation of windows.
   
  I did a clean install, then a formatting and in both cases, W7 could not complete the installation. It progresses to the final stage of "complete installation" and then there is a second error message 1 that I can't read... "" a problem has been detected... close... "."  It seems to be a reboot loop.
   
  I have since read that the original BSOD problem and the 'detected problem' could also well be linked to the display driver. And this driver it must be disabled before performing a Windows installation. But I'm not able to access Safe Mode or the control panel to turn it off. If this driver is the problem, is there another way to turn it off?

• This copy of Windows is not activated. After replacing the hard drive. The activation window is empty.

  The activation window is empty. XP Pro SP3 + System (2 updates the version) beta of SP4 added due to problems of program. Build 2600.xpsp + sp3_gdr_101209-1647(Service Pack 3). Problem started after the replacement of the boot hard drive that wasn't. New drive has been a ghost of the old boot copy and active. Having the disk key and product to install but the CD won't deal with any problems indicating that the version of the program is different, probably because of upgrades SP. The program disk is that Windows XP Professional Service pack 2 Version 2002, Ref. 0304 x 10-52217 and has passed many tests for over the years of downloads genuine microsoft software.   I don't know of any way to directly turn on the Layer Styles. You can use the menu command:
