Upgrade of VCSA 6.0.0b 6.0 U1 or U1b fails

Hello

So I'll try to upgrade my 6.0.0b U1 or U1b VCSA and these two fail.

Steps I do:

1 downloaded ISO

2 joint ISO Unit

3 SSH to the embedded device vCenter PSC.

4. run the command:

firmware install iso - acceptEulas

firmware install iso - acceptEulas

[2016 02-11 T 23: 21:12.042]: staging of packages of software patches of ISO

[2016 02-11 T 23: 21:12.042]: ISO unmounted successfully

[2016 02-11 T 23: 21:12.042]: CD players have no valid iso patch.

[2016 02-11 T 23: 21:12.042]: installation process has not

The error, with that it fails

So I downloaded the ISO Unit 6.0 KB patch

VMware KB: Full Patch for VMware vCenter Server 6.0

1 attached this ISO Unit

2 run the same command and he staged successfully, but the installation fails with the error:

running test transaction

installation process failed

No access to the VAMI page because this isn't a GA?
Any thoughts?

On a side note, I thought, I can do the following?

1 mount the ISO U1b 6.0 on a windows machine

2. open vcsa.html

3. click on upgrade and provide details of the existing unit.

Will this work?

Suhas

I used the Patch ISO to U1b 6.0, and the upgrade succeeded.

It's pretty funny, the upgrade for the same ISO does not a Friday, but worked on a Monday.

When I try to upgrade a CTS500 to CTS.1-7-0-1-4764R-K9.P1.sbn, it fails.

Shows IP phone: loading... image image not found.

CTS 1.7.0 running (4709) as a step in the meantime of CTS 1.6.7 (4212) but that does not solve the issue.

CTS.1-7-0-1-4764R-K9.P1.SBN is in the directory root (/) of the TFTP server (same as the file 1.7.0 (4709) CTS).

Downloaded the file from the ORC several times without a bit of luck.

Maybe a file corrupted on ORC?

There are serveral questions. Better is to open a service request to examine the papers. Question: You restarted the server TFTP on CUCM, it helped?

The filesystem (vmhgfs module) driver is used only for the shared folder

feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work

    regardless of this function.

If you want the shared folders feature, you can install the driver of

running vmware-config - tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make

and your kernel sources are installed on your computer.

These packages are available on the installation of your distribution CD.

[Press the Enter key to continue]

As Barney42 pointed out, this question comes with the new kernel 3.13.0 - 46. And indeed helped me to find a workaround:

Tools can be patched manually. In vmhgfs.tar, inode.c d_alias should be replaced by d_u.d_alias put it back to the tar and then recompile tools.

Here is a script that does this (tested on ubuntu 32 bit 14.04, vmware workstation on a windows host 11.1):

    #!/bin/sh -x
    cd /usr/lib/vmware-tools/modules/source
    tar xf vmhgfs.tar
    grep -q d_u.d_alias vmhgfs-only/inode.c && echo "already patched" && exit 0
    sed -i -e s/d_alias/d_u.d_alias/ vmhgfs-only/inode.c
    cp -p vmhgfs.tar vmhgfs.tar.orig
    tar cf vmhgfs.tar vmhgfs-only
    vmware-config-tools.pl -d -m

NOTE: This makes incompatible tools with older versions of the kernel, i.e. 3.13.0 - 45.

    (Original post at askubuntu)

However, @VMware-team, please do run again out of the box, or submit a patch for the Linux kernel. You are a large business, should be no problem.

  • VCSA upgrade considerations

We are currently on U2 5.0 and go to 5.5.  I guess that you always first want to vCenter Server and that is why we seek to implement the vCenter Server Appliance.  Thought that if there are problems with the implementation we still have the old Server vCenter to fall back on (no worries on the reconstruction of the database).  The question I have is am I correct in my thinking to upgrade process to VCSA and I can implement third-party plugins such as VSI EMC unit?

I don't think that VSI plugin is still out for web client.

  • Doubts: ESXi ESXi 6.0 upgrade 5.1u1 u1

    Hi all

I already upgraded my VCSA to version 6.0 and had already deployed VDP 6.0 (in fact, I created a new installation and added my hosts in new VCSA and VDP).

Now, it's time to upgrade my two 5.1 ESXi hosts. I have some doubts, and maybe you could help me. After you migrate all my virtual machines to another host, put my host in maintenance mode, disable HA and generate a new license to myvmware.com.

1 - I have a few problems with the Esxi license? Or after upgrade, I just update the licenses and everything will be working well?

    2. after upgrading the first host, my cluster will have a host in version 5.1 and another in version 6.0. Can I make a normal vmotion between these hosts? 3 is a good tip, allow the ESXi host recently updated with VM Tests? To avoid surprises, like the purple screen? 4. it will be mandatory, pass the Vmware tools to all my virtual machines for the HA works?
5 - can I keep my virtual hardware in version 8? 6 - upgrade VMware tools and virtual material, requires that all VM restarts?

    Thanks a bunch

1 - I have a few problems with the Esxi license? Or after upgrade, I just update the licenses and everything will be working well?

After upgrade version 6 of the host, the host starts in trial mode and you have 60 days to assign a vSphere license 6 to the host.

    2. after upgrading the first host, my cluster will have a host in version 5.1 and another in version 6.0. Can I make a normal vmotion between these hosts?

    Yes.

3 is a good tip, allow the ESXi host recently updated with VM Tests? To avoid surprises, like the purple screen?

The first recommendation is to check if your host is on HCL for version 6, this audit will already prevent some problems. And if you can run a few days with the host improved with test VM, I think are a good idea.

    4. it will be mandatory, pass the Vmware tools to all my virtual machines for the HA works?

Not mandatory but recommended, see: is a vSphere VMware Tools upgrade required during the upgrade? - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

5 - can I keep my virtual hardware in version 8?

Yes and my recommendation is to upgrade if you're going to use the new features.

6 - upgrade VMware tools and virtual material, requires that all VM restarts?

Yes material virtual, but VMware Tools depends, see: details on the VMware tools (time zero) 5.1 - VMware vSphere Blog - Articles of VMware vSphere upgrade

It is a standalone PSC and I can connect to the device management https:// < vcsa >: 5480 and apparently in good health. Can I deploy a new VCSA from scratch, but it would be nice if I could fix it.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated!

  • Can upgrade you Vista to 7 if the Windows repair failed?

I'm having a problem with my computer (Vista Ultimate 64) where there is a failure of the system, and it does not start, just restarts. Windows repair has not solved the problem.

Would it not be wise to purchase a Vista upgrade to Windows 7? This update level or likely to fail?

No, you can do a custom installation:

  • Problems of network of phones smart blackBerry after upgrade

After upgrade today, my entire calendar disappeared... and google sync fails!... says connection failed due to network problems, check your settings... Don't know what that means...

    Any ideas? THX

I also got an error that there in no browser configuration. and to contact my provider... what the hell?

1 restore your calendar with Desktop Manager > Backup/Restore > advanced. Search your backup file "loader" most recent ending by ".ipd" and restore the database calendar.

    2. for the browser and other connection issues:

Options > Advanced > host Routing Table > Menu > register.

If still nothing... send your books to your BIS service provider site.

    Hello

This KB2036167 should help you solve this question, but yes, it seems that you have a custom ISO Lenovo, take Dell ESXi 6 ISO here after you perform the steps in the KB and good luck!

    Hope this helps

  • PSC external - VCSA Gets the invalid credentials

I recently deployed a PSC external, using the device of VCSA 6.0 U1 recently made public.  Beginning of the PSC external deployment took place without a hitch.  No problem whatsoever.  However, when it comes to then deploy the VCSA with a PSC external, I get the invalid credentials.

The PSC and VCSA are on the same subnet, and I deploy from my office.  There is no firewall between them and no control of the East-West traffic that could be disturbing the communication.  I can telnet to the PSC to my office on 443.  No internal certs are used, just the standard self-signed certs of VMware.

I do NOT use the PSC HA config where an F5 (or any other load balancing program) comes into play.  Just a PSC and a device of vCenter (with the same configuration in another data center and related enhanced modes enabled... If I ever get to this point).

Any ideas?  I think I've exhausted all the Vmkware KB and google this thing to death.

While this may be caused by an incompatibility of certificate, in my case, it was a problem with the office network.  While port 443 is open to the ESXi host and the PSC external UDP 123 was not, and did not observe in any newspaper, it seems to have been the problem.  NTP on the PSC itself worked fine.

As a test, I tried to deploy VCSA w/year embedded PSC.  This deployment also failed NTP citing it as a problem.  Changing the setting to synchronize with the host allowed FRO deployment to continue.  If you have a similar problem with invalid credentials, this can be a good test for you as well to make sure that UDP 123 is accessible from your desktop.  I don't know why it should be, but I can only assume that the place from which you are running the installation acts as a proxy for communication of all kinds.

So in addition to making sure DNS lookup front and rear work correctly, verify the port 443 to the PSC external target host and if these things are good, try to deploy a device VCSA with the PSC incorporated using NTP for time synchronization.  If this fails, you may need to change your deployment location (unless it's easy for you to get this open port).

Simply, I built a Windows VM base on the same subnet as my other management/infra peripheral, pushed the .iso from a store of data and mounted on this VM and connected to install it there.  Went off without a hitch.

  • Anyobody can help with errpor "Assertion failure" after upgrade to Windows 10

    Hi all

I used to run successfully Lightroom 5.7 on Windows 8, until recently, I've upgraded to Windows 10. Since then, I get an "Assertion failed" error and Lightroom does not open. Now: What can I do? Any idea?
