Unable to complete Windows Setup - STOP: c0000221

Original title : I'm in tears. I made too many mistakes by trying to reinstall the Windows XP installation CD.  If you are my Angel, please help me with clear steps on how to repair.

I am in tears.

I want to sell my Dell laptop.  So I wanted to reinstall Windows XP so that all my personal files would be deleted from those who buy my laptop and the system would be restored to factory settings.  (Maybe I didn't need to reinstall windows for all of these reasons - I thought that's how to do it).

Then, I put the Windows XP reinstallation CD in and I'm sure I could start FROM the installation CD.  I got to the point of the blue screen asking me which partition delete etc...  I read an article that said to delete the C partition.  I tried, it wouldn't let me.  It says something about the temporary files...

So, I deleted the first partition on the list - which was in my opinion a FAT (?) partition which had quite a number 39 on the right side.

So so, nothing happens.  I can't start a new installation of Windows under this newly cleared partition (now says no partitioned) because there is not enough space. SO I try again the partition C. no luck. So I restart the CD and the computer.

After you restart the computer, I get I don't know to what extent, and I see a sign that says, "STOP: c0000221 unknown hard error/systemroot/system32ntdll.dll.

I don't know what I was doing at that time there, but later I see "line 1 of the inf file \i386txtsetup.sif is not valid - Setup cannot continue."

So I was in tears at this point, SO then I finished installation by pressing F3 and decide to try to get into my regular office - because I just wanted to try to install again.  Well, that's when I realize that I can't even not in my computer desktop computer now... way to connect.  I really missed upward.  He tells me that I have to reinstall \system32\hal.dll

I'M IN TEARS! :(  Dell will not help me unless I have pay $49... and I don't want to pay to get my computer ready for sale.  That's all just stupid.  And no wise never enough on the forums might help with the mess that I created.  So now I'm pretty depressed right now.  Nobody is probably reading this... or you have stopped at the first word when you have noticed how I typed.    :'-(

Looks like you do a repair instead of a clean install installation.

Since you are wiping the drive and setting up a new installation of XP Home, you must perform a clean installation!
Look here again:
That's what you need to do once you have started successfully on the CD:
1. Press any key when you see this screen:
(Who complete the process to boot from the CD. Otherwise, you'll have the wind upward to boot from your hard drive, after all.)
2. When you see this screen:
... you must press the Enter key.
3. When you see this screen:
... Press F8 (on certain laptops, you may need to press Fn + F8) to accept the license agreement.
4. When you see this screen:
DO NOT PRESS THE KEY R! (This would mean that you decide to perform a repair installation)! Instead, press the ESC key. This ensures that you "continue installing a new copy of Windows XP without repairing."
5. If you see this screen:

Press the Enter key.
6. When you see this screen:

... Press the L key.
7. When you see this screen:
... Press the Enter key. (This allows to create a partition on the unpartitioned space that will contain your new installation of XP Home.)
8. When you see this screen:
... highlight what you see in this example ("format the partition using the NTFS file system"). Then press the Enter key.
Continue to follow these tours:

  • Windows 7 recovery media is unable to complete the installation

I have had a total hard drive on my HP Pavilion DV6-3108EA failure and got the relevant HP recovery media and install a spare drive compatible plug - in this case, it's a Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 500 GB solid state of direct replacement for the deceased Samsung 500 GB disk drive. Drive diagnostic confirms that the replacement drive is fully functional without error.

The recovery kit comes with 3 DVDs. tightening of the bolts 1 and 2 are the Windows 7 recovery media and #3 is the recovery of applications and drivers. 1 recovery attempt has done OK, loaded all three DVD but eventually stuck at a screen "loading devices (40%). ", which would not go further even after a night's sleep. Therefore, power off, and...

Attempt 2 is better. I jumped 3 DVD and the construction seems to be almost complete but finally stopped with hearwarming message that "Windows cannot complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation"frustrating, I think you'll agree.

Out of curiosity I tried ctrl-alt-del what task manager open nicely and from there I was able to do many things including use setup to reconnect to my wireless router, enter the number of license Win 7 OK and activate windows, get the right keyboard configuration and launch a copy of IE8 with which I am still typing this message.

It seems so I have a PC almost fully functional except that Windows could not complete the installation and if I click the OK button in the offending dialog box, it restarts and returns to the same dialog box. Very frustrating. Oh and there is no button start / menu start so clearly there are always things to be completed.

The recovery media is "System Recovery Kit for portable Pavilion or Presario" (COL35379_631054_031) for which I paid £35,12 and expect to deliver the goods. But it doesn't work. Also remarkable is that the recovery media did not build a D: partition of recovery disk, contrary to what he says. Can anyone help?

It's frustrating. Fortunately, I can also access this forum and this email addressfrom my Android Tablet and check there return from time to time. Really appreciate your ideas and help here.

Either by the way, on a different thread, I read the assertion that HP requires to change a chip on the motherboard when you change a drive. This disc is loaded with tools and Windows software and saving the configuration changes as my wireless network details I don't buy that one. Thanks for reading this far.

Hoping for wise leaders to help me move forward.

    With regard to Al

So close and yet so far.

But I would like to clear one thing up to HP support were excellent - good focus on my ideas of the problem and a commitment to see it through.  No worries about to buy me the hot spare elsewhere.  Problem still not solved, but I'm more forward with other ideas to pursue.  I was told to reset the BIOS date to 2012 (don't know what difference that would make but there) and the construction has progressed much further this time.

More anon, but had to post a message praising the support that I received today.

    Result!

Fixing the date of the BIOS to 2012 has allowed the recovery to go much further, but still have up to a point where he had failed.  So, why?

Silly me!  Should have read the instructions on the screen and their follow-up religiously.  Eventually, the restore process (which takes a lot of time) begins to re - install applications and other things.  The message on the screen at the beginning of this process very clearly said that it will automatically reboot several times.  However, being a little too eager to get there, I finally saw a message that said that such and such an application requires a restart to complete the installation and stupidly I clicked the button restart now.  Who killed for the rest of the installation.  Finally I have sussed out - and kept following reconstruction my itchy fingers away from the mouse to the manuscript to rebuild whole had been terminated, making his own restarts suff and hey hop... a PC entirely restored with a nice new Samsung SSD drive.

As an aside, if you plan to replace your hard drive (defective or not) with a Samsung SSD tested loading the Wizard software that comes with it to optimize the OS to SSD hardware.  It optimizes the things like the prefetcher and Super-fetch to the machine and the drive to work more effectively together - very impressive.

Kudos to HP who were great support.  I know that some people say thay have bad experiences.  Mine here in the United Kingdom was outstanding.  The guy listened, asked good questions, gave good advice and has been a pleasure to work with - what would you like... oh yes, his advice worked!

Thanks to HP real home to my little crisis.

A lot of work to do now to recover data, backups (yes I) and re - install a large number of tools that I use, but all disks are there and it's just a matter of time now.

    All the best

I want to add a fingerprint on my iphone 5s, but I can't. It shows unable to complete Setup touchid please go back and try again. Please help what should I do?

Keep trying. But first, I restart the phone.

To force the reboot your device, press and hold the two buttons of sleep/wake and home for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If she agrees not always the fingerint, reset all settings. No data is affected, but you will have to re-enter all the parameters of the device and the phone will restart on its own. Settings > general > reset > reset all settings.

Always make sure your finger is clean, free of any oily substance and the same goes for the home button on the phone.

Please re - install Windows again. Each facility is 4 hours. Because another install and it took 4 hours and then it restarts and stop at the same error. Now, I'm administrator (locked) - turn off when I pop in the recovery CD. Message: Your account has been disabled. Please, see your system administrator. I tried Safe Mode and loading Windows files stops at crcdisk.sys all the time and then restarts and displays: Windows could not complete installation. Please install again. Can't go in the office. Only restarts with these messages. Asked HP cat (3) Tech people and they do not have the answer. Said, could be a compatibility issue with the software. I ordered this CD of recovery on their part and he got yesterday. Now, they send in the laptop. So tried advice here. Please notify.

I found the answer. HP Tech Support Chat did not know the answer. When you run HP recovery CD, don't hit the restart WINDOWS button when it asks. The software will do it for you automatically. It will take a while (several hours 1-6 hours) to complete. You'll know it's done when WINDOWS ask you information of language, country and keyboard. In other words, don't touch anything once you start the restore CD program. Leave it alone and it will fix it for you. IGNORE the pop-up restart.

I can't believe HP has not even tell me that and 3 chat sessions with them was a waste of time. Last HP person ask me to send in the RECOVERY CD and the laptop.

No help from anyone on this issue. :(

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 of 2007 which came with Vista and has been updated 2 years later at 7 w. I had to reinstall 7 W... 3 or 4 times since 2010. I guess that my machine can't handle W7 very well.

My current problem started with a BSOD problem. After trying some suggestions Internet on how to solve this BSOD problem that did not work, including repair of Windows, I did a data back up mode without failure and then decide to reinstall Windows 7 from the MS CD. My level of understanding is limited, but as noted, I've done this before with success. What I didn't understand is there seems to be another unsolved problem which does not allow the complete reinstallation of windows.

I did a clean install, then a formatting and in both cases, W7 could not complete the installation. It progresses to the final stage of "complete installation" and then there is a second error message 1 that I can't read... "" a problem has been detected... close... "."  It seems to be a reboot loop.

I have since read that the original BSOD problem and the 'detected problem' could also well be linked to the display driver. And this driver it must be disabled before performing a Windows installation. But I'm not able to access Safe Mode or the control panel to turn it off. If this driver is the problem, is there another way to turn it off?

Or are there any other suggestions on how to complete the installation of the operating system?

    • The ColdFusion 64-bit windows setup program stops working after recent microsoft update

ColdFusion 64-bit windows installation stops working after the recent microsoft updates and how I worked around it.

My question is at the end.

Deploying coldfusion 9 enterprise 64-bit on a trial version Windows 2003 64 bit what OS with OS data center all updates from MS (at 07/04/2011).

Measures taken (remember, this is all 64-bit):

      1. the installed the base OS that has been slipstreamed with SP2.

2 checked w / microsoft and 63 OS updates installed.

      3. launch the exe of the trial CF9.

      4. as soon as the first screen (the one that looks like it's the extraction of files) then finished the second screen (the one that says simply SEE Adobe Coldfusion 9) and the progress bar moves quickly 95% to the right and the installation application closes. No error, no nothing. No log file either.

      5. after a moment of silence disbelief (and a new attempt/reboot, etc.), I started to google. I found nothing. However, I found a post (thanks dspent!) which is useful in what he says how he managed to get a log file of all kinds, first extract the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file and launch the adobe_cf.exe by hand.  (Snafu Dspent install was different from mine, but his position has been very valuable and started me in the right direction.)

      6. has obtained a copy of the file rarunzipper and extracted from the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe .

      7. in the windows directory created in step 6, I have launched adobe_cf.exe.

      8. the same thing (, the installation application closes. No error, no nothing. Log file No.).

      9. I look at the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file (where the xxxx is a number).

      10. I see inside this file, a disturbing message: 'a fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime' then ' framework issue ntdll.dll ' , then ' the accident happened outside the Virtual Machine Java to native code ".

      11. OK, now I'm thinking ntdll.dll. Native code! It's like Java tells me that for some reason any, that he can't dance with the operating system.

      12. on a hunch, I decided to test a CF install again on a server with just the installation of SP2 64 W3K3 (ie: skip step 2 above this time).

13 bingo! That the installation works.

      14. as a result, one of the 63 patches that I had downloaded from MS had triggered a problem with Setup see

      15. back on the first server (with MS installed security patches and that CF installs not on). In the adobe_cf.lax of file CF (one of the files extracted in step 6), there is a line that mentions where the installation gets it is java. Find this file, and check java version Installer uses. It is using 1.6.0_14 - b08.

      16. on the way to the Java website, and there is a newer version of java (1.6.0_24 - b07). Downloaded and installed IT.

      17. change a line in adobe_cf.lax :
      front
      lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
      After
      Lax.nl.Current.VM=C:\\Program files\\java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe

(this assumes that you leave step 16 install to the default location)
      Save the file.

      18. run installation ... * IT WORKS ! *

Obviously, the built-in java provided with the installation of the CF program is no longer compatible with some changes introduced by a recent update of MS on SP2 64 b. W2K3 platform

And now comes the interesting part. Although I made the installer to use the new java, it had not incorporated into the generation of CF (ie: in following, you see always c:/coldfusion9/execution/jre AND the java.exe version that is located in this directory is the original version, not the latest version, I forced the installation program to use).

On the surface, CF looks OK, but I did not test any application yet.

      And finally my
      * QUESTION *.
Var java.home would be appropriate just to point to the new java directory? I see that the structure of directories and files are not exactly the same (well close) so I am certainly not break things by doing this, but instinct tells me that if the installer beat using the old version, then something else will bring down the road if I do not use the new version. On the other hand, the differences between files and directories is enough that it makes me very nervous with my skill set java limitied to make that decision.

      Thanks in advance!
      Byron

      Hi Byron,

Wow great post no doubt much of the information will be useful for those who have Win03 SP2 +. Must say not come across the similar problem on Win08 r2 SP1 +.

So, to your question. Adobe (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89440.html) security bulletin recommends to run CF8 and CF9 with JVM 1.6.0_24. The bulletin does not say how to do this. I take you installed the JDK and not only JRE 1.6.0_24? After installation of monitoring JDK as follows:

Stop the CF - stop SERVICES.msc "ColdFusion 9 application server.

Take a copy of CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config - so you have a backup.

Change the line CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config find "java.home =" and comment it for example:

      #java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre

Add the new line like and save next:

      Java.Home = C: / Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_24/jre

Note he slashes and the location of the JRE (runtime): you must point to that of JDK, because the other JRE in C:\Program Files\Java\jre6 will be missing a DLL.

      Start CF via SERVICES.msc.

      HTH, Carl.

      Hi marcus,

      1. What is the full error message that you receive?

      2. have you recently trying to install a program on the computer?

      Method 1

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

      http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

      (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

      (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

      (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

      (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

      Method 2

If the previous step fails, then repair Microsoft office on the computer and check if it works.
