USB Wifi between host (Win7) and comments (Ubuntu)

Hi all

I learn some stuff of WiFi security, and I installed Ubuntu in my VMWare Workstation 11 environment. My host OS is Windows 7, which is connected to my home network via Wifi

Now, what I need is in the OS (i.e. Ubuntu) invited, I should be able to allow wireless access (so that I can run Wifi network scans etc.). I filled my network and laso used NAT, that give me access to my home network via my host, but they appear as wired connections in Ubuntu. If I understand correctly, this is possible by using a USB WiFi dongle.

I bought a USB WiFi dongle now (it should arrive in a few days), but I don't know how can I get my Ubuntu OS guest to use this USB Wifi adapter while keeping my OS host on the built-in Wifi adapter.

Simple I plug in the USB network adapter in my laptop and it will be recognized in Ubuntu or whatever I need to do some settings in VMware?

Thanks in advance

I got this job, post my answer for posterity

I bought a TP Link WN823N USB Wifi adapter.

(1) keep your host Wifi on. Plug the USB, let it download the drivers
(2) once installed, turn on your virtual machine
(3) open VMWare, right-click on your VM-> removable devices
Here, you should see your USB adapter. Select Connect (disconnect from the host). He will now connect the adapter USB Wifi for your Linux VM and alto - it should work!

What it does is essentially the WiFi adapter will be connected to the virtual machine and disconnected from the host and the host can continue to use the built-in WiF

Yes, you can. Just do Datastore on 3.5 host LUN to be sure.

  • Understand the memory host memory and comments tab

    Hello everyone!

In the computer virtual host memory resource assignment tab and the host cpu resources consumed in the physical machine (esxi host) and the memory of comments is close to the resources consumed to the virtual machines guests, correct?

    Sena.

    SENA,

The memory of the host is the amount of memory host the VM uses against what has been allocated to it (including overhead).

The way I understand it, the area of memory comments shows how memory is allocated to the guest - host memory, swap, share, etc..

    Update:

While the pilot I know work is not made yet, I did some detective work and explored some other links from HP broadcom WiFi card driver files, and I found one that should work for you.

He says that it is for HP desktop PC, they put the exact same form factor of the card wireless to a desktop PC in a laptop.

I see not why this driver would not work, because the configuration file contains the same hardware ID you have posted.  Here's a partial copy and paste of the setup information file driver, and you can see the hardware ID you have posted is supported by this driver.

  • Cannot drag-and - drop between host and guest

    12 workstation

    Host = 10 Pro x 64 Windows

    Comments = 10 Pro x 64 Windows

Everything is entirely up to date, etc. on a Z87 PC chipset.

I can copy and paste. I can drag-and - drop comments to the host.

I can't drag-and - drop between host and guest! lol I just get that bar circle icon.

I'm totally stumped! I tried a myriad of common things...uninstalled/reinstalled VMWARE, then Tools, then even tried to create new guests. I do not have eccentric tweaks or customizations. It is a desktop PC that I use for a laboratory test and my business. I have no other problems in addition to this. Yet, on my other system, essentially a nearly identical configuration, I don't have this problem.

    Any suggestions?

    SOLUTION FOUND!

The problem boils down to a matter of RUN AS ADMIN. On the HOST problem, it has been set to RUN as administrator. I've not done this! He has just installed that way automatically. Once I stopped that and it ran normally, all was well again. Read below for more details.

I have two virtual HOST machine configurations almost identical - we'll we'll call HOST 1 and HOST 2. HOST 2 works perfectly without a problem. Drag and drop, to navigate to drives mapped to access NAS stored VMs, etc...

I began to compare what was similar vs. different between the two. On HOST 1 (problem child even as I could slide properly - drop on), I noticed that I could not navigate to my NAS location where some virtual machines are stored. In the left navigation panel, the mapped drives would appear as drive letters with question marks next to them as you can see in the image below.

I deleted the mapped drives then mapped them still fresh, did an other CLEAN uninstall VMWARE WS PRO 12. I combed the registry, records and checked for devices hidden in Device Manager. Clean as a whistle! I reinstalled 12 Workstation and returned the problem! I could yet drag-and - drop properly or navigate to mapped drives. Then I noticed the HOST 2 that he was not being RUN as administrator. Really? So, I removed this parameter and TA DA! Everything started to work properly. I don't know if it's a bug, or knowledge common to others but for me it was new. I don't know why, by default, when installing 1 HOST went down VMWARE to run as administrator, but it was.

Bottom line - do not run VMWARE as an administrator.

  • VMWare Player 6 - copy / paste doesn't work is not between the guest and host

    Hi all

I am unable to cut and paste (text) or drag-and - drop (files) between the client and host and vice versa.

    I am running Windows 7 (32-bit) guest on a host Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

Everything else works to date works and VMWare Tools are installed.

I spent a few hours searching and have not been able to determine if this is a known issue or just a mismatch in my environment/configuration.

Any suggestions or comments would be most welcome.

    Kind regards

    Hoops

    Hi all

Seems I solved the problem.  It comes down to User Account Control (UAC) prompt (in my case Windows 7 (32 bit).  I have disabled UAC in the comments and drag and drop / cut and paste now works like a charm.

Autologin also now works. I had not tried to set up that more early.  That's where I read an article to disable UAC for AutoLogin work.

My VMWare tools icon now displays in the system tray.

I hope this helps someone else out there!

    Thank you...

  • Windows sharing does not host and guests, but between physical and host computers and the guests.

    Hi, I have a bit of a

a bizarre with windows shared folders network, I am about to format and rebuild the host, but I figure why not ask you chaps, cos I would lov to see why it does not work.

So I have a 64-bit Windows XP workstation host 7 but I also uninstalled and tried vm player 3.

My many comments from winxp ops, vista32 and even a win7 can do all of the windows network shares but cannot share with the host country, they see the host in the "mshome" workgroup and can even ping, but when I try to connect to share on the host I get "host is not reachable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.  The specified network name is no longer available. »

My laptop (win7) and two other physical computers desktop (Windows XP & vista home) can see the host and can use the shared windows resources.

The host can see the guest in the working group operating systems and I can ping, but once again impossible to use actions.

I connect to the host, all comments and physical workstations with the same user name and password

All guests are running in bridge. All firewalls and virus progs are disabled.

    If quick recap

    • You can take and provide each other actions and physical work stations, but not the host

    • The host can take and give shares with physical computers, but not guests

    • Physical computers can give and take action with guests and the host.

If anyone has an idea about it, I would lov to hear it.

    See you soon

This sounds like a manifestation of this problem of networking:

  • Frequent disconnects between cRIO-9024 and host computer

    Hi all

I had a brand new cRiO OR 9024 and several modules of recording data a few days ago. I have setup the IP address for the cRIO which is 10.0.0.2 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0, which is the same with what I've done for the host (different IP address). I installed the software that I need on the controller RT. Throughout the process, I have disabled the firewall. I use MAX 5.0 and NEITHER cRIO 4.0. Two of them are the latest version. I built the link between the cRIO and my computer successfully. However, the target is always disconnected from the host computer, even if I do not have action on the cRIO, that is. Without running any software on it. Status of the disconnection is achieved since the MAX, but surprisingly, I can ping through the IP address of the cRIO. It seems to me that the connection between the host computer and the cRIO was established.

I tried to run code on the target, but unfortunately, the disconnection also occurs frequently simple. I checked the CPU target and the use of memory, which are low. So I concluded that the disconnection is not generated by the high utilization of the processor or memory.

I also tried to reformat the cRIO and reinstall all software, but it has no effect.

I also found that a warning appears regularly on MAX interface that "there was a problem to retrieve the settings of the target. For more information, go to ni.com/frinfo and enter the Info Code MAXServerUnkownError. If the problem persists, contact National Instruments'. I checked MAXServerUnkownError of

NI.com and followed the instructions to make sure that there is no bad configuration on my computer as a firewall etc. However, without doing wrong was found.

Can someone help me figure out what is the problem?

    Concerning

    Japanese

    Hello Japanese,

Thank you for answering my questions. I have more questions that should lead to a solution to your problems:

1 is the add-on NO-time installed on the cRIO?

    2. are you able to disable the antivirus on your computer?

The add-on NO-time turns out to cause frequent disconnects with cRIOs in LabVIEW 2011. To view the add-on, you will need to right click on software under the cRIO, select Add/Remove Programsand select the option custom software installation . If it is installed, I recommend to remove this add-on the cRIO to help solve disconnects.

Please let me know if disconnects continue after removing NO-time and disabling the antivirus.

  • DMA between host and target FPGA is not supported for this remote system.

I try to cover with my FPGA (on the cRIO-9002) of the RTO.  I have install upward of anOpen good VI reference without error, but as soon I try to access thefifo I error-63001 and the attached message wrote:

Error-63001 occurredat reference FPGA VI opened in the target - multi rate - variables - fileIO_old.vi

    Possible reasons:

NOR-RIO FPGACommunications framework: (Hex 0xFFFF09E7) DMA from the host to the FPGA targetis not supported for this remote system. Another method for controller of e/s or climatiqueLes associated with the FPGA target.

What other I/O optionsdo I need to move the data asynchronously to the RTO for the FPGA. I have triedcreating memory, but it seems that I can't write to the memory of the RTOSside.

We have also a 9012sitting around will using this cRIO rather solve this problem.

I'm very very greenwhen it comes to LabView, so I apologize if this is an easy question.

As stated in the readme of the driver NOR-RIO, DMA is not taken in charge from the host to the FPGA on the cRIO-900 x series. The cRIO-901 x supports DMA transfers between host and FPGA and FPGA to host all the cRIO-900 x series controllers only support transfers the FPGA host DMA. As a result, LabVIEW returns an error if you try to transfer using DMA controller for cRIO-900 x.

The 9012 looks like the ideal solution, you are very lucky to have additional hardware laying around

  • Sharing printers between Win7 and XP

I'm trying to share a printer connected to my XP desktop with my laptop Win7 and having problems with the drivers.

I talked to Epson and they say that it is only possible to share printers if Win7 is the host and refuse to look at what if this isn't the game to the top.  Microsoft doesn't offer any support that you don't pay for, what is the situation?  You can share a printer XP welcomed with a Win7 machine?

If your XP system is the 32-bit version and your Windows 7 system is 64-bit, then you might have some problems unless you install a driver 64 bit on Windows 7 system.  You can do on this side of the WIndows 7 form creating a port of the form \\xpsystem\printer and 64-bit printer installation.  "xpsystem" is, of course, name of your XP system and "printer" is the part of the printer. I installed an external hard drive 1 TB USB to a desktop networked home.  I use this unit to save the desktop system.  I mapped it as a network drive for my wife's cell phone.  She has full network drive read/write permissions.  I'm trying to set up his laptop to backup over the network to the device using the backup utility provided with Windows Home Premium.  When I try to choose the local backup device on the network drive does not appear as an option.  When I try to configure the location using the networking option, I can select the device but then get the following error message... "No mapping between account names and security IDS was done."

    Hello BrkAwa,

If the network drive does not appear when you try to backup, this means that the network drive is not mapped on your computer.

Follow these steps to map the drive on your computer.

    1. click on the computer from your desktop or from the Start Menu shortcut. In the toolbar, you will find several buttons, including one called map network drive.

    2. click on it and the map network drive window opens. First, you must assign a drive letter for the connection, and then type the drive or folder that you want to connect.
The folder may be located on a computer, or remote server that you access, FTP site, or a shared folder on your computer.

    3. If you want to connect to a remote computer only "-" followed by the name of the computer or IP address and then "------" track of the location of the folder that you want to connect.
If you want to create a drive mapping to a folder on your own computer, type "\\127.0.0.1\" (this corresponds to the local host) or "\\computer_name\", then the path to that folder.
Sometimes, when you create a drive mapping, you may need to use a special username and password that allows you to connect to it. In this case, click connect using a different user name .

    4. type the user name and password and click OK. Now, you will return to the previous window. Click Finish and the drive mapping will be created.

    5. If you go to the computer shortcut you will see again once a new disk with the letter that you have assigned is listed and you can access it at any time.

Map the drive, then check if you are able to use the drive for backup.
