Updated VC 2.5u1 to 2.5u2

Can someone explain the process to upgrade from 2.5u1 to 2.5u2? I downloaded the new "VMware-VIMSetup - 2.5.0 - 104263.zip" and I am confused with what why it needs to update my database? I thought the database would have just changed from 2.0 to 2.5... ect. I read all the documents on the upgrade, but am still confused on how to do it properly.

Thank you!

Patrick

Hi, I don't know what changes to database are... but they need.

He had a number of bugs etc in VC 2.5 U2, s, my advice would be to upgrade to VC 2.5 update 3.

Just to back up the VC database, start the installation and follow the wizards.

  • Using CA signed CERT on 5.5U2 device and SRM 5.8 vCenter (vPostgres)

Updated all our vCenters to 5.5U2.  Also upgraded to the latest Vsphere replication as well. No problems.  Everything works fine.

Tried to (re) install with 5.8 SRM components

A site uses Windows vCenter, and upgrade went well, using P12 CA cert signed during installation.

Another site using Vcenter device.  When you install SRM 5.8 and p12 cert, receive the following:

    ---

    Could not validate the certificate:

    Details:

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager of the customer are not approved by vCenter Server.

    ---

    and unable to continue

Tried to install the intermediate certificate on the host Windows SRM.  Also tried to add the intermediate certificate in the P12 cert but the message on the cert is not wrong.

Think it's something to do with the intermediate cert not given on the server vCenter, so unable to completely validate the cert chain.  Do not know if this can be installed on vCenter device is able to validate the string in this way.

Recorded a call about that, but I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and that she might have a work around.

    Hi Joel,

To put done SRM trust certificates in vCenter Server, you must do the following:

1 copy the cert CA (not sure if only the intermediary would be enough or the entire string) file in/etc/ssl/certs in Vcenter device

    2. run c_rehash in Vcenter device console

  • SRM 5.8 does not display an icon in the Web Client

I have a customer that has improved its server vCenter on the two sites of 5.5U1 to 5.5U2, a condition 5.8 SRM.

After what seems to be a successful installation of the SRM on both sites, I see NOT the RS icon on each site.

Tried to restart the VMware vCenter inventory Service

Services of SRM server and embedded database are running

I checked below and the ExtensionManager value, com.vmware.vcDr is actually present.

    Notes:

1 SRM is installed on the respective vCenter servers using the embedded DB ProstgresSQL

2 vcEnter also uses the embedded DB - there are only 3 hosts per site

    3. the total number of protected virtual machines expected to be 12

Any ideas? I know it's a new product, but we are here.

OK, this has been resolved. Here's the answer:

Customer said to have upgraded the server vCenter Server to 5.5U2, which he did. But...

    1. he could not also upgrade the inventory Service

    2. has failed to upgrade the Web Client

It is interesting that SRM 5.8 installation succeeded only after upgrading vCenter server, but the Installer do NOT also test the compatibility of the inventory also upgraded service.

Note that there is no current documentation reflecting this anywhere I could find. Refers only to the version of vCenter server.

    Done deal.

No, and if you plan to upgrade your hosts you will really need to have your first improved vCenter.

You should upgrade your SRM version 5.8.1 see: VMware product interoperability Matrices

  • Update since 3.5u2 incorporated into the 3.5u4 on the Dell Server

    Hi all

I tried to get Dell OpenManage to work on my box of VMware for awhile until I discovered that this build number has been updated 2 and must be updated 4. The Dell ISO comes with pre-installed OpenManage. I was told that you can't do a upgrade, but having to basically reinstall vmware. It should detect my VM, but is it possible to migrate my settings on? I don't want to have to reconfigure a bunch of stuff, or lose my VM (God forbid!).

    All the words of wisdom?

This is the document for Dell OpenManage on ESX!

The table of contents is the most important part of this document; determine which sections apply to your situation before making any changes.

  • Updated VC for U3 2.5U2

I have to upgrade the database? Is on a remote SQL 2000 Server.

Is complictaed upgrade or something to run the wizzard.

    Thank you

I am certainly not talking out of place, because I did not take this path myself. I did upgrades 2.5 (no updates) and 2.0.x to 2.5 U3 and they all need work database. To specify where the information came from:

I went to http://www.vmware.com/support/vi3/doc/vi3_vc25u3_rel_notes.html and went to the title of the section upgrade or migration of VirtualCenter 2.5 update 3.

This article has a link to the upgrade guide which is here.  http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vi3_35/esx_3/r35u2/vi3_35_25_u2_upgrade_guide.PDF

On page 51, it is said that the DB must be upgraded. Funny thing about this guide is that it said to update 2. I tried to change the U2 to U3 in the link and got the page not found. Looks like there are probably a few documents or links that need to be updated.

  • Upgrading ESX 3.5U1 to 3.5U3 by using Update Manager

I'm almost finished upgrading all our servers ESX 3.02 to 3.5 update 1 more a few patches.

This was done by booting from the CD to update 1 3.5 to perform the upgrade.

I had a basleine created in the update manager that includes all fixes releaed in June 2008 or earlier. This base was also used on all of our ESX servers.

I now want to use the Update Manager to upgrade all servers to 3.5.0 update 3 and the latest patches.

If I have a base line that includes all the updates that are never out, can I just clean up the hosts on this base? The upgrade process will be "smart" enough to just install update 3 and latest patches or will be installed all the patches in sequence include the update 2 which I suppose is not necessary if the update 3 is also being installed?

Should I create a baseline containing the 3 updated and any update since then. Update 3 includes other updates also published November 6?

Note that I'm under 104215 virtual Center version but will be upgrading to update 3 before upgrading the hosts.

Our Update Manager database was created when the Update Manager is out and includes all updates, including ESX Server 3.5.0 Update 2 updated with the question of the "ticking time bomb".

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Craig

    Hello

I'm never live from 3.0.1 to U1 and U3. Always fresh, I installed 3.5 and then improved from there. However your approach should work perfectly as well. I wouldn't get to frustrated with VUM as him starts and stops and the issue of sanitation occur due to the circles of interesting dependence and bugs squarely in the process of upgrading some of the improvements. I often force ESX in Maintenance mode to install the updates. It depends usually if VMware HA is enabled, or VMS must be evacuated. I tend to evacuate all virtual machines running by hand, then perform upgrades.

    Best regards

    Hello

Since the two error messages that seems like corrupted install source / iso try to redownload vCenter 5.5 U2 iso image and run the Setup program again.

In addition, it is better if you disable UAC on the server before installing just to be safe check if all the AppLocker rules are not applied:

  • vCenter 5.1. Update 3 has no upgrade path?

The path to upgrading Solution of the matrix of interoperability shows that there is no way to upgrade available in a vCenter Server 5.1 updated 3 or ESXi 5.1 update 3.

I'm having a hard time to believe that the latest patch for the 5.1 versions cannot be upgraded.  Normally a reconstruction would do the trick, but there are built-in replication and SRM and I need to upgrade in place.   Anyone upgraded the 3 to 5.5 5.1 update update 2 or whatever it is between the two?  I really hope it's just a bug in the interoperability matrix.

Indeed, this seems odd. However, from the date where the 5.1U3 has been provided (5.1U3 in 12/2014 - 5.5U2 09/2014) there is a good chance that 5.1U3 already contains code that is not integrated in the 5.5U2 yet, but might come with 5.5U3.

  • ESXi5.5U2 - Patch03 on MacPro6, 1 - stuck on 'Initializaing ACPI.

So I was wondering if someone else is having problems with this since VMware released the fix to take charge of the MacPro6, 1 a few weeks ago. I managed to created a custom ISO with PowerCLI to add the patch (ESXi550-201410001) and when I run the Setup it says build 2143827 which corresponds to this patch, so I'm assuming that the ISO is good.

However, I'm running on an issue where when I start installation it freezes at "Initializing ACPI."... ». I started for MacOSX and there is no EFI or SMC update to apply.

    Specifics:

    VMware ESXi 5.5.0 - ESXi550-201410001

    MacPro6, 1

    8-core Intel Xeon ARE

    64 GB OF RAM

    Boot ROM: MP61.0116.B04

    SMC Version: 2.20f18

Help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    @Gortee

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable the ACPI on the Mac that I know. It is not a traditional menu of BIOS on Mac OSX EFI.

    ----

However, I managed to finally get ESXi5.5U2 - Patch03 installed and thought I'd share my conclusion in case someone else has the issue. In my case, I had MP61.0116.B04 as my Boot ROM, however there is no EFI updates available to bring it to version supported for ESXi of MP61.0116.B05. So I opened a folder with Apple Engineering and was informed that OS X Yosemite applies an EFI update that is not available other than upgrade to Yosemite. Then... I installed Yosemite who brought my Boot ROM up to MP61.0116.B07 and ESXi installed without any problems.

    Key take-a-ways...

    1. Need to Boot ROM MP61.0116.B05 or higher
    2. Upgrade to Yosemite you will come to MP61.0116.B07 = ESXi install SUCCESSFUL!
  • Upgrade to 5.5u1, stalls of server initialization iscsi up to 45 min.

Anyone found a solution for this problem?

I have patched, updated all the patches of VMWare, rollups, etc...

Updated the file MEM for the San Equalogics to 1.2.x

    The be2iscsi driver update.

Always take 45 min. to start, once started, everything seems fine?

Do not have the attached RAM-disks, or use MS clustering.

    Thank you, tandrist

Fixed, there are remains of a previous SAN.  Funny things, it's this high problem never his head until the upgrade to 5.5u1. ISCSI discovery must be different from 5.1 to 5.5?

  • Determine the correct update link

I have a single virtual machine host running 5.0. I want to update to 5.5 U1.

My server is an HP Proliant. I had to download a custom ISO for HP for the initial installation.

I need to download 5.5 U1 from the custom TAB ISO?

New virtual machine. The heads up / advice welcomed.

    Thank you.

    That's what you're looking for:

    https://my.VMware.com/group/VMware/details?downloadGroup=HP-ESXi-5.5.0U1-GA&ProductID=353

What about upgrade options, you have a few

    1.) wipe and install new

-This requires you to vmotion off all vm and UN-fix your storage, install as a fresh new installation

2.) upgrade on the spot out of the CD/DVD ISO from start and the update option

(3.) If you have an environment with installed Update Manager vCenter, you can import the 5.5U1 HP ESXi ISO in vCenter, once you have updated with Update Manager 5.5 5.5 and create a database upgrade, then he address to each host at a time

    Hope this has helped

  • 5.5 vSphere updated for compatibility with Samsung Tera1 Zero customers 1

Hi all, we anticipate a 5.1 to 5.5 vSpehere upgrade (Update 1).

I checked the compatibility matrices and can not find a match for our Tera1 Samung SyncMaster NC240 customer zero. My hypothesis is that VMware simply did not worth to test compatibility with the help of these models and it will actually work.

Everyone upgraded to 5.5 vSphere update 1 with zero customers Tera1 and they can confirm if that succeeded?

    Thanks heaps...

We are currently using Horizon view 5.3 with vSphere 5.5U1 and about 700 Tera1 zero clients have no problem Display protocol is of course PCoIP, over WAN and LAN connections.

The Tera1 devices are Wyse P20 and Samsung NC190 (must be the same as yours with screen 19 inch).

  • Error after upgrade to ESXi 5 Update 1 on free version

At all a ghettoVCBg2 got another run properly after the upgrade to ESXi 5u1 via vMA 5 when it's the free version?

I have a couple of free machine and they are the only ones having problems. My verson licensed production work very well.

The error I get on free machines is as follows:

Failed to get vim_service - the session object is not initialized or not connected to the line /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/VMware/VICommon.pm 1654
Perl came out with active threads:
    1 running and spare
    0 finished and spare
    0 running and detached

I find autour and trying different solutions to simular errors (for example, by adding the debugging of CARP), but nothing works.

None of the 1 post update fixes fixed either.

ghettoVCB works very well on the free servers however.

So, I'm curious if anyone has seen this problem?

I guess that the reason is that ghettoVCB2 was built for the paid editions that allow write API access.

There was some editions which do not restrict this access, as you can see in "Support of ESX/ESXi Version table" at http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9843. The initial version of ESXi 5.0 is / was one of them, considering that the update 1 is even more restrictive.
