Unable to connect to a wireless router (even with a strong signal)

OK so I have WRT160N (I think version 3) wireless router and my problem is that I can't connect wireless even if the signal is strong...

I bought last month and it works very well at the time, I can connect my laptop and iPhone, PS3, but now I can't connect either one of them.

Try to adjust the settings of the router wireless to... Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...

On the Wireless tab, change the width of the channel to channel 11 and 20 MHz only, provide a unique name in the name box of the wireless network (SSID). In respect of wireless security, check the security key... In the wireless settings advanced... Change the tag to 75 interval, change the Fragmentation threshold to 2304, change the RTS threshold to 2304 and click on save settings... Now let's see if you can locate your wireless network and try to connect...

    Hi Trisha,

Many routers need firmware updates to work with Windows 7. Maybe it's the issue.

    Please answer these questions:

  • Unable to connect to a wireless router with my laptop

I bought a laptop on 12/26/08 and now I have technical difficulties with regard to the internet wirelessly, via the LAN connection it s ok and wireless radar can see all available networks, but cannot communicate with them.

It starts and then say that it s a unverified network and just say connect but don't make any progress, and the internet is still not functional

I m using the router without wire of 7mg eircom and is placed outside the door of the room of my bed with full strength.

It would be interesting to know what laptop you have.

Have you tried to update the driver WLAN? You can find it on the Toshiba site:

Have you tested the connection without security as a hidden SSID, MAC address filtering and so far? Try this.

Recently, I plugged a Linksys E2000 router to connect two computers for internet access. Computer has access. 2nd computer cannot obtain an ip address. using windows xp sp 3. Technical support was no help.

    Hello

As a first step put the computer near the router and start with the security off the coast.
When it works, take it back to the final spot. If it stops then working, then you have a problem of distance.

  • see the ssid but unable to connect to the wireless router

I just installed a WRT160N router, I can see the ssid of the network wireless networks but cannot establish a connection with my laptop windows xp or my wify active blackberry...  Could I connect my mac laptop son with no issues... of ideas?

Thanks for the suggestions, none of them had however.  The solution was to allow the width of the channel must be set to Auto 20 or 40 mhz, selecting only 20 mhz or individually selecting the 40 mhz would not so much my son computer macbook laptop and my IBM thinkpad to connect. But the default configuration which is set would not work. From the manual - yes I have finally checked it...  «Channel width Select Auto if you want that the router to automatically determine the width of the channel proper (20 MHz or 40 MHz) to use, or select 20 MHz only (default) If you want the router to operate Wireless-B and Wireless-G mode only.» For optimal performance, Auto is recommended. »

  • Unable to connect to other wireless networks

RE: Unable to connect to other wireless networks

    • My computer is a HP Pavilion dv7 1232nr Entertainment Center
    • My OS is Windows Vista 64 bit
    • I have installed many things over the past year, but know that at some point, I was able to get on free Wi - Fi in hotels

I am able to connect to my network, but when I try to connect to others, I'm unable to do. I have their password and my computer SHOWS I have a connection, but actually I'm not. When I try to connect to the Internet, the server is not found. I called the support/supplier for the last network owner and he told me that even if I "thought" I was online, I really wasn't. He said that it is probably a router configuration for that person that does not correspond to my computer. As I was just visiting, of course I didn't mess with their router. This happened to me twice, with once the provider is the same as mine, but the only way I could get connected with a hard link.

So far, the only thing I did is to see if I could connect to free wireless (municipal library) and was unsuccessful. I think the problem is with my settings, but am not sure. I have to be careful to change anything because I can't afford to lose my connection at home because my job depends on it.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to share.

  • Unable to connect to my wireless network

I recently discovered that my wifi for vista would not connect to the internet even if the signal is 100% solid.

My wireless House has a WEP encryption and it has already been saved on the laptop but since yesterday it ask me the WEP key when I try to connect it and wouldn't connect even if only the WEP pass has been entered correctly. The message that usually appears at the end is "windows is unable to connect, try the other network", even when I tried my companion's unsecured network.

Here's what I did so far, but without success...

I checked the Wireless driver from Device Manager and it works properly. I even try to update the driver and received a message that the driver is 2-update.

  • Satellite Pro L300-1 b 9 cannot connect to my wireless router

    Hello!

I activated the nw wireless on SAT L300 PRO 1 b 9 - but with a lot of struggle...
First I had to find the switch to turn on (I never got :-)).
Then I had to uninstall Atheros Windows and set flags on (activate) in the Windows driver.

But in Linux and Windows, I couldn't connect to my wireless router.
My luck was that some of my neighbors have a wireless network security-disabled, open, I could map to test.
The test was succecfully with this network, but my wireless router was inaccessible.
The other machine I could reach it.

    The result was:
If I set the router to broadcast the SSID, the two OSs (Ubuntu + Windows) can use the wireless network.

But if I turn off the broadcast (to protect my router), the network driver is unable to use my router, it does not matter I set the SSID...

A router is WRT54G, and he works with other computers if I hide the SSID, but as Satellite Pro L300 unable to connect (with this option).

Someone knows why? What should I do to I could hide the SSID to the bad guys?

    Thanks for any help!

I put t know what Windows operating system you use, but if you use original Vista, I think that, good WLAN driver is part of the package. For the wireless network adapter must be properly installed.

It is not easy to say what the problem is here, but if the laptop can see and detect your WLAN network side laptop computer s everything should be OK. Try to reboot your router and check all the settings.

In my opinion, there is a problem with the WLAN settings.

  • I have a laptop Windows XP and win7, connected via a wireless router.

I have a portable desktop and win7 winXP connected via a wireless router.  Can see the XP machine with the file full access Win 7 but not vice versa.  On XP, clicking on C: of the laptop gives error "C: is not accessible. You have no permissions... "How can I fix it?  As far as I can tell all together relevant upward is correct on Win7.  No password have been set.

    Hello

    Maybe this can help.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Homegroup = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Network of home or work = fundamentally similar (and better) to the previous Working Group sharing methods which allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

To get best results connect to each computer system screen and set all the computers to be on a bearing the same name of Working Group , while each computer has its own unique name.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_name.jpg

Make sure that the software firewall, AV, or other security components allow free local traffic on all network computers. If you use the 3rd group of security, firewall native Vista/XP must be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#trusted
Please Note that some 3rd party software firewall/AV/security costumes continue to block aspects of the Local traffic even it they are off (off).
If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic.

If you end up with the 3rd party software uninstalled or disabled, make sure that Windows native firewall is active .

    -----------------

Network Win 7 with another version of Windows as a work network (works very well if all computers are Win 7 also).

In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.

Choose your network type. Note the check box at the bottom and check/uncheck depending on your needs.

When you have finished the configuration of the system, it is recommended to restart everything the router and all computers involved.

    -------------

If you have permission and security issues with Vista/Win7, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/permission-security.jpg

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . All the users who are allowed to share need to have an account onall computers that they are allowed to connect to.

Everyone is an account, that means a group of all users who already have an account now as users. It is available to avoid the need to configure permission for each on its own, it does not mean all those who feel that they would like to connect.

    Wireless router / Internet problems

I am running Windows Vista Home Edition with Security Essentials.  I can connect to my wireless router, but cannot get internet connectivity via Wireless.  If I connect the cable to the port on the router, I get internet connectivity.  Is there a firewall setting that could cause this problem?

    Hello

Your router could be suspicious here, you have successfully updated its firmware as a possible solution? And I would like to
Update your WiFi drivers on computers. How you are positioned in the router? Are there
    obstacles in the path?

Actually try updating your driver and disabling the network logon.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

You can download several at once however restart after the installation of each of them.

After watching the system manufacturer, you can check the manufacturer of the device an even newer version. (The
manufacturer of system become your backup policies).

Repeat for network (NIC) card and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as Vista like
    updated drivers.

I would also turn off auto update for the drivers. If the updates Windows suggests a just HIDE as they
are almost always old, and you can search drivers manually as needed.
