Compaq presario CQ42: Compaq presario CQ42 HDD Upgrade

Hello!

A good and nice day to all!

I just want to know if it is possible to upgrade my computer laptop (HP Compaq Presario CQ42) drive HARD internal 320 GB (current) upwards up to 1 TB of HARD drive?

Share:

My HARD drive right now is having a problem. I have it parted to partition 2 and it worked for me for a couple of years now. But lately this week, I removed the HDD to be used with an external box to copy some files from my desktop and installed as soon as it is. Unfortunately, when I try to start my laptop, it starts only until windows 8 Logo appears then flashing the screen off a second and turns to a black screen (similar to the background at boot)...

When I put my camera and connect with my desktop, C drive is not recognized more... He sometimes say that I format the drive and there is sometimes no drive at all. While my D drive and his reserved system are present and accessible...

I tried to recover the drive using HDD regenerator, but he says that the disc is fine.

I also tried TestDisk but still no good result...

With what I shared, may be you have some idea of what happened so I would like to know about it...

My real question is how much HARD disk capacity can be improved? I intend to install a 1 TB if posible...

Best regards and thanks a lot for any response...

#IloveHP

Not a good idea to remove a hard drive from a work computer and then attach it to another computer. Permissions can get screwed to the top of this way. If you want to transfer files off the drive just do it on a computer network. But to really tell if the hard drive is to have software or hardware issues you just need to launch the diagnostic hard drive in the BIOS of the laptop. And your question on the 1 TB drive is easy: no problem. You can install a 9.5 mm thickness 2.5 inch wide SATA 1 TB hard drive. They are actually 1.5 TB abd even now, drives of 2 TB and those would be too much work.

  • The Rams - EE of Compaq Presario CQ60-116 upgrade

    Hello

This is my first post so I think I erased my point of view, which may not be 100% good.

    In any case, short story...

    I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 - 116 EA
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00820047

and I would like to upgrade of his memory, I know that it can take up to 4 GB, but I'm not sure of the maximum speed of memory the motherboard can take and use fully without being too high speed. (for example, I won't buy a 1333 MHz Rams beacause I know that it is more than enough and that it is a waste of money)

I am confused between buying a 667 MHz or a 800 MHz. So, could someone give me a hand here please

    Thanks in advance...

  • Presario sg-3320il: upgrade of RAM Compaq presario sg-3320IL

    Hello

My office - compaq presario sg3320il originally supplied with 1 GB ddr2 RAM (2 x 512 MB sticks). I bought a 2 GB Transcend DDR2 800 Mhz RAM stick (model number: JM800QLU - 2G). It worked perfectly when I removed the old sticks pre-installed and added this new RAM stick only (IE, with a total of 2 GB of memory). I bought another stick of 2 GB of RAM - same brand, same frequency, same model number too and now when that is added with the older 2 GB of RAM, it does not work properly. Some weird appears on the start screen for half the time and sometimes when I restart the system, he gets up to system boot and then hangs or restarts.

The two 2 GB RAM when used only work perfectly. Product specifications are here as well as the news of upgrade memory - http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-SG3320IL-Desktop-PC/3697170/model/3707607/docume...

    Help, please

    Hello again @kau_shik_51094,

In the case of 2 RAM sticks not even work together, I suspect that the slot on your motherboard is damaged.

Really, there may be another explanation that your computer works with both sticks independently of each other, but not together and since they are the exact same it leaves only the motherboard as the problem.

I hope this helps. Thanks again for your post on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU: upgrade Ram, memory (Ram Hynix PC3L-12800)

    Hello world

    I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU. I recently decided to upgrade the ram (currently 1 x 2 GB Elpida PC3 - 10600 1333 Mhz). I bought 2 x 4 Gb Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A, PC3L-12800. Unfortunitely when I install the new Ram (Hynix)

the computer does not start. Is there something I can do or the Ram is not compatible?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    André

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See p.2. Specified memory is DDR3-1333 1.5 volt and you try to install low-voltage DDR3-1600. In addition, memory that you are trying to install is high density, because it has 4 blocks on each side, where I am betting that original memory was of low density (8 blocks). Long story short, it is not compatible. It do you no good to install DDR3-1600 by the way. Best of cases, it will anyway be downclock speed 1333.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-416SA: upgrade the Compaq CQ61 wireless card

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-416SA, running 64-bit Windows 7 application. The current wireless card only works on the 2.4 Ghz band and I want to upgrade to a dual band to get the best speed etc. to 5 GHz. I have an Intel Centrino N6230 of replacement card, but the phone will not accept anything other than the default map. At the start, it stops with an error message saying that it will not continue unless the "unauthorized device" is deleted. If I re - install the original wireless card, it starts and works very well, but this is not the point, I would like to update.

I guess that the default is to lock the part of the BIOS of the laptop to prevent alteration unauthorized with laptop computers under warranty, but mine is well outside the guarantee.

I know that the card works because I installed it in my laptop previous and I have been in electronics for 30 years and spent about 5 years of this repair of computers laptops, desktops, servers, etc so I'm sure that I am able to connect a card and the driver installation!

There does anyone know a way around the block? I won't to be able to upgrade the laptop without it.

    Anyone?

Do not completely blame HP, but it was little 1984 involving your federal Government. HP and Lenovo read a few Federal Communications Comm regs on the recording of radio portable wireless (including the computer wifi cards) to require that alternative cards are blocked. Other laptop makers has not agreed and now the 'white list' is history, but there is no effort to go back and make new BIOS for older models.

HP wireless card versions have specific identification in the firmware looking for the HP whitelist before clearing the map to use if you use the version of HP. I looked pretty hard for a version of HP of the card and the one I linked is everything I could find. Google around and you can do better.

  • Compaq Presario CQ5300UK Graphics Upgrade

Hello, I have a Compaq Presario CQ5300UK and I plan on upgrading to a 1 GB graphics card. This card would fit into my PC?

    www.PCWorld.co.uk/gbuk/PNY-NVIDIA-GeForce-gt-430-PCI-e-Graphics-Card-1gb-08623397-PDT.html?intcmpid=...

    Thank you

    Hello:

You should be fine with this card as it meets the specifications of your P/S and has the x 16 PCIe form factor.

I also like that it is a nVidia card, which should play nicely with your card chipset mother nVidia.

Because it has a HDMI port, it can disable your integrated sound card when you install it.

    Be not dismayed.

Simply go into your BIOS, search for the audio setting on board. Change auto to "Enabled". Save the setting here and when you exit the BIOS.

Then you'll once again on board sound and audio HDMI when you connect a TV to your PC with a HDMI cable.

I read your post on the HDMI issue and wanted to help you!

The problem may be the driver.  For your product, all Windows 10 drivers are pushed through Windows Update.  You can try to check for drivers that will work with Windows 10.  You can see this site as well:

  • Compaq Presario CQ57-339WM upgrade CPU for Intel Core i3 2310 M?

    Can I upgrade the processor? : http://ark.intel.com/products/52220/Intel-Core-i3-2310M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_10-GHz

He was given to me by the guardian after that I asked them if they had an available 988 PGA processors

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop. Chapter 1 lists the supported processors.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02948186.PDF

Processor Intel Core i3 2310M is not supported, but the 2330 m.

The Celeron processor you have runs on the chipset Mobile Intel 6 series as either i3.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/products/59570/Intel-Celeron-processor-B800-2m-cache-1_50-GHz

By the book, I must tell you that it won't work.

So, you can try to install at your own risk. It may work correctly, or it may not work at all.

It all depends on if the BIOS has the microcode for the i3-2310 and other firmware supported processor.

    Hi @Bluto2,

    Thanks for the reply.

You can consider going back to the previous window (if the upgrade does not exceed 28 days), or wait for the updates of Windows for the driver.

  • Compaq presario CQ56 103TU: upgrading laptop hard drive

Our computer comes with a 320 GB hard drive. I would like to replace it with a larger. How can I find the larger sizes that I can use without going into what anyone other than the typical installation and the complicated transfer system? I saw a hard drive 1 TB, put on sale. Is - too big for my computer? Or maybe something in the order of 500 to 750 GB. Thank you.

Any laptop that can take a 320 GB drive can also take a 1 TB drive.  The older player size limit was around 120 GB - and that was due to the limits dealing with old BIOS, which disappeared a long time ago.

Also, a very easy way to replace a drive is to buy an external adapter that can connect the new drive via a USB post and 'clone' of the old drive to the new using a third-party product like Macrium Reflect.  I also use this to "clone" SDD HARD disk when I replaced the drives in laptops.

    Good luck

  • Compaq c500: memory no upgrade no good compaq C

People from forum good day. I have another question, that I can't understand, but I have my suspicions. I upgraded a compaq c500 P T2080 double XP to win 7 x 32. It came with 2 GB ram. I tried to put in 1 gig to do 3, then 2 + 2 to 4. In both cases, it would be none even of starting. Is 2 gig the max for this system? Thank you my friends. TFL522

C571nr is model number and yes the maximum memory is 2 GB. The HP service manual is not available online, but third party memory vendors say it tops out at 2 GB, and that's what I remember last time I worked on a few years back:

    https://www.18004memory.com/Compaq-Presario-c571nr.asp

The specified memory is aka pc2-4200 DDR2-533. You aka PC2-6400 DDR2-800, but it will be clocked at 533 mhz not 800

Can be found in Chapter 1, page 1-2 processors supported.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c01035667.PDF

It does not seem that you need to update the BIOS to install the T7200.

There is an update that adds support for a Celeron processor.
