vCenter:-change from physical to virtual

Hello

I have 1 Server vCenter 5.0 which is a physical machine.

Physical machine (vCenter Configurations):

1 HP Porliant Server

2. Windows Server 2008 R2 STD SP1.

3 RAM: 16 GB

4 CPU: Interl Xeon 8 cpu.

I want to have my server vCenter as a virtual server rather than physical.

Can I create a new virtual machine and install vCenter 5.0 on it, and then point it to the existing database (SQL 2008 R2 - Cluster)?

OR

I have to create a new database as well and restore the existing DB Backup, then point vCenter for her?

OR

P2V using vCenter Converter my only option?

Also anyway, I only add hosts to vCenter after its VM on as they will appear disconnected. Right? Something else is needed?

Thanks - AG

Yes that is correct:

Create the system DSN proper connections on the new host to vCenter server. For more information, seedisplaying and editing of the database server to vCenter Server installation fails with ODBC and DSN errors (1003928).

    People,

Can I migrate virtual phisycal Mac?

    Best regards

    PD

You can install Mac OS X Server v10.5 or later directly on a Virtual Machine under VMware Fusion, so there is no need to install in physically in first, then image to a virtual machine.

No you can not move it to a non Apple host OS as that would violate Apple SLA is the only product of VMware Server OS X 10.5 or later version will operate legally under VMware Fusion.  Any use on a product other VMware then VMware Fusion violates not only Apple ALS it would also require the prompt of illicit hacking so he can work.

  • Moving from physical to virtual

I recently migrated a desktop computer of mine to the virtual machine that has a charged special application. After execution of the virtual machine for a few days, I noticed that she wishes that the app re-registered. It seems that the application is linked to the MAC address of the network card. Is it possible to usurp the physical NETWORK adapter on the virtual machine?

  • Possible to have the physical and virtual units of ESA in the same group?

Given the scarcity of available information about virtual appliances, anyone have any ideas if it is possible to run a physical C160 and a C300V running the same version of ASyncOS in the same cluster.  I need to migrate from physical to virtual and has been evalualting the possbilty of the migration to the C300V from the C160 by adding a C300V to a cluster and then decommissioning the C160.

    Someone know about this?

    Thank you

    Nathan-

Yes.  You can, as long as the appliance and virtual appliance running the same AsyncOS.  The "clusterconfig" command will work in the same exact way.  You need to just make sure that your C300V has the featurekeys loaded in order to run the cluster.

My question is: I need deep to be deployed in this case, security no EGGS? If not, please let know us if the implemintation may be made on VCENTER without the need to deploy the eggs on the ESXi

is the physical machine VCENTER is sufficient to install all components and functions of security?

or I need more host to install the components of deep security?

  • Physical to virtual (P v) Conversion of vCenter Server

What are all the things I need to think about when convering vCenter server from one physical machine to a virtual machine?  For example:

1 if the SQL database is on the same server, it can be corruputed?

    2. If I create P to V would be vm and let it sit for a day, while the physical vCenter server is in place, what is happening with Active Directory when I stop the physical and virtual vCenter server takes over?  The vCenter Server virtual would have a less recent synchronization with Active Directory than the physical server, I just stopped.  No problem?

    StageCoach says:

No unjoining and join vCenter server to this domain questions all possible - such as the loss of permissions, etc that I need to be wary of?

nothing whatsoever.  vCenter has all it's information stored in a database.  The reason for the possible reach of the field is just to update the AD and DNS object

  • vCenter 5.5 install - physical vs virtual

We are relying on companies more edition and we have about 600 guests esxi and 5000 vms and 50 clusters. Currently we are trying to ruin vCenter 5.1 in a virtual machine (cluster-HA/DRS) with stand alone DB SQL backend running on separate virtual computer. We intend to migrate VSS to DVSs and take advantage of the other features of more editing. VM still good for vCenter 5.5, if yes, what is the resources max and other configurations, I need to consider for vCenter deployment in a virtual machine? Appreciate your help

    Thank you

    Sunny

There is no difference in the maximum rates of configuration runs vCenter virtual or physical, at least if current running on the virtual computer, you have to play close attention to certain best practices. Have a look here: recommended: running virtual vCenter (vSphere) - yellow brick

  • How to change the memory allocated for VCenter server, which is a virtual machine

I'm trying reclassification of 3.5 to Vsphere 4.1 and I improved VCenter first, making it a virtual machine.  However, when I created the server I did not allocate enough memory for it and I'm getting errors.  How can I allocate more memory for the virtual machine while it is stopped?  I can not allocate more memory, except if it is closed, but with it being the VCenter server if I stopped him so that I can access with the Vi client.  Is there a service console command?  I searched for a few hours and found nothing.

    Thank you!!

Discover what the vCenter ON WHAT VM ESX host is marked (e), connect directly to the ESX host and find the vCenter VM and make the change.

  • NIC physical or virtual dedicated & vlan for vCenter Heartbeat?

I am writing a paper on the recommendations and requirements of vCenter Heartbeat 1...

It seems unclear to me if the functionality of pulsations of vCenter need dedicated physical NIC when VC is running in a virtual machine?

VC goes. Heart rate requires dedicated physical NIC or only vNIC & lt;-& gt; dedicated vSwitch is required?

    Thanks in advance

    : o).

I guess that your VC is running in a virtual machine? VC with Heartbeat requires a minimum of two vNIC with every heartbeat (each vNIC, but the first) vNIC on a dedicated vSwitch. Since a physical NETWORK card can only below a unique vSwitch, this configuration requires at least two cards physical network. Basically, this means that you need at least two network adapters for and two physical network adapters to configure the heartbeat in a VC run in a virtual machine. For redundancy reasons, it makes sense to have multiple physical network cards in a vSwitch for grouping of NETWORK cards. Therefore, you should really have at least four physical NICs (two by vSwitch) in a production environment.

  • Migration of Vcenter DB from SQL SERVER 2005 to SQL 2008 Express

    Hello
I'll migrate the physical vcenter server to a virtual machine, then I'll install a new VM with OS 2008R2 and SQL2008. But I need the migration plan
vCenter DB from SQL 2005 to SQL2008. VMware also recommends

Note: 1) VMware recommends now IP address and host name the same information to facilitate the migration.

    (2) software migration to different vCenter Server, Manager of update or VMware Orchestrator. For example, Site Recovery Manager is not migrated.

    (3) move the VMware Orchestrator database. You must do it manually.

We can give to vcenter server new name and IP and if yes what will be then problem occur after the post migration.

    Thank you

    vmguy

It takes to keep the same name and IP address? If we will give different vcenter and IP server name then how will transfer of post stage

If you can keep the same name of host and IP, this would make it so much easier.  That said, if you need to change the host name and IP address of vCenter you can run into issues where all your guests appear as disconnected. Usually, you can right click and choose 'connect', asked credentials for your hosts of ESXi, but after that they should remain connected.

In addition, just in case I posted above another KB.

  • Physical vs Virtual DMZ

I implement the vCloud Suite of products in a multiclient environment and currently do not have a demilitarized zone.   In seeking to define what the DMZ network will look like, devrais I guess that I need one that is defined by a separation of physical networks such as the following:

(Outside of the physical <>- physical <>- DMZ-<>- Firewall firewall network <>- internal network)

Is to have a demilitarized zone in a conventional, as above, with two firewalls of both sides, always recommended?

Can I do the same thing with POSSIBLE and when is it appropriate to set my DMZ in software vs hardware?

    Hello

Well the following will work using only virtual Firewall:

    <->outside the physical switch <->outside Teddy <->VDS <->FW <->VDS DMZ <->FW <->Outside outside inside VDS

Physical switch <->Teddy <------------------------>VDS DMZ DMZ DMZ

Then attach a physical DMZ via the DMZ VDS and specific ports outside your chassis and a physical switch in the DMZ upstream.

Or the following if you want to combine physical and virtual firewall

    Outside <->physics FW <->DMZ Phsysical Switch <->Teddy <->pvNIC <->DMZ VDS <->FW <->DMZ VDS from inside the DMZ

If you want to use a DMZ or not depends on what you're really trying to do.

    3. can you multiple access by 5.5 ESXi host the same data store (located on a San) vmfs using the free version of ESXi 5.5?
Can I use this in a production environment? I have seen some companies test this on a non-production environment. Technically, it works.

    Thank you
    Paul

    Welcome to the community-

    (1) as long as the DRS HA cluster hosts see data even warehouses there will be no problem

    (2) once more, also longer than the nose can see data warehouses including the LUNS as the RDM it home should be without issue.

    (3) Yes multiple instances of the free version of ESXi can access LUNS shared - Yes it can be used in a production environment, but remember you can not handle the free hypervisor with vCenter.

  • "Home CPU/memory/connection" (host) changes from green to gray, then gray to green?

    Hey everybody,

I'm trying to track down a problem with one of my two hosts. My Cluster (2 guests in HA/vMotion) is pretty basic, but runs a lot of VM that requires an availability of 100% (as if we want to accept less ). This is the result I get every two weeks. It's a bit concerning to know that for some reason a node is abandoned, or is it same stall? I see no vMotion alerts or the tasks in that time. Nothing seems to break. Uptime on each virtual computer and the node in question leads me to believe that nothing is really wrong, but it can be worse than what I think. I mean he's only 17 seconds... how bad could it be, right?

I'm assuming "Host memory usage", "host CPU usage", 'Swap host service rate console', etc. go from green to gray, then gray green means that it is not a resource problem, just an indicator that it is "grayed out" because there no report or an interruption of the connection.

I guess I am wondering if it is network related, associated hardware partner, vsphere host or something I can't even think. The host disconnects for 7 seconds and no quick vMotioning can't. I think 30 seconds is the rule in front of him vMotions? I mean, I had rather not vMotion, if I can avoid it.

Whatever it is, what do you think?

My memory, I cannot keep records for a long time. Last year, I think that I have seen this problem and it was a bug. There is also a patch for it. It was a BUG where the way every now and then, the confidence in me it was no problem at all in the perspective of the environment.

I don't remember the article or the revision of patch has this connection, but you may need to check the kb.vmware.com to see if you can find.

  • How to know the difference between RDM physical and virtual

    Hello!

How can I see if a RDM (RAW device) is physical or virtual?

I can see it in the vmx file or easily elsewhere?

I have a few servers running both VMFS and RDM disks inside the virtual machine, and when you use ESX Ranger and make an instant backup, they are ignored to be backed up.

    Grateful for a response

When you change the settings of the virtual machine and choose the RDM - there will be a radio button selected for the RDM mode, it is - it is really obvious. She'll be selected for the physical or virtual.
