Upgrading a CPU in a Satellite Satellite L40 - 12W

Hello world

I am the owner of a portable satellite L40,
For now its has got a processor intel celeron M 520 1.6 Mhz inside.
I was wondering what the maximum CPU I would be able to upgrade to.

A manual for the motherboard inside the laptop would be great (that Toshiba does not tell you much).

Thanks for any help
Shaun

Hi Tomica

I appreciate your help, but I'm still curious why people want to do CPU upgrade on laptops. I hope that someone of you can give me some explanations in this regard.
There are the facts:
Series of portable satellite has so many different models with different hardware platforms, and if you paid a little more money you might have much better notebook as L40. As far as I know the Satellite L series are notebooks budget. They are no expensive but not with the best material inside.

So now you have bought this laptop budget and want to disassemble the entire laptop, probably to buy a new CPU (should be pretty cheap) and try to make mobile a lot better.

Please can you me why work together if for 200 or maybe 300 euros more, you might have much better laptop. This means: improve hardware (CPU, RAM, HARD drive and maybe harman/kardon speakers), best design and also better software (OS version).

In any case I wish you good luck with replacement of the CPU.

  • Wanting to upgrade the CPU in the satellite L20 196

    Hello

I'm new to this forum but have owned this laptop new a moment right now. As time has passed I noticed he has aged rapidly in recent months and needs a boost of speed.
I upgraded the RAM, a matching pair to 1 GB (896 MB showing, guess that's graphic shared?), but still not quite quickly enough.

My question is, can I upgrade the processor to a Pentium M or at least a faster Celeron?
If Yes, then what is the best possible processor that will be compatible? Autour Googling, I see I'm not alone on this idea, but all the info and comments where other L20 and not my model 196 in question.
Do I have reason to believe that the limits are 400 Mhz FSB, 1.5 GHz and 478 pins for this laptop?
Finally, I replaced and rebuilt a lot of PC in the past. A laptop (my L20) is much more difficult to remove and replace a CPU?

Thank you and look forward to any comments thereon.

In General, the CPU upgrade is not supported. More info on what you can read under http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

To be clear. Your Satellite L20 is really not the best laptop and on the scale of 1 to 5 when 5 of the best, I give your laptop 2. This laptop is designed for day-to-day activities like Office, internet, watching movies, listening to music and writing emails. So I think that with the preinstalled operating system and well set to own and 1 GB of RAM, it must have enough power for this.

I don't know what you want to do with this good old classic, but if you need laptop with more power for games or multimedia activities, I think it's time for the new laptop computer.

Please don't be crazy on me because I did not offer exact answer, but I just want to be realistic and honest with you.

  • Can I upgrade the CPU T2310 Satellite Pro L40 - 15A series laptop PC?

Hi, (I apologize if this has been asked before, but when I search 'Satellite pro l40 series' I couldn't find any relevant response)

I've been looking around the net & found contradictory answers to this question so far, so I hope that this forum may be able to help.

I have a 15 D portable computer Satellite pro L40 and I want to upgrade the processor Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.46 Ghz T2310 an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4300 2.1 GHz 1 MB 800 CPU or something similar.

I found the following issues http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshiba-Satellite-L40-14N-Notebook.7294.0.html

"f consider you a CPU upgrade, there is not a lot of options." The Intel GL960 value express notebook chip supports only up to FSB 533 Mhz processors. So, does not allow most of the Core 2 Duo CPU update (with 667 MHz). "

But then, I also read that the GL960 can run 800 MHz processors?

I also asked the question on ebay to the seller of the CPU T2310 & received this response

«SHOULD be OK, but your T2310 533 Mhz FSB and the T4300 has 800 Mhz.»

Motherboards intel more modern should easily accept a 800 mhz cpu, but I cannot guarantee. May be an idea to see if you can find out if there are other models of Toshiba L40, also with 800 mhz chip, because it would be a good indicator.

And if I can't pass a T2310 because of the 800 mhz too is their a 533 mhz cpu that will be compatible & more powerful for audio production that my current Ghz CPU T2310 1.46.

I've only had this PC 4 years again, it seems not to be very mobile friendly if this resource could not be designed to handle upgrades.

    Thanks for the tips.

I want to change the processor in my laptop with an intel t2310 (1.46 Ghz/1 MB cache) and I tried with a t7200 intel but is not worked.
Can someone tell me what processors installed in the laptop.

    Thank you
    Hugo

    Hello

You can only use the CPU that is supported by the chipset and BIOS.
As far as I know the computer Satellite L40/EQUIUM L40/Satellite Pro L40/Satellite L45 is equipped with a processor Intel Pentium Duo or Intel Celeron M Processor.

    These processors were built in:

    Pentium processor (533 MHz) Duo clocked at 1.6 GHz (T2060) 1.73 GHz (T2080) / 1.86 GHz (T2090) / 1.86 GHz (T2130)

    and

    Celeron processor (533 MHz) 1.73GHz GHz 1.86 M (430)

I think you can use these processors.

  • Satellite L40-139 - supportΘes CPU?

    Hello!

Help with replacement of the processor.

Laptop Toshiba Satellite L40-139 model: PSL40E-02R02GRU

What he took in charge processors? What a power outlet? I'm on the site could not find the right information.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

Generally, the upgrade of the CPU is not so easy as on desktop PC.
There are many reasons why CPU upgrade would not be recommended.

    (1) the faster CPU creates more heat dissipation, which leads to a higher temperature and this may affect the functionality of the laptop
    (2) the BIOS has not been configured for another CPU and there may be a compatibility issue.
    (3) computer laptop disassembly is not easy very difficult for someone who has never taken apart a laptop.
    (4) you will not see performance boosts after upgrade CPU.

But if you want to know which processor is compatible so check what CPU is supported by chipset in Notepad
    The Chipset is INTEL 943GML.

  • Upgrade CPU of my Satellite Pro L300-152

    Hello

    my laptop is a:

    Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-152
    Model no. PSLB1E-01R015EN
    Celeron 560 2.13 GHz

Can someone tell me what CPU I can pass safely, I use it in a cool environment and care about a few 100 mhz more of her.

    Thank you for your support

Before you start to discuss CPU upgrade, check it please this Toshiba document - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

My personal opinion is that upgrading the CPU won't help much and you will not realize a difference in performance for laptop. In my opinion need more RAM or SSD better and faster. This better and better performance some CPU with 100 mhz dating more than one.

  • Satellite L40 - 139 - I want to upgrade the RAM

    Hello
    My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 PSL40E model, operating system Windows XP SP3, 1 024 DDR2 RAM (667 MHz) (512 + 512).

    I want to increase the RAM memory using 2048 DDR2 RAM (1024 + 1024).

Laptop manual can not find if support * _dual-channel memory_ *, which requires a dual-channel-capable motherboard. Theoretically, this technology double data rate of the memory.
Someone has the manual for this laptop motheboard, or may indicate the site for download?

    Apologies for my bad English.
    Thank you.

    Hello!

Satellite L40-139 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. You can buy two modules with 1 GB of capacity with the specifications of DDR2 at 667 MHz.
If you use two modules, they run in dual channel mode.

The manual of the motherboard or repair for Toshiba laptops cannot be downloaded. They are only available if ASP.

  • Satellite L40 - 14N - RAM who do I take for an upgrade?

    Hello, I have a Satellite L40 - 14N with 1 GB of RAM, and I'm using Vista.

I have been informed that a bit more RAM would be better so I think to upgrade. On the Toshiba product page, it says that the maximum is 2 GB, and now I'm wondering if it is better to get a key of 1 extra GB or to replace the 1 GB with a 2 GB one?

    Hello

Satellite L40 - 14N supports up to 2 GB of RAM maximum, you said.

You buy an extra RAM or you replace the 1 GB with a 2 GB module. It s you according to what you do.
In your case I would buy an additional 1 GB module because it does not cost so much and I n t see a reason why you should use a single module.

For the upgrade, you need a memory SO-DIMM PC2-5300 Module.

  • Satellite L40-143 (PSL40E-04E00LGR) - memory upgrade

I want to upgrade the memory of my laptop: Satellite L40 - 143 Modell Nr.: PSL40E-04E00LGR

I can find my phone on the support site and the following information for the memory (which is consistent with the information I have):

    Standard: 1,024 (512 + 512) MB
    Max Erweiterbarkeit: 2.048 MB
    Technology: DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)

I understand I can go to a maximum of 2 GB. I have two questions:

    1. question:
By clicking on: 'Zubehör' I get the suggestion to buy the next memory:

    1024 MB (1 GB) memory PC2 - 4300 DDR2 (533 MHz) PA3411U-2M1G
    512 MB memory PC2 - 4300 DDR2 (533 MHz) PA3412S - 2M 51

It is however 533 MhZ DDR2 PC4300, in my manual and on the technical page details it says PC 5300 at 667 MHZ, well? What is the good memory to buy?

    2. question:
I now have 512 + 512 MB in the notebook. Can I buy a single module 2 GB instead of the two modules of 1 GB?

    Thanks for the replies!

    Hello

In your case, I would like to buy RAM with the specifications of the user manual. In the worst cases it runs only on 533 MHz but I tried a little with Google and it seems that the laptop is using 667 MHz modules.
Moreover, I can recommend high-quality Kingston memory.

Regarding your last question, you can only buy two 1 GB modules. It is the maximum capacity for each RAM module.

  • Satellite L40 - 16 d: update CPU & PC card question

    Hello

I have Satellite L40 - 16 d PSL48-E and I want to know who is the fastest processor I can put on?

In the upper right corner, I have a dummy card. What can I put on this decision?

    THX

Don t think you could improve the laptop with a faster processor due to overheating problems. A faster CPU produces more heat, and this leads to overheating.
But as I know the Dual-Core CPU T2310 1.46GHz was installed on this notebook.
Theoretically, an another Dual-Core CPU could be inserted but practically it of desirable and in most cases the wouldn t stable performance specifications.
Last but not least, you will lose the warranty!

    With regard to the issue of card slot;
Well, some Web sites said that this laptop runs the Express card. That is why it s an ExpressCard slot ;)

  • How to upgrade video memory on Satellite L40 - 17R?

I have laptop Toshiba Satellite L40 - 17R with 2 GB RAM and I want to upgade my video memory: 256 MB Max (384MB). How can I do this?

Unfortunately you can not upgrade you RAM physically as your video RAM is just shared memory.

You can try to increase the amount of RAM in the BIOS because the video RAM should be a shared memory. If you can't find some options in the BIOS, that allows to increase the amount of video RAM, then you won´t be able to update...

To learn more about shared memory, please see the following site:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_Memory_Architecture

I must also tell you that even if you would be able to increase the amount of graphics memory shared, it won´t affect performance not really since the system RAM is slower then a sort of RAM dedicated.

  • Satellite L40 - question about the CPU temperature

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 17 Q with Intel Celeron M CPU.

The usual device temperature is about 60 degrees Celsius. I read that the Tj to this type of processors is 100 degrees Celsius.

So my question is dedicated to the owners of laptops equipped with Intel Celeron M processors and of course for the hardware gurus.
Is the operative temperature of 60 degrees Celsius of normal, and if not how do I decrease.
My laptop is new and I make sure that the air flow openings are not jammed.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello

Don't worry, the CPU temperature. 60 degrees Celsius is certainly within the normal range, and there is no reason to worry about this. On my laptop Tecra, I noticed the temperature CPU about 62 degrees Celsius and drive HARD around 40 degrees Celsius.

  • Temperature of the battery and CPU on Satellite L40

    Hello.
I just realized that when I'm recharching battery and with my laptop (a Satellite L40) the CPU temperature triggered about 10 C do you know if this is normal?
    Thank you.

Are you sure, that the temperature of the CPU is only raises only when you charge the battery?
    Not heard of it yet.

I know that the temperature becomes higher, when you work on your computer laptop, but just by charging? This is new for me.
Can you tell what temperature is before?

  • Satellite L40 CPU is too hot?

I just bought a Satellite L40 with a intel T2370 processor and I have a feeling that its temperature is high enough.
Everest ultimate sensors show a temperature around 70 c during operation.

    This temperature is normal?
Other users have a similar temperature?

    Thank you.

    Hello

The temperature of your laptops is certainly not too high!

    You need to know some important facts;
First a few 3rd party tools don t always provide values for temperature of 100%!
Second, the internal temperature is constantly changing.

Running some games, videos, or other high performance programs would lead to higher heat dissipation and a higher temperature
This is a common behavior of laptop so don t be worried that something is wrong with your laptop ;)

By the way; the laptop supports an overheating protection. It will stop automatically if the temperature is too high.
If the computer laptop doesn t turns off automatically, your CPU temp is ok.

    Good bye
