vCenter data retention policies

Dear team,

I changed the policy of tensioning of database of vcenter for 1 days instead of 7 days for the task and evetsn, once clicked OK, when I discover the events and tasks yet i m able to see last 7 days logs. When and how this setting will touch.

I need your assitiance...

Concerning

Mr. VMware

If you set the retention period for a short period of time, then you will not be able to go back to see the tasks and older events. The retention period is a compromise between the amount of newspapers and the size of the database.

  • vCenter data retention policies when does it take effect

I'm not enough on my space of vcenter. If I set the data retention policy to 6 months, should I immediately remove tasks and events more than six months, or it marks just all new task and the event should be deleted within 6 months. I just wanted to see if I would get immediate space savings.

    Hey Stan,

Purge scripts are set to run once a year, once a month, once a week and once per day because there are four procedures that work both to collect and to purge the data. You can manually run the purge by just running the default procedures stored in SQL Management Studio after connecting to your virtual Center DB and that would go very well indeed, and I guess that max age settings are what you would find already set at 6 months in the scripts, if you have already made changes in the GUI!

  • Graphic data retention for VCenter 5 device

    Hi all

I noticed a month previously, our graphic retention went up to 1 month of data collection.

I used to have all the months of graphs since installation.

I read somewhere that you could go to:

vCenter Server Settings-> data retention policy.

It has been verified to 356 days. I unchecked to see if it worked and restarted.

    Nope.

Something has changed since installation, and what I can't understand.

I did the last update, hoping that would help, but it didn't.

Does anyone know where I could solve this?

    Thank you!

    Now, it's a problem...

The best solution for your missing perf stats must publish the next update:

    DB2 "update VPX_STAT_INTERVAL_DEF set INTERVAL_LENGTH = 31536000 where INTERVAL_SEQ_NUM = 3".

Unfortunately this will not restore your data of perf, but you won't have the same problem with the lack of statistical data.

  • Custom data retention policy

    Hi all

Is it possible to set up below the retention to Foglight (5.6.10) policy.

    * Save 10 minutes for 90 days and then purge *.

    Kind regards

    Roshan Varughese

    Hi Roshan,

You must set all three generations in the custom retention policy to preserve data for 10 minutes.

Please find the custom in FMS UI retention policy under: management data/servers/server management / retention policy/policy current. Here, select the menu drop-down and click custom.

Once there you should be able to select 10 minutes for each generation, then purge the data after 3 months. (see image below)

Keep in mind that political detention is very granular and the size of your database is likely to increase. Also, when you use larger slots in the user interface, the server will have to deal with more values and will add a certain amount of overhead.

More information in Foglight documentation - creation of custom retention policies.

  • What is the Mozilla user data retention policy unique identifier?

I read recently in the privacy policy of FF that an ID unique browser is sent to Mozilla with an IP address whenever the browser checks the updates:

"This function sends also potentially personal information to Mozilla in the form of your IP address and a cookie that contains a unique numeric value to distinguish various Firefox installs."

    http://www.Mozilla.org/en-us/legal/privacy/Firefox.html

This feature can potentially, provide a list complete IP addresses and sites that a user used to access the Internet, Mozilla. Can you please clarify your data retention policy? In other words, how long are the IP address or other identifier stored on your servers?

Hello! I'm chime of the Mozilla Privacy team.

For RFT pings, we don't hold anything in FHR > 6 months (180 days). That answer your question? Here is a link to the info - it's under "how enable or disable sharing of data".

  • VCloud Director displays do not Vcenter data.

    Hi guys,.

I installed VCD 5.5, vsheild Manager and vcenter on a single ESXi 5.5 . I am facing problems with VCloud Director.Although I have attached the Vcenter Sucessfully in VCD, vcenter data not poping upward into Vcd. So the list of hosts is empty. No resouce pool are coming in Vcd.

Here are my questions coming in my mind... I think I might get hurt

1 then I installed VCD 5.5, vsheild Manager and vcenter on a single ESXi 5.5 host?

    2. is it a problem with the license... Although all of them are allowed until 2015. ?

    3. do I need to manually install the agent Vcd on ESXi... Although I think that this should be done automatically? If yes how to do this.

Please tell me where I can be wrong.

I have attached snapshots of Vcenter and VCD. Please review those and help out me

    All responses will be appreciated.

    Thank you

You must create a provider vDC for nothing appear.  This requires some DRS to be on (if you don't have it already done) and requires usually two hosts in a cluster.  This is because you need to spend in maintenance mode to install the agent correctly and can vmotion powerd on the VMS of a host while the other prepares.  It's all part of the installation and Administrator's guide.

  • Remove manually removed from device vCenter data store

    Hi all

I was doing some cleaning storage today and accidentally deleted a LUN which had not yet been withdrawn from Vcenter data store (or one of the hosts).  Of course delete it, etc. does not now.  I found this article for manual removal of data warehouses, but it seems to be expecting Vcenter to run in a Windows Server/MSSQL database.  I am running the latest version of the Suse standard device.  Can anyone help translate these instructions in a game can I use the appliance?

    Thank you!

    Thank you both...

In fact, I don't know why I don't think to do it anyway, but here's what I did:

    Switch to view Datastore

Click on the dead DS, click the hosts tab. Guests who think that the DS is still alive will be listed.

Click on each host and tell it to rescan the HBAs, etc..  When they have finished sweeping, he drops out of the list.  Finally, the DS will disappear.

No need to restart the host, but this suggestion gave me this idea.  In addition, good info on the DB for the machine tools.  I maybe those reference again...

  • Re: How does the data retention?

    Hello guys

How does the conservation of data in vC Ops? In the document it says data retention in the company is 900 days. But in the vSphere user interface, we can keep up to 4 years, which is by default and the minimum level. These two does not?

There are also resolutions different weeks, monthly, quarterly, and annual. Suppose for example that if we maintain weekly resolution as 12 weeks and months 10, all the quarters 9 and annual 5 years as shown in the picture how it works? I mean after 12 weeks the data will be deleted, but we said 5 years for recall information. How this is achieved.

    Please help me

    Thank you

    VK

    Let me be more specific:

    1. the colelctor collects data interval 20 seconds every 5 min

    2. it is wrapped in a 5 min avg and max value.

    3. these values 5 min is rolled up to hourly, daily, weekly... ect... for two reasons: capacity and analysis of dynamic thresholds which is stored in two databases diffenent calculations.

It does not compress the stats... it gets stats avg. (Analysis uses avg to get trends used for forcasting ability... ect)

  • Need a script to a fast line to disable SIOC on all storages attached to a vCenter data

Need a script to a fast line to disable SIOC on all storages attached to a vCenter data

    Hello, vmwaredownload-

If you just want quick and dirty and know that all your data warehouses are able IGCS, you can use these few lines (you can join to the same line, separated by semicolons, if you really need a single line):

    $viewStorageRM = Get-View -Id "StorageResourceManager-StorageResourceManager" ## get the Storag Resource Manager view$spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.StorageIORMConfigSpec -Property @{"Enabled" = $false} ## create the config specGet-Datastore | %{$viewStorageRM.ConfigureDatastoreIORM_Task($_.Id, $spec)} ## for all datastores, disable SIOC

Which does not check if the data store is capable of IGCS, or if it is already off - he just goes and tries to disable SIOC on all data warehouses.

To learn more, if you're interested, AC talked about allowing people with disabilities/IGCS in his vNugglets.com post earlier.

How these three lines do for you?

  • vCenter data recovery - is it upgrade for VCB

    Hello

I wonder if vCenter data recovery is an upgrade for existing ESX enterprise clients using VCB, or it is a new product which must be purchased?

    any ideas?

VMware data recovery is intended as a product recovery and backup of disk to disk for virtual machines.

The product is included in some editions of vSphere and downloadable and add-on for some of the other (for example standard).

    hope that helps,

  • Data retention

In the United Kingdom, there is specific legislation around data retention that stores pii (personally identifiable information) only as long as is necessary for business purposes (data protection Act). I just wonder how to challenge that needs a DBA. For example, an oracle database that houses the HR/pay your personal information? You have set procedures to remove the data of the ex employees after x number of months? Is this practice? You have to go through your backups and remove all traces of this information there as well? It seems a bit of a nightmare for my I was wondering how do you to address this issue for any database, you support this process/store PII?

One of the problems with Public Transport chip that is currently implemented in the Netherlands is the backoffice is inconsistent with the law of protection of personal information and sensitive data to privacy too long. That's according to the authority for the protection of personal information. Some politicians that the backoffice does not store information that moves passengers have made at all.

And Yes, I was involved with HR systems, where information on missing employees was not deleted, sometimes not even after 5 years (for tax reasons, financial information must be kept for 5 years).

  • RMAN retention policies

We seek two retention policies for our backups. retention of 30 days for all backups on TAPE and 7 days of retention on all backups on DISK. If we define the retention at 30 policy, drive could not accommodate all the backups on disk at the same time, we need backups on tape for at least 30 days.

    Any ideas?

You have a block of code in your script to delete obsolete backups... replace that with two orders (a global and one for the disc). You would still have 30 days retention policy

    RMAN TARGET /.
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY OF 30-DAY WINDOW;
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL FOR MAINTENANCE DEVICE TYPE SBT;
    DELETE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE FORCE.
REMOVE THE FORCE NOPROMPT OBSOLETE WINDOW TYPE 7 DEVICE DRIVE RECOVERY DAYS.

  • Flashback Data RETENTION Archive not applied?

    Hello

We are on the 12 c Enterprise Edition Release Oracle database 12.1.0.2.0 - 64 bit Production.

For testing purposes, I have created an Archive of Flashback with RETENTION 1 DAY data and
Adding a table of this archive. Then I inserted/updated / delete records in the table
and verified that there are data in the table (SYS_FBA_HIST_ < ObjectID >) story that reflects
    My DML.

When revisitng the history of table after a few days the reviews are still there, even if
column USER_FLASHBACK_ARCHIVE. LAST_PURGE_TIME shows that the archive

    has been purged.

I expected the records in the table in history to have disappeared, can someone explain why they are still there?

    Hello

Probably you hit the bug, trying to perform a manual purge if you still have questions of conclusion then fdba process is not able to pick up the partition for split and couldn't right '; t could truncate

  • VDP (vCenter Data Protection) flow and data management.

    (1) is there any limit on the maximum FC and Ethernet through - was supported by the advanced version of POS?

    (2) maximum size of data capacity of 8 TB of VIENNA is combined of all 10 PDV (maximum supported by vCenter) devices, or for a single device?

    (3) if 8TB limit is for a single POS device, so is it possible to manage 80 TB (with 10 devices POS) per vCenter server.

Is it mentioned in VMWare document that TB 80 and 80 simultaneous backup of VMs is the limit by vCenter?
