URI format for shared local files

Firefox uses this format to access shared files on a LAN... file:///host/path for example file:///computername/sharename/MyDocs/filename.txt.

This format is different from the standard form file://host/path that is used on other browsers, such Windows, Chrome.

This means Firefox doesn't gives me access to shared files when I coded in standard format URI in my local HTML documents. Why is Firefox different or non-standard.

Hi seebee, file:///host/path apparently is the standard form for a unc path:

"It's five slashes - two for the Protocol, one to indicate the root of the file system, and then two more to indicate the beginning of the name of the server.

  • Options for sharing local storage

    I work with a test environment and familiarize myself with some of the more advanced options of VMWare.

    Currently, in our lab, I have a server that has a ton of direct-attached storage. We have a San were included in the budget by the end of this year, but in the meantime, I would like to use this server as a substitute of SAN.

    I'm looking for the cleaner way to do this under ESXi 5, preferably without spending any extra money. We have licenses for the VSA, but it seems that I can't use VSA without several servers in a cluster - which I did not. Is there a way to take advantage of VSA without creating a cluster VSA?

    Is there a way do this within VMWare infrastructure that does not involve using something like FreeNAS or a similar solution, which will eventually create giant VMDK files that I have to deal with? I mean, I could lift a virtual server with a huge VMDK attached and ask one of the software solutions to give me iSCSI targets, but it seems hardly elegant. I might just install FreeNAS on bare metal server, but then I lose the use of the VMS host server.

    Forgive me if this is basic - I did some research first. I am looking for a way to use the data store (s) on this machine for other servers who lack storage space.

    Edit - not sure I understand the question / Setup... If the server that has a ton of local storage is already running ESXi?

    "I'm looking for a way to use the data store (s) on this machine for other servers that don't have storage space" "

    With the exception of the magic and mirrors behind VSA, ESXi does not have the ability to share a local data store. This data store must live somewhere else and be introduced to several machines in the way of an NFS share, target iSCSI or FC LUNS.

    I was in that same boat a year ago--a company hired me on for a large project of VMware without realizing that the shared storage is the key to an installation of VMware. They ordered servers with cargoes of physical local storage. Oops. Finally convinced a SAN is the only way (this is also before the release of v5, therefore not VSA). We have since removed all disks, and have most of them redeployed elsewhere (a dedup backup on a physical computer).

  • Failed to open local files with v11.0.06 ("not supported or damaged")

    Hello!

    We had some recent problems with the new Adobe Reader XI v11.0.06.

    Cannot open some (currently two) files with the new version - although they can be opened with previous versions (9.4.3 and 10.1.0).

    Following error message is displayed:

    "Adobe Reader could not open 'asdf.pdf' because it is not a type of supported file or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an attachment to e-mail and has not been correctly decoded)." -(I hope that's it, I use the German version)

    (Professional Win7 SP1 64-bit)

    Thank you!

    Thank you for sharing the file. We asked a lot of people to share their files problem, but nobody seems to have succeeded before.

    This tells us two things.

    1. the file has % PDF very near the beginning, but not at THE beginning.

    2. it was made by a software called Sub Systems, Inc., who has done some questionable things (with for example a vacuum creation date is false).

    Adobe used to try to open files which had % PDF at the beginning, but now they have not. Apparently, it's a security thing. Here are some details and a workaround:

  • Installation of airport for sharing files on multiple devices

    Hoping for insurance that I have not bought the wrong thing if you please...

    Just bought a Time Capsule of airport in the belief that it can be used for WiFi sharing of files between an iMac running El captain, two iPads, (including the paces) and various iPhone 6. All running the latest OS version popular with all updates.

    I have a WiFi router from sky as the main broadband connection and connected the Airport via the cable.

    Here's where I fight - I can't figure out how to see my iPhone files. I have Airport utility loaded and he can see the airport and the new network created during the installation. I'm unable to access the drive, however. I have external hard drives I can connect to it for extra storage shared but that beats the type of object for me.

    Heres so gasoline:

    I put in the airport place incorrectly

    I caused the problem by creating a new network

    I should junk the router from the sky

    I have to use iTunes etc to access shared files

    I send back to the airport and buy something else

    Or otherwise I'm just a techno-pleb?

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

    Apple has not designed the iOS to work the way you plan to use. It is not planned to work at the level of the files at all.

    So, to access the files on the TC, you must use a third-party application... the best known is the filebrowser. But there are others.

    Even if it won't the ipad works as a computer... It is not expected to be used this way.

    There is nothing wrong with the TC... It's probably the best device for work... Since no other hard drive Wireless will do better. The question is purely iOS not TB.

  • Block 10 FireFox accesses local files the same source in Ajax? Chrome for this, but the workaround is - disable-web-security.

    I have a few Ajax in a test program that is accessing a local file. It worked well until I updated to Firefox 10. 10 Firefox blocks access to local files, even if they have the same source location? Chrome has this problem but I can overcome it by launching Chrome with the "-disable-web-security" option. Is there a similar to Firefox 10 option?

  • Change the default format for burning discs of this system active files in the ISO image format

    How can I change the default format for burning discs of this system of active files to ISO image format?  I don't want the active file as the default system and really don't want to have to choose what I want to use the default every time.  It's boring. I have Vista x 64 on my computer and have not yet adapted to all the changes in XP.

    Thanks, but it's not useful.  It is more that an 'improvement' Microsoft did that, as I fear, is a total and far failure to be an improvement.  It also means that I'll just use a 3rd party program to burn all my CD/DVDs.  You know if I wanted to be able to remove, reformat, etc.. CD/DVD I would use those rewritable.  That's why they exist.

  • QNXStageWebView broken for local files now?

    Hi all

    I try to load a string as html in a QNXStageWebView and having difficulty doing so. The code looks like this:

    entryWebView = new QNXStageWebView();

    entryWebView.enableCookies = true;

    entryWebView.addEventListener (Event.COMPLETE, loadEntryWebView);

    entryWebView.loadString (string);

    It does not; I see a webView white, white window. Furthermore, entryWebView is a variable of class declared as follows:

    private var entryWebView:QNXStageWebView = null;

    OK, I think loadString could not be implemented. So, I try the following, I've read these tips very as a solution to need to load local files. Now, because this is a dynamic content, I would have to save an html file and then load it. Obviously not a long term solution, but good enough, until that loadString works.

    entryWebView = new QNXStageWebView();

    entryWebView.enableCookies = true;

    entryWebView.addEventListener (Event.COMPLETE, loadEntryWebView);

    entryWebView.loadURL (File.applicationDirectory.nativePath + "upploadare");

    When the file is of course named upploadare and stored in the src folder in my project.

    This will display an error message in the web view, which reads: error. The browser doesn't know how to manage this web page. Try again.

    I think that HTML in my file may be malformed. Yet any html I try, this same error pops up.

    Just to make sure that I do everything else right, I check if the entryWebView will be responsible for google based on the url. He does.

    What I am doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

    EDIT: Tried again a thing. I specified an invalid path and the same error message as above is received.

    I currently have the same problem during the test with loadString(), so I decided to find the source of the problem with the loadURL() and local files.

    As you have discovered, QNXStageWebView can't handle app: or app-storage: URL.  For local stuff, therefore, give him a file: URL.

    Unfortunately, when you use File.applicationDirectory as basis (whether by incorrectly simply concatenating ' / upploadare ' or properly using resolvePath ("file.html)), the prefix of the url that is stuck in there rest app.:

    What you are doing by entering the nativePath are a start, but you're going to all this trouble, technically.  This is not to say it won't work in your particular case... just that it might not work always and there are a few alternatives that are safer.

    It is not because the URLS are encoded, while native paths are not.  When you use either one, you will probably run in disorders whenever you have special characters, such as spaces.

    Here's a safe alternative.  Use File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath ('file.html') to get an app: refer to the file, and then take the native path and use it to construct a new file object:

    var appPath:File = File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath('file.html');
    var filePath:File = new File(appPath.nativePath);
    webView.loadURL(filePath.url);
    // Note: use of "new File()" and filePath.url

    Another option is to find the relative path to the current directory of the application when it runs.  To do this, you must do this:

    // in your constructorNativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(InvokeEvent.INVOKE, onInvoke);

    // use current dir from event, and PB-specific relative path
    private function onInvoke(e:InvokeEvent):void {
        var path:File = e.currentDirectory.resolvePath('app/air/file.html');
        webView.loadUrl(path.url);
    }

    I don't like it, because it depends on currently undocumented (except available to sandbox of Elena post) where the file would be.

    As it turns out, however, there is another approach, you might like: ;-)

    var content:String = "

    test page

    "; webView.loadStringWithBase(content, '');

    Well Yes, you guessed it.  Although loadString() fails for reasons unknown, using the above and any base (none that I tried, including an empty string) seems to work.  Yay for me!

  • Pages showing "in miniature" (only for Firefox only, remote files) Chrome and local files is displayed correctly.

    Hello, all. I have a real headache, here. I hope someone can help.

    When I use "Preview in browser" (set to FIrefox) all pages of the site appear at the size you want (1280w x different heights). (Firefox is, of course, display of local files). But when I visit your site on the web (remote server files display) the pages are all pretty small, about half the size, width, and height. It drives me crazy. I am quite sure, this is the same code page, and it is the same browser (Firefox), how this could happen? Chrome displays the site very well, if local or remote files are being viewed. The site is http://spareplanetdesign.com (design of clothes, NOT of Web design. Of course, I'm not qualified for web design, lol)

    Many thanks if you can resolve this problem before my head explodes!

    Thank you, Ben. That solved, more or less

    What was going on, it was Firefox "remembers" the zoom last level used when displaying a particular url. I must have zoomed out at some point, while displaying the web url, so that FF will always display this url with zoom back. ' ' As 'Preview in browser' is a different url (a local file path), he was "known" and displays a (normal) different zoom level. "I'm a little embarrassed to do not understand that, as a first step, but I'll leave this thread cancelled, just in case anyone else has experienced this' problem '.

  • Best file format for Illustrator and PS files be placed in the ID

    I am writing a proposal using InDesign. It will output to PDF format for circulation among members of the team; I guess they will be view on a variety of screens and some will be to print on various desktop printers.

    I have a variety of images, all in color, in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to be included in the proposal. Varies from 5 x 7 to 2 x 2. Some are quite complex with fine detail.

    I just saw the proposal in preview overprinting ID / high quality display. The images don't look great. A lot of jagged lines.

    I usually save all in JPEG format with a quality of 80-90... but it's just a habit, I have no reason or justification for this practice.

    I wonder if I should go back to the original files of ID, PS and and save it back as something else before and then place them again.

    Does anyone have recommendations or thoughts to offer?

    I use CS4 on Mac. My computer is a little underpowered for the project at hand, but I'm willing to put up with a bit of slow performance and lag if it translates into a better final product.

    Irregular line is a feature of low resolution, no type of file or an overview screen lower quality than you think that you are using. Check the display performance settings again to make sure they are really good, and if they are configured to allow object level settings, you will need to make sure that each object is also correctly.

    Beond that record in .jpeg format is always destructive. For the web, it's nice, but for printing, you should never use anything, in my opinion, but the quality parameters for registration of JPEG files, and I recommend using jpeg at all. If your picture is that all raster data (pixels) Save .psd or .tif. If she has live type or any other vector content, save it as a Photoshop PDF. In Illustrator to save as .ai or PDF with Illustrator editing capability. If you change the extension of the files PDF Photoshop PDP they open in Photoshop rather than Acrobat when you use Edit Original.

    As I said, the effects of stairs are a feature of low resolution. We often have people tell us that the file is 300 dpi, but it turns out that it is a very small dimension and the imaga is furred in ID. Both links and information signs can show you the information of resolution of your images. There will be two numbers, real and effective. Effective resolution is the only number that is important. I would like to see a minimum of 150 dpi for printing on a desktop printer, but you could get away with as little as 90 for a non-critical image. Press 300 ppi would be the rule, and a fall below 200 asking trouble.

    How the file looks like ID is not nearly as informative as how a PDF file that was exported in the file looks like, or prints. For a high image resolution in the ID you are still looking at an overview of screen resolution lower, not the actual image, because she will be out. Export settings that downsample too far or apply too much compression to reduce file size also can turn a good document in an old piece of junk.
