uninstall Norton Security software preloaded Windows 8 on a HP Pavilion g7

I want to install a different internet security software that delivered Norton software pre-loaded on my HP Pavilion g7.

This can be done until the Norton software is removed.  Norton Uninstall from the control panel doesn't do the trick (not sure if the Norton software was activated because although Norton is listed in the Control Panel, the file size of the software is not listed, attempts to uninstall here are unsuccessful but can be remove list i).

I see a software Norton Internet security folder in Program Files (x 86) and when I try to remove this folder from a pop up window and informs me that "file or the file is open in another program-closing of folder/file and try again."

And here I am stuck.  Where should I go from here?  Anyone?  Thank you in advance for thinking about my question.

    f. type net user administrator and then press ENTER.

Note: Please replace the tag with a password that you want to set for the administrator account.

Step 2: To change the account to an administrator account, please follow these steps:

    b. on the desktop, press the Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

Step 3: disable the built-in Administrator account.

    a. in the built-in Administrator account, press the Windows key + X and click on (Admin) command prompt.

    b. type net user administrator / active: No.and then press ENTER.

    c. restart the computer and check if the problem is resolved.

  • security software

I recently installed on a pc, but slowed down right itthen (CPY operating at 100%). I've looked in Task Manager and found most of the usage was mcafee so I removed it - no change. Since then, I have removed the hard drive and reformatted in another PC. Reinstalled windows 7 and now cannot install mcafee or AVG free - CPU now at 1-2%

You can simply use the built in security software in Windows 7. It is just as capable as 3rd party products.

Don't forget computer practice course... which goes much further in you protecting only a 3rd party product.

    Away from questionable sites.

Do not click on links in emails.

Using a browser that will allow you to turn off Flash and JavaScript.

  • Preloaded Norton Internet Security 2011 crashes Windows 7

My 6620 Pavilion came preloaded with Norton Internet Security 2011 - who works in isolation, but causes of the accidents and crashes when any other software infringes on its ares of operation. It is not always clear what are these competing programs.  For a while, something was inviting Norton to run "Background Operations" almost continuously and at intensities higher until the CPU would be muffled and the machine refused to respond to anything.

I see it now.   Model came out about 1 year - guess it was late at night the day Expert when I was looking for this upward and I was a little bleary - eyed.   I guess it's the old stock or device refurbished if you have only had it for 3 weeks.

I did not talk about the problems that would cause Norton to crash the system as you said.   If the system stay up long enough - I would try a number of things.

First - go to Control Panel / programs and uninstall Norton.   Get Windows 7 running stable, maybe run Microsoft Windows Update, get the latest updates on.   Then go to the folder start/programs/recovery manager to launch the Recovery Manager to do a reinstall of the software program - Symantec Norton Internet Security should be one of the options.  Choose an application recovery - and you'll find Norton.

Norton package still has a 60-day subscription to when you installed first, however.

You could opt to use a different antivirus package if you wish.  For most of my friends and family think I help set their PCs for - I usually opt to accompany Security Essentials Microsoft, especially since it's free - but it seems to work pretty well.   You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials if you are interested.

  • If you have firewall and windows defender, do you really need another security software?

If you have firewall and windows defender, do you really need another security software?

I have no other security software

    Norton internet security becomes awkward

    Peter

    Hello

Yes you still need an antivirus program and you are right that Norton tends to cause problems.

    Norton Removal Tool
    http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

You want to remove Norton and old and even uninstalled antivirus can leave remnants then download and run
the Norton Removal Tool. Also, I would get Avast and Prevx and you should be in good shape.

Download the 3 to get back to after removing the McAfee antivirus.

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT after each.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    Here is what I use:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

    Windows Defender

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    I hope this helps.
