Unidentified PC on my network

I have a PC does appear on my network that I don't recognize.  How can I remove it?  When I click on it all I get is a popup window asking for my log in (which I did of course not because I do not know where the computer came).  Do I have a security problem with my (possibly wireless internet) network which allowed anyone to add their computer and do I have to worry about my files on my computer?  Thank you!

If you have a computer that is not identified on your network, of course, you have a security problem! If you have a wireless network unsecured or using only WEP encryption, that could explain it. This is general information about implementing a secure wireless network. Take a look and if you have not done this way, go into your router configuration utility and remedy the situation.

Have a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Examples given are for a Linksys router. See the manual of your router or the router mftr's Web site. for the parameters by default if you don't have a Linksys. Open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox and in the address bar type:

http://192.168.1.1 [Enter] (it is default IP address of the router, which varies from router to router then check your manual)

This will bring you to the login screen of the router. The default username is blank and the Linksys default password is "admin" without the quotes. Enter this information. You are now in the configuration of the router utility. Your configuration utility may be slightly different from mine. The first thing to do is to change the default password because * all * known default passwords for different routers.

Click the Administration link at the top of the page. Enter your new password. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE. Re-enter the password to confirm it, and then click Save settings at the bottom of the page. The router will reboot and show you the box of connection again. Do not fill in the user name and put it in your new password to enter the configuration utility.

Now, click on the link wireless at the top of the page. Change the network name (SSID) wireless by default to something, you'll recognize. I suggest that my clients not use their surname as the SSID. For example, you might want to name your network wireless network "CastleAnthrax" or similar. ;-)

Click on save settings and when you get the prompt that your changes were successful, click the wireless security link which is just beside the Basic Wireless Settings link (where you changed your SSID). Most computers purchased during the last 4 years have the wireless hardware that will support WPA2-Personal (also known as WPA2-PSK). This is the desired encryption level. If your wireless hardware is older, use WPA. Don't use WEP, because who is easily broken within minutes. So go ahead and set the Security Mode WPA2-Personal. Do this and enter a password. For example, you could use the password ' here be dragons, beware you scurvy dogs! The password is what you enter on all computers that are allowed to connect to the wireless network. MAKE A NOTE SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WILL NOT LOSE.

At this point, your router is set up and if the computer that you use to configure the router will normally connect wireless, disconnect the ethernet cable and wireless of the computer should see your new network. Enter the password that you have created (exactly as you wrote it with all capital letters and punctuation) to join the network and start surfing.

    Hello

The unidentified network problem may be related to different causes, and therefore different workaround solutions may be possible.
First of all I recommend you to uninstall the network adapter driver.
This can be done in the Device Manager. After the driver has been removed, restart the laptop and install the network driver that you can download on the page of the Toshiba driver.

2nd solution: reset the reset TCP/IP protocol

  • Received a warning to unidentified on the network computer. Under the status of the network looked up and saw a computer I don't know anything. What is - this and how?

Original title: computer not identified on the network

Received a warning to unidentified on the network computer. Under the status of the network looked up and saw a computer I know nothing on my network. What is - this and what that can do. ?

Implement the security of your network... How to do depends on details. If your network is at home on a wifi router, and then implement WPA2, which will prevent unauthorized as well as encryption of your data access.  Follow these steps on the router itself (once again the details depend on your situation.)

While I'd love to implement WPA2, WPA2 will not accept my network and I am limited to WPA.  My point is that if it is a wireless intrusion (we don't even know if it's wireless at this point), then the security settings on the router must first be discussed with the manufacturer ISP or router so that they are appropriate for devices and services and programs.

It could also be a USB transmitter attached to the computer.  It might be the malicious program or a problem with the firewall or a real hack of the computer through the firewall or caused by malicious software (even if you use cables or wireless).  It could be the entire network (but the number of computers which implies) or only this one computer.  It could also be a system service using the network and not really another computer in itself (in office what he says and where - some may be difficult to recognize and interpreted as another computer).  There are many possibilities.  We do not know what the warning generation program or what he says.  More information is needed.  I would also like to work on it - and it can follow to her new home.

I have laptop HP Pavilion running Vista.  When you try to connect wirelessly I get the unidentified network error.  The other two laptops at home can connect to radio very well, so there is no problem with the router wireless or SPrint aircard.  I finished everything I could find on the internet about this error - without success.  I spent more than 4 hours with the help of HP, more recently, they had me do a "recovery" to set all hardware and software to the factory settings.  Still no luck.  This computer can connect very well with an ethernet cable.  I can connect wirelessly, but can not go on the internet.  Any ideas?  If so, I don't know much about computers... simple steps would be appreciated.

    Hello

I have an Acer Aspire M1610 running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 and 2 days ago when I turned it on the internet was not working and it says unidentified network Local access only. I use a wired Ethernet connection. I don't know how it happened as before I had used the computer as usual and the Internet worked very well. I did a lot of research and read a few forum posts about this problem and tried a few solutions but non of them worked. I tried the following:
    (1) disable my firewall and anti-virus who didn't work, I turned their back on immediately.

    2) press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run a command as administrator prompt.  Allow the elevation.

Type route delete 0.0.0.0 press ENTER.

    Type ipconfig/flushdns press enter

    Restart your computer.

    (3) the internet protocol version 6 clear, disable and enable the thing

    (4) if same Norton software removal tool I had uninstalled the when I got the computer I read that uninstall it by using uninstall windows is not entirely remove it.

    (5) another thing in the command prompt I don't remember exactly what it was, and I can't find the site Web is because I looked so much of.

    (6) I even reset my computer to factory settings and then uninstalled all unnecessary software and trials that come with and used the software again Norton removal tool.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any response will be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I get unidentified network settings stick, private and change its name?

I use Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on my computer at home, because my Internet is wireless usb (AT & T Quicksilver) device that can be plugged directly into my router (Linksys WRT110).  Given that the router accepts only as an internet connection ethernet cables, instead I use my desktop computer as the connection (ICS) and using the router only as a hub, essentially.

Everything is working well at the moment.  The Office will connect to the internet and other computers and devices connected to the router (wired and wireless) are all works well and can share the internet connection.

But whenever I restart the desktop computer, the default network is "unidentified network" and as a type of 'Public' without discovery service.  So every time I go to network settings and make it private.  It works fine until the next reboot.  In addition, I am not able to change the network name.  The field seems open for entry, but selecting and typing does nothing.

I don't know if it's relevant, but other devices to connect to the network are laptops (of various working groups, need to be since they are mainly used to work) and a DirecTV DVR, using Mediashare (via Windows Media Server).  Yet once, they all work, after doing the private network, but this is lost at every restart of the desktop computer.

I wish I could have it be a private network that is identified by a name and keep these parameters at each reboot.  But I have yet to find an online solution that worked for me.

    Matt,

Thank you very much.  It worked like a charm.  I was pulling my hair out on this one for a few months.  Once again, a big thank you!

For anyone else trying to solve the same problem, here is the summary of the solution.

I have already had no default gateway specified.  As advised by Matt, I right click on the Local network connection (in network and sharing Center / manage network connections) and went in the IPV4 properties and put in the address of a default gateway (equal to the IP address of my router/hub).  I left the ICS settings and all the way IP addresses which I had them before (with zero in the third byte of the IP address of all and ICS turned on).  I have no registry changes.  The only change is the default gateway.  After this change, a wizard appears to allow me to set up the network properly.  And I could rename and define the private network.  And the changes were intact after several reboots.  Perfect.
