Update problem with McAfee security

This morning, Adobe reader had an upgrade that I downloaded.  However, the download also included installation of McAfee security, I don't want to and don't use - my Norton installation it messes up.  How do upgrades without the McAfee - it's really hard to get rid of McAfee!

  • Restart after that a windows update problem with VirusScan from McAfee (total Protection)

    I'm under 64-bit Windows VISTA Home Premium SP 1 on a Dell Studio 540 desktop.  8.0 GB RAM.  Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 CPU @ 2 .66GHz.
Late last night, I started the PC to go online.  Shortly after, I was invited by Windows update to restart.  So I closed off everything and rebooted, except that I kept scheduled analysis of McAfee, which I set up for Fridays.  I have McAfee Total Protection, which includes VirusScan.  That the PC would shut down, there was a message on the screen of McAfee who said, essentially, stop this scan before restarting.  I'm paraphrasing - I didn't write down the exact message.  After reboot, I started again the background anti-virus scanning.  After a few minutes, I received the following message:
    Microsoft Windows
Order McAfee VirusScan Scan - Are asked to work and was closed. A problem with the application to stop functioning properly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.
I have not received a solution of Windows.  I completely uninstalled McAfee Total Protection, following the instructions of McAfee, then reinstalled.  Everything went very well with these processes.  I have yet to receive an indication of the McAfee software that something is wrong.  After the reinstallation, I tried a scan, but got the same error message as above after a few minutes.  It does not occur immediately, analysis continues for about 5 minutes, then abandoned.
Chatted with Dell today.  They suggested a system restore, I will try then.

    What updates have been installed?

During certain infections that are designed to defeat security software will cause the bomb on analyses with an error.

  • Problem with the security sysytems update KB3110329 for Windows 7 64 x-based

Microsoft is aware of this problem with security update KB3110329 for Windows 7 x 64 systems? Have they fixed it? Thanks to John Butler to isolate the problem of configuration updates from January 12, 2016.

    Bill Blair

    Dear Jayant Gupta,

Thank you for your response. When I tried to install the updates from 12 January 2016 on my Windows 7 computer, I met a problem at the stage where I have to shut down the computer to complete the process. When configuring updates, he remained at 12% for a very long time and then permanently returned to the opening of session and when I checked the history update based on the x 64 updates eleven have been identified as having failed.

I ran to the resolution of the problems of Windows Update. I did not try to reset the Windows Update components for fear of making things worse. I see at least another user, John Butler, has encountered the same problem and he identified the update of security KB3110329 as the cause of the problem of configuration.

Later, I downloaded the updates again and hid and then successfully installed their KB3110329 leaving unchecked everything.

Currently, I have hidden KB3110329 and wait for the opinion of its repair.

    Thank you for your help.

  • "You must be logged in as an administrator to install this program" error when I AM logged on as administrator. possible problem with TrustedInstaller security

I am logged in as administrator on the single computer.  I try to install Net Nanny, which claims to be compatible Windows 7.
The first time I tried to install it I got the error, simply, 'access denied '.  After several attempts with the same error, I rebooted in Mode safe mode with network and then got the error that the Windows Installer Service is not accessible.  After some research, I discovered that Windows Installer is not available in safe mode.
So I booted in Normal mode.  Logged as administrator.  Tried to click with the right button on the installer downloaded for Net Nanny and ran as administrator, the connection of the administrator.  Now I get the error, "You must be logged in as administrator to install this program."  I am.
I closed all firewalls, anti-virus software AND turn off the UAC.  I checked the compatibility AND security for the download tab and it is configured to run as administrator and I tried to run in several modes of compatibility.  I still don't "You must be logged in as administrator to install this program."  No matter what I try, I still get this error.
I used the command prompt, type msiexec.exe / unregister, and then msiexec/regserver.  No new results.  Still the same error.

I called Net Nanny press SEVERAL times and they will know that this is a Windows problem, because this is the first time that they already got this error.  They had me to download another file on a mirror site.  Not always the same error.  People what I'm doing wrong?  I was able to successfully install other software.  Thanks for any help!

UPDATE * I am researching always this.  This would be a TrustedInstaller security problem?  If this is the case, is it possible to fix the TrustedInstaller or turn it off?  The big question, is that I want to turn it off?  My first thought is 'no '.  However, this software is listed on the Microsoft site as being compatible with Windows 7.  Therefore, an application that is 3rd party that is accepted by Microsoft.  Wow, I'm confused.  Don't know what to do here.

    Hello carpetfresh,

A test, I temporarily disable user account control and then see if you can install Net Nanny. If so, we know that UAC is what is causing the problem with the installation.

    1. access control panel user to the Start Menu-> Control Panel-> user accounts and of security for the family-> user account

    2. click on the settings of the user account controll link.

    3. move the slider to never notify

    4. click OK for the changes to take effect

    5 reset.

Once you have correctly installed the Net Nanny, then back to the control panel and reactivate the UAC.

Answer please come back and let us know.

  • problem with mcafee DLP Device control on virtual machines Windows XP

    Hallo,

We use view ESX 4.1 and 4.5.
I have the problem that we use DLP 9.1 with EPO 4.5 and have the problem that when we use DLP USB glue with series nummer they do not work through zeroclient on the virtual machine.

We've set the rules in the operative part of DLP controll that she is allowed to use usb sticks which are content encrypted and where the serial number is saved in the DLP.

It works fine on normal physical laptop but if I use the same USB on my zeroclient who got a machine virtual vmware as the stick got allways blocked.
I also tried to register before the stick no serialnumber and used the VID and PID, but also that have the same result as the stick has blocked.

If I disable all the rules of control of the aircraft as the stick got mapped from zeroclient to the virtual machine without problem.
Can help you to use or is there any practice well known for using control of the device with virtual machines?

I was also in touch with mcafee, but they want to say, this problem is related to vmware and I close go in contact with vmware.

    Best regards
    Heinze MS

    Hallo,

    so, we found the problem.

The reason why in the virtual machine, it has no SN the stick that we couldn't resolve, but we are in contact with the zeroclient of the teradici seller.

The reason why the instance id of the stick and PID or VID where does not have a problem in the permission set for the users who have applied the policy of the EPO.

DLP policy showed he applied rules and also the show later when you loggon, but he was right on the configuration screen that this rule are configuried when you use DLP political configuration of the importation of the EPO server it load the config which is really being used and so we saw that when we have configured the USB via the instance VID PID or device that was never written on the server EPO and never applied to the virtual machine :-)

best regards, perhaps it's useful for someone

  • problem with obtaining security (Spy - Bot and SuperAntiSpyware) to run or install applications

I made a mistake. It was preventable, and I knew that I made the mistake, but the curiosity is sometimes too strong.

The result was once I downloaded and "installed" an update to adobe flash player (who turns out be a virus), SpyBot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware would not open their main windows.

First of all, to treat the virus, I immediately shut down the computer. I had to do a force quit. I rebooted and never even got the screen that would allow me to boot into safe mode. I forced stop again, and this time, I unplugged the computer and removed the battery (it's a laptop). I noticed that the battery indicator has continued to do is market / stop flashes a few times more before, he finally stopped.

I put the battery, plug the computer back in and started upward. This allowed me to go in safe mode, and I used that to do a restore to the last control point, which was yesterday morning. I caught the virus last night at about 17:30 or more.

Which seems to work, but I have had a recurring problem since then. When I start up I get a message about an application that need to access a protected file. I keep clicking Cancel, because the window looks like a window of Win 2000, and I've never seen this message before. The application is named A with a highlight (as opposed to a line of underscores).

In addition to this, I had to uninstall SpyBot S & D both SuperAntiSpyware because neither would open their main eindow and I would like to do a scan. I downloaded the installers again and tried to reinstall the two of them.

SpyBot installed, but I still can't get the main window to open. SupeAntiSpyware will not install. The installation program will not even start. I'm sure that all of these things are related to this virus, because I didn't have these problems before you download.

I ran Microsoft online virus and spyware last night. It has taken nearly 6 hours to complete the scan and found 7 problems, which I allowed to remove. The problem persists, because I still can't install SAS and SBS & D stil open its main window.

What can I do to fix this? This is an image of the window that asks permission to access a protected file:http://wolf3dmall.zxq.net/PNG/what.png

The virus file is contained. At first, when I double-clicked it, the file that I downloaded disappeared from my file my received files. After I got the system working again, I returned, set bookmark the pages concerned, re-uploaded the file, immediately the file zipped and deleted the file. I'm not sure who to send to find out what kind of virus it is, but he's a bad guy.

I will try to provide more information, if necessary.

What security software you are using (McAfee, Norton, Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, etc.)?  The provider of your AV program probably offers a facility to submit files infected for analysis.

Your computer is still infected - and the virus or other malware interferes with SuperAntiSpyware and other remedies.

Have you tried Malwarebytes?  The infection may prevent you to install and run Malwarebytes.  However, you can sometimes overcome this problem by disguising Malwarebytes, so that the virus cannot recognize the program.  You'll find a great set of instructions at http://tech.amikelive.com/node-144/tdss-trojan-and-bediddle-adware-removal-guide. Although the instructions refer to the TDSS Trojan, you can use the same procedure to remove the other infections.

You can also try a different approach, that might work. Try to connect to www.eset.com/online-scanner and perform an online scan.  If that does not work, in Mode safe mode with networking and try again.

I have AVG but it has expired. I've been unemployed for a couple of years now, and I have no money to pay for the renewal of the contract with. I used SpyBot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware as my main defense since my AVG expired. I also try to make a habit of od stay away from sites known to the virus.

It was my own stupidity, and I guess I deserve it, but I want to just fix this. I keep hope that something will change, and I'll get a job again, but so far nada. I can't really afford to lose this computer. It's been 6 years, and if he dies, I'm in a world of pain.

I will try your suggestion and I'll post here what is happening.

    Thank you.

Edit: I downloaded Malwarebytes, following the instructions on the site you provided. I ran the scan in safe mode, and it has found 19 problems. Then, when I rebooted, the guest even appeared requesting permission to access a protected file. I ran the scan again in normal mode, and it found nothing.

After the restart again (the first analysis took less than an hour and a half, and the second scan took more than 3 hours), Yahoo Messenger started to run as soon as I got this stupid window again. I don't know what to think. My computer * seems * still works ok, but SpyBot S & D will not open its main window, and SuperAntiSpyware installer does not always. I will try reinstalling SpyBot again, but I am not sure that this thing is fixed.

Unfortunately, no security software cannot be never 100% effective. Even if you have up-to-date protection AV, "bad guys" can always get through.  The absence of a comprehensive antivirus program with updated definition files increases the risk of significantly.

While Spybot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware to your arsenal useful additions, they do not provide the full AV protection or resident and are totally unsuitable for primary protection.

With Spybot S & D, you must also perform a manual update at intervals of a week, followed by vaccination.  Once you have run the weekly 'vaccination', Spybot S & D uses standard Windows and the browser to block access to known malicious Web sites. However, the key word is "known." The 'search and destroy' service manual can remove some infections and the option "TeaTimer" feature provides additional protection against unauthorized to your registry changes.  However, Spybot S & D does not have a complete AV protection and cannot protect against many infections initial.

SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are tools for deletion, which are very good to eliminate infections who missed the other utilities.  Unfortunately, they cannot protect against the initial infection.

The infection of your computer interferes with SuperAntiSpyware. Try the portable version of SAS (seehttp://forums.superantispyware.com/index.php?/topic/3424-superantispyware-portable).

So, if you have not already done so, please perform an online scan, using www.eset.com/online-scanner?  You can also try the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.  Learn tips to www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Shared/Help.aspx#infected

You must also replace the version of AVG expired subscription with adequate antivirus protection.  The free version of AVG, the free version of Avast OR Microsoft Security Essentials free program would be alternative appropriate.

Please note that you must have only one AV program reside on your computer, so it is important to eliminate all traces of your old AV program, before installing a replacement.  You will find tools to remove AVG at www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools.  If you have already used McAfee or Norton on your computer, you should also download and run these emissions removal tools.

Unfortunately, there is a risk that the infection could prevent or interfere with the installation of any other anti-virus program.  This is why I recommended a scan online, before you remove the subscription version of AVG or install a replacement antivirus software.

If you install Avast, you must perform a complete analysis standard, followed by an analysis of 'Boot', which will check your computer when you re - start in Windows.  (A Boot scan can remove infections that are hidden, after Windows starts).

I have SuperAntiSpyware and SpyBot S & D to work. I followed the same convention that I used with MalwareBytes. I've renamed South spybot and its opening. I installed SAS as sup and it worked as well. Even after using both of them, which resulted in the SAS, but not in Spybot, the window requesting the ever-present authorization, usually at the time that yahoo Messenger connects to the network.

I'll follow your suggestions. I wasn't aware that AVG has a free version. When I bought the installation I have now, it's because the only 'free' version, that I could find was a trial version that only lasted 30 days. I can't replace my anti-virus every 30 days, just because I can't pay for protection. A man who even sounds like extortion. :(

This seems to be the correct approach.  However, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware did not remove the infection, and I fear that the malware prevents the installation of updated AV protection.  I hope that you will be able to install the free version of AVG, and if so, I hope that it will remove the infection.

I recommend also to download and install a utility named 'Hijack this'-http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis.  Run "HijackThis.exe" to generate a log file and save the log to a directory on your hard drive.  Do not try to use HijackThis to fix the infection.

At this point, you will need additional assistance which I am not qualified to provide.  However, there are a number of Web sites that are occupied by volunteer experts who can offer help step by step.

Register for a free account on www.bleepingcomputer.com and click on the Forums tab.  Forums security scroll and select the forum "Virus, Trojan, Spyware and Malware Removal Logs".  Create a new thread and view the details of your problem.  You also paste the full text to hack this journal in your inquiry.

You may need to wait a few days.  However, one of the Bleeping Computer experts will analyze the log and I hope, will be able to provide removal of the step by step instructions.

I can not quite the exact message.

The problem is perhaps due to another program of security currently running on the system?

If this is the case, disable / remove the program of security in conflict.

However, the apparent difficulty is to use the tools and the support of McAfee to solve the problem.
