  • Update Windows Vista crashes with 'check updates'

Last month, Windows Vista updates began to hang on to the 'check updates'.

I have: 1. tried all the fixes I could find.
2 reloaded Vista with SP1 from a recovery partition.
3 update worked until SP2; SP2 downloaded and installed OK.

    4. then, the update said I need latest update agent (7.6.7600.256). Downloaded and installed OK. At this point, the Windows update fails.
    5. If I uninstall SP2, but let the agent update, it works. When I reinstall SP2, it fails.

    6. I have installed a completely different image of Vista - this one was integrated in SP2. This version fails in the same way.

    7. I ran SFC, CHKDSK, System diags, updated all my drivers updated BIOS and replaced the memory. As far as I can tell this is the only thing that does not work on my PC.

Anyone has any ideas. ? -Thanks!

    Hi Ichabod22:

Thanks for your comments, and happy this worked.  I did have the chance to try this workaround yet - my phase "check for updates..." ran for 4 hours during my may 2016 updated Patch Tuesday before we found 16 available updates - but quite a few users of Win 7 SP1 and SP2 of Vista are now reporting that before installing these updates Windows kernel mode driver (Win32k.sys) each month (for example the KB3145739 in April 2016; KB3153199 in may 2016) reduced their updates for Patch Tuesday to hours to minutes.

I doubt that this is a permanent solution so be sure to check the page Web of Dalai Search for Windows Updates takes forever?-a possible solution next month to see if a new version of Win32k.sys is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center before your race updates your June 2016 Patch Tuesday.

Woody Leonhard has published a series of articles on of temporary workaround in his Woody on Windows blog, including Windows 7 update scans still holding? KB 3153199 can solve the problem, so congratulations to Woody, Dalai and others to share this potential solution.

  • Windows Update causes freeze/Crash

The latest version of windows (25 August) crashed my laptop under Vista and now it only works in safe mode. If I reset it to 20:00 on August 24, it works fine, then it executes the same update process and crashes again (3 times now) and now I am in safe mode. What is going on? How I have difficulty / stop?

    Hello

Set Windows Update to download but not install updates. You can then use a process of elimination
to see who is causing the problem. Sometimes just install them one at a time solves the problem.

BACK STORY: Windows told me that my old HDD is faulty and I need to replace it. I therefore created a system disk image and restore the HARD drive fault and buy a new. I have restored my image for the new HARD drive, and apparently some of the system files that got copied have been corrupted.

I'll HAVE PROBLEMS: The main problem I encounter is that windows will not update. I'll go to the start menu and try to choose windows update and it will sit in the windows Explorer screen blank until it crashes. This is the only time that windows Explorer will crash it's fine otherwise. If I have correctly interpreted my read, inability to update windows is caused by the software is is not authentic. Which brings me to the next point.
Windows don't think that it is authentic, even if I see the CDKEY in the system information window and when I hit "Activate Windows" in the search bar in the start menu, that it says "Activation was successful." I get a window saying: http://imgur.com/OQlZDhR I thought that I humor the system and try and validate it although this Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/DownloadValidationSupport.aspx?displaylang=en when I try and install the software Validation of Windows, I get this error: http://imgur.com/8lb0abR
TECHNICAL issues: I bought my computer from a major retailer with Windows Vista, he came with an OS disk. I've then upgraded to Windows 7 a few months after it is released and subsequently lost the installation disk that really means nothing because it is not the full operating system. So, indeed, I have no way to find my drive upgrade for windows reinstall/repair, which is what I would have done originally.
What I DID: I ran the command " Sfc/scannow " to the command window and he returned with: http://imgur.com/OD6WygE when I try and access the .log for this, he tells me access denied and I can't access the safe my life.
QUESTION: Is there something I can do to fix this? Something like a Windows download different difficulty tool or something else that I don't know who's going to help me fix the windows before going outside and by a new Windows 7 disc to repair the files?
    Thank you for your time

    Hello

Updates are closely related to IE.

Try these and it can also be a good idea to update your main drivers later. The General corruption can also play a
role in this issue. And even the TCP/IP stack might need to be refreshed.

What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you ALREADY had on this
machine, including those you have uninstalled (they leave leftovers behind which can cause strange problems).

If no joy there's something blocking perhaps.

Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - IE with no Addons - what works best?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - tab click on restore, and then click Reset - apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security tab - click on reset all default areas - apply / OK

Close and restart IE or IE with no addons

    not better?

IE - tools - manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, it is no longer necessary but Java always install
"(and it causes problems - you never update Java to go back in and turn it off again)." Search for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - tools - software explore - look for problems with programs that do not look right. Permit
are usually OK and "unauthorized" are not always bad. If in doubt about a program to ask about it here.

Could be that a BHO - BHOremover - free - standalone program, needs no installation, download and run - not all
are bad, but some can cause your question (toolbars are BHO).
