Using 7 - zip to compress files

My Pavilion desktop computer came with 7-zip. I can open and extract zip files easily with it, but... How a land to create a?

Using 7 - zip seems almost entirely talk about extracting zip archives. There are options to compress files, but they all seem to need a client of mail for an unknown reason.

How do the simple task of compression of a file within a .zip file?

Hello

Right-click on the file you want to compress, select 7 - Zip, and select "Add to Archive" - on the next screen, you can just accept the default settings or change them according to your requirements (IE add a password etc.), and then click Ok to generate the zipped file.

Kind regards

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If the system restore does not work, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not work, try to start in safe mode (repeatedly hit F8 key so that the start and go in safe mode with networking).  Then we will check some of your system files:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well it will complete with no corruption, he couldn't fix it (if there is such corrouption post here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  This can sometimes solve the problem on its own.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  It will scan and try to solve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a cause.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side.

I hope one of these procedures can solve your problem.  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try something else.  Return message anyway so we know how it turns out.

  • CRC error on large compressed files (.zip, .rar, .cab, etc...) The installation fails too...

    Hello world

I have a new Dell computer. It's a Dell Studio 540 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit, with 1 TG of hard drive and 8 GB of RAM. I have problems with "decompression" of a large number of large compressed files (more than 50 GB). Also, because the files on a DVD are often compressed (in the cab for the majority file), the same error occurred on an installation package. Thus, to resume, I got CRC error on compressed files, while opening the zipper AND my different types of software installation fails with errors of Sami.

Before you answer, please read my steps below:

    1. I reinstalled Windows Vista 2 times from scratch with a clean format. Whenever I get the same error on the same files even when there is nothing installed (even the drivers are not installed).
    2. I tried to run Windows XP Mini, a very light version of XP is the launch of a CD at startup and run in RAM. The same problem.
    3. I did all kinds of tests of the material myself AND with Dell technical support. Nothing was found, and I'm sure it's 99.9% true. Everything has been tested: RAM, hard drive, processor, motherboard, etc. The Dell technical support told me that my computer is 100% functional and that this error is due to some software (Windows) does not very well with 64-bit processor... Everything works well in my work all day EXCEPT for the decompression of data.
    4. my files are not damaged: they unzip perfectly on other computers. In addition, the program that do not install because of the CRC error with compressed file are all used before on another computer OR are new. I even changed DVD to the store to get a new one and the problem is still there. I also tried to download the torrent from the .iso file and the same problem happened.
    5. the files on my computer are not corrupted by the hard drive. I copy keys usb, directrly on the DVD to the hard drive. All possible tests have been done on the files, and they are ok.
    6. I did all kinds of tests such as checkdisk, spyware, etc... but given that the installation has not helped with it, I don't think it's related.

My last hope is here... MVP is maybe know a problem in which Windows with zip files. I read a lot of people of the CRC errors, so I'm sure something happens. I am currently with the Dell customer service to get a full refund to buy a new computer without a 64-bit processor because it looks too new for Microsoft.

So if anyone knows something I could try, tweak, change to help me with my problem please let me know.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello!

This morning, I realized that I never returned to close this topic. In fact, I work with dell for a number of weeks, talk to like 10 or 15 support technical Member, try something else and you know what works?

Reinstall windows... But in my case, I have reinstalled windows 2 times before they ask me to do it again. So I did and everything worked perfectly... For the third time is lucky: P in fact, perhaps during the first installation of 2, RAM has not been installed properly or has failed for a second, because every file that has been read has become corrupted, but at the same time, everything is normal on my computer seems to work ok... In addition, it could be the update that I did for my BIOS. So, a good test would be to update your BIOS, shut down your computer, check if the ram is installed ok, restart, verify that your ram is detected.

After that, reinstall your windows, but DO NOT use the file you had on your "not working version of windows. I lost a lot of backup of the thing on my computer because even put on my new fresh install of windows, these rar did not work. I needed to pick up an old DVD and they worked

So, I hope this will help!

  • How to find my compressed files [ZIP]

Reference Dell restored my laptop to factory - cannot find the compressed files [ZIP]

    Hello

    Where records have been saved?

A restore to factory wipe the hard clean throughout the process. The only option you have is to use a recovery program to recover files deleted from your hard drive. But I doubt if this will help. If the files were very important, then you can give it a try. Search using your favorite search engine to learn more about third-party data recovery programs.

  • When I download compressed files, they go to the local > temp location, when I extracted all the files, they are sent to the My Documents folder. Can I go to the local > temp location and delete the zip file?

When I download compressed files, they go to the local level > temp location, when I extracted all the files, they are sent to the My Documents folder. Can I go to local > temp location and delete the zip file? Knowing that I still have the data in the My Documents folder.

Once they are checked, of course. If you want to keep a backup, you can move the zip file in your documents folder.

In fact, you can delete everything in the temporary folder that is not currently in use. Best time to do this removal is immediately after the start, before launching other applications.

N ° in general all utilities file compression give the same result, the compression ratio you get depends on compressible how files are. Photos and videos are often as tablet as they can get, and because programs are made mainly of random data which don't compress well, they compress much further.

  • Compressing files with local characters

    Hello community,

I will compress files with LabVIEW, but the names of files in the zipfiles be annoying especially since I use English characters such as 'a', 'e' etc. If I zip outside labview then the file names are very well, then I guess it's a thing of labview. Can you help me how can I compress these filenames correctly? Remove / change the file names is not an option.

I checked the document briefly before I sent my post. I sent the UseUnicode = True, it makes no difference. anyway I don't think it's really applicable according to the case that the problem lies in the file add to zipfile.vi which is password protected. Access roads entering this VI have filenames with the correct characters.

There is no easy way to solve this problem. The zlib library and actually really library miniZIP to cover that was used for the ZIP implementation in LabVIEW does nothing on the character encoding. ZIP files traditionally use some codepage BACK system used at the time. The code page of BACK, however, is not the same as the ANSI code page using standard Windows GUI applications. If any special character in LabVIEW is passed to the function ZIP and it interpreted as a different character.

The simplest solution would be to convert filenames to the OEM code page before passing the ZIP function and conversion back from OEM to ANSI when it receives the file names of the functions. New formats ZIP support also the UTF8 encoding, but which is not supported by the serving ZIP support miniZIP library in LabVIEW.

I had to deal with these issues in the Toolkit OpenG ZIP library and this is something very sensitive and involved, especially considering that it should run on the platforms more than just Windows. For now, I decided to work around this problem and to focus on obtaining a new version of the library, without trying to deal with some of these issues of character encoding.

My recommendation is really just avoid these characters special altogother for now.

And I'm not sure that you would gain a lot by calling a command line utility. Unlike the GUI Windows programs, the command line utility also works with the OEM code page and assume that its parameters are in this code page, so you will need to convert special characters in any case before generating the command line string.
