  • No VMnet0 network bridged after upgrade the host to win 8.1

Hi, I have many VM that worked well, and then I upgraded to VM Workstation 10 the other day and all right.

I ran a few VM after and the network worked. All VMS are defined as connected by a bridge.

Then I updated the PC windows host 8 to 8.1. Now, when I run VM workstation and run a virtual machine, I have no network connection.

and I get an error (see screenshot) on no VMnet0 does not.

If I try and add the network editor VMnet0 and jumpered value or change VMnet1 bridge I get an error see screenshot #2

No idea what is wrong or what to check. Never had this kind of problem before.

I checked the services on the host computer and found no VMnet services.

I have no configuration VMnet0 virtual network editor in and if I try and add that I can't put it as filled. I don't know, I got VMnet

before installation I think that I just checked Bridged in the configuration of the VM and it just worked before, but do not have now.

    Thanks for any help

    Too bad.

I got it to work, I closed all the VM.

Network editor opened and restored by default and it's working now.

I searched and read that in another post.

  • Problem of 5.0 to 5.1 upgrade VCSA - host list empty

    Hello

    I'm upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 VCSA.

I folled it http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2033990 Instructions KB.

Step 14, after the trust is made I should get a list with all hosts managed, but all I get is an empty list!

How can I solve this problem and continue with the upgrade?

    I tried IE8, IE9, IE10, Chrome and Firefox.

When I just click 'Next' I get an error "404 - Not Found" pre-upgrade check tool.

    Help, please!

    Kind regards

    Alexander

    Hey all,.

After I cancelled the upgrade, renamed the new VCSA to something more useful and changed the static IP address.  I was able to proceed with the upgrade.

    See you soon,.

  • Upgrade of host where vCenter is installed

    Hello

I have 3 hosts managed by vCenter. I have vCenter installed on one of the hosts I can't pass this one. I don't have vMotion as it is licensed Essentials, so I can't move it to another host temporarily. Is there a way to upgrade to that host vCenters without copy manually the machine virtual on to another host and start it up there and upgrade of the host and then copy it on manually!

Unless you have individual packages or drivers installed on the host computer, you can simply download the latest patch to download patches, upload it to a folder on the data store local hosts using the browser of data store and the - either by the vCLI host console - install the patch. To make this power off all the virtual machines and run for example

    software esxcli vib install d vmfs/volumes ///ESXi510 - 201303001.zip

    and the host is restarted.

If you want to check what would do the upgrade - before applying it - you can add the "-dry - run"the above command line argument. "

  • Workstation 7 unable to reserve memory after upgrading the host Windows 8.

I just updated my computer, running VMWare Workstation 7, Windows 8.

Now, when I start a VM, I get a message similar to:

"Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings.  To resolve this problem, increase the support of physical memory for all the virtual machines to XXX MB or adjust the settings of extra memory to enable more virtual memory machine to be swapped. »

    • In the preferences, memory, my memory 7138 MB reserved for all virtual machines.
    • I chose 'Allow more virtual memory machine to swap'
    • Windows Resource Monitor indicates that I have more than 5 GB of free memory.
    • I tried to upgrade to 7.1.6, but that did not fix the problem.

But I am still unable to start any VM - even one with as little as 128 MB of RAM that are entrusted to him.  These are the same VMS I was used to running on Win7 before the upgrade.

I got the same error. What worked for me was to uninstall, reboot, then reinstall as follows:

    1. define the model of compatibility to Setup WinXP SP3 and run as administrator.

    2. install by double-clicking on the Setup

    3. once the installation is completed, set the compatibility to vmware.exe model also be WinXP SP3 and run as administrator.

On workstation 7 starting, I was then able to start my vms without problem.

    VMware Workstation 7.1.6 - 744570. Host is an x 64 i7 - 3520 M with 8 GB of ram running Windows 8 rtm. Administrator account.

  • vCenter Agent pre-upgrade Checker host

Am I correct in interpreting that this utility is NOT necessary if I'm planning to do a wipe and fresh install of ESXi5 on a VI3 environment?

I * think * it looks like patches installed on host computers.

.... Not to mention that the inability to upgrade esx3.x directly to esxi5.

    Thank you

    Hello

Yes, it's true. You will only need this tool if you plan to upgrade an existing installation. If you perform a new installation, you can forget about this tool.

  • vCenter is virtual server - how to upgrade ESX host?

Our vCenter server is a virtual server.  I've been thinking how to run update manager on the host ESX, vCenter is sitting on.   The only thing I can think of is to use the VMware Converter stand alone app and move the vCenter server to another ESX host and then start vCenter / Manager Update on the new ESX host to update the original ESX host.

    Is there an easier way?

you have a shared storage?  If so, go to the host computer running the vCenter VM on, turned off, make a note of the data store that it is, remove the inventory, go to another host, browse the data store, find the vmx file, right-click "add to the inventory.

.. .or you can use VMware Converter to move the VM vCenter.  Another way would be to turn off the VM vCenter and do the upgrade using the CLI interface.

  • What happens to the cleaning after upgrade with Host Update Utility?

    Hello

I've just updated my esx 3.5 to 4.0 using the host update utility.

I noticed that in the data store, it is now the iso esx4.0 and an esxconsole-* folder.

These 2 are always required? or is it safe to remove them after the upgrade? They take a part of the review of the space on the local data store.

    Thanks in advance!

The .iso file may be deleted.

But the esxconsole-* file is the COS for COS vmdk.

If you are unable to delete this folder and you cannot delete the related VMFS data store.

  • How to upgrade vcenter host when the host needs to be in maintenance mode

Hi, I have a host 5.5 with 3 VMs (2 production servers and 1 Server vcenter). Now I see for updating the host using vcenter Update Manager documentation is quite simple. The thing I don't understand until you can fix, the esx host must be in maintenance mode, which means no VMs, including the vcenter server, which is the only way you can do a right click on the host and choose restore. Now how can I fix if the server is in maintenance mode and my vcenter server is down?

I have the vsphere client installed on my laptop, version 5.5, but him, I did not have the remediation option. How can I put my 5.5 esxi host?

    Thank you

With only one host in place and vCenter Server as a virtual machine running on this host, you cannot use Update Manager. Your options are either interactively update the host using a CD or update patch / the host from the command line using esxcli.

  • Upgrading ESX host to day 4 fails with an error "Unable to download .zip bundle offline."

I run the command update the host ESX below. It fails with an error. I used the same command to update the first host in the same cluster and that worked. Try with others and that she fails.

    esxupdate - bundle = / vmfs/volumes / < data store name > //update-from-esx4.0-4.0_update04.zip updated
    Encountered error BundleDownloadError:
    The error data are:
    URL - vmfs/volumes / < data store name > / update - from -.

    Any ideas?

Try first to install the fix for shared data and store that if an error occurs, try to install it from a local. As I recall (we work with vSphere 5 for a long time), we were unable to find the reasons why the update for ESX 4 is not installed since the shared data store, it can be at the level of patches, can be a history of the host...

  • Problem with VCenter server on VM - how to upgrade the host

    Hello.

    I have VM on VCenter.

I can't update the host with patches critical host because he can not enter maintenance mode.

Is it possible to do this?

    Thank you

Best practices so that a VC Server VM on a host of multi with SAN storage environment must be available for the use of compatible hardware for VMotion or VCA VMotion.  If you do not have an environment that allow VCA to then I would say that the best practice is to have the VC server on a physical server - it can even be installed on XP.

  • One of the ESXi host 3 no HW Compatible for ESXi 6 upgrade?

    Hello

There are 3 DELL servers (2 of them are running R530 and 1 is executed R900).

When attempting to upgrade these 5.5 ESXi hosts to ESXi 6, we find that the R900 is no longer supported.

Wonder what is the best way for us to do - keep using ESXi 5.5 or level 2 of them to ESXi 6 and leave remaining on an ESXi 5.5?   We have no intention to replace the R900 in the near future.

    Thank you

If all three hosts are part of the ESXi Cluster, then you must do all the guests at the same version level. Therefore, keep all the on ESXi 5.5

But if you use these host as a standalone ESXi host then you can upgrade the host to ESXi 6 two and let R900 on ESXi 5.5

    Thank you

  • Update Manager upgrade of the ESXi host that he is running in a virtual machine does

That is the question.  Here is some information.  We were a completely virtualized environment for several years.  2 guests ESXi collocated 5.5 to different data centers connected of course by a VPN site-to site.  The VPN itself is provided by VMs and vCenter runs in a VM to one of the sites as Update Manager is to proceed with installing it. If the vCenter and/or VPN VMs are down, we have a very cool backup method to gain access to and manage ESXi and its console.   Some of you who read the rest of the present will be tempted to suggest to architecting our environment differently, but we are very pleased with the way it is thank you very much :-)  Appreciate all the answers but really just responded to this specific question.

The reason why we want to Update Manager is really just to be able to upgrade easily ESXi in the future without enter in the console and the execution of orders, etc.  I realize the documentation and blogs on this topic that ESXi may need to go into maintenance mode and stop the virtual machines running on it (not a cluster if no migration) how ESXi is lose connection to the Update Manager (if the remote host) or a stop Update Manager (if the local host).  So the question is, is that the process of updating managed by Update Manager an atomic operation at that crucial moment or a sequence of operations depend on continuous connectivity and control of Update Manager.  Ddoes ESXi, then perform the upgrade and restart regardless - that would be great - or he'll just stand there in maintenance mode to learn more about disconnected now / stop Manager update pending.

    Your answers are greatly appreciated.

Please, tell me if I understand you:

Ask yourself if you can upgrade the host running Update Manager VM? And you cannot migrate the virtual to another host machine because there is no cluster in place and no shared storage?

If your answer is YES to both questions, I can tell you that you cannot use Update Manager, since you must put your host in Maintenance Mode and therefore you will need to stop all virtual machines running, including the VM Manager Update.

  • host ESXi 4.1 to 5.5 upgrade

    Hi all, hope this helps.

I installed a new 5.5 vcenter and always running a vcenter 4.1, running both at the same time, I have migrated a crowd of 4.1 through to my platform of 5.5 and want to update the host to 5.5 (I have a license), my question is, will this affect my other storage on the san, other hosts on 4.1 run here , and I do not wish to upgrade this one 5.5 if it will affect the other storage on the old vcenter (things always work) he seem quite simple to do, but not sure about that something and can not afford to make the mistake with the old esx environment...

You can upgrade the host ESXi 4.1 managed by vCenter 5.5 without problems. For more safety, unplug the host HBA when you perform the upgrade if you use CF. If I understand correctly, both the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi and ESXi 4.1 hosts existing use same data warehouses. The only drawback I see is after the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi host, do not improve data warehouses of VMFS3 to VMFS5 so as not to affect the environment 4.1 existing.

  • The ESXi host upgrade, replicas linked clones

I am trying to upgrade my 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi ESXi hosts.  I have some clone bound view pools and their replicas that has been created.  Given that these replicas are instant, they can be vmotioned.  What is the best method of upgrading a host ESXi replicas with snapshots on it? Just upgrade the host and let the lines where they are?

    Thanks in advance.

From my experience every time you put the host in maintenance the replica mode is moved offshore to another host in the cluster.   You can then perform you upgrade with no problems.
