Updated labmanager & vCenter

Hello.

Currently I have:

2 hosts (ESX 4.0) for Labmanager

1 Labmanager 4.0.1

1 vCenter in 4.0 (on a 32-bit virtual machine)

+ a few other hosts

No shared storage.

I want to update the infrastructure.

1: LabMangager will be updated to 4.0.2

2: install on a new virtual machine a vCenter 4.1

3: remove vCenter ESX 4.0 hosts

4: Add ESX hosts to vCenter 4.1

5: stop all ESX hosts and upgrade to ESXi 4.1

What is the correct order?

Are there risks / issues? Labmanger will continue to operate if not managed by the same vCenter?

Will all the configuration / models to continue to work after all theses updates?

Thanks in advance.

I guess you install ESXi 4.1, that your ESX hosts are currently on ESX Classic/Full.  The problem with "relocation", it's that you cannot guarantee that the UUID of the LUN will remain the same.  And you need to reinstall if you wish to switch from classic to the Lite / (i).

Also, if you happen to choose the wrong option, you can inadvertently delete Virtual Machines.

If the UUID changes, you may need to call assistance in order to readjust the it.  just delete anything of Lab Manager if change the UUID.

Alternatively, you can configure shared storage and use SSMove to migrate from the Local host to the... shared storage then eventually come back.

Kind regards

Jonathan

  • Update and vCenter Device Manager

Anyone can confirm, the unit against the windows of vcenter does not update Manager contain? We have licensed Essentials and for 2 downloads, the device seems to have several missing features compared to the windows version? I'm under unit now, and there is no option to "search for updates" when I right click on the host. I just want to confirm that this is the case until I am forced to switch to a platform of Windows riddled safety...

Update Manager is only available as Windows application/service. In order to manage, you need either vCenter Server 6.0 Update 1 (see vSphere Update Manager (VUM) 6.0.1 - integration of customer Web - VMware Blogs) or the vSphere of Windows-based Client.

Anyway, with an edition of Essentials, which is a maximum of 3 guests - I would consider actually to patch the host manually rather than to the maintenance of an installation of the Update Manager.

  • Updated VMware vCenter Operations Manager tools

Hello everyone, I just use Citrix Xenserver to VMware vCenter with Operations Manager 5.8.4.  I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this.  Is it possible to update VMware tools in the vCOPS TIME?  I just started my new environment with v8 of Veeam backup and he lets know me that VMware tools are outdated.  The only reason why I ask because, coming from Citrix Xenserver v6.2, whenever a device from the virtual computer is provided by Citrix, you're stuck with the tools provided in this unit until they update the device.

If it's good to update the VMware tools, it's as simple as opening the console to each virtual machine in the vApp and he tell the ' Install/Upgrade Vmware Tools?  Or is there a more complicated step?

    Thank you

    Brett

As far as I KNOW, the VMware tools upgrade is not recommended on vCops.

This breaks the device and you can ignore the message of the VMware tools obsolete.

I've recently upgraded to VMware 5.5 and I'm having a problem with the Update Manager for where it says I don't have permissions to use it.  The plugin installs fine without errors.  I myself install as administrator, but it still doesn't let me use it.  I am using vCenter to manage my guests.  Any suggestions?  Thank you!

    Ty

To resolve this problem, update manager must be registered for the vCenter Server. This can be done by reinstalling Update Manager, but it can also be done without having to re - install.

    Step 1.

Remove vCenter update manager plugin by following VMware KB: suppression of the unwanted plugins to vCenter Server

    Step 2.

To connect to the server on which the Update Manager is installed

Open the Update Manager utility that is located in your Update Manager installation directory: VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe (located by default in C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\)

Select Save again with vCenter Server

Enter your credentials to the vCenter server and select apply

Once the operation is completed successfully, you are prompted to restart the Update Manager service.

  • 5 and update manager vCenter

    Hello

I installed vcenter and update manager as a virtual machine host.

Now when I want to use the update patch of the host Manager, it takes all the vm to stop.

Obviosly if I stop the VM guests, this includes the vm vcenter himself who then stops updates.

I tried to connect directly to the host without vcenter but then there is no Update Manager.

    Any way around this?

    Thank you

    Chris

I would start by setting up the vmware in your main site environment - Essentials you are able to use the vmotion and HA - vmotion you will deal with the current issue - would you be able to vmotion virtual machines on a host and update without havomg yp sjut down virtual machines. With HA you will be covered in the event of hardware failure - if an ESXi host to crash the system VMs automatiically will restart on the remaining hosts.

Bit please be aware vmotion and HA require shared storage - either SAN (iSCSI and storage FC0 or NAS/NFS -

  • Determine the Version of "Update" to vCenter

    Hi all

In the vSphere Client, when I choose 'Help' - 'about VMWare vSphere"I can see a version like VMware vCenter Server Version 4.1.0 Build 258902.

I just want to know what day version ; in regards the things readable as update 1 or 2 update and so on. Not a build as 16458932279 number. I'm not shure if there is 1 update is installed or not on my server. If Yes: would be written "Day 1," the subject of window or is it still just a build number? How will I know in this case what version of update, I installed on the basis of only a build number?

thx for your help and best regards

will not get you "Update" information, only build of informaiton.  This guide may be useful

  • Installation of VMware Update Manager (vCenter 4) and authentication

    Hi all

This should be fairly simple.  Can someone please confirm something for me?

In VI3 when you install VUM and enter a u/p that is used for installation only.  Is this still the case with vSphere?  The installer says now... "Update Manager will need this information to connect to the Server vCenter at startup."   It is not clear, it's just for starting the installer or the start of VUM whenever the service starts?

    See you soon

    Dan

It is only for the installation process.

VUM service (such as other services) runs with the credentials of the SYSTEM.

  • The upgrade of the VCenter 2.5.2 update 4 vCenter 4.0

I am preparing to update our virtual Center Server.  I read in the guide.  It seems straight forward.  I have listed the steps that I follow. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

    1. our Oracle database and resides on another server.  The DBA will upgrade the 11g database before the upgrade to vCenter.  This was recommended in the guide

2 upgrade vCenter Server - our virtual Center Server is a physical box.  We currently have loaded on the Server Update Manager, converter, and Capacity Planner.  I watched the video of upgrade and it suggested to have these additional software loaded on another server.  Is this a good practice?  Does anyone have these load on their virtual Center Server?

3 HA\DRS - I have three HA\DRS clusters.  Problems with this reconfiguration after the upgrade?

    4. I manage 3.0.1 by 3.5 hosts with the new version of vCenter.  Fix ESX, one host at a time in the coming months.  Expected problems?

    Thanks for any help!

Don't believe the hype.  What's weird, people have no problem to put 4 vCPU virtual machine and 16GB of RAM and SQL server, but on a PHYSICAL machine, they wince over 2 services on the same machine... I find it VERY strange.

We UM, Capacity planner, blah blah converter on the same machine, no problem.  They are on one different server other than VC however, only because at the point where I was trying to diagnose a problem with the Windows machine, and it turned to be a driver for the CARD, which has long since been corrected.  When I updated to 4.0 VC, so these are all on the same box... Well good except for the UNIFIED messaging and it is only because the other machine has back-end storage / DB that I want to use instead, but this isn't a problem.

Looks like we're on the same timeline.  I am doing a server tonight, using the VC... host update utility that should be fun.  So you have to compare notes.

  • Server Update Manager vCenter - host supports

I am currently preparing our environment for the upgrade to vCenter Server v2.0.2 to Update3 V2.5

Currently, we only have 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 hosts and I'm busy to patch the 3.0.1 hosts to satisfy the prerequisites for the upgrade of the vCenter server.

My question is, Update Manager supports the correction of the old armed forces or is it only 3i and 3.5 hosts it supports.  I read it somewhere but can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere
