Unreadable discs

We install a new AX4 - 5i which will be connected to a server on Win2003 SP2 x 64 edition. The connection is via a QLogic QLE4060C; the firmware version is 3.0.1.33 and driver is 2.1.4.19 (STOR wx64) who are both present.

The storage unit has installed the following readers:

0 - 3: 133 GB SAS disks

11: 268 4 GB SAS drives

The problem we have is that all the disks virtual, built on pools of individuals appear in Windows as "unreadable". The crazy part is that the problem seems to occur only with discs virtual, built on the pairs in car pools.

To see why I say that here's the configurations that I tried.

Config #1

Disk pool 1: discs of 6, 7, 8; RAID 5; 1 virtual disk

Disk pool 2: records of 9, 10, 11; RAID 5; 1 virtual disk

Cluster of 3 disks: disks 0, 1; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

4 disk pool: 2 disks, 3; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

RAID 5 disk pool: 4 discs, 5; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

Result: The disks on the 2 pools and 4 appeared in Windows as "unreadable".

Config #2

Disk pool 1: discs of 6, 8, 10; RAID 5; 1 virtual disk

Disk pool 2: records of 7, 9, 11; RAID 5; 1 virtual disk

Disk pool 3: 0 records, 2; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

Disk pool 4: disc 1, 3; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

RAID 5 disk pool: 4 discs, 5; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

Result: The disks on the 2 pools and 4 appeared in Windows as "unreadable".

After seeing the alert about our lack of a hot backup disk I assigned drive 11 as the backup to hot and tried something new.

Config #3

Disk pool 1: records of 6-10; RAID 5; 4 virtual disks

Disk pool 2: records of 0-3. RAID 1/0; 4 virtual disks

RAID 5 disk pool: 4 discs, 5; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

Result: The disks on hen 2 all appeared in Windows like "unreadable".

Subsequently, I deleted and recreated the pool 2 with the following configs:

Disks 0-3; RAID 5; 4 virtual disks

Disks 0-2; RAID 5; 4 virtual disks

The results were the same: all four disks in the pool were "Illegible" by Windows every time.

This is where I am currently:

Disk pool 1: records of 6-10; RAID 5; 4 virtual disks

Disk pool 2: disks 0, 1; RAID 1/0; 3 virtual drives

Disk pool 3: 2 disks, 3; RAID 1/0; 3 virtual drives

RAID 5 disk pool: 4 discs, 5; RAID 1/0; 1 virtual disk

Result: The disks on pool 2 will appear in windows like "unreadable".

There seems to be problems everywhere-the storage unit shows all alerts and the HBA is grateful all LUNS correctly. Is there a reason that a specific pool would cause problems with Windows being able to read the associated virtual disks?

Thanks for any help on this. :)

  • Copying files between hard drives problem

    Hello

I have problems copying files between hard drives on my computer. I was having this problem on Windows 7 and Windows Vista, but never met him on XP.  It seems that there are several similar topics, but I think I've noticed a few oddities in my own experience...

I have several drives, between 500 GB ~ 1 TB.  Problems arise when I try to copy a folder with a large number of files (pictures, records about 4 GB in size, typically).  Initially, the transfer rate would be HD burst speed, somewhere between 90 MB to 150 MB.  Speed would be reduced to about 30 MB, or even lower.  The transfer ends by becomes so slow that the operation would take hours to complete.  If I try to cancel, it would take minutes to do.  The computer run slowly for a long period of time, with an offset of intermittent until I have to reboot the system.  This occurs regardless the source and destination drives.

On some Samsung drives, this problem is actually lead to the corruption of data on the source and destination drives and i/o error messages.  CHKDSK runs at startup, try to solve the problem, but the data would be lost or unreadable disc.  I have since thrown the Samsung WD drives, do not have IO error, but the file copy problem persists.  I also disabled chkdsk at startup for all readers.

My drivers and Bios are up-to-date.  Computer is free of viruses and malware.  I have no more trouble with Windows 7.  Curiously, if I compress my folders/files in one RAR file, I have no problems copying (transfer rate remains stable at 30 ~ 50MB).  This leads me to believe that this is not a hardware problem, but a problem with the Explorer of solutions, and that respect more particularly with the number of files transferred rather than size.  (But unpacking these files also lead to poor performance sometimes...)

Is this a known issue that will be corrected?  I really like Win7, but because I work with large number of files and many backups all the time, stability during the file copying is a must.  I have perhaps to go back to XP, or use another OS entirely...

    I had the same problem;

I was getting speeds of transfer of a maximum of 500 / 600 KB/s between the hard drive and network storage drive. I went through a number of * fixed * on the web without success, however, I disabled "TCP AutoTuning" and "RSS" rebooted and voila, I now get speeds of transfer of 9-10 MB / s and from the network drive.

    The fix
It should be noted that, in addition to this, I have updated to the latest updates for Windows and off the DRC in the Windows Options under programs/features.

How to disable TCP AutoTuning and receive scalability side

    1. Open a prompt with administrator rights.
    2. Type the following commands, and press enter (the second command on RSS is optional):

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel = disabled
netsh interface tcp set global rss = off

    3. Restart the computer.

  • How to burn a DVD in first Elements 8 to play on the DVD recorder.

I use first Elements 8 with Windows 7, i760 quad core and 8 GB RAM. When I burn a project to a disc, it will play on this PC, but the drive is not recognized on my XP PC, or my DVD burner. My guess is that I burn like a HD DVD but can't see any way to change this. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Geoff, I think you're chasing the wrong questions. The less likely it's Premiere Elements is the production of unreadable discs.

Did burn you your DVD files to a folder on a hard drive, rather than directly on a disc?

Have you tried to use DVD-r or DVD + r instead of DVD - RW (which cannot read many DVD players)?

Your source files - no matter where they come from - has no effect in your DVD playback. Once it has been converted, it is a matter of your disk drive, playback of your disc. If that is not the case, you must troubleshoot if this problem is a problem with the discs themselves, a problem with your DVD drive, or a problem or a problem with your burner.

Combustion in a folder on your hard drive will eliminate the Premiere Elements as the cause of the problem. If the program can produce a VIDEO_TS folder full of VOB files, then you know that the problem is in your disks or your hardware.

A CD to use in an Audio CD drive must be formatted as an Audio CD.

Finder cannot create an audio CD, instead, it creates a data CD.

Therefore, use iTunes to create create an Audio CD.

  • Whenever I put a disk in it says the disc is unreadable.

    Original title: hard drive problems

I had a problem with my hard drive. Whenever I put a disk in it says the disc is unreadable. I know that's not true because the dvd works fine on my xbox.

the player starts when I put the disc in, clicks several times and stops running. Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi Peteclay,

Usually this is due because of hardware or software related issues. I would like to know some information about this problem so that we can help you further.

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

2 is it limited to any specific DVD or with all DVDs?

    3. do you get any error code or error message?

    4. What is the number of brand and model of the computer?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it works for you.

    Method 1:

Run the fixit from Microsoft Fixit article and if that helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

    Method 2:

Try to install the latest drivers from the website of the manufacturer of the computer or from Windows Update and check if the problem persists.

See the following Microsoft Help article to update the driver.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Update-driver-hardware-ISN

If the question is limited to any specific CD/DVD, then it would be best to contact the material or the game Support for more help on this issue. This could be the problem with the CD/DVD or because of the material.

Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can better help you.

Hello - any CD or DVD I insert in the drive cannot be read. The computer says there is nothing on the disc. I have an i/o Magic 22 x DVD internal /, product id #IDVD22DLS that I bought about 2 years ago. I ran fixit from Microsoft, but it says the drive is empty or the media size is not supported. I had a disc in the drive and it worked for nearly two years. Can someone tell me what's happened and how to fix? I'm not too technically savy, but were able to follow the instructions to solve problems with my computer. Thank YOU, millcul.

Access the manufacturer's Web site and see if there is an update of the firmware.

  • Why the my Microsoft Discs are unreadable

Microsoft Home & Student (had for years) gave no problem 6 weeks when I loaded it on my second computer.

Windows 7, last used September 2014 to clean instal gave me no problem on my main computer

Microsoft Home & Business 13 retail loaded on the main computer very well. I had problems with Outlook (see previous post) so I uninstalled with Revo Pro. When I try to load it on it ejects and tells me to insert a disc.

This happens with all 3 drives. Music disks without problem and I am able to load MYOB on no problem.

I ran Microsoft Fixit OPEN THE PLAYING AND BURNING CD, DVD AND BLU - RAY DISCS to the resolution of the PROBLEMS.

Everything passes the test except a question "Media in the CD/DVD drive is not readable (HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GH24NS95 ATA DEVICE).

"The drive is empty or the media format is not supported".

Someone at - it ideas as to why this happens only with discs from Microsoft and how I can solve this problem.

I will try my second computer now to see if the same thing happens with her.

As I suspected the discs work very well in my second computer.

As the discs work well in the second computer, this clearly means that the issue is not with the discs.

The question is very likely to be caused by the following reasons:

    1. the optical laser lens is covered in dust.

    3. the SATA cable may be damaged.

    2. There is a problem with the optical drive.

    Possible solutions are:

    1. try to clean the laser lens of the optical drive via a suitable lens cleaner disc. Do not try to open the disc physically and clean yourself. This will damage the lens forever.

2 try replacing the SATA cable, then check.

    3. replace the optical drive.

  • Opening of unreadable code files need urgent help please

When I got my new laptop Toshiba as a gift in 2007 Microsoft Office Word and Excel etc were already set up so I don't have disks or keycodes. . An old person, it is also possible that my son who gifted it me may have installed above records to settle, but he has no recollection of this, except that he gave me the Toshiba Recovery Disc I have.

My laptop had to go back to Toshiba for a long time for a manufacturing - related issue. They also informed me that some of my files were corrupt. All the features have remained on my computer as before repair, so nothing has been lost or had to be re-load.

I found that since then all my docs are open in code form and are unreadable. Microsoft Word seems to have disappeared and I had to install an old Microsoft Works 2001 drive in order to work on new material. Microsoft Onenote was the disk, but not the word, if the docs will not open with Onenote, so I'm stuck.

Is it possible for me to know if Toshiba can contain my original Microsoft Office key code and I was able to download again. ? I can't afford to buy a completely new desktop system and I have no way of knowing which Microsoft Office (2007)? creating documents. I have to know if there is any way I can read these documents and to establish which of the two may be corrupted so that I can remove them. A system restore would make readable documents? I'm not very technical minded with regard to computers that you can observe my text and will appreciate any help you can give I can't afford to pay someone who keeps my computer for a day or more and then charge me an exorbitant amount.
Thank you very much in advance if you can help me in any way with easy to follow instructions or advice.

What is the model number of your laptop?

A trial version of MS Office may have been pre-installed. If you have activated Office (purchased a license), then you could try to call Microsoft to reactivate.

If you reinstall Windows using your Toshiba recovery disc, the installation of Office must be installed. (Note that the restore disk will delete your data, back up your files first).

Alternatively, you can use OpenOffice to read your documents. OpenOffice (free) works with Microsoft Office files.

    Hello, Jeff

At first, I must say that it is not toshiba Help Center, but user forum created by Toshiba, so if you wait for the response from Toshiba people here you are in the wrong place.
In any case, in this forum, you can pick up some very useful information and a lot of people here can help you with your problems.

    Return to described the issue.
Unfortunately you do not understand how it works with the product key and Windows Setup, so I'll try to help you with this.
Each computer toshiba laptop comes with preinstalled operating system (recovery image) and the product key at the bottom of your laptop belongs to this version. With other words: when you buy the new laptop, you have to pay for hardware, operating system and a license for this preinstalled OS. Product key at the bottom is not a kind of universal product key and cannot be used for activation of another version of Windows.

You can use the delivered Toshiba recovery disc that contains mage replicated several times and each time you will have activated the operating system. When you use the Microsoft disk for the installation of the OS you must have valid product key which belongs to this particular version.

In your case product key is for Vista, and you cannot use it for Win7 activation. This product key is... unnecessary.

If you have any other questions you are welcome.

  • How can I encrypt a drive where cs diskutil convert reports 'a problem', let the unreadable disk?

I try to encrypt my Time Machine backup volume, but diskutil refuses and leaves the disc unreadable (but fixable using Linux).  How can I proceed?

It is a disc of TB USB3 Western Digital Elements 107 3.

It has one HFS partition + and works very well.

diskutil verifyDisk and diskutil verifyVolume don't report any problems.  I also used Alsoft DiskWarrior to repair inconsistencies, without problems.

If I try to convert the volume, diskutil report 'a problem', like this:

        rb@Silverbird$ /usr/sbin/diskutil cs convert /Volumes/RB3TB1/
Started CoreStorage operation on disk4s2 RB3TB1
Resizing disk to fit Core Storage headers
Creating Core Storage Logical Volume Group
        Attempting to unmount disk4s2
        Switching disk4s2 to Core Storage
Waiting for Logical Volume to appear
        Mounting Logical Volume
A problem occurred; undoing all changes
Switching partition from Core Storage type to original type
Undoing creation of Logical Volume Group
Reclaiming space formerly used by Core Storage metadata
        Error: -69842: Couldn't mount disk

This leaves the unreadable disk.  diskutil cs list shows the drive as a basic storage volume that is "online" and "reversible" but it may not be mounted or acted on, nor can the physical volume of the parent.  Disk utility crashes at startup when the drive is connected.  diskutil repairDisk on volume of parent reports:

Repairing the partition map might erase disk4s1, proceed? (y/N) y
Started partition map repair on disk4
        Checking prerequisites
Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map
Error: -69808: Some information was unavailable during an internal lookup

In fact, all access to the disc seems to be broken at this point.

        rb@Silverbird$ sudo /usr/sbin/gpt show /dev/disk4
gpt show: unable to open device '/dev/disk4': Input/output error

You cannot read the device using hexdump.  The kernel seems mightily confused.

I was able to recover the disc mounting Linux using the utility 'gdisk' to change the partition type to AF02 (storage of carrots) to AF00 (HFS +).  After that, diskutil checks the disk so the volume as OK.

I think that Apple has a bug where diskutil fails to return the partition type.

But this me no bugs more closely to encrypt my backup volume.

Anyone have any idea what might be the 'problem' and how do I proceed?

  • HP mini 110 cannot use recovery discs - BIOS insists the hard drive test failed. Drive works on another computer.

My niece has a HP mini 110 that does not have a day. Do a check of the hard drive in the bios, it failed (7 on playback). I though I should get a new one so I ordered another. While waiting for that to happen, I had access to a usb SATA bridge and the opperating system was beyond repair and the unreadable disk from HP mini, I decided to try to repair the disk. So I reformatted the old disk using my desktop computer. Windows had no problem with the drive and it seems to work very well.

I also had to order the recovery disks (intro to windows 7).

In any case try to reinstall using the recovery via the DVD USB drive disks. It kept coming back with error 17 - I found a hard drive error. I also tried to install with a Windows XP installation disc and it was more explicit hard drive it said it had NOT installed it - or "it does not match the sheet material for unity" (or words to that effect)

To get the new hard drive - the same problem. Even if both of these drives operate as USB connected to my main desktop drives. SO my conclusion is that the BIOS start inspect the hard drive, check the configuration of the formatting. that is the size and the partitions etc. and when they do not correspond to the idea of BIOS of good care he rejects the hard drive and finds it is not installed.  Or maybe to do some files on the hard drive of base. Whatever it is, the bios concludes that there is no hard drive and will always return a "failed" to the hard drive of the bios test.

Any ideas on that? I need to know exactly which partitions are expected by the bios. Does anyone have these specs, or maybe you have a mini HP and can examine your hard disk and tell me the amounts of partition and the size?

Unless I can get the bios to recognize the hard drive, I don't see how I can reinstall the operating system on it. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    HI David

Well, I hope this is my last post here. I had already printed a return address for the recovery disks, being returned to the Netherlands. Just for the beggar of cast iron, however, I decided to try just once more would like to think that now that there is a kind of operating system on the hard drive it might work. But unfortunately still; no joy.

All this time I would be considered may not be something wrong with the external hard drive because it was no problem to start the installation of XP. So I was just wondering maybe it does not receive enough power (it is a slimline portable DVD player that gets its power from a second usb) so I made a DVD player external adhock using an IDE hard drive enclosure (which has its own power supply and an old internal DVD burner I had put aside.

To my surprise and joy; the HP mini started the recovery process. I am now watching reformat the windows partition and copy the files needed to restore the hard disk.

So anyone with a similar problem to the HP mini not recognize the recovery disks is my advice; try an another external DVD drive, preferably one with its own supply of.

Thanks for all your help and patience David.
