Using fax and scan

How can I save a scanned as PDF document?

How can I save a scanned as PDF document?

Even if your scanner came with a software that allows the creation of pdf files, you are not out of luck.

  1. Download and install free CutePDF Writer
  2. Scan and save the document as its default file type (probably a graphics file *.) (TIF).
  3. Open the document saved in your default graphics viewer application (for example, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer).  If you do not already have IrfanView (a graphic viewer free but extremely versatile), I highly recommend it.
  4. In the graphical viewer application, open the print dialog box (usually from the file > Print) and select CutePDF Writer from the drop down list of available printers. Click on 'Print' and enter a file name and location when you are prompted.
  5. Eventually, delete the original file of saved charts.

    Hi John,.

You can follow the steps below to change the COM port for a modem:

    1. search the Device Manager.

2 look for the Modem device, right-click on it, and then click Properties.

    • If the change settings button is present, you must click on it to make changes to the appliance. If the user account control dialog box appears, confirm that the displayed action corresponds to what you want, and then click continue.
    • If the change settings button is not present, the modem does not support the ability to change the modem settings. Refer to the documentation provided by the vendor of your modem.

    3. on the Advanced tab, click Advanced port settings.

    • If this option is not displayed, the modem does not support the ability to change the assigned COM port. Refer to the documentation provided by the vendor of your modem.

If the same persists, we suggest that you post your query in Microsoft TechNet so that their support team will provide you in-depth assistance.

    Kind regards.

  • Windows Fax and Scan/Event Viewer

I have 2 issues that I believe are interdependent.

I am running W7 x 64 edition family and until recently and scanning worked perfectly but suddenly stopped. Now the application does not show my internal Modem (soft) or my external Fax Modem - that are displayed in the device (with no problems) Manager. The App said No accounts set up, and when I try to accounts 'Add', nor the modem show and if I try to ' add by using a name, I just get a statement of error message "the mentioned fax server is not available"... telling me to try again later."

When I first set up fax and scan, I just plugged my Modem Fax (new) and when I went to add accounts - the two Modems showed. I simply took the external Modem and everything worked fine - now none of the Modems are recognized.

I tried the remedy of re-fax service under control panel of configuration/administration/services etc... is indifferent.

I looked at a lot of positions since 2007 and this seems to be the problem well documented and a pending problem resulting from an update of Windows, but it is unclear which.

Of all the posts I've seen, it's a well known error / well documented that has not already been corrected.

At the same time, my event viewer does not work - when I try to open it, a message simply says "Service not available event log. Verify that the service is running.

I try to run the service and "starts and stops"... In any case, among the thousands of posts on this topic and also I tried remedies including remove/rename the Windows/system32/LogFiles/WMi/RtBackup

I think remember me one saying the 2 problems are interrelated. Any ideas?

    Hi Gerry,

No, I have already gone through Device Manager and no device No. Bad shown.

Yes, I used fax and scan before several times on my x 64 system and it worked fine until recently.

    HOWEVER, "good news".

I found a site called http://tools.sysprogs.org/srvman/ SYS PROGS

The site has a small standalone application called srvman that I downloaded and it allowed me to launch the event log / event viewer / Fax - which none could start the Services on the right menu by clicking on the selection and selection automatic (or manual) and then start. Each of them would start and then stop.

In any case, they began with this app and then Windows Fax and Scan App and still no joy.

I then went to "Turn Windows features on or off" and of selected Fax and Scan and printer Opps, then re-selected them (I had tried this method a few times before without success)...

Restarted the computer and the events/event log viewer / fax and scan works very well... (only thing was Fax and Scan doesn't seem to see my external Fax Modem (soft) modem internal but recognized and 'Fax account' remained together upwards, so all good to go.)

Thanks for your help... your directions encouraged me to keep plodding on this issue frustrating and eventually got somewhere - but by "Good luck" more than my own 'good management' :-)

  • Help with registration of the PDF when using Windows Fax and Scan

When I use the Windows Fax and Scan, I'm trying to scan a document and then save it as a PDF file.  What happens is when I save it, it opens Adope Photo Shop and will not let me save it as a PDF.  How can I scan a document and then save it as a PDF in Windows 7.0?

If you have Word 2007 or later, you can scan it, then save it as a PDF. Works fine for me. I have a Canon LIDE 100 scanner, I bought for $50, which will also scan directly to PDF.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Windows Fax and Scan - what the appropriate use for the concurrent users to save to the network program?

I'll try to keep this simple - as I already asked this on other forums without the answer. My environment - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit client machines. A computer needs to scan patient documents to a network shared by a group of users folder. There will be many people who use this computer even through all day (several shifts - environment 24 hours/7 days).  This is why I need multiple profiles from windows to all save the scan to the SAME network location.

Currently I am trying to achieve with Windows Fax and Scan and using the ' Scan 'option under 'tools' routing. "  There is a check box (once in this option) for "network location".  I am using this option, but its does not work and that's the whole problem. Its supposed to AUTOMATICALLY record each scan to the specified network location, but it does no such thing. The scan is not registered at all in fact it is just in the interface user of Windows Fax and Scan... double you click it, and then it shows you the image.

Some information note for helping people answer this question (and any help is appreciated):

    (1) * YES * the network folder, I am trying to record is a valid network folder and * IS * accessible via my network of different devices

    (2) * YES * the user of this journal on the computer with the scanner * ALL * read/write to have rights to this location of the network folder

    (3) * file YES and printing sharing is already active on clients

If you please if someone either knows how to solve this problem, or at this stage if you can even suggest a different (cheaper the better) application that will scan to a network location please let me know.

One might think to a disabled feature labeled as "scan routing" and then a field for "network location", it would be simple as plugging in the network folder and checking a box - apparently it isn't.

    Thank you.

  • How to scan documents several pages into .pdf using Microsoft Fax and Scan in Windows 7 64 bit

I need to scan documents from several pages to .pdf files in a user's preferred directory.  I have a HP Color Laserjet 2840 Director HP Windows XP to scan documents to .pdf files. I had to move the printer/scanner on a 64-bit Windows 7 computer.  No HP Director or the HP Solution Center is supported for this printer under Windows 7 and HP Internet site recommends the use of Windows Fax and Scan.  Fax and scanning does not support scanning into .pdf analyses or several pages in any format except TIFF.  It also only allows files to be redirected to network folders and is not a browse button to select a location.  Short buying Adobe Acrobat and using a 2-step process of digitization in TIFF format and then print the TIFF to PDF file. does anyone have any suggestions?

I discovered thanks to a thread on this issue that Windows 7 does not come with the ability to scan multi-page documents, although versions previous to Windows.  I read that it takes download program Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) Microsoft to scan multi-page documents.  What a pain!

  • whenever I try to use the windows fax and scan, I have this message:

whenever I try to use windows fax and scan, I have this message: Windows fax and scan cannot access your documents folder. Please, make sure that windows fax and scan can access this folder. How I do that?

    Hi Mohamed

Thanks for your posting in the Microsoft community

You can check if you have my documents in C:\Users\ (username) \My documents correct location.
If the problem persists, you can deactivate and then activate Windows Fax and consolidated expansion of print and Document services from the windows on or off check and option features if this solves the problem.

You will need to disable the function, and then click OK. Now open Windows Fax and Scanand check. Yet once activate the Windows Fax and Scan and check if you experience the same problem.

See the link below to display the window for the deactivation and activation windows fax and scan under Print and Document services and check option.

What should I do to use the Windows Fax and Scan of my computer at home for my work fax #?

A piece of hardware called a Fax Modem, installed in or connected to your computer with the appropriate device drivers from the manufacturer of the device, you have installed in or connected to your computer.    And a telephone line.

  • remove 1 fax number from outlook to use the Windows fax and scan

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7 operating system.  I try to use Windows Fax and Scan to send a fax using my Outlook address book fax numbers.  When I enter the phone number in Outlook it shows as (281) 555-1212.  However, it converts the number of + 1 for each entry, regardless of how I implemented the rules of numbering or not.  Then when I try to fax, I don't need + 1 to dial numbers, only the area code and the number.  I can't do the 1 = go away.  If I dial the number directly in the Fax Wizard, and then it composes correctly, but when pulling starting from Outlook address book that's messed up.

Basically, I don't have the + 1 to dial local numbers.  Only the 10 digits.  When I get a fax in Outlook number, it automatically formats it with the front 1.  I found an article online that said that if I put a comma before the number to 10 digits, it forces the computer to dial only the numbers that I entered.  It works fine when I do that, then my problem is solved.  Thanks for responding.

  • How to use Windows Fax and Scan if a modem has not been built in my PC?

Original title: fax and scan Windows

Why bother to preload a tower PC with windows fax and analyze if the PC has a modem and in fact does not even a wireless receiver.  When an ordinary user like me go buy the adapter wireless and go buy the fax modem, it's like going to a car dealer and make them ask ' you want this car with tires and wheels, or even that it is? »

So when you go to Best Buy and Staples to find a fax modem for this PC HP who did not, and what they have is a Zoom modem that works work, WHAT ARE SUPPOSES to DO THEN?

It is hardware problem, not an operating system. Windows does its part by providing the software needed to complete the job.

  • Windows Fax and Scan cannot detect Photosmart C4580 all-in-1 scanner connected to the wireless network

I have no problem printing or scanning when I connect my C4500 to PC via USB.  When connected via my home wireless router I can print OK but can not scan - it's the same for other users and computers.  Windows Fax and Scan gives me the message 'no scanner found. '  I need to work so that all users on my netwrok home can share the scanner.  I use Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks Travis_C (HP).  I actually found the solution just before receiving your answer!  I discovered that, although the Solution Center says it would uninstall the existing files before allowing me to reinstall with the latest version downloaded, it didn't remove all the files.  I only discovered this because the new facility has not taken me through the whole fresh installation procedure, he simply asked me what additional features I wanted to install and asked me if I wanted a local printer or network etc.

I thought that there must be a mistake or problem with whatever existing files were left and the new facility would not correct it.  So I used the control panel to uninstall the existing files, and I made sure that everything was gone.  I then used the last download to reinstall, this time through the new correct installation procedure, and everything now works perfectly.

With this method I always had a problem on another PC, giving me the same problem I had before.  I realized that this was due to a USB dongle connected to the PC to a wireless keyboard that seems to affect the installation.  When I removed the dongle installation worked again perfectly, and I now have full printing and scanning ability on all PCs.

I think the installer for this printer wireless (and perhaps others?) should be updated to solve the problem, and also the center of Solution must be fixed to ensure that if you uninstall the software it should not leave anything.

  • Scanning with HP all-in-one printer with fax and scan Windows in Windows 8

When you install a printer driver in Windows 8, you can scan from your computer without having to install any additional software to HP. This is particularly useful if you want to or not does not require the full functionality software or if your printer does not have a driver to scan for Windows 8.

Windows Fax and Scan uses a Microsoft Service called WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) to capture an image from the scanner and allow you to save without the need for additional drivers.

In addition, Windows Fax and Scan cannot scan to PDF.

  • Windows Fax and Scan "Sender Name" empty (Windows Server 2008 Standard)

    Hi all

I am using Windows Server 2008 Standard (32-bit) with a RocketModem III card.  I have the latest drivers for the RocketModem.

Using Windows Fax and Scan, I can send and receive faxes fine.  The only problem is when I see the fax, the name of the sender is blank.  I am trying to display the telephone number that someone sends me the fax to.

I had thought it might also be under CSID, but everything I have complete options because it puts there.  I guess that means I want the CSID show for all those who sent faxes to me.

It might be worth noting that I have active CallerID and you have a real fax machine that shows the incoming number very well.

Does anyone have an idea where I could go wrong here?  Thanks in advance for the help!
