Upgrade XP from SP2 to SP3

Support for WinXP will end in April 2014, but existing support is for only XP SP3.

I just had to reload windows and my installation disc contains only Win XP SP2. It has a link to SP 3 to www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 , but it says that the update of the single computer use the Auto updates. This creates a problem t when you have only SP2 you cannot use auto update for SP3 because SP2 is no longer supported!  When I use the automatic update it does not download anything at the programmed time.  If I try to manually connect to update, it is said that SP2 is trying to connect to the page is not found.

How do I get the version of the single computer to SP3 so I can upgrade from SP2?

    Hello

The problem with viruses on the computer, I would say that you download and run a full scan of the system using the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Here is the link for the Microsoft Safety Scanner which is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    Note:

Data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely.
which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • Accidentally updated my copy of Windows XP from SP2 to SP3. Is this legal?

original title: upgrade WIndows XP error!

I had windows xp edition SP2 family and my friend decided to upgrade using an illegal copy of windows xp service pack 3, is there anyway I can return to my legal version or be able to activate the one I have.

    Thank you

Well, it's not really illegal to install windows on windows.

in other words, let's say your computer preinstalled with windows sp2 came.

then you went to the store and bought windows sp3 and sp2 installed.

the scenario would not be illegal, but it would be a waste of money.

Therefore, if the sp3 of windows that is installed on your system has not been activated on another computer 'or' it was turned off from the other computer, which is uninstalled, then use it on another computer is not illegal.

personally, I have not seen the above scenario so my entry is somewhat limited.   but the good side of things is that if your sp3 windows is activated and can update microsoft servers, then you're ok.

on the good side of things, now you have a bootable xp sp3 cd which can be handy for repairing the operating system if necessary in the future.

in the meantime, don't make any more changes to your system or try to undo what you have now.

First, confirm or not if windows sp3 is still active on another computer or has it been uninstalled from him.

In addition, you may be able to simply replace the new product key with your first.

Take a look at this Web page and look under the tab for xp:

  • Windows XP need to upgrade to SP2 or SP3

    Hello

I have Windows XP SP1.  I need to upgrade to SP2 or SP3.   There are free downloads online.  can I use them? or should I buy from you?  Please me know

    Thanks in advance

You don't need to buy anything. If you check in Windows updates, service packs must be put at your disposal. (Unless it's an illegal copy of XP).

If you installed SP1a, you can ignore the SP2 and go right to SP3. If SP1 is installed, to install the SP2 and SP3.

Before you install, disable your antivirus and anti-spyware such as Windows Defender programs. If you are using another firewall, disable and enable Windows Firewall in the control panel for the installation. Once a requires SP3 and working, you can activate the third-party firewall and put the Windows Firewall. Do not keep the two running.

  • Tecra A9 move from Win XP SP2 to SP3 - questions?

Anyone have trouble with their Tecra A9 when upgrading to Windows XP SP2 to SP3? I've heard horror stories with other laptops that users lock their systems or lose functionality.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

    Hello

I m not Tecra A9 owner but I already installed the SP3 Win and I didn't notice any strange problems after installing SP3.
Of course, it might be possible that some drivers would not fully compatible with some fixes and patches but it seems that I m a lucky guy and there is nothing wrong with my operating system.

But to be honest; I didn't notice any improvement after the installation of Sp3.
However, you can install Sp3 on your system and if you have great compatibility problems you'd still be able to remove the SP3 of the system.

    Welcome them

  • Do I need to install SP2 before SP3? If Yes, where can I find the Microsoft of SP2 version?

I had to re - install Windows XP SP1a, from a CD of resettlement came with my Dell laptop. This was done because I upgraded the hard drive. This facility went well. I went to the Windows Update site to try to get the SP2 and SP3. The webiste is said to SP2 until you can do SP3. The only version of SP2, I find on the website says that it is for the professionals and see the link for the Service Pack to the simple version. When I go on this link there is no one version. Do I need to install SP2 before SP3? If Yes, where can I find the Microsoft of SP2 version? In addition, the site says that automatic updates SP2 but I checked my Configuration of the automatic updates and it will not take anything in. Is there a way to force the automatic update to run immediately? Thanks, Ben

    Ben,

I totally agree with PML, you should be able to set up IE and then go to the Windows updates from there, once you get on the Windows Update site it will scan your system and implement critical updates and optional updates SP2 and SP3 should be on the list. It's a way to force an immediate update.

    I hope this helps.

The only version of Windows, you can upgrade from XP is Vista. If you
want to go to the 7, 8, 8.1, or 10, you must do a clean install,
    not an upgrade.

Note also that if you old computer same peut run a later version, the
the material on your XP - era machine is probably way underpowered to run a
newer version with acceptable performance. So moving to a later
version is not a good idea.

And another point: If you upgrade to a later version, you may need
drivers for it are not available. So before you do anything check
availability of the reader on the Dell web site.

Mr. Ken Blake, thank you very much for your quick response. I understand the concerns regarding an upgrade. So I continue to run the same Windows XP with SP3 until the machine functions

    Thank you very much

  • Error: The installer cannot set Windows XP required configuration information during the upgrade to Windows XP Home SP3 of Windows XP Pro.

Original title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 update XP Pro

Here is a compilation of the messages from another forum regarding
    My problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to upgrade a Windows XP Home Sp3 OEM system to
Windows XP Pro. (There are a few Pro features
that are not available in the House I now need: (1) the files offline and
    (2) an add-on available for free to Onenote 2007, Top2onenote, requires a Pro).
I don't want a clean install, but an upgrade. I bought a Windows XP Pro
Upgrade CD on Ebay that was Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002). I'm sure that's true for the following reasons:

It has been listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".
It seems very authentic with all Microsoft holography.
He came in the standard package of Windows XP (without box),
    and it was sealed.
The name of volume for the CD is WXPFPP_EN. The Internet,.
It is the retail of Windows XP Pro RTM (gold)!

Here are things I tried initially.

    (1) I tried to upgrade to Pro from the purchased CD. It is immediately
has refused to upgrade indicating the upgrade OS (Pro) is older than the
    installed OS (home)...

    (2) I read about "slipstreaming". "Slipstreaming" allows to integrate
a service pack with an earlier version of the operating system. I created a
upgrade XP Pro SP3 with Nlite slipstreamed CD image (and
Autostreamer later, but it made no difference) from the purchased CD
    and a file containing SP3.

After you burn the CD and start the upgrade
    (Windows installation), the upgrade process
    product through "information collection."
"Dynamic update" and "Preparation of Installation" with
no problems. My computer restarted and returned to
"Installation preparation". A progress bar called 'Progress '.
quickly filled to about 90% and the hanging system
at that time there for about 15 minutes.
Then, I got the following error message:

Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal Setup error.

This is where I am stuck. I had to leave the installation at this point.
My drive is starts raining and I had to restore a backup.

    (3) just for the heck of it, I formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled my original OEM XP Home SP3 OS (no clean up, no user file).
I immediately used my XP CD slipstreamed Pro to try one
upgrade to XP Pro and IT WORKED! I need to find out why the
properly clean XP Home OS upgraded to XP Pro but my pre-existing
(with the files users, drivers, etc..) XP Home OS does not level
    successfully to XP Pro.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

Yet once, today, I installed a new copy of OEM Windows XP Home Sp3.
I continue with installation of all the essential and the add-on
pilots (essentially all my original version). Then, I
set up a network connection and firewall. With this configuration,.
I ran the Pro XP slipstreamed SP3 CD. The upgrade to XP Pro
success (even if the upgrade not configured my graphics
card properly). I guess my current problem is either the registry,
the WINDOWS, some user file or parameter file.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

I made a file and the backup of the folder C:\Windows folder
on my system that is pre-existing (OEM XP Home Sp3). I also did a
separate the backup the State of the 'system' on my pre-existing system.
These are added my full image backup of her pre-existing
    system a month ago.

I did a backup image of my system (minimum fees OEM XP Home
SP3 with all the original installed drivers over a network configured
connection and a firewall configured). This system will upgrade
XP Pro with XP Pro SP3 slipstreamed CD successfully.

    Experiment 1:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the C:/Windows folder
and the State of the pre-existing system backup system. A startup
has managed (with a minor irritant). I had to activate Windows.
Then, I tried upgrading the slipstreamed XP Pro processor. He stopped
at the same place during the upgrade and gave the same error as before:

Setup cannot set the required configuration information Windows XP.
This indicates an internal Setup error.

    Experiment 2:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the system state only
the backup of the pre-existing system. After startup I was asked to
activate Windows, but answer Yes to the question would be to disconnect me
the system. I couldn't get connected to try the XP Pro upgrade.

    Experience 3:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored only the C:/Windows
the backup of the pre-existing system folder. Once again, as in experiment 1,
the upgrade failed at the same place with the same error message.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the experiment 3, I hoped that 3 experience would succeed so I
could conclude that I had a registry problem. I'm not sure now.
I don't know what to try next. Take the minimum system and reinstalling
my files of the user is not an option that my hard drive has over 200 GB of
programs! If I restore all files and folders of my pre-existing
I would still have backup to restore a system state the reliable (read the registry).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the length! If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your responses.

    Thank you
