text 3D / Extrusion

I watched many many tutorials on how to create a 3D text but when I do all my 3D menu options are grayed out. Why is this and how can I solve this problem?

3D functionality requires a minimum of 512 MB graphics card, looking at your system information have only 256 MB.

Can someone tell me if Im asking a large part of the PSD?  When I extrude forms in PSD thay still have a surface jagged and wavy, even after making?

    Well thanks for your Suggestions.

    Hi Steve and Noel,.

When Ps generates meshes through extrusion is needs a path closed. So if you have a pixel selection, this is the conversion that the selection of a traced work, (using the tolerance to create a work path) and then generate polygons. If you want better control the amount of points and therefore the topology of face of extrusion and the sweetness, you really want to work with path data prior to extrusion to better predict the results explicitly.

The tolerance of work path also explains why you get multiple lines with a higher resolution document. The work path gets more points with a larger number of image pixel but the same tolerance value.

In the case of single cylinder that you have a shape of ellipse constrainted (not a selection rectangle) tool layer should give you 4 points on the path and a smooth extrusion resulting.

For forms that are more complex (say text based extrusions), image resolution (and font size) will come also into play. The resolution of these as polygons more get generated fewer result faceting on the edge of the 3D profile form.

Resolution of image for 3D layers is generally good about 1-2 K @ 72 dpi (assuming a fairly capable GPU, 1 GB VRAM). More than a few factors come into play, such as the size of the texture map, the document, the processor cores and RAM available bit depth.

I'll see if I can post a few images that show the differences concerning the surface of extrusion with selection vs. shape layer sources.

    Kind regards

    Steve

  • extrusion of text particoular... help me please

Hi all, I was trying to get an effect like this, extrusion is possible?

I'm just able to rotate text in 3d and extrude it without getting this kind of dish/deformed into effect.

It seems simple, but I can't.

    Thank you.

The problem is that I have... a lot of different titles... my hope was to... maintain also if the text had to be changed.

There is no law against the use of more than a drawing of progr. Think "sidegrade competitive."

  • How to adjust the shadow text thickness to match extrusion?

    Hello

I ran a few tests on the classic use 3D and drawn to the radius of the overall 3D features.

Through research, I found a smart workaround (seen here: Re: Shadow Catcher works don't not with the 3D text and camera Tracker ) to maintain the blending modes for the shadows of the extruded text layers.

It worked for me, while the light was at the front of the text.  However, when the light is tilted, it becomes obvious that the thickness of the shadow does not match the lack of extrude 3D text.  (See screenshot)

    3Dtext.JPG

I'm a little puzzled about how to work around this problem.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I guess you have a traditional 3D layer in the position of 'face' of the text that is in the shade.

Duplicate your layer of shadow-casting and ensure that it is casting shadows is set to 'Only', so that the layer is invisible, but the shadow is not.

Then push the new layer in Z space to the rear face of the extruded text.  The combination of the two shadows should now look much more consistent with the extruded text.

You can add several layers 'in between' if the separation of the shadow is too visible.

When I want to extract a text with a stroke, the stroke always disappears. I couldn't find a solution for this online and the manual says that it is possible, but does not explain how. I would be really happy if someone could help me.

The manual says to layer styles and effects on text layers are not rendered by the Ray-traced rendering engine. You should read about the limits of the traced to the 3D renderer here RADIUS: extrusion text and shape layers in After Effects

New 3D extrusion of the selected layer is grayed out for my text layer. I tried making it a form, but still nothing. While browsing the forums, it seems that there could be a plug in need or something extra to have this function work? Or I do something wrong?

Well, check the color Mode of your Document if its value RGB (image-> mode-> RGB)

  • Failed to create a 3D text

I just learn and try to create a 3D text in Photoshop CS6. I have a text, converted into a form & done so that it is in RGB mode, but "New 3D extrusion" is grayed out... After some research autour, I checked the video card on my mac: VRAM (Total): 2048 MB, so this should be a lot right\? What else am I missing? Thank you!

    Thanks for the update.

If there is no 3D under preferences option, this means that you do not have the ability to use 3D in Photoshop CS6.

    Photoshop CS6 doesn't include 3D.

His version of Photoshop CS6 extended which includes 3D.

You may need to go to purchase version Photoshop CS6 extended if you want to use the 3D functionality.

  • Help with Cinema 4 d Lite text object

I'm trying to use Cinema 4 d Lite for the first time, but a large number of options that should be here are not. Under MoGraph, the only thing it is fractured and effector. There are no other options. How can I make it appear? I know it's a light version, but there should be more options (like text object) it.

MoText doesn't even come in the full version of Cinema 4 d If you get the premium version or view it. You need a Broadcast or Studio version to have MoText. Now, you have the option of spline of text (which you can then put into an extrusion object), so you should be able to make a 3d text quite easily without MoText.

    Hi jtwrites,

Please check and confirm the graphics card to your system, because they have at least 512 MB of VRAM for use 3D in Photoshop CC 2015.

You can see the below below for the same.

    System requirements | Photoshop

If the graphics card is compatible, then update the graphic driver from site Web of the manufacture.

In addition, you can try to reset the Photoshop preferences as well. (To re-create the Photoshop preferences files, start the application while pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or command + Option + shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file?")

Let us know if it helps.

  • Chisel of text?

Try to make the text of chisel. I know it can be done with relief, but it uses shading to make look it chiseled. The reason is, it's for a relief map. I gave a try with an inner glow, so it goes black to white, and also not all the way to white to give it an advantage, but is not enough on some parts and too much on others.

    Any suggestion? (CS6)

  • Problem with 'Create new Extrusion of the selected layer' CC 2014

Hello, I am experienced with Photoshop but I'm new to 3D text in Photoshop.  I type the text and convert it to a form.  When I choose to create new Extrusion of the selected layer I get the dialog, I don't see in tutorials.  It says "you are about to create a 3D layer.  You want to switch to the 3D workspace?  Yes/No, do not display again. "Which one should I use for the 3D text?

If I choose Yes, all the panels disappear and the content in the tool options bar (Ribbon?) just under the menu bar disappears.  I have to restart Photoshop to get back on the tool options.  What could I do it wrong?

    Thanks - Dave

I just chose 'No' and don't look at back.  I love my workspace, just as it is and doesn't prefer Photoshop to change for me in this case especially.

You bring up the 3D Panel yourself via the window - 3D.  I think it's a good alternative for the Actions Panel, because I don't have any currently working in the 3D world.

You'll want to see easily if you are working on 3D are 3D Panel and panel properties, among a few others.

Regarding return your workspace as you like it...  Note the small switch near the upper right of the main window of Photoshop.  That can be used to select a workspace.  I suggest that you experiment and familiarize yourself with the concept of workspaces.  You can set your own and save it with a name, and that can really be useful.

  • divide the extrusion - and then change the source (such as the font style)

    Hello

My friend bought the Photoshop CS6 extended and we try to solve something in the 3D environment:

We did an extrusion "divided" on the text so that we can change a few colors on letters to one and rest another color.
Then I thought I want to change the font, then I must be able to change the source.

    1. How can I change source when a text is "split extrusion.

    2. is there a way for me to merge the split one and keep my changes of color on the individual letters? How do then?

    Best regards
    NISSE

Simply, it does not work like that. When you split the extruding you create persistent meshes that can not be edited any more nor the source of the mesh can be changed. You will have to start from scratch.

  • Text (text in 3D) pixelated edges

    Hello world

I see a number of discussions on the subject, but nobody seems to have a resolution that applies to me. I work on a size of 1280 x 720 model, with a bit of text placed above a 3D animation background.

    pixelated text.PNG

The font is Helvetica Condensed Bold

    Ray traced 3D

    depth of extrusion of 12px

Quality of the preview is full.

This happens in EI previews and final output.

No idea what I was dealing with here?

Search in advanced settings in your settings of composition under traced to the rendering section, look for the number of samples. Increase the number of samples to smooth the contours.

Then they are not text layers more. They are regular layers (raster). There is no data left text in the layers for After Effects to recognize. This is why After Effects can not extrude these layers.
