Update XP SP2 SP3?

I'm running XP SP3 home page. Recently, I get an automatic Windows Update message that a 2007 SP2 update is ready for download and installation. Is that what sounds good since I installed SP3?
Thanks for your comments.
Andy

Office 2007 SP2 is different from Windows XP SP3.

You have Office 2007 installed?

  • Repeat the installation of XP SP2 SP3 chess & (0xc0000005 error message)

original title: repeated failure of XP SP2 SP3 installation &

Computer - 32-bit intel running Win XP SP1. Before the blue screen of death and sys fatal error: "logon windows process is complete w / status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)" computer ran SP2.  However once I got XP with the ERD installation, system not subsequently install SP2 (which has no x 3). Before the blue screen of death, I had a lot of crashes with IE and had tried to install SP3 several times (at least 4 x and it has always failed).  Last week, cleaned the registry with CCleaner and today cleaned registry with Windows Registry Editor (that I got from MS and installed the code in Notepad and ran). SP 2 fails to install. At first there was a message. So I uninstalled Norton, thinking that may be preventing them working right. (Since I had Norton until today I think not machine is infected.) After cleaning the registry, I got a new error: "Entry point procedure DecodePointer is not found in KERNEL32.dll dynamic link library" is there anything else I can do? Thank you.

Since its impossible to say what your registry cleaning did I think that at this point I would do the following:

    (1) download and create the startup disk check utility of your HD manufacturers site, for example SeaTools for WD drives

    (2) create the memeory bootable checking the utility from www.memtest.org

    (3) assuming that the two utilities do not present any errors

    (4) pure install winxp, deleting all partitions, create a new one, and then continue with the installation

    (5) install the drivers, if you have a driver disk provided by the manufacturer of the PC, otherwise, create an internet connection, enable the windows firewall, do NOT install any programs or admit MSUpdate run

    (6) If a large PC manufacturer for example Dell / Hp or laptop then visit this site of decision-makers, specific to your model and update all drivers, if a generic PC card so if material individual responsible, for example the motherboard, sound, video, these last two are not on board the motherboard

    (7) then run MSUpdate, configure it to Important updates ONLY, and NO updates recommended - you may need to repeatedly run MSUpdate

    (8) then check the operation of your PC. Unless you have the latest version of Norton I forget and try http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

    (9) only after all seems okay if you think about installing software

    Hello
    to stop the update?

Is there an error message appearing? Or the machine works in a blue screen? The installation program starts?

    Good bye

  • Vista - just got the update to SP2 (is this normal?)

I just want to check if this is normal. I downloaded and installed quite a few updates since SP2 release date, but were only invited to install SP2. Should I install?

I don't know why it took so long to ask you, but install SP2 is a good thing, then I suggest you certainly do.  If you encounter problems, Microsoft Support always offers FREE for Vista SP2 support at:https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?prid=13014&gprid=582034&st=1&wfxredirect=1.

SP2 contains several important updates and changes - it must be installed on all Vista machines.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Can I get an installation Win XP Pro Update CD includes SP3? The one I have now is pre - SP2 and reinstalling the operating system takes 4-EVER!

My existing Windows XP Pro installation CD is almost a decade, and it precedes SP2. It's a nightmare, whenever I have to reinstall the operating system as ut takes a day or two to download Microsoft updates. Is it possible to replace my installation CD with a newer version, including a number of post-SP3 updates and SP3?

You do this using a technique called "slipstreaming".  You start with a genuine XP installation CD and add in the necessary service packs and updates.

If your CD-ROM is sp1 or 1A, you can just slipstream sp3.  If you have XP 'or' (pre - sp1), it is more complicated.

There are many websites that explain how to do this.  Google for "slipstream sp3 of xp" or something similar.

This site claims to have a script that will create a slipstreamed XP sp3 and all post-sp3 CD critical updates (description wrongly "sp2").  I the have not used and do not have any information on how easy it is or if she actually does what it says.

  • Can I run a filesystem check using my XP SP2 disk if the system has been updated to XP SP3

I'm having problems with my system and that you want to run a file system check, but I don't know if using my old disk installation will change all files in sp2 files.

Like No Mo pointed out, System File Check will not work unless you use a CD to the SP3 level. It might be possible to force it to work if Sabrina change a registry setting and if you have a folder on C: i386. BBUT instead, why not simply tell us what your problems are. Probably, we can guide you towards a better solution.

  • I had to install Win XP because I replaced my hard drive there SP 1a and I'm trying to update to SP2 and then SP3 - I can't do it via the Windows Update site - do I need to do?

It's a Dell Dimension 2400 and I have the original CD of the operating system (Windows XP Professional including Service Pack 1a).

I also have the MS XP product key of the "label" on the side of the computer.

Also, I use Norton 360 and who will download this machine as soon as I have the other updates that have been completed.

After you install N360 follow these steps:

    (1) performance "Live update", may need to run it more than once to install the updates. Note: A reboot may be necessary.

    (2) run a "full system scan".

    (3) run a full scan of the "reputation".

This will reduce the initial impact of any perception of a slowdown in performance. If you have N360V5 you are entitled to a free upgrade to N360V6.
