v. 7.0: why so many removable devices in Win7 invited?

Why all these features in a win7 RTM comments are displayed as 'removable '?

VMware VMAudio

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB host controller

Intel(r) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection

Intel(r) 82371AB/EB PCI to USB universal host controller

VMWare Virtual S SCSI Disk device

Local disc (c :))

It's on the last version of Workstation 7 and update tools (203739).

Puzzled.

These devices are removable because they're hot.

If you want to disable this, power off the virtual machine, leave the workstation, open the .vmx file in a text editor and add the line:

Devices.hotplug = "FALSE".

    Hello

I added a 32 GB microSD card to my Surface RT. In this map, I copied my mp3 in the folder music (D:\Music); I want to add this folder to the music library, but when I chose the folder on the removable device I get this error: "this file cannot be included because it is on a removable device.

If I click on the help link "which locations can be included? I see that removable media (such as CDs or DVDs) are not taken care of but external drives and USB flash drives are supported.

I also tried with a USB, but I get the same error.

Why microSD and USB are not supported in the Windows library files?

  • Why not redirect my removable device?

    Hi all:

The goal: Log into the virtual machine, connect the camera (which indicate a removable device) and access images.

I'm having a problem with a camera (or any removable device) redirecting to the virtual machine to a computer for the Horizon HP thinclient. It is completely random, and I'm not able to reproduce the same results each time. Sometimes, it works fine on some devices, but most of the time that it does not work as expected.

On what works, I can plug the unit in and out while the virtual machine is charged and the camera is accessible every time. However, at a given time, they stop to redirect. On those who does not, I plug in the camera and it does not appear in the My Computer Manager or device. If I connect then turn the virtual computer on while the unit is still plugged, it will be displayed and I can access it.

Ah - it all starts to make sense, I think...

We found problems in the past when third-party tools are used - I think that HP had a problem before. They try to do their own management of usb devices that interfere with the management of the VMware usb devices...

Refer to setting the automatic connection options; There are 2 available configuration options that are more easily resolved through the GPO of the side model customer.

AutoConnect on startup - when active connects all devices that are present at the session is started

Active auto then the insertion - when connection can connect automatically if they are inserted once the session is already in progress

both are disabled by default on Windows and OS X, but enabled by default under Linux.

  • Volume down 5% after you connect the removable device

    Hello
A few months ago, I noticed something very strange: whenever I connect a removable device as USB flash or external HARD disk drive or even my smartphone, the volume goes down to 5%, but only to the browser & media player. Can I change the sound volume by using the volume mixer but it's annoying to do whenever I have something to connect to my PC.
I reinstalled the drivers for my sound card & for each device, I usually connect & also I reinstalled the browser (Opera browser) & Winamp without success.
Also, I had some problems in the past which could be linked to it. After you install SP1, whenever I am connected to windows I was warned that the Audio Service does not work although it was running. (solved this one).
Another problem was related to the removable USB devices. Apparently, Windows could not assign letters to all my removable devices, even if I manually assigned a letter to a device of some. I does not solve it, but I use USB remove to assign letters and it seams to work fine so far. ( Windows 7 assigns letters of readers to external hard drives & Windows 7 assigns letters of readers to external hard drives )
    Any ideas?

Nevermind, I think I got it.

Control Panel-> sounds-> communication tab-> when Windows detects communications activity-> reduce the volume of other sounds of 80% has been verified

I went to do nothing and so far it sews and work.

Do not know exactly why hard drives have been detected as of communication devices, but my guess is that this has something to do with the Winamp/WMP library, because I'm always asked by these 2 apps to add the new device to the library, even if there is no file audio/video/photo on it.

  • Why so many major new versions?

Why did we have so many new versions of Firefox this year? A milestone was reached when 4.x came out at the begging of the year and since then, we have had versions 5.x, 6.x, 7.x and now 8.x within a few months. It seems that version 9 is already in beta...

Most of the updates seem to be minor or intermediate in nature - and certainly nothing that would require a major version release - so why so many new versions this year?

In addition, given that the installation of update don't does not automatically move you to the next major release, are all these versions still supported?

Updates have been replaced by a quick release cycle and that means an upgrade every 6 weeks for the next major release.

The new version replaces the previous version and that version is no longer supported.

Only Firefox 3.6.23 and Firefox 8.0 are supported.

Currently, Firefox 7.0.1 is always available as a result of the investigation of reports of incidents.

  • Why so many people upgraded? My favorite add-on is disabled, it is fixed, then another upgrade to find the disabled module.

I hope that I do not understand the 'too many characters' warning. I kept it short, less than 100 and it still gives me the warning. The add-on I'm talking about is the Norton Toolbar. Explicit. Why so many updates of FF? I moved to FF out en: IE upgrades. FF is much worse today.

  • How do disable you booting from removable devices on Satellite R830?

    Hi all

Can someone help me find a way to disable booting from removable devices on a toshiba Satellite R830.

    Thank you?

    Hello

You can't disable booting from a boot device.
You can simply change the boot order in the BIOS.

If you don t want to start, for example: USB, just put the HARD drive as first boot device.
Now the laptop will boot first from the HARD drive. If it isn t HARD (because of missing systems) bootable disk, the BIOS will pass to the next device, IE: CD/DVD player

As far as I know Satellite P10 and P20 have removable optical drive. You can remove the CD/DVD drive and put it inside the floppy drive and use it as first boot device.

  • Why so many Windows updates are available at the same time

    Updates

    * original title - installed more 15 000 updates this morning. Since I use the automatic updates why so many people at the same time? *

    Hi people,

Is the number of '15000' you see on a black background with the logo of Windows on it? If Yes, then it is just part of the update process. It refers the number of files that are being updated on your system. Normally you would see that the screen but if your computer installs updates, then is not a good stop to install (for example: If you a loss of power or power off your computer), then you will see this screen with the black background, the next time that you start.

There should not be any cause for alarm, especially if your update history shows the updates installed successfully.

  • Error installation software device driver for removable devices in Windows Vista x 64

I have Windows Vista x 64 installed on my PC and nVidia Forceware motherboard and graphic cards.

When I plug in any removable drive into my USB 2.0 port, Windows starts the installation of the device driver software and then sees it as an unknown device. The dialog where he asks me if I want to 'locate and install driver software', 'Ask Me later' or 'don't show this message for this device.

I select the recommended option: "locate and install driver software.

I click 'Continue' when Windows asks me permission to continue.

Then, when the execution of the installer of the software in the bottom right of my screen, the installation of driver software for device, it shows "unidentified device failed.

Then another window pops up saying this:

"Found New Hardware - device unknown".

Windows encountered a problem installing the software driver for your device

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error trying to install it.

    Kodak

An error occurred during the installation of the device:

The driver for this device is missing a necessary entry. Maybe it's because the file INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for driver software. »

That's what he does when I'm trying to connect my Kodak Easyshare M550 digital camera. I would go ahead and contact Kodak, but the problem seems to extend to ANY removable device on my computer.

For example, I have a Lexar Flashdrive. When I plug it into my USB 2.0 port, it Windows says the following:

"Windows needs to install driver software for your USB Flash Drive", etc...

'Install the device driver software', 'USB Flash Drive search Windows Update'...

Then a window opens asking me to "insert the disk that came with your USB key. Problem is that no driver disk not supplied with the hardware that Windows Vista is supposed to come with the drivers. I know this because the camera and usb flash drive worked very well until I reinstalled Windows Vista on my new hard drive (new installation, because my old hard drive crashed) and I've NEVER had to install device drivers for Windows to recognize it as a removable drive and operate automatically.

Also, I installed Daemon Tools Lite and I had to manually "Update" the device driver to point to the "Windows\INF" folder in my hard drive, after copying the cdrom files needed for the specific subfolders for windows to let the program assign a drive letter for the drive virtual it creates.

I think that perhaps not all device drivers have been installed when I installed Windows Vista, this time. If that's the problem, I don't know how that could happen, nor how to fix it, but I really prefer to find a way to solve this problem without reinstalling Windows Vista again. I don't mind not manually install the drivers as long as someone can show me what files to copy and where to find them on the Windows Vista disk that I bought at Microsoft. I KNOW that Windows HAS come with these drivers.

If anyone knows how I can fix this, please tell me, because it's ridiculous to not be able to use any removable device readers (except for the use of all Flash drives). Thanks in advance.

I know it can be frustrating to solve problems.

  • Why Microsoft did remove the ability for Windows Vista to install on herself from one location other than being inside the BONE you want to fix it?

No Option to install repair - SAD

    Hello

Why Microsoft removed the ability for Windows Vista to install on herself from one location other than being inside the BONE you want to repair.

I recently had a problem where Vista Business 64-bit would only boot to a black screen with a mobile cursor - KSOD.   Who, in searching the Web I found is a fairly common problem with Vista.  I discovered that my only option was about to reinstall Vista CLEAN and all the other programs I had installed under it.  I can't believe that Microsoft released the 'repair installation option"similar to that of Windows XP, where you can hit the"R"key during installation and we left with nothing but the"System Restore"options and"Startup Repair ".  Neither of which has helped in my situation.  Since then, this was a dual system boot with XP Pro, then any restore point has been removed from the partition to Vista anytime, I started another recognized problem, by Microsoft, which Microsoft has made no significant effort to fix, in addition to recommending that you hide the partion Vista in XP - a whole of XP.  That beats a little the entire purpose of dual boot.

As I tried to start in safe mode, it left me at the same point as a normal boot - black screen with a cursor.  I tried ctrl + alt + delete and nothing. Two Windows RE options did not help me.  This left me no option but to the completely reinstall Vista.   Why Microsoft did remove the ability for Windows Vista to install on herself from one location other than being inside the BONE you want to repair.. Please don't tell me that it is because Vista uses an image file instead of an installation as XP system.   I see no other reason for not allowing the upgrade of outside BONE in addition to Microsofts greed and paranoia that he can transform the operating system easier to install illegally.  I hope that some third party has actually changed the Vista installation routine to allow you to install Vista on itself, because as it is, it's really hard for me to even recommend Vista as the operating system or install any where else, if not the only recourse after loading OS, is to reinstall completely.

Adobe, Autodesk, and almost all other software publishers... allow you to perform a "REPAIR" of their software installation, if something prevents you to load after installation.  Even MS Office has a routine repair.  Ms has an internal version of the Setup routine which allows outside the OS upgrade option that you want to "Upgrade" / repair? ".  If not, why?

    -Todd w.

"Why Microsoft removed the ability for Windows Vista to install on herself from one location other than being inside the BONE you want to repair."

«.. . After using XP's repair function, the operating system itself would become less stable and frankly not in a good state of repair. »

    As Todd, is the answer.

"This response does not hold water as on one of my computers I've been running Windows XP for about four years now, after a repair install.

Then, you were lucky.  Try to replace the system files on a computer that does not start even at a desk or safe mode usually will get a return to office, but will probably repeat the same problem in a few weeks.  Tech professional would only use this function to retrieve the data before a complete reinstallation.

  • Optical drive internal appearing as a removable device

I recently bought an operation of Dell Latitude E6420 used Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit (SP1) and I am also very happy with it. But after I finished installing all the drivers that have been recommended since the Dell Web site, he developed an unusual problem: the optical drive (PLDS DVD +-RW OF THE - 8A3S) appears as removable material, even if it's not, and if I "eject" it, I need to restart the system before it works again.

This did not happen before on this machine and is the first time that I've ever known a problem like that, never. My mother and a friend also bought the same model at the same time - there is a similar problem on my mother (also Win 7 x 64) machine but not on the computer of my friend (8.1 Win x 64).

I figured that maybe that's a problem of driver, but re - install the driver from the optical device and even do a system restore didn't fix it. I also found some information of Microsoft Windows Hardware Dev Center Archive, which States:

    Incorrect configuration of SATA

Incorrect configuration of SATA may appear in the following situations:

    • If the system incorrectly identifies a SATA port internal as external, Windows disables LPM on this port, and therefore can not save on the port. In addition, Windows treats the internal non-removable device that is connected to this port as a removable device. For example, it appears in the device safely remove dialog box in the toolbar State system and in devices and printers.
    • If an external SATA port is not properly configured, it is possible for a device that is connected to the port to be considered non-removable and therefore do not attend the safely remove an instrument dialog box in the toolbar State system and in devices and printers.

If an internal SATA port is incorrectly configured as a port external SATA, a system vendor or administrator can fix without updating the BIOS OF THE system or the Windows software.

To work around this problem, you can disable external SATA support on a per track basis by setting the value of the TreatAsInternalPort registry key to 1, and then restart the system.

If the system has internal and external SATA ports, but a device that is attached to a port internal SATA appears in the dialog box safely remove devices in the system tray or in devices and printers, you should reset the registry key for the port.

I could not find the registry key mentioned and I am reluctant to change the registry without being certain of what it is I'm supposed to do. Someone solved a similar problem and any help please?

When I try to copy a file to a removable drive, it shows me an error "YOU NEED PERMISSION TO PERFORM THIS ACTION."

I also tried to change the setting, but it shows no security tab in the properties of the removable device

Being that the drive is using the FAT32 file system, there is no security clearance, whatever she is available to control access at the local level, the only FAT32 permissions available share permissions, but sharing on FAT32 permissions restrict access to the network only, no access by users working directly on the computer.  This leads me to believe that a policy of access to removable devices or media control is enabled on the computer.

  • DVD players do not show up as removable devices in solution under my computer Explorer - they show that local hard drives

DVD players in my machine do not appear in the removable devices section of the browser on the computer.  They are found under hard drives and he has not shown the removable devices section.

Some of my applications cannot detect that there is a DVD drive attached to the system because of that.
