I added the adjustment layer for the image, changed to black with the white foreground color I am unable to reveal the adjustment

  • Layer mask not 100 percent

I used the quick mask in Photoshop CS6 to lift a selection from a photograph very busy on a new layer, so I could refine the mask. I added a layer based on the selection mask and mask the unwanted parts. Then, I click with the right button on the image of the layer and chose to select pixels and to my surprise what has been selected, it was what I first copied in the new layer. The area that I added to the master showed that it was transparent, but it wasn't somehow. I checked my brush to ensure that the merger was normal and opacity and hardness was 100% and that black was 0, 0, 0 RGB or K = 100%. After deaf and hit around and provision of oath, I arrived at a work around, but it looked kludgy. What I'm fighting against?

"Select Pixels" does not take into account of layer masks.

cmd-alt-shift-click on icon in the Panel layer mask layers would intersect it with an existing selection (if you can have meant with workaround).

  • Layer mask groups converted from work plans to the size of the artboard in older versions of Photoshop

I wanted to start this post as an idea, but I couldn't choose communities (it wouldn't let me), so here it is posted...

    ----

Just came across this with a customer...

I use for a mobile design project work plans, and I just got a screenshot with some texts asking why among work plans were really great. Way bigger than a phone. (I'm under NDA and cannot post the screenshot, but imagine there are a lot of iPhone size work plans and two of them seem to be at a right angle)

I opened the file and on my end, everything is the right size. Remembering the weeks ago to tell the customer that they need to update their version of Photoshop for all this work correctly, I have take a look at the screenshot and see that they are on CC2014 - none of the work plans.

What I'm asking here, is that, since we have data, plans of work are objects of a defined size and 'alive', why not just use these data to hide layer groups at the opening of the PSD / PSB (PSB in my case) in older versions of Photoshop?

It could save you a TON of hassle and confusion.

    Hi Zack,

High level to your query response is: no, there is no conduct business case for a general solution to what you are suggesting. So I don't see what is happening.

I say that as someone who likes to give back and forth and backward compatibility.

There are two parts of the problem that you raise. They are related and somewhat intertwined.

    1. Having the version previous (2014) do something reasonable with the data from the version the most recent (2015). Either the old version should be taught on the most recent data so it can make a decision about what to do, or the newer version must put additional data in the file format for consumption by the older version.
    2. Back and forth between versions. As you say, a much more difficult problem. In fact, we do a good job of that today. But we must be sure that whatever we do for (1) not to damage and back the wrong way.

Let's be very clear: 2014 will not be touched, except for critical bugs, absolutely. And even before 2015 is released, it would have not been corrected to make it behave better with work plans. There is no way that I could see what is happening. So all we have done for better backward compatibility had to be entirely done within 2015.

For the round trip, the general problem is something like this: we want to 2014 to read an object that has properties of 2015, he does not understand. While we might learn ch to keep these properties as opaque property, must also have rules for when these properties are not valid and thrown on the floor. Probably, if the object is changed. But not always. And sometimes when another object parent is changed. And so on. Right now, we destroy them unknown content from their reading in the old version. Make us and record what we understand. As a user, you receive an alert telling you that we are do this. It's the safest thing to do.

There are special cases where a developer can see an opportunity to preserve a level of backward compatibility and back and forth. We try to do if we believe that it is safe. But this scenario happens only occasionally.

In the case of work plans, made us really think about this: If we added a mask to the group for backward compatibility, it should do something with this mask reading around 2015. And what would happen if the user edited this mask in 2014 and opened upward in 2015 - and who edited mask do not align with the structures of the artboard? Things started to get dark quickly. We started to see traps. The workflow together to sheath special round trip had to be tested and verified. The cost was rising and this expense must be filtered through a cost/value trade-off. And then what happens when we add a new property to the structure of work plan? At these efforts for nothing?

So we compromised with what you have today. Work plans become groups in 2014. The Group and the layer structure remains intact. Doesn't secretly add us and remove masks for the round trip. You can safely change the groups to your heart's content. When return you this document in 2015, you redo the work plans of the groups. Was not clear and safe way to do more than that given the time that we had.

Take a step back and think about your problem, it doesn't seem to be a value to a script that converts group work plans + layer masks for your workflow to have your documents that is consumed by the customers of 2014. This would be carried out in 2015 because she would need understand the work plans. And maybe vice versa from 2014 to 2015, assuming that the documents were not published in a hostile way. We're not likely to write such a script as a generic tool, but someone competent with script might be able to do this.

More that I intend to write, but hopefully, it gives you additional insight in the compromises that we have faced.

  • How can I add a gradient to a layer mask to counter a gradual change in the tone of one end of one photo to another?

I swear I have go nutso.  I have a photo taken with a pretty extreme move of 10mm of a shift lens, which therefore has a gradual darkening towards the top of the photo.  No problem, don't tell me.  I just added a mask layer, click on the gradient tool and drew a line (in a good way) with this tool.  What I received was a transparent area at the black end (of the gradient applied to the mask) ranking to the darkest part of the image showing through to the other end (of the gradient).

I've done it before and done the above, instinctively, so I thought that I was doing this right.  When it did not work, I tried applying the mask and the gradient to a duplicate background layer, and then flatten the image. Nada.

Jees.  Something incorrectly? An other than normal blending mode?  I even checked with a CS6 by Martin Evening guide, which seems to be able to do exactly what I wanted without any problem.

    Or... maybe I 'm going nutso :).

    Thanks in advance,

    BAB

Normal blending mode is correct. Suppose I want to clear up a segment of heaven in image1. Dupe of image and lighten it. It's the Image 2. I exaggerated the relief much here to make it more obvious to you. Please forgive me. Normally the lightning could be more nuanced. The gradient mask attached to the Image 2 starts at the top of the tail of the plane - not the whole image. The result is image 4. Maybe your success is due to the slope not starting and ending in the appropriate box. Note the gradient is black and white.

If you see a screen of first instance, click on "buy this software." I forgot if you sign with your Adobe ID and password before or after, but it will give you a serial number option. Here, you will see a button, "I have a serial number" or a screen where you enter your serial number.

Once accepted, your software will return to his ' a state license.

Also if you still have problems remember you still aren't on any Cloud 30 days plan you need to cancel. Uninstallation of CC are not enough.

  • Animation is not at all - white screen in the browser

It's my first project on the edge and I'm a little frustrated because my animation does not appear in the browser after you download it. The preview works very well. The display of the URL, but the screen is totally blank. I use Fetch to download and have verified that the path is 100% correct. I even saved the file under a different file name (including of course the .js files) and in another place, but with no result after having downloaded a second time. I am a Mac user and I have a CC-all my software account is updated with the latest versions. I also tried several browsers, with no luck.

I read another thread from March/April (TJ) which addresses the same problem, but the user never found a solution and had to go back to an older version of the edge to make it work.

  • Paint on layer masks does not work?

Hi, I'm working on a work of Digital Art classes... Deadline tomorrow, I left it quite late because I knew what to do, and he was out in my head on how to do it. And behold, I encountered a problem with paint on a layer mask.

I did a form (Magenta, so I know I paint on the correct layer) and have selected layer mask, but when I try to paint black on it to give it a bit of shading is as if she is wiping out so I can see the layer behind it, even though I see that it is indeed drawing anywhere in the mask layer in the layers panel anyway?

Until something happens, I'll just go try and find an alternative

    (Photoshop CS6)

    Screenshot 2014-03-19 20.58.06.pngScreenshot 2014-03-19 20.57.44.png

    Any help is appreciated!

Painting on the layer mask with black going to 'clear' of the image.  That's the whole point of a layer mask.  If you want to shade it (non-distructively) then create a new layer above that layer and hang it on her, pressing alt/opt clicking on between the layers in the layer panel.  Then you can paint black on the new layer, and it will be displayed only when the lower layer's pixels.  You can then change it without messing up the base layer.

  • Can I use more than 1 layer in a single layer mask?

    Hi all!

I am a beginner in Photoshop, so everything I do to this tent to complete the tutorials.

At a given time of the lesson I started today, mentions of the description that I must make a selection in the left part of the image, add a layer mask and press Ctrl + Backspace to make the selection disappears. I did it, no problem.

The next step is to do the same in the upper part of the image.

My problem is that I already have an active layer mask and I can't repeat the same steps because I am not allowed by the program to create a second in the same layer.

    What Miss me?

Its very easy really and you do not need more of a mask. The author would probably include a photo of the layers palette for orientation.

I have not used a path to create the edges of the pieces of the puzzle here, but the principle is exactly the same.

    Hope that helps

  • How to copy a channel alpha to an adjustment layer mask?

I can copy a mask in alpha channel to a layer of the image by Ctrl + click on the alpha channel, then by clicking on the icon Add a layer mask in Photoshop CC, but it does not work for an adjustment layer. How can I copy the mask to alpha channel to the layer of an adjustment layer mask? Thank you.

Drag the Alpha channel down to the channel to load as a selection symbol.

Return the Panel layers, click the adjustment layer and choose an adjustment layer.

The Alp\ha channel is displayed in his mask.

  • Use a layer as map alpha (mask) for another - how?

Hi, I do not understand how to do this in Photoshop. In After Effects, which I use a lot, it's easy. For example, I have a layer with semi transparent, transparent opaque areas. I can then say AE to use this layer as a map of alpha channel for another layer. But how to do this in Photoshop? I understand how to use a layer mask and draw on the same layer to create spaces treansparent. But I want to use a layer of separante, or even a separate image.

    I use Photoshop CS 5.

I have PES 9 w/Mac OS X.  According to Adobe using for layer masks, "to display the mask in a mask color red, hold down the Alt + Shift and click on the thumbnail of the layer mask".  It is also stated by Missing Manual for elements.  I can't get this to work and can display the mask only in itself (in black and white).  I have uninstalled/reinstalled without success.  In other words, when I change the mask, I don't see where I'm editing.  Can someone help me?

  • Error tool brush with layer masks

I've identified a bug in layer mask in Photoshop for Mac 14.2.1. When you work with no vector layer masks, the Brush tool will not paint one value darker than the white level in the mask. For example:

When a layer mask is created from the icon at the bottom of the layers window, the mask itself is white, representing a total visibility of the hidden layer. If you try to use the brush with 100% black (for in fact hide something in the layer there is), it does not work. I am able to use the bucket tool paint and pencil to fill in black mask tool, but not the Brush tool. If the mask is 67% gray, and my brush tool is set to 66% gray, it does not yet affect mask; White level cannot be decreased, not increased with the Brush tool. Bug!

Your brush, blending mode is set to Normal?

  • Layer Mask question, please help.

    Hello

My layer mask does not work, do not know what is happening. I use 4 CS. I want to use the blend effect so I put the photos on a white background. I click on the layer mask on each photo, select the tool brush on the picture but does not work, is either appear black or white when I use the brush paint on it. So not bad, the foreground color should be gray & white based on layer mask, but it appears black & white instead. Please see the screenshot below. Please help, thanks

    Untitled-2.jpg

Hi, I'm going to try explain your problem.

In your posted example we see that you have three layers in the layers panel.

On each layer, we can see, on the left side, there is the thumbnail of the layer, it is a display of the actual image of your layer, then a thumbnail of the layer mask (the white rectangle on the right side).

A layer mask works as follows: you tell Photoshop to show or hide the actual parts (pixels) of the layer with the grayscale values. Indicates a white pixel on the layer masks Photoshop to display the area of the image with a (non-transparent) full opacity, while tells a black pixel on the Photoshop layer mask to hide the layer completely (0% opacity.) Gray values will therefore partially show the image data.

But you paint on the document, and you must specify Photoshop if you want to paint on the image (what you did in your example, and you don't want to) or if you want to paint on the layer mask (what you want to do). This indication is called targeting. It is simply done by clicking on the thumbnail of the layer or the layer of your layer mask thumbnail. (By clicking on different areas of a layer in the palette layers are different orders, you give to the program). For example, if you want to move the layer that you hide to another, in order to paint on his mask, sure to click on the layer of the other layer mask thumbnail in the layers panel.

In Photoshop CS5.5 and earlier versions, you'll see that a layer or its mask is targeted because there will be three contours around her: a black, a white and a black once again, as the actual layer data in the highlight 0928 your image layer. You should see these three contours around the layer mask to paint over it.

CS6 the target indicator is different, look in my image, we can see that the layer mask is targeted with white corners: I then have the part of the black layer mask by targeting the layer mask in the layer panel and then paint on the image where I want to hide the layer.

If you want to change the layer (photos, in your case), just click on the thumbnail, and you're ready to go!

    I hope this helps.
