Unable to ping my Guest OS-Linux - 5.8 (IP/hostname) of Host-OS: win-7

Hi all

I'm using VMWare workstation-8 on my host OS: win - 7 laptop with guest operating system: Linux OEL 5.8. But I can't ping my guest operating system (IP/hostname) of win - 7. I tried with all the bridge, NAT, host only with WMCI (active) options. I'm able to share the Folders (hgfs) between the guest os and host.

I want to access a few Oracle application of middle ware (running on reviews: Linux os) through Win-7 host operating system.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Machine: DELL XPS

SE host: Windows-7 (64-bit)

Guest operating system: Linux OEL 5.8

Thank you

Remy

I changed to the bridge and enable (check) "State of the repeated physical network connection.

Now I am able to ping and access Oracle Applications running on the guest operating system of the host operating system.

Thank you

Remy

    Concerning

I don't understand what you mean with Tunnel of Layer2. Is it relevant to this question?

    IPsec is involved?

Do you have any troubleshooting basic Layer 3? Check the routing information?

    (1) the ASA2 has 2 interfaces, one for each tunnel?

    • ASA2 there transatlantic lines?

      • 10.31.2.80 255.255.255.240 to ASA1
      • 10.31.2.32 to ASA3 255.255.255.240

    (2) ASA2 has only one interface for the two tunnels?

    • You same-security-traffic allow intra-interface?
    • If IPsec is involved, understanding Cryptography ACLs on ASA2
      • 10.31.2.80/28-> 10.31.2.32/28 to ASA3
      • 10.31.2.32/28-> 10.31.2.80/28 to ASA1

The following command will help all three ASAs:

    SH, route

    HS card crypto

SH crypto ipsec his (look for the counters of packets on the SAs)

    @Ariel

Can you ping the guest with other systems (default gateway) on the local network that will accept pings?

Did you install VMware tools on the guest RHEL5?

What kernel are you running?  uname - sr

RHEL5 installation with virtualization installs a kernel Xen, I've seen problems.  According to me, he lifts the bridge of peth0 interface in the configuration as well.  You can try reinstalling RHEL5 with no virtualization and not IPV6 then install VMware tools.

So why you use VMnet1 Host only and does not connect to the physical LAN?  You should use linked by a bridge.

Suggest that read 14 chapters (setting up a virtual network) & 15 (advanced virtual networking) in the user of the workstation manual in order to gain a better understanding of the Virtual Network Infrastructure.

its 32-bit, this means no chance to increase the SGA by increasing the kernel parameters? is this correct?

Oracle on Linux 32-bit can be used up to an LMS (if I remember correctly) 16GB. You start the PAE kernel, and then configure your cache with use_indirect_data_buffers and db_block_buffers. Your pool will always be limited (even once, I forgot the details) to something less than 2 GB.

  • Unable to ping ESXi 5.5 VM workstation 11 comments

    Hey all,.

A lot of research and have not found good results. Currently impossible to ping to my VM ESXi from my Windows 10 laptop that runs 11 workstation.  I installed a custom VMnet (host only) with a specific subnet to the ESXi management interface. I loaded this VMnet even to my ESXi VM settings. I dropped my windows firewall, disabled the anti-virus software, disabled firewall ESXi and reconfigured NIC drivers to vmxnet3 without success. I know the VMnet I created works because I have an XP machine VMnet even we are able to ping successfully between my laptop and the XP VM.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

Fixed with the help of collaborator. I'm all new to VMware and I have a lot to learn.

With the configuration, it is indicated in my previous post, I made the following changes.

Modification of my trade to VLAN ID 0

Configured for vmxnet3 NETWORK interface drivers

I can now my computer vSphere mobile host in my ESXi 5.5 VM guest.

There is really nothing in the ESXi which could prevent pings to a guest VM I think that the most likely reason is that Windows Firewall is still enabled.

What version of Windows do you use and how did you do to try to disable the firewall?

  • Unable to ping Virtual Machines between VMWare

I currently have two VM installed and have two Windows XP.  I can ping the computer host for virtual machines, but I can't use a ping on the other. VM - get "Request timed out".  Two virtual machines are in network NAT configuration.  I also tried to put on a team, but they still cannot ping each other. Did I miss something? - I think that changing the Bridge connections can work, but I think that NAT should also work. - especially when they are in a team.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Make sure that the security/AntiVirus/firewall software does not block ICMP requests and if need be, temporarily disable the firewall/AntiVirus/security software during the test.   Note also that some AntiVirus/firewall/security software fix protocols on the network that are still activated card to temporarily disable the firewall/AntiVirus/security software.

If it does not then need to see output of the ipconfig/all command on the host and the guests.

Copy & paste the following commands, as is, and then press ENTER...

On the host computer in a in a command prompt. (Start > all programs > Accessories > prompt)

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\host_ipconfig.txt"

This will create a file on the desktop of the host named host_ipconfig.txt

On the guests in a command prompt. (Start > all programs > Accessories > prompt)

    ipconfig /all > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\guest_ipconfig.txt"

This will create a file on the client named guest_ipconfig.txt Office

Note: Of course change the name of the guest_ipconfig.txt file to make the difference between the guests.

Archive the files together unreleased and attach the .zip file to a response message.

  • Host Windows 7 - unable to Ping WinPE comments

I installed VMware Server 2 on 64-bit Windows 7 RC1.  I want to use WinPE to a predefined image to an XP machine on the guest virtual machine but it keeps failing.  It seems that comments from WinPE can contact servers and other physical computers on the network (for example, Ping) but these same servers etc could not contact the return in the same way.

I put the bridged networking and the guest operating system is picking up an IP address for the PXE boot and WinPE.  I uninstalled all the programs Microsoft Virtual PC as has been suggested in a post on this site.

Can anyone help at all?  I have searched through the forum, but could not find something that works so far.

Maybe firewall sounds associated with possibly on the host or the guest since WinPE has the default firewall.
