Upgrade method doubts

Hi all

I have Oracle 10.2.0.3 in windows and Unix.
In windows, there are 2 databases and Unix 5.

now, I want to spend this oracle to 10.2.0.4. I have some doubts to clear help me please...

Now in 10.2.0.3 way at oracle, I'll install the 10.2.0.4 patch set.

MOS notes, stated post installation patch that I must upgrade the database using DBUA or manual using the upgrade script.
Before using the upgrade script, it must set the ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME.

My question is, this may be stupid, but please delete the question, I want to be clear on that.

1. as I have 5 databases in my system, if I need to upgrade after installation of the patch. I need to select a database in DBUA upgrade after completing the upgrade of the database, so I select the second database separately again to upgrade. Am I wrong?

2. If I do it manually, I can spend my five databases one by one only by setting the ORACLE_SID and script execution, I'm good or bad?

3. After installing the patch, if I update a database using DBUA/manual and leave the rest. What will happen to these database will work or not?

4. If I need to do a migration and up gradation of a database using a cold backup, how to do?
(a). take a cold backup of the DB from Oracle 102.0.3, make a backup of the control file and pfile.
(b). Oracle again install something like 11 GR 2
(c) using the previous DB pfile file, we must create a pfile editing GR 11, 2 locations.
(d). Den must export the home path and export the new DB name to 11.2 and beginning that implementation level, run the scripts.
(e) after finished the upgrade, using the control from the previous database file, create NEW CONTROLFILE.
(f) after the controlfile creation. DB ready.

Is the above steps for the Migration of Oracle and up gradtion is correct or incorrect.

Thanks in advance,

nonuday

Hello

Thanks so much for your clear explanation, if we opt for the option YES, datafiles will be moved to the new location and will be upgraded. If we do not choose, the data files will be updated but not moved. So we hope my imposed is correct.

YES

Can you tell me, in the manual upgrade, we begin with STARTUP UPGRADE and wil check for invalid objects, the time zone and then upgrade script. In the manual process, the data files are just improved, but they are not moved. Am I right or wrong?

YES, you are right. It will not move.

Thank you

    Hi all

What are the possible methods to upgrade VSphere 4.x for VSphere 5.

ESXi can be migrated from 4.1 to 5.0 by using:
-Interactive migration (by using the installation media to start the host).  You can use the same installation media to do a new installation or an upgrade to ESX/ESXi 4.x to 5.0 ESXi.
-Migration script (using the script KS.cfg)
    -vCenter Update Manager
Note: You cannot make a migration to an ESXi host using CLI (like vihostupdate).
The vCenter Server 4.1 to 5.0 upgrade process is quite similar to migrate from vCenter 4.0 to 5.0 (see the guide to upgrading VMware site)

  • "Rolling upgrade" method is applicable to the single instance of database?

    Hello

I did a google search, but all the documents I found refer to the deployment of upgrade for JRC and DG Environment. Rolling upgrade can be used to upgrade, say Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5? Or in general, the method "rolling upgrade" applicable to database specific environments? If Yes, could someone post a URL? I want to learn this in order to minimize downtime for upgrades of database.

    Thanks in advance!

As far as I KNOW, rolling upgrade applies only to CARS or DG scenarios. It does not apply to single autonomous databases.

  • 9.3.5 upgrade method... Settings or ITunes?

I'll be less likely to face problems to upgrade using iTunes on my computer (rather than through 'Settings' on my iPad2), or are there no advantage?  I'm upgrading to 9.3.1 to 9.3.5.

Assuming that you have a recent version of iTunes on your computer, and assuming that the iPad has used this version of iTunes to connect (sync) in the past, iTunes would be the safest way to update.

The reason is that iTunes on the computer would require less storage space on your iPad to perform the update.

  • Upgrading ISE to the deployment of node 2.0 - two

    Hello!

As we know that the ISE 1.3 can be upgraded to ISE 2.0 in two different ways. One is to use the upgrade of the Application that is fully automatic and the other way is the new facility of ISE 2.0 (full to the top of the nodes of ISE before installation).

Tutorials I've seen so far, described primarily on Application upgrade method, but I would like to know about the new facility of ISE 2.0. I choose this option, because it gives us more granular control of the upgrade.

If anyone have tried this second method for the ISE2.0 upgrade, please share your experience, and give us the procedure step by step. Thank you in advance.

    Hello Bala-

You can do one or the other. Personally, I prefer the direct upgrade path as the back/restore doesn't cary all settings and configurations. In addition, you will need to get new license keys as the ISE system will be new/different, so your old license keys will not work.

    I hope this helps!

  • Upgrade to Windows 8 Pro's PC OEM of Windows 8 (new installation)

I recently bought a new PC (Sony Vaio SVL241290X, Dec 2012) with Windows 8 is installed.  I then bought a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade license.  I would like to install Windows 8 Pro as a clean install in order to reformat my hard drive and also remove pre-installed software (my PC came with 2 partitions recovery and a lot of software VAIO...).  Windows 8 Windows 8 Pro upgrade is possible, but does not allow me to do what I want, as indicated in the previous sentence.

When I bought my Win 8 Pro license I created an iso, which I then burned on a DVD.  After spending some time to find how simply boot from the drive (had to change MODE of BOOT UEFI to LEGACY in the BIOS, that I can enter only with the key Sony 'Help'...), I was finally able to start installing Windows 8 Pro disc.

After the start of the DVD, I reached the configuration of Windows 8 screen where I accepted the default settings (language, time, keyboard) and click "next".  I then clicked on "install now".  After a brief loading time, I get a message stating: "the product key entered don't match any available to install Windows images. Enter a different product key.  The provided only option is to click on 'OK', what I do, which returns just the on-screen 'Install now', that will make a loop back me the product key message if I click it.
Of some Internet research, I discovered that Windows 8 keys are now included in the BIOS, this is why I am never have the opportunity to enter my new Pro license (is this correct Microsoft?).
    Can you help me?
    Things I've tried:
    1. I upgraded to Windows 8 Windows 8 Pro (in order to "update the BIOS/firmware key"...) and then returned a clean install.  It not worked as I always get the product key message.
Things I don't want or think I should be compelled to make:
    1. install Windows 7 from the disc and then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and remove the windows.old folder.
    Thank you.

    Hello

I never tried the upgrade in the way you describe... which I figured just enabled the features already on your machine, but wasn't sure.

I don't think that reinstall Win 7 and the upgrade work is the nature of your upgrade method. It seems to need to win 8, not 7.

From what I can tell, the only way for you to do the clean install would be with the real upgrade of the other versions.  The $40 or $70 a, depending on download or retail sales.

If you are interested, I've seen a number of online stores sell upgrade Windows 8 Pro (retail) for $30 - $40 after rebate (NewEGG) and in one case $40 outright (MicroCenter). That doesn't seem right, but it seems to be like that.

Thank you, but $40 upgrade option is one I bought (via http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/buy?ocid=GA8_O_WOL_SM_AppsOffer_FPP_Null) and I got with it.
That's what I ended up having to do:
    1. perform a clean install of Windows 7 on my OEM Windows 8.  I installed by booting from a Windows 7 disc that allowed me to reformat the hard disk (and remove all partitions in the process).
    2. after installation of Windows 7 (not active) on a completely wiped hard drive, tried to boot from my disk Windows 8 Pro (bought from link above) to see if I could now preform a clean install.  Surprisingly, it did not work, I got the same message that I received before ("the entered product key does not match... (', see my first post).  This leads me to believe that my key OEM Windows 8 original (not pro) is indeed stored in the BIOS/firmware somewhere...
    3. given that start from my Windows 8 Pro disc does not work, I did the upgrade to Pro 8 for Windows 7.  I chose to 'Keep nothing', but still finished with a folder Windows.old (about 10 GB), I simply deleted.
In the end, I got what I wanted: an installation of Windows 8 Pro without any software preinstalled or wasted scores OEM/manufacturer.
This isn't the way I think it should have been done, but I think it's the way Microsoft is forced to make.
  • Upgrade to webOS 3.4.0.77 on TouchPad

I have improved my TouchPad to the latest webOS 3.4.0.77 last night and based on what has happened past that there may be a bug in the version.

I have a game installed, Super Sudoku HD, and it worked fine until after the upgrade.  Now, if the keyboard is in portrait mode, the game it's in landscape mode and vice versa.  This means that the controls are off the screen.

Someone else has met a similar problem with their applications?  Because the application worked fine before the upgrade, I doubt, it is an application problem; However, to be sure, I also contacted the developer of the application.

    Thank you

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

This script produces output only when DBUA and manual upgrade method is followed.

When executing DBUA or manual upgrade, some intermediate tables will be updated with the status of the db and utlu112s.sql collects data from these intermediate tables.

In the expdp/impdp method these staging tables are not being updated therefore the execution of utlu112s.sql did not produce any output. Impdp only imports the data from the existing database.

You can check the status of db using the dba_registry view.

    Hope that answers your query

I read the KB articles which seem to indicate that, to upgrade an ESXi host, you must use a vSphere Manager or an ISO on CD or USB.   But I saw someone go from 5.1 to 5.5 by downloading a zip file and running the commands, as indicated in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2008939.
