  The only difference between the educational version and standard version of Lightroom is the price. There is no "educational" Lightroom version. When you go to the site to be upgraded, all you need to do is indicate that you have Lightroom 3. You are eligible for upgrade pricing.

The number I entered is correct - I checked against the original package and on the products of my adobe account page, and I get the error message even if I try to enter the serial number of the version of lightroom 3 I had before.   I had an older version of Lightroom, I think it was 5 or 6, on a computer that died on me.  I bought a new computer and that you wanted to put lightroom on it without having to buy the latest version.  I tried to download the trial version and put my product key for the previous version, but it was not valid.  Is there a place I can get from older versions, so I can use the product key that I paid for?

  Read this file which has been included as part of the download is titled 'Lightroom 6' but it's the only place where I can find a version number associated with this software.

  HDR function is not available in the version of Lightroom 5.7.1.

  You must upgrade to Lightroom version 6 or CC2015 to get the HDR functionality.

  There is no loss.

  You can leave your perpetually licensed installed lightroom and continue to use it.

  You can also use the latest version of lightroom available through creative cloud and use it.

  or you can uninstall your perpetually licensed lightroom and use the latest version of lightroom available through creative cloud.  If ever, you cancel your subscription of the cc, you can then reinstall your lr perpetually licensed.  you just need to secure your serial number and use the lr installation files.
