XP Home only 2 users can access the internet

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1300 Windows XP sp3.  I'm the only user for a few years until I've added my son as a different user (with administrator privileges).

I have been using a USB WiFi dongle with success.
However when my son connects, it cannot access the internet - not even with a link of ethernet wired router to wide band.
I can ping sites like yahoo.com, but not access via a browser.
Help, please
Thank you
David E.

Hi David,

1. what browser do you use to visit Web sites?

2. If you are using Internet Explorer, then what is the version?

3. What is the error message when you access a Web site?

4. what security software is installed on the computer?

I suggest you try the following steps if you use Internet Explorer to browse.

Method 1: How to reset Internet Explorer settings

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note: Reset the Internet Explorer settings can reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings

Check if the problem persists.

Method 2: Create a new user account

The user account may be damaged and because who you may not have access to the Internet. I suggest to create a new account and check.

To add a new user to the computer

http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/usercpl_add_user.mspx?mfr=true

If the problem does not occur in the new user account, and then transfer the data from the old account to the new account.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

  • Can I create pages that only authorized users can access?

I need to create pages that only authorized users can access, is - it possible to do away with the Muse?

Site manager should be included in section admin, please give me the url of the site to take a peek.

Regarding the other question, you want to create an intranet site for employees of the company or site of secure content where users would have to login before they can access the content?

If its with intranet then it would not be possible with BC because that website hosting in British Colombia will be on the web and may not be restricted on the intranet site, you can create the site of Muse and upload to the server of third party or company where it can be used as intranet site.

With a secure content, you can secure pages and the content created on end of BC and use the connection on the home page.

    Thank you

    Hi Rickravel,

    1. what type of account you use?

    2. This only happens when you access Internet?

    3. when the problem started?

    4. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

    Step 1:

You can start in safe mode with network and see if the problem occurs in the account.

You can see the following link to start in safe mode with network.

Start your computer in safe mode

Note: Restart the computer to boot into normal mode.

    Step 2:

If you use Internet explorer, then you can try to disable add ons and check if it helps:

Run Internet explorer with no Add - ons. Steps to open Internet with no mode of modules:

    a. click on start

    (b) in the search box, type in Internet explore

    c. Select Internet (no add-on mode)

If you were able to access the Web site without any problems, then the module may cause the error.

You can read the following article and try the steps to activate the modules individually determine which Add - ons may be the cause of the problem.

How the modules of the browser affect my computer?

  • Can someone tell me how I can access the internet on my laptop to someone else's House?

I want to take my computer on a visit, I can access the internet at home someone else with their supplier?

    Hi Huw,

If it is a WIFI connection and they provide the access codes and Setup appropriate (and maybe even if they are not depending on how they are configured), it should be no problem.  You will probably need to create a new connection to connect to their network and possibly another new connection to connect to internet (if they are separated).  I created portable work of my wife to work from home in less than 5 minutes.

If you need to connect with a cable, then you need a cable and they need a way to connect to their network or their internet connection or even a computer connected to the internet connection can be used by ICS to give you access (even once, after you have setup the proper connections and codes installation).

The following may or may not be of help (although designed for Vista, you can get the general idea on their part and XP and W7will be similar and you should be able to work out the differences - if not, look how configure wireless internet access in "The BONES" of aid):

Here is a tutorial on how to set up a home network (including a wireless)-click on additional links for more information that may be helpful: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Setting-up-a-home-network.

Here is an article on troubleshooting network connections wireless (with links): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-network-connection-problems.

Here's a long guide on wireless internet connections in Vista: http://www.techwarelabs.com/guides/misc_mod/vistaconnection/.

Here is an article on how to set up wireless internet in Vista: http://www.clpgh.org/usingthelibrary/technology/wireless/WindowsVista.pdf

The truth is it is relatively easy and is done all the time by many people.  Think about all the people with laptops who take their origin and work at the same time and maybe even at Starbucks.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • computers shows no internet connection but can access the internet

Lately, my internet has been slow. Also, I had problems to connect to some sites to download some updates and product registration. I'd get a message that there is no internet connection detected. That's when I noticed that the network icon would increase from 2 computers with a blue dot on them to just 2 computers. I checked my "network and sharing Center" and it showed that I am not connected to the internet (red x on the line between the network and internet connection)... I can still access the internet and navigate well. When I tried to diagnose and repair, I get this message.

"You need to register with the provider of internet services of this network to have access to the internet" and below "connections to Web pages are currently redirected to a different Web page"

"Click to open the Web page, if it is an Internet service provider registration page you can read the registration information."

When I clicked and it took me to http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx.

I turned my modem and the new, and it seems to connect again. I just started experiencing this recently (in the last week).  Can someone help me solve this problem?

He seemed to have solved the problem. I went into the Device Manager and disabled my network card and enabled then again. I'm also done to restore my system to the rear before the problem started then uninstalled and reinstalled NIS2011. I have not reinstalled IE9 yet. Thanks for the help
