• Migration of virtual machines to vCD and again in a standard ESXi cluster itself?

  We currently have a relatively small cluster of ESXi (5.0.0 1489271) which uses a dedicated installation vCenter (5.0.0 1300600) and an instance of vCD (vCD 5.1.2.1068441).  Our goal is to move the virtual machines running in this configuration to our standard ESXi clusters (5.5.0 1892794) supported by installation of different vCenter (5.5.0 1891313).

  The instance of vCD seems to add additional parameters to the level of the virtual machine that prevents the VM of to be easily transferred out of the instance of vCD.  What we are looking for is a way to easily migrate these servers on and completely remove the vCD of the equation.  The only details around that we found cause downtime for exports out of vCD can be extended to reason the total amount of drive to the VM and VM level, which we really do not think it is an option to open a window of time to stop long enough to work through this process.

  Did someone went down this road before?  We have approximately 120 virtual machines in the cluster vCD using about 52 TB of disk.

  Maybe we're wrong understand something fundamental about the nature of migration of VMs on the vCD instance, but we have not been able to find many details on what options exist to make this move.  We have spoken several times with VMware support in this regard.  They mentioned a potential tool in the work within engineering migrate vCD to vCAC (which isn't really fall under our goal unless vCAC would then provide a clear path to return the virtual machines to a standard ESXi cluster).

  Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

  I am a colleague of GTC and wanted to just sent to our discussion of this topic with the help of VMware.  Basically, we should be able to Setup VMs in vCenter, outside of vCloud Director, pointing them to the same files VMDK and MAC then power off VM vCD and power on VM vCenter.

  We must ensure that the VM vCD never gets turned on again and then when we are completely finished with all migrations of VMS in vCenter we abandon vCD.

  Of course there are details to help users migrate to how they use the vCD to vSphere vCenter client web interface or web interface.

  someone said that vMware has bought Embotics vCommander and is to promote the planning is as a replacement for vCloud Director.

  If in the future, there will be no vCloud Director, only vCommander as vCloud 5.5 is the latest version of vCloud Director.

  Can someone shadow light on it if it's true or just a rumor?

  vCloud Director goes because there are many common features between vCD and vCAC. And the positioning of these two manufacturers are becoming increasingly difficult. I think that's the only reason why they plan to stop it. And it will always be available to service providers. Not be included in vCloud Suite.

  I don't think that VMware will purchase another product like vCommander and enter in more complex questions of positioning.

  Why not just upgrade?

  The end point of Amazon EC2, web proxy was part of the configuration and works very well.

  My end point for external vCloud Director platform does not, but...

  Both connections are the same dem - W.

  Is there a differnce between relocate VM (vMotion vCenter) and migrate VM (migration vCD)?

  Some use the terms interchangeably, but a Relocate operation commonly refers to a storage vMotion, i.e. move the computer virtual files to a data store to another on the same physical host.

  Conversely, a Migration refers to a normal vMotion which does move that State of memory and calculation of the VM from one physical host to another. The virtual machine files remain intact on the same storage location.

  Given that vSphere 5.1, they also introduced what is commonly called "reinforced" vMotion (migration of shard-nothing), it allows to live - migrate virtual machines to a different physical host and the data store at the same time.

  is any possibility to migrate everything in the catalog (time and iso files) to a different data store that has the same profile (Silver) storage group?  Because I have 2 groups of data store with the same profile of storage (Silver) and I want to delete one of this cluster.

  You happen to use rapid Provisioning?  This is probably the only problem I can think of.

  Environments that have no linked Clones or shadows created from them, you can just Storage vMotion them between the same storage policy data warehouses.  Just make sure that the data store or a store of data clusters are visible in vCloud Director first of all in the framework of this storage policy.

  When you use linked clones, I don't remember the exact process... I think that I have in my office somewhere (I'm at home now).

  After a cluster migration precipitated from the old to the new vCenter server, I was able to get our vCAC 5.2 Configuration stabilized sufficiently to provide virtual machines again.

  However, when the virtual machines (existing as well as newly created) reach expiration date, the stacktrace below fills the newspapers.

  Apparently, something deep in vCACs broke the logic of integration with Windows Workflow Foundation.

  ? Is there a DB table of endpoints of mapping or resources to the WWF queues?

  You could trigger the destruction of vCAC, but nothing happened.

  1. We have removed the VM of vCenter.
  2. Triggered State and inventory workflows vCAC against the vCenter server.
  3. Removed the VM stuck vCAC database using the stored procedure that can be downloaded from 2077281 KB KB VMware: deleting a virtual machine in VMware vCloud Automation or Automation vRealize management
  4. AND as if by MAGIC (no explanations of vmware support) the failure ForceExpire workflow started running with subsequent absorption of the old archived VMs.

  I'm not able to migrate VMs who resided originally in a Provisioning group but now must pass on the other wanted to change depending on the user and roles, but do not want to expose two commissioning groups to the user.

  I was able to change the VM but don't see change not all groups options.

  Please help find a way to do this.

  VCAC 6 I know that you can migrate between the reserves, but I don't remember if it was a function of 5.2 as well (I've not used for about a year now). If all goes well it gives you somewhere to start.

  I got this message after a migration to another ESX. The same day, my license has expired.

  Before the migration, all the thing was right, I also had the 'infrastructure' tab

  On the Vcac device, a service is not registered: "m-services.

  First I solve the problem of license and then make sure of him that SSO is configured correctly. Can connect you vCAC using the SSO administrator credentials and check the configuration of tenant looking at storage of identity and roles the client administrator and Director of Infrastructure.

  Since you use vCloud licenses immediately, you are only able to manage vSphere / vCD / resources vCHS.

  In order to manage the resources of openstack, you will need license advanced vCAC.
  It's so one would not buy 1 cpu of vCloud Suite and manage 20,000 of Hyper-V VMs for example...

• Get the vCAC:VCACHost of the vCAC:VirtualMachine

  I don't know if I'm just being dense and missing something obvious, but it doesn't seem like the vCAC:VirtualMachine object has no way to enter the vCAC:VCACHost delegate.  I created an action that I think should work for most objects.  In a similar way to vCD, I had assumed that most of the objects would have a .parent attribute or a function to get the host.  At the moment I can't imagine we ever have more than one vCACHost in a vCO to be honest, but you know how it goes.  I wrote this action to return to the vCAC:VCACHost, but if there is a way more easy/better please let me know.

• vCAC 6.0 - network woes, "transport area.

  I have a new deployment of vCAC 6.0.  I have no experience with earlier versions.  We were previously Mid-deployments of a vCD environment, but then the announcement came out all splitting the IAAS providers vs private cloud application of each product.  We opted to move to vCAC since we were not fully engaged in vCD.

  We have worked successfully in the environment and have imported several VMS in vCenter.  However, I have some difficulty to obtain several computers plans in place with any form of networking.  Whenever I try, vCAC calls for a Transport area.  My Googlings, it seems the Transport areas are a characteristic of the NSX.  However, to read the vCAC documentation, I can apparently do the same thing with vCloud network and security.  I installed and implemented version 5.5 of vCloud network and security, but still without areas of transport!

  Can anyone help?  Thanks in advance!

  Well, I think that I fixed my own problem.  Expanded in POSSIBLE transport vCAC translates network zones.  My problem is that once I had set up POSSIBLE correctly, I does not kick off a collection of data from vCAC to collect new items of inventory.  The default is every 24 hours.  After you run manually the data collection, the scope of network I created in POSSIBLE appeared in vCAC as a transport area.

  Now to the configuration/troubleshooting!
