  • HP support assistant - will launch or uninstall properly - Windows 7 Pro SP1

RE: Cannot run, HP Support Assistant can not even uninstall properly.

Have my office since 2010.  HP Support Assistant has still works perfectly.  Now when I try to run HP Support Assistant, it does not start, returning the message "an unhandled exception ('System.TypeInitializationException') occurred in HPSF.exe [6264].»

In response, I downloaded the latest version of HP Support Assistant HP website and tried to install it.  There was a problem and he asked me if I wanted to try an install using recommended settings.  I said yes, but no completion message was never presented.

Thus, by the HP troubleshooting suggestions I tried to uninstall HP Support Assistant using the dialog box uninstall Windows standard.  But, also, the operation failed with the message "Error 1316 network error occurred trying to read from C:\Windows\Installer\HP support Assistant.msi".

I tried again to install the latest version of HP Support Assistant, but once the installation wizard has started the only message he introduced the question of if I wanted to replace the existing files.  I said yes, the wizard appeared to move forward, but no completion message was never presented.

Another attempt with the dialog box uninstall Windows failed once again with the same error 1316 as before.

    So I'm puzzled.  Suggestions?

  • Quicken uninstalled after Windows Update

After running Windows Update and install the updates, I discovered that Quicken software I had installed and used on my PC has been uninstalled.

My OS is Windows Vista Premium
After installing updates with Windows Update I couldn't see Quicken to control panel > programs
    The Quicken desktop icon disappeared
Quicken has been removed from the start menu
My Quicken data and some (but not all) of the program (x 86) files \Quicken files were still intact

I installed 15 updated 11/1 and 17 updates 31/10. Many have been associated with MS Office, but a few were related to Windows Vista.

Is this behavior (Programs uninstall) a bug in Windows Update?

I would like to avoid that from happening. Any suggestions on how to prevent?

    Hi sshostek,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.

This behavior is not a bug in Windows Update.

Download Quicken manually and install it.

To avoid this kind of behavior try to install the updates in clean boot mode.

Follow the steps to enter boot mode:

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the Load Startup items check box.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. try to update your computer now.

    Hope this information is useful.

Let me know if it worked.

  • How do I uninstall macafee, windows 8 with touch screen, can not find it on 'start' menu tiles

I was told I had to download adobe to look at a document, Macafee crawled with it. I have a laptop HP with Windows 8 and touchscreen. the closest thing I find a start menu is tiles, and there is no way to uninstall McAfee from this screen - it's not even a tile of macafee. But in any case I found the icon, if I click right, hold left click, or whatever it is, there is no option to uninstall

and I can't find "my computer".

    Help! Thank you very much

    Hello Elle3000,

On the start screen for Windows 8 If you just start typing control anywhere on the screen, you will find the control panel option appears in the results of research on the right of the screen.

On the desktop, if you right click on the Start button (windows low icon to the left of the screen), you should get a menu drop-down. You will find the Control Panel on this menu.

  • How do uninstall you windows xp edition that has been installed on xp pro media center?

I want to uninstall windows xp media center edition because I think it's slowing down my computer and the computer unable to multitask. It was installed on xp pro. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi KirkStratton,

You cannot uninstall Windows Media Center, it is an integral part of the operating system. You can stop the process of Media Center to run. After you have upgraded in the only way that you could go back to the previous version of Windows would be to perform a clean installation.

    Follow these steps:

    (a) open the menu 'Start', then click on 'Control Panel'.

    (b) click on add or remove programs. Click on "access to default values and selection programs."

    (c) click on 'continue' and check the "Custom" in the menu drop-down box.

    (d) scroll down to the "Choose default Media Player" section.

    (e) uncheck the box that says "enable access to this program" next to 'Windows Media Center'. Click OK.

  • Uninstall/remove Windows Messenger will adversely affect my system?

Just this evening, the Windows Messenger icon begins to appear in my taskbar to a red x and a pop-up stating something to the effect that Windows Messenger is not connected... or something... As much as I know, I use all of the features that relate to the Messenger and no recent updates have been installed. I've disabled at startup and I would like to know if uninstall or remove this will affect my system.

Another thing... I noticed that since I turned off Windows Messenger my system speed has improved considerably, especially while browsing online. Messenger just seemed to appear from nowhere and she is my online activities.

In addition, once you have sauvegardeent patches, you can use CCleaner to delete:

    CCleaner

CCleaner is a powerful utility for cleaning of temporary files and caches; There's also a section to start to control what programs start when you start Windows (although I use of Windows Sysinternals Autoruns).

I don't recommend that you use the registry cleaning section of CCleaner or any registry cleaning program (free or commercial) in all circumstances; in my opinion, they are a (serious) problem ticking.
