Upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0 Vsphere

Hi guys,.

Im a beginner ti VMware, only a few months experience.

A test, I want upgrade Vsphere 5.1 to 6.0 - I have 6 guests on 2 groups. Vsphere upgrade to 6.0, will he will lead all the time for virtual machines?

In addition, the hosts are all on 5.1 I think... upgrade to 6.0 or (6.2?) I guess that it will take down the relevant host at the time?

On a final note, should I upgrade to VSphere 6.0, before upgrade hosts? IE will be guest performer 5.1 is compatible with Vsphere 6.0?

Thanks for your time.

It depends, if you are able to vMotion of virtual machines to another host in the cluster, you can move all the VMS to a specific host and then upgrade the host.

In addition, the hosts are all on 5.1 I think... upgrade to 6.0 or (6.2?) I guess that it will take down the relevant host at the time?

The latest version of vSphere is 6.0 Update 1 b, but little matter which version you want to apply, the host must be in maintenance mode in order to upgrade to another version.

On a final note, should I upgrade to VSphere 6.0, before upgrade hosts? IE will be guest performer 5.1 is compatible with Vsphere 6.0?

When you say vSphere 6.0, you're talking about vCenter Server 6.0, if yes, you need really improve the vCenter Server to version 6, before starting the ESXi upgrade hosts to version 6, since a vCenter Server version 5.x server are not able to manage the hosts to version 6.x

  • Upgrade from ESX3.5 to vSphere 5.0

    Hi all

I have a project to upgrade on update my old host ESX 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 to the most recent and vSphere vCenter Server 5.0 and 5.0.

After having read in the doc upgrade and because of the environment is small, I decided to build a new vCenter Server from scratch rather than go through the upgrade process (mainly due to wanting to put vCenter on a virtual computer, upgrade the operating system to 64-bit, separate the VCDB on an external SQL Server etc.).

I'm hoping to do an orderly migration where I vMotion VMs off-a former host, upgrade to vSphere 5, and vMotion the VMs, then turn it back on for her.

My question is quite simple (I hope):

Can I add vSphere 5.0 ESXi hosts and ESX 3.5 hosts in the same Cluster HA (assuming they are configured the same way in regards to the vSwitch and vMotion) after I added all hosts in vCenter 5?

This is so that I can vMotion VMs ESX 3.5 hosts former on the new 5.0 vSphere hosts after an upgrade of the host.

Virtual machines are all alive and I can't afford to have downtime...

    Thanks for your time...

    -Anthony

    Hi Anthony,.

-There is no direct upgrade from ESX / I have 3.5 to 5.0

-See link that has the checklist of HA and on ESX 35 x patch requirement inorder to add to 5.0 HA cluster

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-50/index.jsp?topic=/com.VMware.vSphere.avail.doc_50/GUID-BA85FEC4-A37C-45BA-938D-37B309010D93.html

-If you upgrade VC25Ux, make sure that host certificates enabled, other wise HA configuration breaks down, link above has this info also

-Yes, VMotion works between 5.0 ESX hosts and ESX35x whether network, CPU compatibility are according to the needs.

  • Question on Vsphere upgrade from ESX3.5 update 3

We currently have our VCServer and race, but I'll be upgrading for Vsphere 4.0 Update 1. To do this, I need to build a new server, because our current server is not compatible with the hardware requirements. First of all, is there an easy way to migrate the settings from one server to another? Also the networks I will build as my local lan and my dmz, network adapter settings, etc... be there when I take my guests on the new Vsphere server. Are the specific server VC parameters or appearing in ESX boxes themselves?

    jkoelker wrote:

So since I only change my virtual Center Server and without changing the physical material of boxes ESX but upgrading from 4.0 I still need to worry recreate all my settings. Depending on your position, the parameters are all specific to the ESX boxes and not the server Vcenter himself? I read that correctly? The only thing that happens is my Vcenter server. I'll put as the utility to update on what will update my esx boxes and Vsphere.

If you do an upgrade to ESX4, so yes all the settings will be retained.

I was under the impression that you have been rebuild the ESX host, that would be my choice of the upgrade.

  • Upgrade from 6.0 to 6.2 horizon view

    Hello

I will update 6.0 seen Horizon to 6.2 in two weeks. I read the guide 6.2 upgrade and have my flattened upgrade plan, more or less.

Now that I'm not sure of the East (this is the first time that I am ignorant version), is / was there of any changes from 6.0 to 6.1 which must be taken into consideration, but is not mentioned in the guide to 6.2 day?

Also, I currently don't have implemented SSO implementation. How the look of the task would get SSO running? Think to implement SSO before the update... one thing at a time...

High level of questions, I know. But I am happy to provide more details if it is necessary.

    Thank you

The date of issue for Horizon view 6.0.1 6.0.2 6.1, 6.1.1 in detail what is included in this version.  The release notes for 6.2 will include shades or known issues related to the upgrade to this version.

It does not appear that the upgrade from 6.0 to 6.2 is supported.  Page 11 of the upgrade guide indicates that the 'latest version of VMware Horizon 6.0 (with view) maintenance, which is 6.0.2"is the supported platform that allows to upgrade.

Also, when the upgrade of your Agent view, uninstall existing agent, restart and install the new agent of 6.2.

Check the Product Interoperabiity matrix to ensure your versions of vSphere and vCenter are supported in point 6.2.  Also, do not forget to check your version of DB is supported in 6.2 (for the composer and DB events) here.

  • Lack of Configuration section in VAMI, vCenter active watch is not Accessible after upgrade from 5.5 to 5.8

Hi all!  I'm having a bit of a problem that I can't find a solution for anywhere.

I have a lab with two boxes of vcsa under 5.5 U2d, and wanted to move to 5.8 SRM.  I started the VRA 5.5.1 (I do not remember, real version number which was with MRS 5.5.1), mount the ISO 5.8 on both sides, restarted both, took the update of the CD (following the official update steps), but after the restart, the two vCenters show "enabled (not available)" and still list it as 5.5.1.

I have validated the RV service is running.  I have been following this thread, regenerated certificates for the TWO vCenters & TWO VRAs: vsphere upgrade from 5.5 to 5.8 Server replication enabled (not accessible) has yet no joy.

I checked the CROWD and the IP address is correct.  I tried to check /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension.xml for the thumbprint and the file does not exist on each box, the only thing it is extension - template.xml.

On the one hand, I have reset the vCenter database (/ usr/sbin/vpxd - d of VMware KB: reset the vCenter Server repository embedded for vCenter Server Appliance 5.x ), deployed a new VRA 5.8, and he had to register very well.  It's then it dawned on me what missed me: almost all the Startup Configuration where you specify the vCenter (see attachment)

For grins, I recorded the VRA 5.8 of the 'old' vcsa work and tried to save it to the 'new' vcsa, which he could not with a lot of what looked like errors, assuming that because of 'new' vcsa already having a recorded SOAP VRA.  I re-recorded it back to the 'old' vcsa and is happy.  Installed SRM 5.8 (uninstalled 5.5 because I started with a clean database in the vcsa) and all is well on the side of the 'old '.

I'm trying not to go this route on the 'new' side, as I a VDS, vSAN and twice as many hosts, so I won't recreate the vDC, cluster, add guests, etc.  I copied to /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension-template.xml /opt/vmware/hms/conf/extension.xml and restarted.  Footprint arises, but still no configuration tips.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. You said that the VRA is on a cluster, East of thatcluster HA-enabled? Because where HA must restart the VRA on another host, it does so through the ESX host and this could have emptied the OVF environment. And to even you'll always a working configuration until you start the upgrade or you try to perform any operation through VAMI configuration page. To be on the safe side, I think before upgrade, you can power off and then turn the unit on (simple restart is not enough) to make sure that the EPS of the FVO is recreated.

  • vCenter Storage Monitoring Service Service initialization failed after the upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5

I recently upgraded from vCenter 5.1 to 5.5. After the upgrade, I started getting health warnings for the VMware vCenter monitoring of Storage Service that say "failed to initialize the Service." I restarted the vCenter server and restart services several times and who has not deleted the question. When I look in the SMS. LOG file there is no activity in it since I did the upgrade (a week or more there). All prior activity in the SMS. JOURNAL seems to be well upward until the upgrade took place though. I found at least half a dozen KB articles that describe the various reasons why this error may occur, but they all relate to older versions of vCenter. Just to be complete, although I saw the symptoms in the articles and none of them really seem to be the same as what I see. My hypothesis is that perhaps the SMS did not get properly re-installed upgrading because I don't see any SMS subdirectory in the directory \Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps but I do not know if this directory must exist on a 5.5 installation.

If you would be grateful if anyone has any advice for troubleshooting for this type of error.

    Thank you

    Mike

Change the credentials of the service account for VMware vSphere Profile-Driven Storage Service to those used to start the VMware vCenter Server service and the service of VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices. By default, the account used Local System.

Restart the service, the change was made, and then check.

VPN access no longer works after update IOS 10!  With the help of an iPhone 5 or 6, our employees use their hotspot phone to connect to our VPN.  Suddenly, he broke Monday after the upgrade to IOS 10.  We have experienced many versions of IOS, and it has always worked.  Any patch available?

    Hello howlindaug,
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If I understand your message that your employees will no longer be able to connect to your virtual private network with their iPhone 5 or 6 after the upgrade to iOS 10. Sierra Mac OS and iOS 10 delete a VPN profile PPTP connections when a user upgrades from their device. If your VPN is a PPTP connection, you'll want to use one of the options listed in the section below:

Prepare for removal of PPTP VPN before upgrade you to iOS 10 and macOS Sierra

    Alternatives for PPTP VPN connections

Try one of these other VPN protocols for authentication by user that are safer:

    • L2TP/IPSec
    • IKEv2/IPSec
    • Cisco IPSec
    • VPN SSL clients on the App Store, such as those of AirWatch, Aruba, Check Point, Cisco, F5 Networks, MobileIron, NetMotion, Open VPN, Palo Alto Networks, Pulse Secure and SonicWall

  • Upgrade from 17.0.9esr to 24.0esr, now all downloads are not visible at all anywhere

I just upgraded from 17.0.9esr to 24.0esr. At first I noticed that download statusbar has not shown all downloads when they have been downloaded, so I decided to remove it. That has not changed anything because I do not see in tools-> Downloads tab. I tried to play with the browser.download.useJSTransfer and the browser.download.useToolkitUI, I've seen in my search, but they do not help. I also tried to change the options of the private browsing mode, and although I can see that downloads fail, I don't see when they download. I don't know what is happening.

I have reset the settings of firefox and it seems to be fixed. I could not identify any option that could have been the cause. He could download status bar. I no longer need because new download managers to work pretty well.

  • Why the scroll bar arrows disappeared from Firefox when I upgraded from Fedora 17 to 18 years?

Recently, I upgraded from Fedora 17 to 18 of Fedora. Before the update, Firefox worked perfectly. Now, the arrows have disappeared of the scrollbar on the right. How can I get back them?

This problem is not moved in other applications - in Firefox.

Alternatively, you can check for problems with the file localstore.rdf.

Do you have a scroll bar (that is, only the buttons have disappeared)?

You use the default theme of Firefox (Tools > Modules > appearance)?

    You can attach a screenshot?

Use a type of compressed as PNG or JPG image to save the screenshot.

You can try to check if another theme or icon pack Linux brings them back.

I upgraded from 3.6.15 4.0, but the appearance of Firefox has not changed at all. There is no Awesome Bar, Firefox Button or bookmark button. The only change was 2 of my addons have been disabled.

The new interface is the default on Windows Vista and Windows 7 only. To get it under Windows XP, you must hide the menu bar. Do, in the view menu, select Toolbars, then click on the entrance to the "Menu bar".

If you need to access the menus, you can press Alt or F10 to display temporarily.

  • Main problems after upgrading from XP to Vista on Qosmio F20

I have recently upgraded from XP to Vista on my Qosmio F20 and having problems. It seems that I lost the ability to change screen resolutions, to adjust the volume, brightness, etc. Basically, I lost the laptop functions. I also tried updating the BIOS but get the following error message "BiOS update only is not supported OS - unsupported OS or service pack installed.»

This also makes very slow computer.

You now have a few questions, or you wrote just a report on your experience of Vista on Qosmio F20?

The fact is that Toshiba does not support Vista on this laptop model and thereby you will ever complete Vista of operation (including the Toshiba tools and utilities). For supported laptops, Toshiba offered special Vista supporting BIOS but for your laptop, this update of the BIOS does not exist.

    Sorry! :(

Is this smart upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

Does anyone have any experience with the upgrade to windows 10? (both good or bad)

PS - I don't trust more HP and their assumption of the pilot, also its my work laptop. (associated with very important Bank of programs on this subject).

    1. the older system with Win7 should not go Win10 that HP provides no support any drivers for it unless it was made in 2013.

    2. your specific HP PS comment is false with no facts to backup. We should refrain from making these comments - does nothing to help other users.
