Vblock 0

I was going through the architecture of the Vblock0 and saw a network diagram where the storage (EMC Celera) is connected to the nexus 5 k instead of connect directly from the fabric of 6100 of interconnections.

Is there a particular reason to do so and how storage traffic flows to the N5K I thought we cannot have multi hop with FCoe

any ideas?

Ambi

Ambi

UCS currently does not support the targets directly connected FC or FCoE.

All UCS storage traffic goes on the CF uplinks and not 10 gig ports that are capable of FCoE.

This will change in the near future (next version of the software of the UCS).

So, for now, yes the link between UCS for the 5 k in architecture Vblock is CF. The 5 k could connect to a table FC or FCoE.

Thank you

  • VCE vblock, LSI_SCSI: Reset for device \Device\RaidPort0 ERROR in VM Windows Event logs

Hello, I have been a problem for some time and I can't seem to understand this issue. Basically, the VM freezes but returns after 30 seconds.
I found the problem was present on all data warehouses and even showed errors for for guests (san boot) boot sector. After changing the round robin at the fixed path on data warehouses to use a specific fiber channel switch LSI_SCSI errors were gone on all data warehouses, VM ect... everything worked normally.
We have an installation program VCE vblock with UCS (blades), Nexus 5ks and VNX.

So basically, we were troubleshooting paths FiberChannel beside the UCS to the VNX. We have changed ports on the VNX SP but side A was always bad / good B... Compared the configs of nexus for the two, identical configs/features beside the specificities as VSAN ect. Examined the configs for the UCS, but are fundamentally the same with Setup on the side B, but everything looked good. Nothing is defective.
I noticed Tx errors on ports of module e/s and CRC errors on ports in the Nexus. Thought it might be a bad fiber so I replaced... The problem is always present. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    UCS: 5108 Chassis, IO module 2104XP (2.2 (3g)), blades B200 M2, fabric 6120XP interconnections (5.2 (3) N2 (2.23 g))

    5.5 ESXi update 2

    2 nexus 5ks

    VNX 5500

I found the culprit, SFP. The FPS that were used throughout the entire upward was incompatible and FUBAR would. Not match speeds, single mode when it should have been multi ect. Just all around the nightmare. It's on EVERYTHING from the VNX to IOM simply ridiculous. After completing the gutting of the SFP and the fiber, replacement and then delivered at the point of the chassis of the UCS everything was great. Honestly, I don't know how it worked at all with this configuration. Anyway, if you want something done you have to do it yourself.

  • Backup VM with VBLOCK

I'm new to vBlock but have a decent understanding of vSphere and pretty much thru ver4.1 (some in ver 5).  Here's my question:

I'm with a company that uses vBlock and ESXi4 stand-alone servers.  No vCenter.   Inrteresting Setup.    They are not instant, and they do not have the VM backups.

Now, I'm still green behind the ears to this company, so I don't think I can say much of their virtual infrastructure and virtual policies, but whenever they need to make changes to their system (even if they are virtual machines), they either do or build a new server and test it on the new server.   In regards to the side of the virtual machine, they told me that they are not instant is because their SAN (Fibre Channel of EMC) vBlock can VM backups.  That's why even serves as to why they have no VM used cover backup/restore applications.   Fortunately, they have never had a need to post this because they have never had to restore a virtual machine.

I am skeptical.   From what I've read, vBlock and SAN interface device provides true VM backups.   If I'm not mistaken VBlock simply integrates 3 (vSphere, Cisco and EMC SAN routing).   I don't know that the SAN has the standard ability to backup files (IE.  The virtual computer files) but to be able to completely restore a computer virtual... I don't think so.  And, although it is possible to recreate a virtual machine files... it will take time to do so and if the configuration remains intact or not is questionable, in my opinion.   In any case, I wanted to see if someone knew more VBLOCK and could you tell me if what I said is true.    If this isn't the case, I'll have to chime so that they can take the appropriate decisions.

A Vblock (Yes, that's how VCE spells it) is sold with Enterprise more than license for the hosts, they are required to be able to include Nexus 1000v and PowerPath VE, with vCenter Standard edition (which allows unlimited guests).

By the reference guide (page 9) architecture - https://community.emc.com/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/5665-102-2-20157/h6935-vblock-infra-packages-ref-arc.pdf

  • Nexus 1000v - change of layer 2 to Layer 3 area transportation

I have two data centers we have VCE VBlocks in place.  We are trying to reach the VBlocks through the OTV and VPlex.  I hit a snag.  The remote site servers cannot connect and communicate 1000 v, I'm trying to join them to the main site.

After some digging and checking the VEM connections on remote servers, I believe this is due to the use of the control package of layer 2 configuration that is how they were installed originally.  I think that if I switch the 1000v to Layer 3 (IP-Based) VEM remote hosts should be able to communicate.

    Question & concern is...

When I change the setting in the domain and connect it to the control 0 or a management interface 0 (who already have an assigned Ip address) that must make modifications as appropriate will be connected hosts?  Cisco has a script that tries to automate it, but it generates errors when I run.  Prefer a manual change.  The configuration of system management guide commands to change the field, but it does not mention the changes made to the MEC / connected hosts.

Someone at - it passed from Layer 2 to Layer 3 field on a run in the configuration of the service?  Some snags or glitches?

    Hi Farmantrout,

There are no traps, but some specific prereqs and procedures.

The procedure is not impacting service and can be found at this link:

  • FEX-Uplink Failover, loadbalancing

I would like to understand more of the technology within a vblock
I have a few questions gradually

So I'm out. pls be patient and thank you in advance...

VBlock 720 with the following generic configuration

    Switch 2 x Cisco 5000 Series
    2 x FI 6248
    6 x chassis 5108
    FEX 2204
    VIC 1240 (no Mezzanine Card)
    8 x M3 blade, 2 CPU

uplinks of 4 x 10 G of each FEX to FI (port channel)
uplink of 8 x 10 G of each FI for Ciso 5000 series swith (vpc)

    Assumptions:

    All chassis are completely fill

Each blade has consistient thoroughput of bandwidth, but 6 GB

    1. When the blades connect to FEX A and B FEX, are active active connections?
    2. For exampleIs blades 1 and 5 has made the fallen on the same ports on the same FEX FEX?
    3. What is the method that load balances blade ping?
    4. Assume 1 Uplink fails between FEX and FI, is the uplink 1 on FEX B overexploited.
    5. How the virtual machine decides which ANC port to send traffic?

    She now...

    See online

When the blades connect to FEX A and B FEX, are active active connections?

    I assume you mean of FEX = IOM in the chassis;

Yes the two fabrics are active; all VIC are double hosted the fabric a and b

For exampleIs blades 1 and 5 has made the fallen on the same ports on the same FEX FEX?

You have the choice between static pinning (made by UCS Manager) blade slot to an Uplink of IOM, or set a port between IOM and fabric channel interconnection; port channel is the preferred mode.

Static pinning depends on model of IOM, 2204 / 2208 and the number of uplinks, for example

    2204-4 uplinks

    slot 1 and 5--> uplink 1 chassis

    2 and 6-> uplink 2 chassis slot

    ......

    2208-8 uplinks

    Chassis slot 1-> uplink 1

    Chassis slot 2-> uplink 2

    ......

Pinning static if a rising fails, the fabric slots correspondent has or b, are declining. There is no repinning for remaining uplinks; grouping and multipathing will take the appropriate action.

If you have a port-channel, and you lose a link, no problem, as long as there is at least a link to the top; your bandwidth will decrease, but th vnic/vhba are still in place

What is the method that load balances blade ping?

Don't understand; To be more specific

Assume 1 Uplink fails between FEX and FI, is the uplink 1 on FEX B overexploited.

Yes, in principle. but you will have to design oversubscription from end to end in any case!

How the virtual machine decides which ANC port to send traffic?

It depends on the hypervisor; Take, for example, VMware ESXi and vswitch: load balancing can be configured by switch and / or port-group; important caveat: do not hash IP as interconnection of fabric does not support the Protocol LACP; by default, the original virtual¨port code.

  • Limitations associated with connection tables to UCS FIs live.

I understand that to connect directly a table of UCS, the FIs have put (NPIV) mode of the switch.  But once you are the FI in Switch Mode, it is impossible to join other SAN switches in the fabric interconnects?

It is my understanding that you could do because it would be very different then a SAN fabric stretched to move through FC 2 switches to a host table traffic.  But maybe I'm missing something.

    Thanks in advance.

You can directly attached storage and FC switches at the same time, in fact until recently it was required since UCS did not zoning.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/UCS-...

The question is if you really want to do it this way, I think 95% of deployments, if not more, fine host mode is recommended.

If you already have the intention to attach switches FC, better place storage on them.

Take a look at drawings FlexPod (of Vblock).

  • Help me design a UCS!

    Hi guys

Can someone help me with the best way to set up a UCS environment?

I downloaded a diagram of my proposal for a set upwards. (a thing, the diagram does not show, is that the n5k are connected to a conduct of 3750)

The thing im worried is the links between the FIC and N5k.  I intend to have 4 links between each FIC and N5k (so 8 total).

My question is how should I configure these links?

    2 x ethernet 2 x CF

4 x FCOE (this will be unified of uplinks? can I do a channel port on the n5k?)

How did you did yours? What would you recommend?

    Thank you!

Most nationwide _I saw_ environments were indeed split network Ether and fiber.

It also separates storage and networking portion of the network - quite important for some companies.

In many environments, the discussion ends up being on the bottom rather than deploy line.

FCoE, I think it solves a lot of problems, especially if properly deployed. However, it requires that people operating this network know CF _and_ ether...

I'll just repeat what I said in my first answer, take a look at how vblock/flexpod/vspex etc. deploy UCS with N5k and storage.

  • SRM 5.5 with EMC SRDF. Full recovery but reprotect fails

    Hi all

I am fairly new to SRM, but have been plugging away in establishing a new environment that uses:

    vCenter 5.5 u1 (two Sites)

    Solutions Enabler 8.0.1.0 - 1953

    EMC SRDF Adapater (SRA) = 5.6.0 VMAX 20 k

EMC SRDF utilities SRA (and community VSI) = 5.7.0.2

    RS = 5.5.1.8569

I followed documentation provided by Cody Hosterman ~which is great and got me almost to the end.  I was able to successfully switch (recovery), a virtual machine using a test Stimulus Plan from Site A to Site B. It was working fine.

We don't use TimeFinder (unauthorized) and so when we realize the expected behavior once happened that the SRDF link has been broken. The State of the R1 to Site A device has become write disabled. The device of R2 in Site B became read/write and the State of the device group is "Fail Over". It is in SRDF asynchronous mode.

To try to 'Restore' the group, I see errors relating to the configuration of the storage to reverse direction.

    http://i.imgur.com/zWiGtT5.PNG

I checked the log EmcSrdfSra as suggested on the site now main SRM server and it seems that there is a mistake shortly after you have created a new consistency group.

    http://i.imgur.com/5hZT8HQ.PNG

I raised a support call with EMC with it directly as a first port of call, but it is in its infancy so I thought I would ask if anyone has any idea what could go wrong here. I have exhausted my googleFU skills and I'm at the stage of trying to get some eyes on the issue. I am happy to provide more information if necessary or to answer your questions - what someone might have.

    Really hope someone can help!

    Thank you!

    Ryan

    Hello

I got some progress with this so I thought back and share what he needed to solve this problem.

Essentially, in our environment, we have a VMAX in each site. We have now two servers Manager array with Solutions Enabler (on a Unisphere web) installed. The reason is that we have a VCE Vblock and VCE provided a nursery table server. In addition, we have built our own for the purposes of the SRM and other similar things.

In essence, we do not configured new servers of facilitators of Solutions fully and missing GNS on them. We have also put in SRDF pairs and above all: GROUPS of DEVICES on the old managers table manually. These groups of devices répliquiez not to the new servers, but the other config (Volumes, etc.) have been! So SRM was trying to talk to our new boxes and only really get half the information on volumes and above all the volume groups.

Once we have properly configured device groups on each site for the Volumes that were used for SRDF replication, everything started working. Since then, we have been in and double-checked the configuration manager servers on new table and all is good. This solved the problems that I posted above.

I hope this helps someone in the future!

  • On Nutanix from VMware on blades VMware

    Hi all

Customer asked to understand the deployment strategy and the benefits of VMware on Nutanix deployment and the deployment of VMware on blades? Just wondering if someone have document or guide to compare the two please?

Any information or help will be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello

WARNING: I am a father Solutions & Performance Engineer at Nutanix

The only real similarity between Nutanix and blade of deployments is they are considered as solutions, space-saving, but this is really where the similarities end.

VMware on blades is a Compute solution, which requires some form of shared such as a SAN or NAS storage to be connected via FC or IP connectivity.

However, Nutanix is a Hyper-convergent platform, which includes the calculation and storage in a 2RU format.

    Nutanix is actually a data center in a box that provides computing/storage resources, but also a fully integrated management platform. Deployment of Nutanix is very simple and takes<30mins from="" factory="" default="" to="" running="" vsphere="" and="" vms="" in="" an="" optimal="" storage="">

Blades with VMware (storage more) could take several days or weeks to be implemented after a design phase potentially complex.

Nutanix has all the features you would expect from a SAN/NAS like Compression, deduplication, Thin Provisioning, snapshot backup/replication, even in charge of Clusters stretched that we call the availability of Metro on.

Here is a report from an independent consulting firm by comparing a blade solution based on Cisco UCS (vBlock which includes SAN storage) at Nutanix.

    http://go.nutanix.com/RS/nutanix/images/nutanix-Taneja-Group-Exec-summary.PDF

If you can advise what use can is scheduled for, I can give you more details, if not, visit our Web site that contains many guides to best practices at http://www.nutanix.com/resources

In cadrul acestor naked conferinte am auzit niciodata ca knows its ca virtualizarea specifice prezentator is poate incepe practic almost for free, may ales pentru firmele mici care pot refolosi servere existente TR licenta free ESXi...

In cazul meu, am inceput virtualizarea usor, in 2004, cu ideea of one the of its migra serverele fizice carora urma mature perioda official masini virtuale catre viata. Course, fost facute rentabilitate inainte math (licente, human necesare, etc.). Atunci a fost perioada cand am facut cele may multe p2v - uri iar proiectul a fost atat apreciat s incat - has extins solutia iar 'political 1 Virtualization' an o Janet uses. ACUM am ajuns the UN 90% before servere plague virtualizare procent physics doar in cases of interpretation, cand seller-ii nu mourned practic mediul virtual.
